Is Romney A Birther?
August 29, 2012 by Bob Livingston
On the campaign stump last week, Mitt Romney took a thinly veiled swipe at President Barack Obama’s birth certificate controversy when he said to a crowd in Michigan: “No one’s ever asked to see my birth certificate. They know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised.”
The crowd cheered.
Romney quickly backtracked when confronted by the media, claiming, “there’s no question about where [Obama] was born. He was born in the U.S.”
Actually, there’s a big question about where Obama was born. And there are still many people asking it. A CNN poll in 2010 showed that 58 percent of respondents had doubts about Obama’s birth story.
If Romney wants to ignite the grass roots, he’ll quit running from the birther controversy and bring it up at every opportunity — or at least until Obama provides an original copy of his birth certificate and proves he is a natural-born citizen. And while he’s at it, perhaps he could provide proof he attended Columbia. It’s quite curious not one of his classmates remembers him there.
