Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole

Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole
PHOTOS.COM

Did you know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been spending hundreds of millions of dollars trying to get more people to sign up for food stamps?

I kid you not. One of the most absurd examples was “a 10-part series of Spanish-language ‘novelas’ that trumpeted the benefits of the food stamp program.”

In the public service announcements, several people pressure a wife and mother named Diana to sign up for assistance, even though she says she doesn’t need it.

In the fourth commercial, Diana says (in Spanish): “I don’t need help from anyone. My husband makes enough to take care of us.” That’s a great example of traditional American values, wouldn’t you say?

Apparently, it isn’t for the folks at the USDA, who produced the advertising campaign in 2008.

Diana’s friends keep badgering her to wise up and get with the program. Ultimately, they win her over. By the end of the series, Diana has her own food stamp Electronic Benefit Transfer card and has become an enthusiastic proponent of letting Uncle Sam buy her groceries.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) was just one of many Congressmen who condemned the series of messages: “It has become increasingly clear that, in recent years, the mission of the food stamp program has been converted from targeted assistance for those in need into an aggressive drive to expand enrollment, regardless of need.”

Indeed it has. In the past decade, Federal spending on the food stamp program (technically known as SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) has more than quadrupled. In Fiscal 2011, more than $76 billion worth of food stamps were distributed to 45 million Americans.

But those staggering numbers aren’t enough for some people. As Sessions put it: “The program administrators take personal offense when people who technically qualify for their largesse decline to accept — and see it as an obstacle to overcome.”

In the 1970s, just one American in 50 received food-stamp benefits. Now that number is one in seven. In other words, 15 percent of the U.S. population is dependent on food stamps.

Earlier this year, House Democrat leader Nancy Pelosi said that Barack Obama should wear the title of “Food Stamp President” as a “badge of honor.” If so, he’s a very honorable man; participation in the food stamp program jumped 50 percent since he took office. During the same period, the cost to U.S. taxpayers has almost doubled.

But the Federal food stamp program is just one example of Washington’s relentless drive to get more and more Americans on the dole. For example, did you know that more Americans have started receiving disability payments under Obama than the amount of new jobs that are being created?

As hard as that may be to believe, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that although the economy has created 2.6 million new jobs since June of 2009, during that same three-year period, some 3.1 million people began receiving disability benefits. In other words, the number of new disability enrollees is rising 19 percent faster than the number of new jobs being created. Counting dependents, more than 10 million people receive a disability check each month.

In fiscal 2011, the disability insurance program paid out $119 billion. Hold onto your hat, because the Congressional Budget Office says at the rate we’re going, that number will jump to $204 billion over the next 10 years. That’s a 71 percent increase.

But let’s not worry about what happens in 10 years. The CBO says that long before we get there, the disability trust fund will be insolvent. At the rate we’re going, we’ll hit that wall in just four more years.

By the way, here’s another depressing statistic about our disability program. Once someone gets on the program, by and large the only way that person ever leaves it is by dying. According to Social Security Administration numbers, only 1 percent of disability recipients ever get healthy enough to return to work.

And finally, let me add a few words about another effort by the Obama Administration that makes it it easier to receive a welfare check.

In 1996, President Bill Clinton and Republicans in Congress agreed to make sweeping changes in this country’s welfare program. The reform bill they passed, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act, created the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program and required welfare recipients to look for work to be eligible for benefits. It even specified which activities would qualify as “work.” And as the name of the program implied (note the word “Temporary” in the title), such benefits were supposed to be short-term. Of course, there is nothing so permanent as a “temporary” government program.

Nevertheless, the results of the welfare-reform legislation were startling. Throughout the Nation, welfare caseloads, which had remained unchanged for decades, dropped dramatically. Poverty numbers declined; employment among single mothers soared. And ever since, the measure has been hailed as a remarkable bipartisan success story.

Until last month, that is. On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.

Republican Congressmen are outraged at what they see as another illegal seizure of power by the Obama Administration. Senator Orin Hatch (R-Utah) declared: “Gutting welfare work requirements with the stroke of a pen and without congressional input is simply unacceptable and cannot be allowed to stand. Neither the Obama Administration nor any Administration should have the power to unilaterally change the law as it sees fit.” (I wonder if he hasn’t been paying attention for the past four years.)

Add it all up and what do you get? Yes, massive new increases in Federal spending; that goes without saying. But the other result is millions more Americans on the government dole.

And now for the $16 trillion question: How do you think these new welfare recipients will vote?

A good quote — erroneously attributed at various times to both Alexis de Tocqueville and Alexander Fraser Tytler — to keep in mind is:

“A democracy… can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury.”

But it sure is accurate, isn’t it?

I’m not saying that this country has reached the point of no return. But it’s become pretty obvious that Obama and his allies are doing everything they can to get us there.

Will they succeed? You had better do everything you can to make sure the answer is no.

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

The federal money spent on the poor and unemployed working class and middle class is a drop in the bucket compared to the massive corporate welfare and tax subsidies for the mega-capitalists. Romney and his country club buddies will massively increase these advantages for the rich, the corporate pigs, and the military killing machine, while he cuts social programs, education, infrastructure, etc. Get ready for massive increase in unemployment if Romney wins 14% in the official unemployment rate up from the current 8% rate and 25% poverty up from the current 16% official rate.

    • Dave67

      Mark,

The poor and middle class’s solution is simple… create an army of lobbyists on K street and go to $1000 a plate dinners for the politicians… The bottom 50% that own 2% of this country’s wealth can surely do that can’t they? Thats how the wealthy get their policy passed…

Israel has new friends in the “Tea Party” after they paid people like Ben Quayle and the rest of the freshman GOP clown posse to come to Israel on a vaca… I mean “fact finding” mission.

Conservatism as practiced in this country is a mental disorder.

The Conservatrons also want the bottom 50% to pay more income tax if you listen to their BS, because they have the money…

      • DaveH

You’re not talking about Conservatives, Dave67. You’re talking about NeoConservatives.
For those not familiar with the disinformation tactics that are used by Progressive shills like Dave67:
        http://personalliberty.com/2012/08/07/disinformation-how-it-works/

At any rate, instead of making blanket accusations, how about being more specific, Dave67?

      • Dave67

Note DaveH uses the tern Necon because conservatives are NEVER responsible for anything…

Why does DaveH and the rest of the conservative Cabal ever use the term neoliberal?

Conservatism… it means never having to be responsible for anything.

      • DaveH

More adolescent manipulative attempts by Dave67.
Seek Help, Dave67, you need it badly.

      • Dave67

        Truth hurts doesn’t DaveH?

I never hear you say one bad thing about conservatives… You say people like Bush 2 simply are not conservatives to sidestep reponsibility or a person is a Neocon once they gain real power and the true nature of conservatives in this country is exposed.

Once of these days you will learn to think critically, but obviously that day is not today.

We have been subservient to Israel for decades. We have become a complete patsy in the Middle East to all nations involved.

      • Gea

Israel is the ONLY functional democracy in the Middloe East, surrounded by dysfunctional Muslim majority countires that blame all their problems on Jews and America, refusing to take responsibility for their own lives, just ,like many welfare people do.

With Islam staging war against Western civlization (there are already 50 millions of Muslims in Europe who had replaced 6 millions of Jews that Nazi murdered with the help of local anti-semitic populations, Israel had become the first line of defense of the Western civliztaion against this supremacist ideology of Islam, very similar to supremacist Nazi ideology, in addition to dhimmitude, misogyny, pedophlia, and murder for Allahu Akbar. America also sends billions of oil to Saudi Arabia, which finances Islamic terrorism around the world, preaching hatred of Americans and Jews in mosques around the world.

      • Dave67

        Gea,

Ask the Muslims in Israel how well that democracy is working out for them?

      • Gea

As long as those Muslims in Israel respect the law and do not try to murder Jews and Christians, they do OK, and for most part would never move to ANY Muslim majority country in the neighborhood. The Muslims in East Jerusalem are terrifies that they may be ruled by Fatah or Hamas if Israel give up this part of Jerusalem for “peace with Palestinians”. Israel is the only true democracy where the rights of ALL are respected. The Bahai’i supreme council is in Haifa, even thgough Bahaiu’i religion comes from Iran, where they are persecuted. There was no wall between Israel and West Bank when I lived in Israel from 1971-1976, and the wall is a consequence of terrorist attacks by Arabs on Jewish cafes and buses.

Arabs had attacked Israel in order to annihilate it in 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 wars in numerous intifadas and rockets are still falling almost daily from Gaza on Israeli towns. Israel has a right to defend itself from terrorism coming from Muslims surrrounding it, especially when Egypt is ruled by Jihadeists who again are beating war drums. In addition there is Ahmedinijad who want to “wipe Israel from the map of the world”.

When 9/11 happened those “poor Palestinians” were on the roof tops celebrating “greatness” of AL-Quada. Koran and Hadith teach Muslim kids to hate Jews and Christians and kill infidels.

  • Dave67

Chip once again is not being honest like most writers here… Obama is not the Dictator of the United States, he is the President. Congress and the President in that order are responsible for things not getting done to fix our fundamentally broken system.

I guess political power and corp money now trump the good of the country….

    • DaveH

What did Chip say that was dishonest, Dave67?
      Be specific please.

      • Dave67

“Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole”

That is an outright lie… Congress plays a role here not just the President #1

“Nancy Pelosis say Obama should wear the “food stamp president” as a badge of honor …

No context about how and why it was uttered…Why would a right wing hack put the words into context? Sort of like “You didn’t build it”… Pelosi was talking about the alternative in a recession that people didn’t have enough money to eat.

“Until last month, that is. On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.”

This is a loveley bit of BS.

Obama gave the Governors local control to get people back to work as long as they show measurable gains in that regard. Many GOP governors also signed off on that desire as well… Including one Willard Mitt Romney, Haley Barbour, and the head doofus from TX Rick Perry

        http://www.barackobama.com/truth-team/entry/the-letter-that-exposes-romneys-false-welfare-attackand-its-incredible-hypo

Here is the letter if you care to read it.

        Thats for starters…

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — ““Obama Puts Millions More On The Dole”
That is an outright lie… Congress plays a role here not just the President #1″.
That doesn’t stop you when you’re talking about Bush, Dave67. Why is that? Of course, I know it’s because you’re a hypocrite.
But Obama has veto power over anything Congress passes. And if he didn’t approve of such, I sure haven’t seen that disapproval. Maybe, Dave67, you could link us to a reference of such disapproval?

      • JeffH

Dave67, you have no credibility at all posting a link to an Obama run website and railing others over mises, cato, heritage et al.

I suppose, using your argumentum ad nauseam, it can be said that your referenced source drives your thought process.

        Excuse me while I puke!

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — “No context about how and why it was uttered…Why would a right wing hack put the words into context? Sort of like “You didn’t build it”… Pelosi was talking about the alternative in a recession that people didn’t have enough money to eat.”.
The “you didn’t build it” is right here for anybody who doesn’t believe it to see. Straight from the donkey’s mouth:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKjPI6no5ng
I will post the long version in the following comment for those who insist that it was taken out of context.
Anyway, Dave67, feel free to provide that context to us. Since you think it was taken out of context, you obviously have seen the full version, so post a link, Dave67. You surely don’t think that any of the regular readers are going to take Your word for it?

      • DaveH

        Full version of Roanoke speech:
        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzf4yjphgf8

      • Dave67

        Sorry DaveH,

I never blamed Bush 2 for the economy, the main culprits were not Bush 2 although he helped. Stop the misinformation DaveH, of I forgot, that is what you do.

        JeffH,

Did not read the letter did you? Thought not… Go back and stick your head in the sand and wait for further RNC instruction on what to think.

      • DaveH

Dave67 says that Chip’s statement — “Until last month, that is. On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.” — “is a loveley bit of BS”.
Yet the TANF memorandum issued by HHS says:
“HHS is encouraging states to consider new, more effective ways to meet the goals of TANF, particularly helping parents successfully prepare for, find, and retain employment. Therefore, HHS is issuing this information memorandum to notify states of the Secretary’s willingness to exercise her waiver authority under section 1115 of the Social Security Act to allow states to test alternative and innovative strategies, policies, and procedures that are designed to improve employment outcomes for needy families”.
        http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ofa/policy/im-ofa/2012/im201203/im201203.html
Since when does the President have the ability to change laws? Only Congress can do that legally. Now we know that Dave67 is all for Dictatorship, but are you, Folks?
Those who want to do further study on this issue should also read the article that Chip linked to.

      • Dave67

        For DaveH

        Here is the speech…

“If you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. ”

So now here comes the part where conservatives lie…

****Somebody invested in roads and bridges.***** If you’ve got a business — *****you didn’t build that.*****Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet

If you see what I starred when Obama said “You did not build that” he was referring to the roads and bridges…

The conservatives lied clearly…. But the conservatives always lie to get more power…

        They did it here
        Medicare
        Spending
        Welfare

This is nothing new… With as much research as you say you do, you should know this… But then again, you are a proven huckster.

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — “I never blamed Bush 2 for the economy, the main culprits were not Bush 2 although he helped. Stop the misinformation DaveH, of I forgot, that is what you do”.
        Misinformation? Are there 2 Dave67′s?

      • DaveH
      • Dave67

Once again… DaveH is full of misinformation and disinformation… DaveH is now playing the role of Stretch Armstrong saying I want a dictatorship because Obama gave the Governors including Mitt Romney, Haley Barbour and Rick Perry the flexibility to get people back to work and if they circumvent the welfare law, they must show MEASURABLE results to do so…

DaveH, I thought you did not like the Fed Gov controlling our lives? You just proved yourself a phony yet again…

Ronald Reagan, George W Bush went around congress to change immigration law or did you forget?

Keep on going DaveH, you are showing everyone here that you distort, whine and play the poor little victim when you been caught in your BS.

        More DaveH BS exposed….

      • DaveH

And before you start your next equivocating comment, Dave67, here are my exact words — “That doesn’t stop you when you’re talking about Bush, Dave67″.
Did I say anything about economy?
The thing is, Dave67, you are a chronic liar. Apparently you can’t help yourself. That’s why you have no credibility with the regular readers.

      • DaveH

Seek help, Dave67, you are one sick puppy.

      • Dave67

LOL… All those links you gave does not attribute Bush to anything but what HE is responsible for… Bush 2 is responsible for the 3T Iraq debacle, Bush is responsible for the 1.7T tax cuts while at war, Bush 2 is responsible for the Medicare “reform to the tune of 600B.

Did I say Bush created the hosing bubble? No… Did I say Bush was responsible for the trade policies we have? No…. Did I say Bush was the starter of tax cut and spend? No….

Go back and try again Stretch….

      • DaveH

Do you really think you’re fooling anybody, Dave67?
        You have no credibility.

      • JeffH

Dave67, I had no intention of reading “the letter”, that has nothing to do with the point I was making. Of course I do realize that is a little to complicated for someone who relies on information provided by Obama and his minions to understand.

      • Dave67

        JeffH

Of Course you won’t read the RGA letter because it runs off message of your GOP masters…

Like I said, you go back home and wait for further RNC instruction….

      • JeffH

Dave67, like I said before…you missed the point of my comment…your attempt to re-direct is futile.

Perhaps you’d have better luck spreading your bile on the Newsvine, Daily Kos or the Democratic Underground blogs. I’m quite sure they’d be more receptive to you progressive trolls over there.

      • Dave67

        JeffH,

Yes, stay in the bubble… Don’t ever leave the bubble…Even though I provided a link to disprove the BS in the article that is germane to to discussion..

Don’t leave the bubble… The world is a scary place and it is clear that conservatives are the most frieghtened group in this country. You actually may have to challenge your belief system if you did… and that is super scary for people like you.

  • KQJM

According to Forbes magazine, Obama has spent less than any other President in recent history. You can see the graph comparisons here: http://tinyurl.com/c6b2acy

So ask yourself why this article is drumming up hate to target the most vulnerable of society…. while they focus your attention here, what are you NOT looking at?

This is the same tactic a magician uses….. displace attention so they don’t notice what’s going on right under their noses elsewhere.

    • DaveH

You can see the actual Federal Government expenditures right here:
      http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spending_chart_2000_2011USb_13s1li111mcn_F0f_US_Federal_Spending

Notice that the spending under Obama has been $.5 Trillion higher every year than in Bush’s highest spending year (2008).

      • Smilee

This is not a government site that Dave refers us to, nor can I find who is behind it no about information and none of the charts identify corporate welfare specifically and this is a much bigger part of the pie than the welfare slice shown. There are many indicators that this is a conservative site but they do not identify it as such but it is partisan the only sites Davie every visits which limits his access to the whole picture thus limiting his understanding of the whole picture.

One could equate Republican members of Congress who are not in power to be welfare recipients also, because they are being paid too much more than the poor unemployed. It could be said that the losers in an election campaign should not receive such large payments.

If a any country offers tax cuts [ie a reduction in the level of theft] but continues to spend money on various programs buy borrowing more, then I do agree with DaveH, those tax reductions will only be loans until such times as those loans have to be repaid and the taxes will have to be reintroduced at a much higher rate on those who are earning the income…the rich always end up paying. The poor dont have anything to give so those who have are the ones the the government will steal from more and more. The wealthy cant get out of paying taxes as the poor remain poor and i dont thing anyone has worked out how to get blood out of a stone.

IMO its a falacy to expect that if you save a little money on the FOOD STAMPS your offer [which IS WELFARE by another name] that the rich will pay less tax, because short of shooting the poor…someone has to pay to look after these people or do we have magicians amoungst us here today.

The rich and middle classess always end up paying one way or the other NOW or LATER. PAY NOW OR PAY LATER,,,,THOSE ARE THE ONLY TWO OPTIONS.

If you feel you are being over run by mexicans, then maybe you might like to pass the burden onto the next generations, but the chances your children if still rich will have to pay with higher taxes….

    Whats the solution guys? lol

  • The Gizmo51

According to Ralph Nader almost 30 million workers earn less that $10 an hour and that’s not enough to live on and wants the minimum wage raised to at least $10 an hour. No wonder so many Americans are on Food Stamps even if working.

    • http://gillysrooms.blogspot.com GILLYSROOMS IN AUSTRALIA

In Australia, the minimum wage for adults is more than $10 ph …our farmers are required to pay fruit pickers a miminum wage of $19.50 per hour…. we could do with some of your underpaid workers to apply to move to Australia as we have trouble convincing our unemployed on welfare to go do some work any work even at $19.50 per hour . The rates are lower for 15- 18 year olds though working at KFC etc.

I might suggest to some of our Australian companies to set up businesses in USA if they can get good workers at $10 per hour…sounds cheap but not as cheap as in Thailand who offer workers at $1.50 per hour….and in China it must be cheaper still….might explain why you can buy a timber house from China at a much cheaper price shipped out in a Container at less than half the price you can buy and build the houses in the USA for….could explain why your unemployed are likely to remain unemployed for some many years to come..?

    • DaveH

Why are Americans on Food Stamps?
Government Spending in 1900 — 3% of GDP
Government Spending now — 40% of GDP
My mother used to tell me that money doesn’t grow on trees. Unless of course they are Federal Reserve trees.
Government is robbing us blind, and you Progressive Followers wonder why so many are on Food Stamps?

Look at this chart…. the blue illustrates WELFARE costs as a percentage of Public Debt!!!!
    http://tinyurl.com/245hu6x

AND, this welfare category INCLUDES expenditures like police and firemen!

I have to say, reading these posts, I wonder if most of you know that WELFARE benefits for adults in most states is LIMITED to 2-5 years total for a lifetime, depending on your state. And most welfare recipients are young white woman with children.

I have never seen such hate, contempt and disdain for the poor as I do in these posts.
When the wealthy hoard money offshore, invest in cheap labor in foreign countries, it leaves more and more of our own citizens with little opportunity to earn a livable wage here…. and you blame them???? Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the world, and the single largest employer in this country, suppresses wages to the point where they provide and assist their employees with public aid forms. Why not target the greedy, instead of the poor??? We are subsidizing not the poor, but the rich corporations who refuse to contribute to the society in which they operate! Who refuse to reduce PROFITS to provide livable wages (not ELIMINATE profit, just REDUCE it!)

    • Gea

I used to be a bleeding heart liberal, just like you, Sir. Then several toddlers were killed by boyfriends of their mothers who left those boyfriends to watch the kids. Also, I found out that in my county of 800,000 some 2,500 children are in foster care at any one time because their parents are incompetent to take care of them. Many foster families do it for money since they get $15/day/child so if they take in 3-4 kids they dont have to bother ever working. 75% of black and 45% of white babies are born out of Wedlock and don’t even know who their father is. It is hard enough when there are two functional parents to rise a good new human being and thos children are lucky if their mother is half-way fundtional….or if they have grandparents and aunts and uncles who are willing to take care of them.

We had created a dysfunctional society where on the bottom we have bottom freeders and on the top barakhudas, while the wmall working fish is squeezed between to work their butts off, while the bottom feeders get bored with nothing to do and end up crowding our prison system for drug and alcolchol related crimes.

      • KQJM

YOUR country is not THIS country. Our STATISTICS tell a different story. I’ve provided them. You don’t eliminate ignorance and dysfunction by pounding people deeper into poverty. You eliminate ignorance and dysfunction by providing a path UPWARD, not further DOWNWARD!!! And I am an independent, sir, not a Liberal. I am an evangelical sir, not an Ayn Rand atheist.

    • eddie47d

The thing is GEA is that the wealthy who are supposed to create jobs are not doing so. Are we to look up to these spoilers of our nations economy. Their greed has surpassed even their supporters with slick Stock Market transactions and Insider Trading.Their reckless behavior has not been kind to America either yet since they control most peoples lives in some way then the burden falls on them. When they recover from their self inflicted immoral behavior then maybe the economy can recover. I’m still baffled why more of those “money men” aren’t in prison for the damages they inflicted on our country. Aren’t you?

    • DAVE

Not only that, Walmart has built many factories in China to make the junk they sell. How American is that. I don’t want to hear it’s because of taxes and regulation in the US. It’s because of cheap labor PERIOD. Wake up folks!

  • Gea

Obama’s policies are Marxist Muslim, which lead to dysfunctional people who do not know how to take care of themselves but are bored and get into trouble. BO cavorting with Muslim Brotherhood and tacitly approving their genocidal supremacist ideology is not only making US soldiers unsafe, but US and indeed the entire Western civilization , which is under attack by the supremacist ideology of Islam similar to Nazi supremacist ideology, except that it also promotes dhimmitude, misogyny, pedophilia and murder for Allahu Akbar.

Both Marxism and Islamism are failed ideology which have no place in any country that respects human rights. Obama will lose in a landslide in November, because Americans are waking up to the danger to US and Western civilization that he represents. He can then to to his king in Saudi Arabia or his Muslim Brothers in Egypt or in Kenya ;-) !

    • Flashy

Other than being unable to in any way rationalize your rant…what is it about Obama that makes you believe he is a “marxist” or a ‘muslim”..other than the rotten spiel given out by the controlled TP ?

    • eddie47d

Obama may or may not win in November but he will not lose in a landslide. He is also not cavorting with the Muslim Brotherhood or deliberately making American troops unsafe. You sir are a hate monger who is emotionally unstable.

      • KG

Our President, Mr. Obama, is not a muslim. He’s about as Muslim as Jimmy Carter. Please tell me one quote from the Bible he was wrong on.

okay, let me get this straight, OBAMA is pushing people onto food stamps with a spanish novela that was produced by the FDA in 2008????? UH……wasnt Bush president at that time……and you can say the same thing about every single act a president ever does while he is in office is pandering to some person for a vote………you just CHOOSE to demonize Obama because you dont like him……Republicans, when he was elected decided they would not work with him on ANYTHING and they haven’t… people are on food stamps because they are not making enough money working to live AND eat and pay for a roof over their head……Republicans dont want to increase the minimum wage because let’s face it….most POOR people on food stamps dont vote…..if they did, this wouldnt even be a close election, so for you to say democrats want people on food stamps so they can get votes is foolish…..I think I did see reports on the liberal media that the BLUE states SUPPORT most of the RED states…..meaning the blue states pay more in taxes than they receive in government money and red states receive more money from the government than they pay in taxes……so you should shut your trap….I think it is the RED STATES that are on the government dole

    • KQJM

      Amen to that!

    • Dave67

      Bingo Johnny!

You hit it right on the head… More of the blame Obama game when the blame lies in Reagan, Clinton, Carter, Bush1 and 2 and their Congresses.

This bad economy was not born overnight… its was created over decades…

Notice the debt of this country did not explode until Reagan got his filthy mitts on the economy.

    • DaveH

Johnny says — “okay, let me get this straight, OBAMA is pushing people onto food stamps with a spanish novela that was produced by the FDA in 2008?????”.
Yes, Johnny, let’s get it Straight. Where did Chip say that Obama was responsible for the novela?

Johnny says — “people are on food stamps because they are not making enough money working to live AND eat and pay for a roof over their head”.
So what’s your solution, Johnny? More of the same Bigger Government? Einstein’s Definition of Insanity — Doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.

Johnny says — “Republicans dont want to increase the minimum wage because let’s face it….most POOR people on food stamps dont vote”.
Do you have any references back up your conjecture, Johhny, that most poor people on food stamps don’t vote?
The minimum wage results in lost jobs. An employer is in the business of making money, otherwise why bother? If they can’t get a decent return on their money, then why would you expect them to put their mental and physical labor into the operation of a business? Given that and market competitive restraints, they have a limited amount of money to devote to hiring people. They hire workers who will give them a return on their investment. So if a worker can only produce, say, $7/hr worth of product but the minimum wage is $8/hr, why would any employer want to hire him/her? So they don’t, and the potential worker goes wanting for a job.
So the Progressive Leaders, in their vote-buying zeals, are really just screwing the poor people who would otherwise have a much easier time of finding a job.

      • Johnny

okay dave, let me get this straight…..you dont want people to get paid more money because it will affect the profit of business owners, they have a business, they cant pay more than 7.00 an hour because there wont be any profit. SO….a worker who has that job, goes and gets educated so they dont have to work for scrooge, they lift themself out of poverty to become middle class, and guess what, you have another poor sap filling the job that person just left who makes peanuts too….so THAT person needs help…..and you want to gut the programs that help these people who work at these menial jobs make some sort of living…what a great human being you must be to see through your rose colored lenses…..how the only thing we care about is the poor business owner who cant have an extra caddy or expedition because he has to pay his people a little more money….maybe people wouldnt mind paying a little more for things if they knew it went so people can get off the govt dole……which is how YOU people put it……what FACTS do YOU have that these programs are on ONLY so people can vote democrat…..maybe these programs are there so people are robbing the rich in their gated communities because of the vast difference between one area and another…..I am sure there are many republicans, who are too embarassed or ashamed to post here who have benefitted from these programs when their company laid them off,,,,and they have the skills or education to get another well paying job, not everyone is so fortunate and if we didnt have people who didnt get educated and made 6 figures who would be there to work in your business that pays single digits an hour

      • DaveH

Johnny says — “a worker who has that job, goes and gets educated so they dont have to work for scrooge”.
Scrooge? Johnny, what’s keeping you from starting your own company and paying workers more than they’re worth? Show us how it’s done instead of just giving us lip service.

      • DaveH

Johnny says — “and you want to gut the programs that help these people who work at these menial jobs make some sort of living…what a great human being you must be to see through your rose colored lenses”.
Actually, Johnny, I’m a much better person than you. First of all, I don’t rationalize using Government to steal other peoples’ money, like you do. Secondly, I care about the people who can’t find any kind of work thanks to pretend do-gooders like yourself who won’t educate themselves to the reality of economies. You obviously don’t care about those who can’t find work. I do.
It is you, Johnny, who looks at things through rose-colored glasses, Hoping an Dreaming that your Progressive Policies, which have been proven failures around the world, will somehow work this time.
        Educate yourself, Johnny:

      • Johnny

i guess you would be happy dave, for those who are on welfare or food stamps to work for china wages, 4.00 an hour maybe so that business owners can make a decent return on their investment…..I dont think yanking the rug out from the poor and working poor is the way to make them self sufficient…..unions got formed in the early 20th century because of the things you are promoting…..

  • KG

Ya know, sometimes you have to ask your self the question, “Who is the Government?” According to the Constitution, WE ARE! The right powers of government come from the consent of the Governed. Now, we are supposed to have the right to vote. However, when less than 25% of the eligible voters actually vote, it’s hard to say if the consent of the People is really being addressed. And now, with Karl Rove, Grover Norquist et.al. trying to disenfranchise as many voters as they can, how could any Americand think these idiots actually want to do what the People want? Ronals Reagan never killed one gay or stoped a single abortion. Think about that.

  • DavidL

Obama has nothing to do with it. It is our social safety net policy and has been the law for many, many years. Here is a brief overview of what it does just for the poor.

“About 13 percent of the federal budget in 2011, or $466 billion, went to support programs that provide aid (other than health insurance or Social Security benefits) to individuals and families facing hardship. Spending on safety programs declined in both nominal and real terms between 2010 and 2011 as the economy continued to improve and initiatives funded by the 2009 Recovery Act began to expire.

These programs include: the refundable portion of the earned-income and child tax credits, which assist low- and moderate-income working families through the tax code; programs that provide cash payments to eligible individuals or households, including Supplemental Security Income for the elderly or disabled poor and unemployment insurance; various forms of in-kind assistance for low-income families and individuals, including food stamps, school meals, low-income housing assistance, child-care assistance, and assistance in meeting home energy bills; and various other programs such as those that aid abused and neglected children.

Such programs keep millions of people out of poverty each year. A Center analysis shows that government safety net programs kept some 25 million people out of poverty in 2010. Without any government income assistance, either from safety net programs or other income supports like Social Security, the poverty rate would have been nearly double in 2010 (28.6 rather than 15.5 percent).”

    • DaveH

That’s it, DavidL. Keep rationalizing while our Country’s economy slips further into the Abyss.

    • Pathfinder

David : your 28% number matches the pretty close to the 35% or !00+ million people that are getting “unearned” government aid. The 35% number does not include SS and medicare which represents 15-17 %.of people who actually paid into the system that adds up to about 50% of the nation “dependent ” on government. All of this “keeping people out of poverty” doubled in the last 3 1/2 years underOBAMA.
If Obama cared about America he would not have allowed the restrictive laws that are choking business and growth, this includes his masterpiece legislation , The AHCA (Obamacare). That single law, with its complexities and Pelosi’s “we will find out what in the law after we sign it ” did more to stifle business than any other legislation. The intricacies of the AHCA will further drive up costs and taxes to unknown levels and thus provide a weak economy and further financial ruin for America and its citizens
OBAMA and his cronies have accomplished “Fundamentally Changing America’ by placing every one that lives in the USA into” financial slavery”.
……………… Welcome to democracy’s version of SOCIALISM !

  • eddie47d

Actually the lousy economy under G Bush put most folks and welfare. Poor leadership from Obama hasn’t helped either. The rising unemployment and the loss of those benefits put more folks on welfare. The private job creators who aren’t producing enough jobs for everyone accelerate those going on welfare. How can we expect Corporates to hire when their CEOs demand and get outrageous salaries and golden parachutes. In reality there is nothing left for hiring which keeps folks on welfare. The Republicans who refuse to get jobs bills passed help keep the welfare rolls extremely high. Those businesses a few years ago who gladly sent jobs overseas increased unemployment here which eventually has lead to more folks seeking welfare. I would put the blame squarely on the shoulders of our do nothing Congress and the lack of Loyalty from American businesses who are making record profits but are also kept in limbo by Democrats and Republicans alike. Lets also not forget lazy Americans who once get on welfare won’t let go. Now take a look in the mirror and pick out your favorite culprit for there are plenty to go around.

    • DaveH

Eddie says — “The private job creators who aren’t producing enough jobs for everyone accelerate those going on welfare”.
And they can do that with what, Eddie, when the Government is taking their money and increasing the expensive regulatory hurdles they must clear?

      • eddie47d

Many regulations were canned years ago which allowed those wealthy job creators to crash the economy. Tax rates have hardly budged either and the job creators were actually given a break on that one.

      • DaveH

You’re equivocating, Eddie. Some rules have been scrapped but over all the number of regulations is bigger than ever:

The over desire to get free ,,,anything,, something for nothing . This only serves to show the unethical slime bags that will accept food stamps to begin with is the very downfall of the nation. You can bet there will always be some slimey leader who will offer other peoples money to the ,,Takers, to be re-elected. That is where the people with morals will decline the offer to be a slave.

    • http://yahoo Charles Arthur Williams

So what about the freebies to the rich?

    • Paul Wells

Well, now..to be fair…there ARE some people that are very deserving of food stamps. I quarrel however, with the idea that the vast numbers of people that are drawing them, all deserve them. I believe the procedures for getting food stamp assistance are fairly rigorous in determining need. What I also know for a fact, is the procedures to KEEP them coming are not so rigorous. And..as always…you have some people that falsify their applications and get them that way. But there are some that need them, so don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!

    • Chester

So you consider anyone living on social security payments that, even when SSI is added in, still leave them living far below the poverty line, slime bags that are unfit to live in YOUR world simply because they gladly take those food stamps you so thoroughly despise to put food in their bellies. SIR, YOU are the slimebag who has less right to exist than the roach I stomped on as he scurried away from the sink.

      • DaveH

First of all, it is immoral to forcefully take other peoples’ money. Alas, in this day and age, morality is a rare commodity.
But economically, it just doesn’t pan out. Giving other peoples’ money away to those who didn’t earn it just creates a moral hazard. That is, those who receive the money are inclined to work less to take care of themselves, those who take the money are further emboldened to take more, and the victims of the theft are inclined to work less since they can’t keep the fruits of their own labor. Those conditions inevitably lead to the decline of the economy which hurts all of us, poor or not, except those few who are Politically Connected.
See the countries at the bottom of the list to see where we’re headed if we continue to let the Progressives smooth-talk us into increasing Socialism:
        http://heritage.org/index/ranking

      • GALT

Since the money isn’t real, trade it for real money….or real fruit…..then you will have the “fruits of your labor”………whatever that means…….

You could also learn how not to pay taxes, which would give you nothing to complain about………not even inflation would affect you……

” To conquer, first DIVIDE!” ( and then hang separately )

      • Ted Crawford

You suggest that Social Security leaves one below the poverty line, you are right, of course, itwas never intended to be ones sole source of retirement income! It was ment to be equal to about 1/3rd of anyones retirement income! At that time people were far more personally responsible than now, it was expected that one would secure employment at a business that offered retirement benefits, and then that the individule themselves would have the commomsense to save the other 1/3rd on their own!
That’s what I did, while many of my fellow workers chose to spend their money on newer cars, bigger houses, lavish vacations, now they are in trouble and can’t understand why my Wife and I aren’t, yet that is. If Obama is re-elected, all bets are off!

      • GALT

Actually, Ted when passed in 1935, it wasn’t really intended to pay anyone anything,
because actuarial tables didn’t predict that many people actually surviving to ‘retirement age” in any numbers that would have made it necessary to have a “trust fund”, since current employment and anticipated population growth would have kept the ratio of workers to retirees in line with the pay as you go model……….

Unfortunately, unlike an insurance company, which would have caught the problem sooner
and adjusted the rates accordingly…..the idiots in government “ignored” the problem, used the funds as general revenue, and political capital, and here we are……

Be careful what you wish for……..Romney is far more dangerous to your future on almost every level………

    • Karolyn

“the unethical slime bags that will accept food stamps to begin with”
I would like to see you say that to the children who are hungry, to those who live in Appalachia and many who have had to partake of the program. Would you rather we go back to poorhouses and serious increases of people begging on the streets? Gee, would that we could all be perfect like you.

FOOD STAMPS are another form of currency instead of printing more money. If the FOOD STAMPS are used to buy American food produce, then local farmers are benefiting from this new currency being able to sell more produce than otherwise. Its another form of subsidy for small business and the poor middle class cant then complain they cannott afford to buy food. But I bet not all of those Food Stamps are ever used. Does anyone know what percentage are never used or traded for other products or cigarettes assuming that is possible in the USA?

      • Johnny

if you sell your food stamps, it is standard that you get half in cash for what you sell, 100.00 in food stamps for 50.00 in cash is the normal going rate….dave has it right there, most people sell their food stamps to pay bills or buy meds…some buy drugs, it just depends on who it is, but most people I know need every dollar they have……doesnt mean they dont work either……when you are the working poor….meaning you are in one of these great minimum wage jobs, you cant afford to pay rent, normal bills and eat…..maybe some of you republicans should get one and see how you just are able to sock all kinds of cash away for retirement and emergencies….and if you are a bracket above, say making 9 or ten an hour, you are one broken vehicle away from the same boat

      • DaveH

Does it mean anything to you, Johnny, that the US Government has grown 13 times the size of the 1900 US Government, and still those poor people are suffering? Doesn’t that make you just a little curious as to why they haven’t delivered on all those promises that allowed them to grow so large?

      • Karolyn

Johnny said “most people sell their food stamps to pay bills or buy meds…some buy drugs, it just depends on who it is,” I challenge you to prove this ridiculous accusation. Of course there are abusers, but there is also a large segment of those receiving benefits that like to eat; and I would venture to guess that they are not abusers, especially since so many more of the middle class have fallen into that bracket.

    • Chester

NO argument when it comes to admitting that some abuse the program, but will say that most of the true food stamp abusers are druggies, and this is simply another way of getting what they “NEED.” It is a little harder to let someone else use your EBT card than to hand them physical stamps, but by the same token, it is harder to catch someone using someone else’s card. All you have to do is swipe the card and punch in the proper PIN number and away you go.

      • dcjdavis

I had a guy approach me in a grocery and offer to buy my groceries on his card if I would then give him half the amount in cash. I said no and he looked at me as if he thought I was incredibly stupid. Made me feel like I really was stupid…but honest. I imagine he soon found some dishonest smart person to take his offer.

“On July 12, the Health and Human Services Department issued an administrative order that effectively reversed the 16-year-old work requirements contained in that landmark legislation.”

False. this is one of the latest lies and myths the Right is trying to spin. it boggles the mind the Right is against the directive. it’s indicative that no matter what the policy, what the direction, what the goal … they place politics above that of nation.

The Directive mr. Wood comments upon and casts it negatively, allows the states to take over the program and operate it without federal intervention. The one condition is that the state program and management show a 20% increase in the numbers working.

Now…how is a directive letting a state directly manage and administer as program as the state sees fit having a requirement to increase the numbers working, a negative?

After you explain that one…try ‘retroactive resignation” and “legitimate rape” (later you can try and tackle explaining “forcible rape”)

The GOP and conservatives will say any lie because they hate Obama that much… The funny part is if Obama had a (R) next to his name, The GOP would be putting up statues to the man, Reagan National would be renamed Obama National Airport.

Obama is actually giving the states the power to improve the unemployed number which supposedly conservatives like, but they twist that around into another lie.

Conservatives clearly do not care about this country, they care about their power…

    • DaveH

So DaveH gives us a right wing hack site trying put forth that Hong Kong is the ideal… Under China’s thumb LOL…

Oh and Canada with a Gov HC system is more free….

So while none of these countries DaveH mentions has what mises.org says is the ideal. Here is the ranking

        1) Hong Kong (a city)
        2) Singapore (who wants to live there? Anyone?, Population 5M)
        3) Australia (a country with the population of NYC)
        4) New Zealand ( Population of 10 million)
        5) Switzerland (Great place as long as you are white, oh and they have Gov requirements for HC too, only a country of a few million as well)
        6) Canada (Gov HC and all, population of 20 some odd million)
        7) Chile (population of 15 million, people are mandated to pay 7% of their salary to their HC by the guvmument)
        8) Mauritius (population 1M)
        9) Ireland (Gov HC and all)

        LOL!

#10 is the United States….the largest country economically in the world, the country that plays the part of the world police. They are number 10…

DaveH, as I said there is no country that meets the mises.org BS of the “free market” and they type of Gov it wants… You give us a ranking of countries that the right wing hack Heritage foundation feels is free, mostly free, moderately free, repressed under what the Heritage Foundation says…

You are a funny funny man DaveH…

      • DaveH

Dave67 says — “2) Singapore (who wants to live there? Anyone?, Population 5M)”.

    • Chester

Best go check the rules and regulations on getting food stamps if you for one minute think most illegals can qualify. No social security number, no proof of income, no verifiable address, NO food stamps. Why do you think so very few of the homeless can get any help from the government. Even when you have a valid social security number, you have to have a verifiable address AND proof of income or disability, No income because you are out of a job? Guess what, no food stamps. Low income, as long as you ARE working, you are eligible for all sorts of programs, but it seems that you do have to at the very least have a verifiable address to draw even TANF. Everybody on here keeps hollering how easy it is to get all these benefits, but no one bothers to actually go out and try to get them, or find out what is needed TO get them.

      • Nancy in Nebraska

Uhhhhhh Chester, you’re wrong!!! My daughter’s biological mother had three children. The first two were either given up or taken away from her. With the third, she hit the jackpot! She got to move into the salvation army shelter which meant free private room and three meals a day. They also provided the baby with diaper, clothes, formula, everything. She also received somewhat over $200 a month from aid to dependent children. Then she also received a little over $200 a month in food stamps. Since she got all of her food for free, there was a guard at the shelter who would go with the women to the store, get the food, then pay them half it’s value. She had it made. Over $300 a month for free. At some point they even got her own apartment for free. The gravy train ended when she let her boyfriend move into the apartment with her and he beat the baby to death. Without the baby, she no longer qualified for all the free stuff. Her response was “what am I supposed to do now?”. I know for a FACT that it is EASY to abuse the system!!!

Funny thing, seems to me that Boehner and company have done a better job of recycling the constitution than the president. Their job is to work for the people, not for themselves and whoever has the biggest pie to give them. I hear gripes about how Obama has done this and Obama has done that, but why, pray tell, do we hear NOTHING about what the house and senate have done other than tell each other NO. This has been especially true of those of Tea Party ancestry, as NO seems to be the ONLY word they know. They may have initiated some legislation that has a snowballs chance of making it through the legislative process, but, if they have, it has made no waves for me to hear about.

      • Jim

If only it was that simple big easy. America is at a SERIOUS intersection. The ruling class in America has finally arrived at a place where the public has very few rights left. Look at WHO is running for office. It isn’t ordinary Americans. The majority of Citizens can not afford to run for office. Those that regularly abuse money and the influence it can buy are completely in control. There is n o longer ANY real difference between the two political parties. BOTH are out to RULE, not govern. The Constitution gives the answer so many have written to ask about, What are we to do? The Constitution and the Bill of rights explains clearly and without any “shading” That when the Government gets out of the control of the Citizens it should be replaced! The US government is arguably out of the control of the Citizen today. Factually, Americans have no real hope of voting out the violators… the rules have been “rigged” Gun control? welfare?? These are nothing more than a vision of the fear that the ruling class has about the American People. Pretty much, the ruling class has engineered things to make it almost impossible for dis satisfied Citizens to take back America for the masses rather than for the elitist ruling class. Think about it! 500 souls control the daily destiny of 300 million Americans. One of two things is going to happen… Americans are going to rebel and overthrow the current elected rulers or America will become the latest failed form of Government. We have a LOT of work to do to get our Country back

The truth is, the food stamp program helps Farmers more than poor people. The food stamp program was designed to give farmers a market for their goods, That was when farmers would over produce and the market would collapse. So the Federal goverment would buy the excess to keep from farmers destroying their crop due to low prices.

Besides, most Wal Mart employes who work full time still qualify for food stamps. I hear that when you apply for a job at WAl Mart, they give you an application for food stamps.

This may be the “bread and circuses”, but it keeps from having food riots. The problem is that working Americans are not making enough. We need strong Labor unions to give these working people a voice. Why did Williy Sutton rob banks? Cause thats where the money is!!!!

    • http://PersonalLibertyDigest Ruth

You are right on! I also resent Congressmen equating Food Stamps welfare benefit with Social Security Disability benefits. We EARN disability benefits . SSDI is NOT welfare. It is ludicrous for a country to expect people who do physical labor for employment to all keep their bodies fuctioning like a young person until age 65.

      • stopspending

Evidently you did not carefully read the article or can not look more deeply at the numbers. There will always be people who are not able to work and the safety net should be there for them. The question is – Why are so many more people disabled now and unable to work than there were three years ago? What has changed to make people in record numbers now be unable to work? It is either a change in requirements from the gov or a change in attitudes of those applying or both. There has not been a national health emergency or natural disaster that has changed the health of so many people.

    • http://gillysrooms.blogspot.com GILLYSROOMS IN AUSTRALIA

KG, I ‘d say that the Food Stamps do more good to feed the poor and middle classes and some of the rich too I bet, than the farmers who have to do the work of risky farming, but they benefit too. In Australia I have seen some rich misers get free food and Food Vouchers from the welfare agencies and ive seen millionaires go to soup kitchens for free lunches just so they can save more money….you would be surprised how some rich dress like paupers and some poor dress like millionaires but are living on stolen or borrowed money…much like our generous governments do. However having said that…FOOD STAMPS do have their place in making sure more of the real poor are able to get food, than starve like the africans.

I dont think it would be a good look to have starving millions on American streets for all the world to see during this recession. Far better to continue the FOOD STAMP program than cut it out imo considering the big money being spent on Senators / Congressmen and various layers government administration wages and salaries.

Does anyone remember what happend during the French revolution?

KG says — “This may be the “bread and circuses”, but it keeps from having food riots. The problem is that working Americans are not making enough. We need strong Labor unions to give these working people a voice. Why did Williy Sutton rob banks? Cause thats where the money is!!!!”.
We would have no problem with Food Riots, if the Government butted out of the economy and quit taking a lion’s share of future Capital Investment from the Private Sector just to be consumed. Think Greece.
Labor Unions don’t give working people a voice, they simply steal from non-Union people — both the non-Union workers who have to pay higher prices for their goods, and the companies who they directly steal money from. When Union Workers make higher wages, where do you think that money comes from? The target companies must either pay their non-Union workers lower wages, or lay people off, or charge more for their products (if they can), or give up and close shop, or move out of the country to someplace where they get a better shake. There is no Free Lunch.
It’s fitting that you equate Unions with bank robbers, KG.

American incomes declined more in the three-year expansion that started in June 2009 than during the longest recession since the Great Depression, according an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by Sentier Research LLC.

Median household income fell 4.8 percent on an inflation-adjusted basis since the recession ended in June 2009, more than the 2.6 percent drop during the 18-month contraction, the research firm’s Gordon Green and John Coder wrote in a report today. Household income is 7.2 percent below the December 2007 level, the former Census Bureau economic statisticians wrote.

“Almost every group is worse off than it was three years ago, and some groups had very large declines in income,” Green, who previously directed work on the Census Bureau’s income and poverty statistics program, said in a phone interview today. “We’re in an unprecedented period of economic stagnation.”

If a foreign policy analyst were to lay a grid over the world and highlight countries successively according to a general classification scheme of socialist, Islamist, (petro-)dictatorship, or liberal democracy, one would find certain broad patterns emerging under the Obama administration. First, there is a tendency to favor socialist countries (including social democracies) over liberal democracies. Second, there is a tendency to favor Islamist movements over more secular dictators and even over liberal democratic Israel in the Middle East. Third, there is a tendency to favor petrodictatorships over other regimes in a given region, and even at the expense of the United States.

That actually sums up what the obama camp is doing. Blowing off everyone else’s money and no one is being accountable for what they are doing with it. Corruption is so thick that I hope and pray that Romney and Ryan get in and downsize, combine like programs and let programs go, get rid of the duplication as well as clean up the regulations and policies that actually are barriers to goals of each program created. This includes Education, EPA, NLB, jobs programs that government needs to hand over to the private sector because they do a lot of these better. TSA, GSA, EPA, NEA, NLB, VA all of these need either some serious cleaning up and out the corruption, abuse of funds, overreaching policies and so on. States don’t do job programs, daycare, housing, property management/selling, education …so I do believe that the private sector would be more efficient and cost effective which the obama camp is clueless or don’t care about. Maybe the objective is to flood the work place and government with so many regulations and policies and hiring so many people to fill committees and 15-member death panel that we can’t sort the stuff out and stop it before they take affect. The obama care is going to bankrupt 1 out of 6 hospitals and clinics as well as so many doctors or medical staff being cut so we need this gone. Forcing a single payer system has to be the objective to this madness by forcing doctors or medical staff out of business through reimbursements that are already too low they cannot even pay their own staff or meet their own monthly expenses. Amazing to me is that the obama camp knows this and still trying to sell it to the American People and people are still standing by him even though he hasn’t done a positive thing for this Country at all. A sad day for the Country if obama gets reelected again. (I have no respect for obama which is why I won’t put a capital on his name. He hasn’t earned his position and is attempting to strip us of our rights and freedoms. Want him gone so bad.)

They trade theif freedom for promises that Barry cannot deliver on
This is the path to servitude.

      • Jeff

Western Europe is in servitude? Canada in servitude? We’re the ones in servitude. If you’re over 50 and have a job, you dare not say anything that could jeopardize it because you might never be able to see a doctor again. That’s what you call freedom? Sounds like the definition of servitude to me.

      • Gea

The safety net that Europe has for its citizens (universal health care, disability etc.) is nice, but it is being severely tested by an influx of 50 millions Muslims from dysfucntional corrupt countries ruled by sharia. These Muslims get all kinds of dole and at the same time preach destruction of their host countries.

US pays for health care 2-3 times that of Europe and the result in health outcome is 34th, the same as Cuba which spends 100 TIMES less than US does! We also have dole for unwed mothers who often have children in order to get more money from the government and those children are abused or left to fend for themselves. There are many young able bodied men and women who are living on the dole and are sluggards who get into trouble from boredeom since they do not work.

Functional country is based on ecnouarging creative work and independence and not corruption, laziness and favoring those who know how to game a system, be it on the top, like bankers and Wall street guys, or welfare moms and dada. The working Americans are paying for both excesses. We DO need change but a Marxist Islamist that Obama is is NOT a kind of change we need.

We need an intelligent manager whose culture promotes work and functionality and does not encouarge sluggards to reporduce.

      • Jeff

Sounds like you would create quite a model for servitude. A Bureau of Intercourse, perhaps with prison time to those who fornicate without a license?

But you have pointed out the reasons the Healthcare Law was enacted. You then revert to ad hominem attacks on Obama, so anything he does must be evil. Recognize this. The Republicans talk about “repeal and replace.” If they succeed in repealing the Affordable Care Act, they will replace it with NOTHING. We will soon be paying 20% of GDP for healthcare, double what other western democracies are paying, with worse results (at least at the low end). Clearly, you recognize this but you can’t support anything Obama supports. The hang-up is yours.

      • Gea

Obama care stinks, because it complicates already extremely complicated system even more, craeting even more intermediaries. It will benefit again large insurance/hospital/pharma complex which pushes drugs and disease as a way to create profits. The universal, single payer system managed by government “bureaucrats” who had no incentive to “manage care” to make larger prophits for their insurance companies, hospitals or pharmaceutical companies, as they also have in France or Germany may be a good solution and save US lots of money and improve health of Americans.

Health care should be totally disassociated from business, which get stranded by paying for extreme costs ot care in US, and canno compete with European companies which do not have to provide health care for their employees becaue it is funded on a national level and prevention of diseases is encouraged.

Obama is dangerous to US, not only because of OBamacare, but because of his general Marxist beliefs and extolling Islam and Koran., while dissing Bible. Islam is incompatible with either US Constitution or with the Univevesal Declaration of Human Rights and MUST REFORM and not be white washed by CAIR, OIC with the help of Obama who let Muslim Brotherhood into the Whtie house. This Muslim Brotherhood of Obama harbors genocidal supremacist ideology of Islam. He will be defeated in a landslide in November before he can inflict more damage to US and Western civlization.

      • Jeff

What “general Marxist beliefs”? Most of the wingnuts on this blog would cite “Obamacare” as exhibit A in support of their “Marxist” arguments. But you seem to be advocating, as do I, a single payer system. Isn’t that more socialistic than anything Obama has proposed? “Marxist” has become a catch-all term of derision, void of all meaning. Like calling someone a jerk.

      • Gea

The “father” of free markets said that there are 3 areas in which govenment needs to be responsible since prophit motive of free markets can not work. Those are defense, education and health care, which define a country, and which help make better citizens and free choices.

Thus having a universal health care (Medicare for ALL, before it was hijacked by drug companies under Bush) like they have in France (which is number one in health outcomes), Israel or Germany is the way to go. The payment is managed by the government, just as millitary is, but it develops markets for providers, without having intermeidaries who make profits on suffering and disease.

Obamacare is NOT socialist by dumb, since it only increases intermediaries and compells citizens to join this expensive fraudulent system where the top dogs of insurance/hospital/phamra companies make super-salqaries on pain and suffering. The providers of care (doctors, nurses, and others with direcct care) need to be directly linked by single payer system, rather then having numerous parasites such out the money from the care, as it si done now, and as Obama care will even increase more, with very little benefits to Americans.

      • Jeff

I agree with virtually everything you say in this post, Gea. Whats the different between the Obama administration trying to buy votes from the poor with food stamps and Romney trying to buy votes from the rich with tax cuts?

      • http://yahoo Charles Arthur Williams

        Exactly

      • OOOOPPert EEEEpert

That’s a lot of BS….the Romney tax cuts are for all…..Tax cuts have been proven over & over to help in economic times such as this…

You are wrong, because Romney’s idea is simply policy , you may not agree with it & its possible effects…., but Obozo’s is PURELY POLITICAL as all his actions have been pretty much since he got into office!

      • http://yahoo Charles Arthur Williams

We’ve had larger growth at the times taxes rose than cut. Go to the U.S.Bureau of labor- stats.

      • Jim

there are a lot more poor Americans than rich Americans

      • FreedomFighter

“Whats the different between the Obama administration trying to buy votes from the poor with food stamps and Romney trying to buy votes from the rich with tax cuts?”

Food stamps are from tax moneys — basically stealing money from everyone to give to a few. Reduces available cash in the private sector creates less spending and capitol investment.

Tax cuts — reduce government theft of capitol, thus keeping money in the private sector for business purposes and spending that increases jobs

The education system in Austrailia must have been taken over by commies just like here.

        Gilly has a point.
Whether they tax us now or tax us later (to pay back the borrowed money), it will still be a burden on the economy. It is just another form of vote buying and immoral too because it shifts the burden to future taxpayers who didn’t even get to vote in the matter. Of course those future taxpayers will be so heavily brainwashed that they will probably think they can’t tie their shoes without Government help, so they might not even realize that they’re being taken advantage of.

      • DaveH

FreedomFighter says — “Tax cuts — reduce government theft of capitol, thus keeping money in the private sector for business purposes and spending that increases job”.
That’s true, FF, in the short run, but somebody has to pay that money back later, and then the same damage will be done. They have only put the damage off to the future.
There is no substitute for Cutting Spending.

      • Chester

OOOOPPert EEEEpert, if the Romney tax cuts are for all, as you say, why is it that everyone who studies what he wants to do say it will COST the middle class worker twice as much in NEW taxes as it will save the rich man in cuts? I remember Reaganomics 101, and the ONLY people he helped were his friends in the upper levels. Trickle down does NOT work for those at the bottom, as most of what is supposed to trickle down winds up in some offshore account, doing absolutely NO good to our economy.

      • Chester

FF, how do you figure food stamps are taking money from the many to give to the few? Aren’t you one of those who insists the MANY pay NO taxes? If they pay NO taxes, how can anything that comes from the government be taken FROM them? To be really honest about it, why don’t you admit that the working poor pay more taxes per dollar of income than the people making millions of dollars a year? Granted, it may not be INCOME tax, but they pay taxes every day they live/

      • stopspending

Obama is trying to buy votes not only from food stamp reciepients, welfare, disability, extended unemployment, etc but also from hispanics – executive order for dream act, women – FREE birth control , young – pay off college loans and more college grants, unions – unionization of all home health workers and health care workers in Obamacare, and any other special interest he can bribe with our tax dollars.
Romney plans to keep tax rates the same for all groups but also rewrite some of the tax code to elliminate some of the special interest tax exemptions. That will affect the rich that these exemptions were set up to benefit years ago and the middle class can not take advantage of. The left never seems to talk about the changes to the tax code that Romney plans to make.

      • Old Henry

Well Gilly, according to the IRS at least 47% pay NO federal income taxes. Soooo, just who is not paying their “fair share”?

Are you one of the 47 percenters?

      • Old Henry

        Jim:

Especially after 3.5 years of the communist foreign nationbal criminal Kenyan!

        Vote Gary Johnson in November!

      • Bill

The first is taking from someone and then promising others that they will receive the “stolen” goods i.e. food. the second is letting people have what they have earned. You all see the difference? The only reason to tax more on the millionaires or any other people is so that the government can have more money to buy votes from those that benefit from the taxation. who will then vote every time for even more “benefits” that the government has to steal from even more people. You all see the difference? As soon as this is no longer available then everyone will be forced to work in order for those people to continue with the game of receiving stolen property. i.e. money. You all see the difference?

      • Jeff

So the guy who rides a bicycle and the guy who owns a fleet of limos should pay the same for the cost of building the road? Sound socialistic to you? But it’s OK if only the rich guy owns the road.

The reason the wealthy pay more in tax than do the poor is they have the money to pay and they are the stakeholders (owners) in society. If we go to war to make the world safe for financial empires, who should bear the cost of the war – the workers?

      • Daveh234

OOOOPPert EEEEpert tax cuts and trickle down have never ever worked. Period.
Reagan was wrong and he is not the “best” president we ever had. It’s just a figment of your belief pattern.
        Sorry, not close.

IT’S A FORE GONE CONCLUSION THAT HIS WILL HAPPEN . EVERYONE IN D.C. KNOWS THIS

  • DaveH

The simple reason? They want us to be dependent on them so they can keep their cushy high-paid jobs forever. My son one day was amazed that I would think Leaders would purposely let their country’s economy tank. He said “Why would they do that? Wouldn’t it hurt them too if the economy sucked?”. It would, but they would still live in much higher luxury than the rest of the citizens.
    Witness Cuba, or North Korea.
In fact I read a story recently about the Venezuelan Leaders who were wearing Gucci shoes and such, while at the same time preaching to the citizens to be more frugal.
    http://www.ailiyisa.com/chavez-supporters-if-you-cry-socialism-why-do-your-leaders-wear-gucci-vuitton-while-your-people-struggle.html

    • FreedomFighter

“The simple reason? They want us to be dependent on them so they can keep their cushy high-paid jobs forever.”

I believe it is more sinister and complicated. These elites are eugenics monsters, once on the dole the poor will be subjected to government control:

      Where they live
      What they eat
When and if they have children
Where and what job they will have
Where and what medical treatment if any

Once complete control has been established, the work camps will begin, filled with those poor dependent soles that take government handouts, so that they may be a productive part of the new regime. In a socialist communist regime you are either an asset to the state or an enemy.

      Enemies are elimintated.

History shows this to be true of all communist regimes, consolidate power using the poor, then purge enemies and put all to work for the state.

nobody is arguing the fact that people become disabled….. But it’s in the best interest of the disabled people to make sure that only disabled people are recieving benefits….. Or 4 years from now…. What are you going to do then? The non disabled benefit recievers will just go back to work…. Leaving the disabled with nothin and no way to get benefits. I run into these non disabled benefit recievers daily…. Where would you guess they congregate….. That’s right! The bar!

And recieving disability because your obese! That’s just straight up BS! Considering the number of obese people in America…..

      • Wes McKay

I agree with both of you completely …

They say this is the most important election of our life time …

That could not be truer …

If obama manages to ( fraudulently ) be re-elected he will continue his agenda to ..
        ‘ change America ‘

What he has accomplished so far is just a drop in the bucket.

he MUST be stopped in November …

How WE do this is for everyone to get out and ‘ VOTE ‘

progressive- socialist – communist – liberals … account for only appr. 28 – 34 % of the voting public … obama got elected by these scum-bags because they got to the polls by hook or crook … plus multiply votes, illegals, and the dead.

Voter ID is part of the answer … the othe part is … WE MUST GET OUT and VOTE !

IF WE DON’T ………. WE WILL DESERVE WHAT WE GET …………..

        BUT DO OUR CHILDREN ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

DO YOUR DUTY PEOPLE and VOTE THIS MANIAC OUT OF OFFICE ALONG WITH THE CORRUPT CONGRESS.

Romney / Ryan … will trurn this around or they will go too ! ! ! ! !

FF. thanks for clearing up that the Democrat Party is not a “socialist communist regime” The ONLY people they have put in work camps or eliminated are in the MINDS of people like you and the scare tatics of the those who live their lives in a state of paranoia!
A plan to feed children and the poor to keep them from dying in the streets of becoming health problems is wrong because it has flaws??? WE don’t call off the military aid because everyone can’t hit the bullseye!

      • Gea

As history teaches us neither Marxism or Islamism work and had ended up in disasters of Soviet Union, which failed because it could not feed its people, and Islamism is even worse, and had turned Muslim-majority countries into basket cases that triggered Arab spring, which is ending even in worse disasters. Now the immigrants form hunger from Muslim countries had overpopulated Europe and are coiming to Australia and Northe America demanding their medieval evil sharia incompatible with US Constitution of with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Barak Hussein Obama is both Marxist and ISlamists. He cannnot help it since he grew up in Indonesia with his Marxist Muslim stepfather and his father was a Marxist Muslim from Kanya. Why did his young white mom fall for those humanizer, Marxist Muslims is a mistery which he should explain in a new booki Dreams of My Mother, which he can write after a landslife election in Nobember changes his residence. He can do it as a guest of Saudi king whom he worships, or he can go to his half-brothers in Kenya or join his Muslim Brothers in Egypt or Pakistan.

When Barry was shipped to live with his white graondparents in Hawaii, his grandpa hirded a tutor for him who toought him from the age of 10-18. It just happens that this tutor was Frank Marshall Davis , also a member of Hawaiian Communist Party.

The communism attracted many young people because of its promisse of social justice which then turned into ruthless grabl for power and murdering their oponents in countries where it took hold. Same with Islamism, where Amin al Husseini, the Mufto of Jerusalem, a Nazi war criminal who spent WWII egging Hitler on to murder all the Jews, was a master of deception (improved under Goebbels), murdering his oponents and stealing from his people, as his disciples in the Arab world had been doing since the end of WWII.

Rarak Hussein Obama certainkly does not represent American values of freedom and respect for human rights, which he fakes, while extolling Koran and Islam and dissing Bible. He may have been born in USA, but he certainly does not represent American values. His cavorting with the Islamists of Muslm Brotherhood and Taliban, is not onlly making US soldeirs and US unsafe but the entire Western civlization, is endangered. Obama’s political correctness and Islam have no place in any civilized society which respects freedom and human righgts.

Speaking of Freedom, Thomas DiLorenzo has a new book out which exposes many of the ways Government takes advantage of the people and aides its Crony Capitalists:
      http://mises.org/daily/6162/DiLorenzo-Devastates-the-State

From the book — “RCA was prohibited by antitrust regulators from charging royalties to American licensees, so the company licensed its products to Japanese companies instead. This led to the overwhelming dominance of the Japanese electronics industry in the American market place.”

Also from the book — from a Hermann Goering interview — “Your America is doing many things in the economic field which we found out caused us so much trouble. You are trying to control peoples’ wages and prices – peoples’ work. If you do that you must control peoples’ lives. And no country can do that part way. I tried and it failed. Nor can any country do it all the way either. I tried that too and it failed. You are no better planners than we. I should think your economists would read what happened here”.
Hermann was a military leader and a leading member of the Nazi Party who was later convicted of war crimes and sentenced to be executed but committed suicide by cyanide before the execution.
The Nazis started by nationalizing a few industries, then as that proved to be a failure did more of the same (like Government usually does) until eventually the vast majority of businesses were nationalized. So here’s a man speaking from experience.

“[G]overnment theft of private money and redistribution by a government elite is communism not democracy. … Communism has already been tried for over 70 years, and it doesn’t work because people work to support themselves, not their neighbors. When the rewards are confiscated and redistributed to others, people produce less or stop producing altogether. The quantity of “goods in common” declines until the system finally collapses and everybody is hungry, not just “the poor.” Then totalitarianism steps in to force people to produce (ask the Russians, the Poles, the Estonians).”

I thought I would share this link from Hillsdale College. They’re offering, for free, a 10 week online course titled:

“The Progressive Rejection of the Founding and the Rise of Bureaucratic Despotism”

The course covers the historical roots and principles of progressivism; its rejection of America’s founding principles and Constitution; its political successes in the New Deal, the Great Society, and in recent years; the ongoing political debate between progressives and conservatives; and the chance of a constitutional revival.

        A) The Hillsdale course you describe represents a scholarly historic analysis of the roots of progressivism
        B) The Hillsdale course you describe is just right wing Republican political spin with a patina of input from some Ph.D. who’s actually a political hack
        C) You’d learn more balanced history from the archives of the Communist Party.
        D) You’ll never read the course material because you accidentally burned the book with all the decadent Jewish books you meant to burn.
