What A Gig!
August 22, 2012 by Bob Livingston
Last week, I told you that the Department of Homeland Security was taking bids for ammonium nitrate and A-5 Flake RDX for “testing” purposes. Now we know who submitted the winning bid.
It was American Homeland Security Consulting Group, LLC. The security firm is made up of former agents from DHS; Justice; Treasury; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Agency; Customs; the FBI; Immigration and Customs Enforcement; the Internal Revenue Service; and the Secret Service. It is headed by the former chief law enforcement officer for the Maryland office of the Transportation and Security Administration, Art Gordon.
According to the firm’s website, it specializes in supporting Federal, State and local governments and the private sector “in securing the homeland.” It has a rapid response team trained in firearms and security; and it provides consulting, training and legal services.
It is not a manufacturer of fertilizer or explosives.
This is obviously another case of cronyism. It’s rampant in Washington, where people work for government or get elected to Congress and then leave to make money off their connections.
I guess it’s a nice gig, if you can get it.
