Washington Crucifies Job Creators

Washington Crucifies Job Creators
WWW.LAW.TULANE.EDU
Al Armendariz was appointed as an Environmental Protection Agency official by President Barack Obama in November 2009.

Well, hot diggity dog. At least one mean-spirited, overzealous Washington regulator got what was coming to him this week. Al Armendariz, a regional director of the Environmental Protection Agency, was forced to quit his job when some of his intemperate remarks got publicized. It would be great if the same thing happened to a few thousand of his fellow bureaucrats.

Armendariz was in charge of enforcing EPA regulations in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico. He was appointed to his post in November 2009 by President Barack Obama and quickly demonstrated a zeal for the job. He was infamous for his office’s harsh prosecution — many would say persecution — of any company that fell afoul of EPA regulations.

In a lecture two years ago, Armendariz explained his “philosophy of enforcement” to the audience:

It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They’d go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they’d find the first five guys they saw, and they’d crucify them. And then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years.

That’s a pretty chilling and cold-blooded attitude, wouldn’t you say? Notice that guilt or innocence has nothing to do with Armendariz’s methodology. All he’s concerned about is how quickly and how ruthlessly he can intimidate his subjects.

How would you like to have someone with this philosophy determining the future of the company you work for? Or founded? Or any private enterprise in this country, for that matter? Well, the sad truth is, there are thousands of petty tyrants like Armendariz working for your government — and being paid by your tax dollars — in hundreds of Federal bureaucracies. The only unique thing about Armendariz is that he got caught.

Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) deserves a tip of the hat for shining a spotlight on this particular cockroach. It happened because Inhofe decided to investigate an EPA vendetta against Range Resources, a drilling company the EPA accused of contaminating local water supplies. A lengthy investigation exonerated the firm, but not until Armendariz and his staff had done as much damage as they could to the company. As you probably know, the only energy producers the Administration of President Barack Obama likes are the wind and solar ones that need millions of dollars in Federal subsidies to survive. In the case of Solyndra Inc., $500 million in subsidies couldn’t keep it going.

But if you’re a for-profit producer of coal or oil or natural gas, forget it. You’ve got a big, bright bull’s eye painted on the middle of your back. And it was put there by Obama and his environmentalist buddies.

The Wall Street Journal recently published a lengthy opinion piece by Bob McDonnell, in which the Virginia Governor lamented how the Obama Administration pulled the rug out of from under plans to develop his State’s offshore oil and gas resources. He explained, “In 2010, Virginia was poised to become the first state on the East Coast permitted to produce oil and natural gas offshore.”

But the plans were nixed by Washington “with little explanation and even less regard for the strong bipartisan and public support for the offshore initiative.” Three months later, the Administration added insult to injury when it announced plans to subsidize wind-power development in Virginia’s waters.

And the same thing is happening from the Gulf Coast to Alaska. Profit-making (and tax-paying) private companies that want to develop our oil and gas resources are told “no way, Jose.” One project in Alaska that McDonnell cites could have created 55,000 new jobs annually — not to mention $145 billion in new payroll and $193 billion in additional government revenue. In case after case, it was a government bureaucrat — not the marketplace — that put the kibosh on the project.

And don’t get me started about the Keystone XL pipeline. Thanks to the Administration’s intransigence, thousands of jobs — and billions of barrels of oil — that could have been flowing from Canada to Texas and Oklahoma may now be going to China.

By the way, it’s not just Federal regulators who can promulgate some crazy rules. So can State and local governments, as many homeowners can testify. Just ask Joseph Pomares, who was recently cited for having “standing water” in a birdbath he added to a rental home he owns in Astoria, N.Y. A new regulation to the health code there makes landlords responsible for any infractions found on their property that could lead to the “breeding or harborage” of mosquitoes. It seems regulators there take their responsibilities to prevent West Nile virus very seriously. The citation he received advised Pomares that he was in violation of Article 151 of the city’s health code and could face a $2,000 fine if the situation was not remedied at once.

No doubt I could fill 100 more pages with similar injustices and outrages across this country. I was going to say that it was no doubt impossible to estimate the cost of complying with all the rules and regulations that have been inflicted on us by a Big Nanny government run amuck.

But if I said that, I’d be wrong. It turns out that the Competitive Enterprise Institute, a pro-free market think tank in Washington, has undertaken precisely such a study. And CEI says the total cost to our economy of government regulation amounts to a staggering $1.75 trillion a year.

To help put that price tag in perspective, CEI reports “Regulatory costs exceed all 2008 corporate pretax profits of $1.463 trillion.” How many jobs has it cost us? It’s impossible to know for certain, but the number is likely in the millions.

Speaking of unemployment, permit me to repeat something I pointed out in a Chip Shots item last week. Administration officials have pointed with pride to the latest unemployment figure, which allegedly has fallen to 8.2 percent. This is based on claims that 120,000 new jobs were added to the economy in March.

But buried deep in the report is the news that far more Americans who got new jobs dropped out of the labor force that month. The “no longer looking for work” numbers swelled by 164,000.

Just think about it: If every unemployed person stopped looking for work, our unemployment rate would be 0. That’s the sort of “recovery” this administration is giving us.

In the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson said that King George had “erected a Multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.”

Frankly, compared to what this Administration has done to us, our rebellious forefathers had it easy. Don’t you agree?

Until next time, keep some powder dry.

I’m all for getting rid of these Greenie EPA dictators however I suspect that your financial regulators will prefer unemployment to remain higher rather than lower as wages can remain lower, when many people do not have jobs otherwise it will create wages push and generally higher inflation.

Also I’m not so convinced that the EPA is working alone as I suspect that it might be some of the larger oil corporations who would rather have less oil being extracted in the USA so as to keep their prices higher and are supporting the Democrats behind the scenes using the EPA as an anti competative tool. There is usually more going on in big business than sometimes would appear to be the case.

    • George E

That might be the case, but in any case it’s all the more reason to cut the EPA’s power over our businesses and lives.

  • RichE

He’ll do well at the IRS.

  • Thinking About

USA is not a goverment for the use of the KOCH industries. Let them fund their own greed but on the backs of citizens of the US. Why should there be a pipeline to transport crude oil to their refineries in Texas while refineries on the border of Canada can be used without building the pipeline to their industries and then shipping the refined products to the world. It will not help our fuel problem, it will be gas to other nations. We will never be independent of middle east oil in this method. Instead of being called Keystone XL pipe line, let the Koch brothers stand up and say it is for our greed.

    • DaveH

      TA,
As usual, you have no idea what you’re talking about. If it was economical to build refineries near the border, and Government wasn’t actively interfering in the Marketplace, then Private Investors would do that. Free Markets (which we haven’t had for about 100 years) are the most efficient solvers of our economic problems.
And please, TA, tell me anything the Koch brothers have done to us Forcefully or Fraudulently?
For those who want to learn a little about the pipeline project from the people who are building it:
      http://www.transcanada.com/keystone.html

      • eddie47d

Actually he does know what he is talking about since the Keystone oil will be going to foreign markets out of Port Arthur,Texas. The Price of gasoline will not be affected by the Keystone project either. Since the Koch Brothers and Anadarko Corp work together in getting this pipeline built there is a connection between them. They both also give generously to political campaigns to influence their businesses.

      • George E

        Eddie,

So what? Are either of these companies doing anything illegal, or even unethical or immoral? No. Not so far as I can tell. And, what does it matter what these companies do with the oil or refined products? It’s their business. Let’s stay out of it.

      • Thinking About

By your own admission of asking what has the Koch brothers done by fraud or force tells me I do understand what is going on. The “buy” decisions from congressional members, etc with big donations if they can get their agendas into action. They apparently have fooled you Daveh so how do you fall for their agenda?

      • DaveH

By your refusal to answer my questions, TA, it is obvious that you are just another of the many Liberal Slanderers on this board, who when pressed can offer no evidence for their accusations.

      • eddie47d

Well George if it doesn’t matter then why do those leaning on the right use it as an excuse that gas prices will go down if it is built?

      • George E

        Eddie,

All I’m saying is we shouldn’t interfere in business deals like this one. They should make money or lose money on their own without our help. If they do this right, they’ll deliver better products to the market cheaper than competitors, so they’ll make money and consumers will be able to buy a product with a lower cost basis. That will help to lower prices if supply is adequate in relation to demand. In any case, can you make a case that building this pipeline will actually “raise” the price of fuel? I don’t think so. I think the best you can do is claim it won’t make any difference in the price to the consumer. Aside from supporting lower prices, this project also creates jobs and all the good things that go with that, including higher tax revenues. Face it. There are many more good reasons to approve this project than potentially bad ones when you really look at the facts.

    • George E

Why can’t we just let private companies and their customers decide for themselves? Why does the federal government have to get involved in a decision like this? The market will work out the best, most efficient way of utilizing these natural resources.

      • http://jheasler12175.wordpress.com jheasler12175

The pipeline is being financed with private money. You are talking as though you are being asked to pay for it. It never ceases to amaze me how people can’t stand it when others prosper. The pipeline will not be built on your dime.

      • George E

        jheasler,

I think you mis-read my comments. I don’t want federal government interference in this project.

      • http://jheasler12175.wordpress.com jheasler12175

Sorry, I was actually responding to the same comment you did.

      • George E

        No problem. Thanks.

      • Flashy

JH..i tried to post and the power went out and cut my post off. (dang it…it’s a Republican conspiracy to thwart the Truth ! I know it !)

Keystone is slated to travel over the Ogalalla Aquifer. nothing that important if you discount the aquifer covers eight states, is shallow (water tables avg 300 feet below surface) and supplies 30% of the nation’s irrigation waters.

Yeas…keystone may not cost a dime to us to build…neither did the BP oil platform.

So who will pay for the clean up of a major spill (if clean up can be performed?)? And if the loss of any water supply in an aquifer already strained from the demands doesn’t grab ya…how about loss of our breadbasket granary production from irrigation restrictions?

If your answer if the standard pap given by industry that technology will prevent anything disastrous from occurring…that was what BP said. And i suppose a few well placed bombs by any terrorist action isn’t possible eh?

There is the option for having a refinery close to the border, then shipped from there to all points US…not the Gulf Coast where it can be shipped out very easily and the risk born by us.

        Think about that …

      • George E

        Flashy,

A pipeline is nothing like a deep water off shore drilling rig. Pipelines are laid very near the surface. In the unlikely event of a major break in the pipeline the oil would gravitate to the surface since it is lighter than water. You could spill millions of barrels of oil on the surface of the earth and it wouldn’t get mixed into the ground water supply which is hundreds of feet below ground. We have thousands of miles of pipelines crisscrossing over large aquifers in this country and have had for many, many years. There has never been anything like a BP oil spill into these aquifers that made the water from them unusable. It’s good to be cautious, but please be reasonable. The things you’re concerned about just aren’t going to happen. Let’s get on with building this pipeline and get the government out of the way.

      • Flashy

George….having been involved in the past in a clean up of a brown field site, I’d say your premise oil and hydrocarbons will stay on the top ground layers to be ..well…misplaced. And yes, we have many aquifers that have been polluted, look under “Toxic Plumes”.

Now…if you are stating there will be nothing but pure oil in the pipeline, we’ll stay with oil and hydrocarbon plumes into groundwaters. But of course, there will be additives to the product. it’s part and parcel of the process.

      • George E

        Flashy,

I don’t deny that there’s never been ground water polluted by surface oil spills, but it will take some real convincing for me to believe this has been a major issue like the BP oil spill. I’ve lived in Texas and Louisiana most of my life around the oil and gas business, including pipelines, and I’ve never heard of such a situation. I’ve heard of the occasional pipeline blow-out once every few years, but that’s nothing like what you’ve described. I believe the left is over dramatizing this issue to try to keep this pipeline from being approved. Shame on them. This project could give our economy a boost which it really needs, but liberals are more concerned about possible situations that are remote to say the least. Please get real. The EPA and this administration are getting in the way of commerce. Maybe liberals are wealthy enough not to care, but most folks I know need an income to live, preferably an income from a real job not just an unemployment check.

      • DaveH

Yeah Flashman, and if we let you out of the Institution you might get hit by a car. Your BP example is a weak one. If it wasn’t outright sabotage (false flag event), at the least it was an example of the futility of Government regulation. Seems like there just is never enough of that regulation, eh Sparky? And the fact that professionals from other countries were offering to help and were rebuffed by the Administration lends good credence to the former.
        One man’s opinion:
        http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/22727

      • Flashy

DaveH…you supported my contention. If BP was indeed sabotage, or the gov’t regulators were in bed with BP (which would not be surprising given Bush II and the trashing of our safety systems) … then why would keystone be viewed in a light where neither would occur? Why would any reasonable sane person say ‘go ahead and place in danger this valuable aquifer which farms and cities in eight states depend upon”?

There are alternatives available…are you that insane to say they should not be utilized and instead industry preference be given the overall green light despite the national security concerns?

You paste the industry site on the page and say ‘there ya go, there’s the truth”…are you that naive to think they are going to do anything but place the most optimistic light and stretch the truth ?

        Criminey…do everyone a favor and for once…think.

      • DaveH

No, Flashman, it is you who are insane. You won’t catch me using Hyperbole to make my point. You won’t catch me plagiarizing an ignorant Sniper article to make myself look smarter. You won’t catch me lying about the facts. That’s why I always have links to back up any facts that I state. And you won’t catch me, Flashman, assuming different personalities to mess with the readers.
        Now go take your meds.

      • DaveH

Here is Cato’s take on the Aquifer Fear Mongering:
        http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/keystone-xl-liberal-histrionics-answered-conservative-histrionics

The bottom line is that Progressives just want more Power and more of our Money, and they will use whatever Fear Factors they can dream up to scare the people into accepting their Road to Serfdom.

      • George E

        Yep. I believe it.

      • Opal the Gem

Just one more lie from Flushy. While the original route for the pipeline took it close to/over a shallow part of the aquafier planning for a new route was started months ago and it has now been submitted for approval.

    • vietnamvet1971

AH, we have an Occupy wanna be spewing the evil rich greedy people should pay for every thing. The problem is our Big Bloated Stupid Government running Amuck.

  • old hillbilly

One more cockroach forced back intro the woodwork to breed, multiply, and infect an otherwise good nation.

RAID works! We need to elect some sane honest legislators who will literally purge corruption beginning especially with the regulatory agencies and the education systems that harbor and reproduce “progressives”.

    • kategray

Term limits need to be set.

      • DaveH

Term Limits would just be a placebo. There is no substitute for an educated electorate. That’s why Bob is here.

      • DaveH

Sorry, Chip, I didn’t mean to leave you out.

    • DaveH

      As Government Grows, Corruption Flows.
The only way to purge corruption is to dramatically shrink the Government. Get them out of the Marketplace where their interventions are usually designed to give an advantage to their Crony Capitalists. In this day and age of the Internet, there is absolutely no excuse for the Consumers Not to research before they buy a product. Government should be involved only to the extent that they protect us from the Force and Fraud of others.

      • George E

Cut the money – tax revenue and credit, and their power – laws and regulations. We need to keep them on a tight leash. If the government didn’t have an “unlimited supply of our money” to hand-out, nor the power to control our businesses and lives, many lobbists wouldn’t bother going to Washington. Crony capitalism and other forms of government corruption could be kept in check if we did these things.

      • DaveH

Speaking of the Internet, these guys are looking for any excuse to mess with our Internet. They can’t stand the fact that we’re bypassing their Propaganda Medias:
        http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/michael-chertoff-cyberattacks-biggest-risk-facing-america-165803529.html

        Oh, the fear.

  • uvuvuv

it’s not just the feds. here the dems voted down developing a new iron mine, because of the environment. i wrote a letter to the daily communist manifesto here saying that the mesabi range in northern minnesota was opened up long before any old epa was around, and even in the 50s when the mines were still producing good hematite the area was gorgeous, and continues to be. in the northern part of our state we have pristine wilderness covering an estimated 10,000 square miles, and lets say the proposed mine would lay waste to 2 square miles. which it would not, the company explained that the old rapine days of mining were over, but even if they let the bulldozers charge in, what’s 2 square miles? a pinprick on the map. but the local indian tribe on the nearby reservation of course went apoplectic at the chance that there would be actual bread winning jobs opening up, so tearfully they appealed to the legislature about their heritage lands, and the dems voted the mine down. plus there is all kinds of grief for any company that wants to mine that ecological horror story, sand. sand, yes what kids play in and that stuff on beaches where the same activists fighting these mines go for vacations. i mean come on, people don’t excitedly look at travel brochures for swimming pools, do they? of course, the fact that our sand is vital to the petroleum drilling industry is one reason they’re being such obstructionists. gee, we’re progressives and all that, but we mean social justice progress, not economic progress. and then they go anf recall the governor because he isn’t delivering on his promised jobs. but wait, they are moving to impeach obama because he didn’t deliver either.

  • kategray

All the czars the the PRETENDER has picked are ANTI-AMERICIAN. What can you expect from a group of UN-PATROTIC people. Go live in anther country where you can live the kind of life you want with DICTATORSHIP. Gee how about CHINA.

    • http://www.mototcarsfinancial.com Brad

China already has a dictator and these people want to rule so the only place with a dictator opening is the US

  • Howard Roark

I recently saw a quote in which it was said that “Liberals love jobs but they hate employers.” That pretty much an accurate discription.

    • old hillbilly

you fail to mention that which they hate most (next to free people) — PRODUCTIVE WORK!

    • DaveH

They particularly Love other peoples’ money.

  • mike

If it weren’t for epa,fda and other regulators most of the simple minded morons that read and comment on this site would be gravely sick or dead which could be a good thing I vote to end all regulations

    • DaveH

One might wonder how most of us got here, since the EPA didn’t exist until 1970.

      • eddie47d

We had to swim through rivers of pollution and breath in cities of brown clouds. Yes how did we ever get this far in correcting that sickening problem. It certainly wasn’t from a conscionable awakening from Corporations at the time.

      • George E

        Eddie,

Just because the EPA “might” have done some things right over the years shouldn’t give it license to run amuck over anything and everything it touches now. There should be a “reasonable” balance between protecting the natural environment and protecting the business environment as well as protecting individual rights with the rights of society. In my opinion, the EPA has gone too far in the direction of protecting the natural environment at the expense of the business environment and the rights of “society” over the individual.

      • Flashy

DaveH…are you familiar with the Cuyahoga River fire of 1969?

      • TML

        Flashy,

“The 1969 Cuyahoga River fire helped spur an avalanche of water pollution control activities resulting in the Clean Water Act, Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and the creation of the federal Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA).”

Seems to me that the Clean Water Act, Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and the OHIO Environmental Protection Agency is all that was needed. This should further my point eariler, that a Federal Agency isn’t needed, and should be the sole responsibility of the State. The two Acts mentioned above cover federal issues (since the river (encompassed by Ohio) flows into Lake Erie, which is shared by other states, and Canada.

      • independant thinker

I don’t see a problem with having an EPA if, and this is a big if, they ONLY had investagative powers with ABSOLUTELY no enforcement powers. There role should be to investigate situations then turn the evidence over to prosecutors for enforcement.

  • http://jheasler12175.wordpress.com jheasler12175

Unfortunately, Armendariz is just the tip of the iceberg at EPA. The organization is infested with cockroaches just like him whose life mission is to save the planet by forcing a nation of 300 million people to pay $10/gl fuel prices, the resulting concomitant increase in the price of everything, and a reduction in world food supplies as these morons keep demanding that food be used to produce ethonal. They’re delusional and dangerous. It’s time to go back to the days of a House Un-American Activities Committee and start investigating the money flow from the obama administration to ACORN, SEIU, Media Matters, so-called green-energy-friends-of-obama companies, and back to the obama administration and PACS as campaign contributions. His campaign is being financed with taxpayer dollars and is basically the scam of the century putting even Bernie Madoff to shame. These crooks are systematically looting the treasury.

    • DaveH

No, jheasler, their life mission is to NOT to save the planet. That’s what they like us to believe, but if you look under the rock, you will find that it is all about promoting the Crony Capitalists at the expense of their competitors, their consumers, and the Taxpayers.
Progressive Leaders are simply feathering their own nests by parasitizing the citizens.

      • http://jheasler12175.wordpress.com jheasler12175

I agree, but it is a dangerous mix of enviro-nazis and idealogically driven control freaks running the show. Its not boding well for average Americans.

      • DaveH

        Yep.
“How fortunate for Leaders that people do not think” — Hitler

      • George E

Isn’t it also about controlling everything and everybody?

    • eddie47d

Then 12175 that should take you right back to the many Corporations and Speculators who have driven those prices higher and higher. They gamble on Wall Street and set the cost of your tomatoes and your gasoline. Those folks will have gasoline at $10 a gal. but not yet in your misprint.

      • http://jheasler12175.wordpress.com jheasler12175

Please name two speculators that have distorted the market and what laws they may have broken in doing so. Futures buyers speculate and they run the risk of loss as well as gain. To my way of reasoning, the biggest factor in price at the pump is OPEC controlling the cost of crude on the world market. Exacerbating the problem, is obama’s policy of no new drilling permits and no new drilling on federal lands or waterways, killing the coal industry, and in gerneral removing any competition for OPEC. Competition and supply control cost, not the few futures speculators out there.

      • eddie47d

Yes there are only a few of those Hedge Fund Managers (Speculators) out there but they do control a heck of a lot more than you give them “credit” for. Their temple of greed needs to be knocked down a few notches.

      • http://jheasler12175.wordpress.com jheasler12175

Like whom for example? Many corporations and speculators ranks right up there with MSM’s lame segues “some say……that…..”. Non attributable quotes are nothing more than hot air.

      • eddie47d

12175;How about Hedge Fund Manager Dan Gilligan who was quite bold in exposing those speculators and said “they are new breed of investors”. “60-70% of oil contracts are in the future markets and held by speculative entities” (use to be more in farm products or coal, etc). He said “even oil companies” get gouged by these speculators so go figure. I don’t look at oil companies as the enemy but I sure do those who “legally” shaft us by way of Wall Street. Dan also made the point that “speculators make money when the markets go up and even when they go down”. Very similar to the profits made by Hedge fund investors when the housing market crashed. They do the damage but don’t have to take any of the blame. How quaint!

  • Howard Roark

Its all part of Obummers plan to destroy the fossil fuel industries. remember the spech in which he said “you can build a coal fired power plant but you will go bankurupt because the emmission fines you will pay will break you,” then he went on to say that under my plan, by nessesity your electric bills will skyrocket.” you see Obummer has got this insane idea that he can completely replace the fossil fuels with green energy. ever try to fly an aircraft with solar panels.

    • eddie47d

A weak attempt at humor Howard. Aircraft also don’t fly on coal. LOL

      • independent thinker

Theoreticaly you can fly an airplane on coal by converting the coal to jet fuel.

  • Paul McCauley

I can’t believe this attitude and such horribly negative points of view. We live in the greatest country in the world. So many of thes writers seem to have lost sight of that. Yes, our country has problems, it always has but it’s still the greatest country in the world. I’m a proud American and a WWII vet.

Mr. McCauley, Revolution is as American as apple pie. This country was founded on revolution. When they exited the Constitutional Convention and someone asked B. Franklin what type of government do we have, he replied, “A republic – if you can keep it.” Jefferson wrote that a revolution every once in a while was a good thing for the preservation of libery. Indeed, the notion that we are a union of sheep is quite contrary to history.

      • DaveH

Revolution is a very undesirable event, one which the outcome (win or lose) is very much unknown. Without an educated populace, even if we won, the Sociopathic Leaders would likely be replaced with a different set of Sociopathic Leaders.
The only logical tactic is to educate the vast collection of ignorant voters who, through no fault of their own, have been severely Propagandized by the Media and by the Propaganda Schools. The pen is mightier than the sword.

      • George E

Right on. The real “war” is winning the hearts and minds of the American people. The left has been successful in controlling most of our cultural centers, and working to a long time line. This has given them an advantage in controlling the “messages” that citizens receive and changing the values that are a cornerstone of our society.

      • RichE

You mean the socialists are more successful at being social?

      • MAP

DaveH, I’m not advocating that we begin assembling militias, only that we are not a people to accept anything and everything that our overlords dictate. In theory, I agree with your comment. Bur how to achieve it. The entire apparatus of propaganda is operated by the same faction that controls everything else. Your comment proves why you spend so much time here. But at the same time, most of the posters (those zombies led by the evil DNC) don’t become any the more informed. And there is the question of the entrenched powers. How are they to be overcome? I am very dubious and pessimistic about our future. The fact that the population of this country would place, first, the neocon lackey Bush, and, then, the totalitarian, communist Obama in the WH doesn’t give me much room for hope. There are many fine organizations out there trying, desperately, to educate the people, but check how small their membership base is. Meanwhile, things are racing toward a very catastrophic conclusion. Time will tell…

      • DaveH

Actually, MAP, thanks to Bob Livingston and others, I have seen many of the regulars on this site grow intellectually. There are those of course, like Flashman, who have no intent on growing intellectually because they are part of the cancer that is parasitizing our ignorant citizens. Our task is to demonstrate to the readers that the Progressives are doing what’s best for themselves, not what’s best for the people in general.
I must admit that it is bewildering to me that so many people embrace the illogical Progressive agenda even though in actual practice it has failed miserably throughout the world.
One would think that, since the Progressives have neither Logic nor Experience on their side, their Siren song would mostly fall on deaf ears. It just goes to show how truly dumbed-down the citizens have become.

      • RichE

That’s because you don’t understand human nature. That’ll give you a clearer understanding as to what’s going on here.

      • DaveH

Very few people understand human nature like I understand human nature, Rich. But what has that got to do with anything?

      • JON

Sorry, but apple pie originated in Europe. The history of the good old apple pie goes back a very long way. There is a English recipe that dates back to 1381. Although, without of a shadow of a doubt, apples cooked in pies predates this by many 100′s of years. It’s not as American as you thought.

    • George E

      Paul,

We agree with you, but we don’t like what the government is doing to our businesses. Government regulations have gotten way out of control and are killing many jobs. These are the jobs that we need to help fund the programs that many want to “enjoy.”

    • DaveH

Perhaps, Paul. But does that mean we should sit idly by while this Greatest Country’s Leaders pillage us and usurp our Freedom?

    • eddie47d

I’ll agree with Dave on this one since revolutions seldom play out very well in many countries and quite often they are counterproductive. I do agree that people should be educated and prepared in case one does come along for a failed revolution is a hard hurdle to overcome.

    • Nancy in Nebraska

Paul, we all love our country very much but our country is slowly being conquered by the Marxists, socialists, communists (take your pick) that have infiltrated our government. It didn’t just start with this administration. It has been going on for years and both political parties have been infiltrated. The process has been rapidly increasing with this president. We are losing our constitutional rights at a rate never seen before. Do some online research about the patriot act, the ndaa, agenda 21, the un treaties being signed by our presidents and the executive orders that have been passed by our presidents. It is so shocking! At first you won’t believe it but if you continue to search you will find sources that you will trust. I wrote to my senator about agenda 21 and he confirmed that it is real and it was signed by our president. It has not yet been ratified by congress but when you read about it you will be shocked that anything so crazy could even be considered. There is a whole other world of government that you will never hear about on the tv. Please educate yourself and then try to educate others around you. At first people will say you’re a nut but eventually people will have to wake up and see what is going on around them. This is the battle between good and evil.

All businesses and people should withhold paying their taxes to the IRS at once. The the gov’t will go broke and have no power.

    • George E

      Steve E,

      The government is already broke………….

      • Steve E

But if the bondholders find out that people are not paying, they will stop buying them, and the printed money will not be any good.

      • Harlan

Go ahead vote for the mittwit ande well all be poor. I like reading these but i am just reminded of why things arnt working in the usa. I fought in vietnam for you idiots. You all sound like archie bunker

      • George E

        Harlan,

Thank you for your service. Did you fight for this country so our politicians could make it a socialist country?

      • http://www.mototcarsfinancial.com Brad

According to the feds as long as they can keep printing fiat money they will never go broke

      • George E

        Steve,

Yep. That’s what they say……There wouldn’t be any need for the Fed to buy US debt (print money) if our politicians didn’t continually create this debt by spending too much money. And, politician wouldn’t be quite as inclined to spend so much money if they didn’t think it “buys” our vote. (They would still spend too much on crap the government has no business being involved in, but I think it would slow down some if they weren’t trying to buy votes.) So, in the end, the Fed “prints” fiat money because citizens expect too much from the government, and our whore politicians are all too glad to accommodate us with promises of obligations “we” can’t keep to ourselves……………ugh!

      • George E

Sorry. My last response should have been directed to Brad, not Steve.

    • Nancy in Nebraska

The taxes they collect are inconsequential. They can and do print as much money as they want!

      • Steve E

        See comment just above yours.

      • DaveH

You’re grasping at straws, Steve. Nancy is right. The Federal Reserve would just create more money to buy the Government Bonds, and Government would keep on trucking, meanwhile jailing those who refused to pay the taxes.
You need to read this book, Steve, so you can better understand the concept of Money:
        http://mises.org/books/whathasgovernmentdone.pdf

      • DaveH
      • Steve E

It seems to me then that they should not have any taxes since they can just print money. Why not just print money and drop it our of helicopters so everyone will be rich. If you suggest that that will greatly devalue the dollar, then my first comment about not paying taxes would to the job because we could then devalue the dollar for which the gov’t could not pay it’s bills except to keep printing and keep devaluing. Eventually something will have to give, Won’t it?

      • DaveH

        Steve,
Why don’t you just admit you don’t know what you’re talking about, instead of going on and on trying to defend the indefensible?
Of course the Government Gang prefers to tax us, as well as taxing us the hidden way (by money creation and it’s resultant price inflation). They will use as many different methods to relieve us from our money as we let them get away with.
But that wasn’t the issue. The issue was that you think we could get together, quit paying taxes, and solve the problem. I simply illustrated that you were Hoping and Dreaming.

    • http://Google Gary Gerke

How do you stop the private Federal reserve from printing worthless money 24-hours a day. There is a growing estimate that they have exceeded $116 billion dollars in total worthless paper!

      • DaveH

Here is the True Money Supply as calculated by the non-political Austrian economists:
        http://mises.org/content/nofed/chart.aspx?series=TMS

      • RichE

That needs to be plotted against Money Demand for a truer picture.

      • DaveH

That is a non-sequitur, Rich, everybody demands more money.

  • Sirian

This is a very good example as to the motives behind not only Obummer and his cohorts but even more so the radical environmentalists!! And there is always a flurry of deeply committed ones that show up here in grand defense of this area. What they will never realize though is that they are pointing the environmental gun at themselves and have their finger on the very fast regulatory trigger. They’ll end up shooting themselves in the head, not the foot. Once the triggers are pulled, stand back, more and more will joyfully think they have accomplished an act so divine. BS!!! We’re totally over-run with idiots of this sort and what’s worse – we’ve allowed it!!!

    • MAP

      Very sad and true, Sirian.

    • DaveH

The wind-generators in this picture demonstrate the hypocrisy of those who claim to be concerned about the environment. I have to pass by these garish monsters every time I visit my kids in California:
      http://groffoto.com/2008/06/03/wind-palms-a-freight-train/palm-25-2/

Imagine the gnashing of teeth we would have heard from the Environmentalists if the wind-generator concept had been promoted by Conservatives.

      • Sirian

Such a lovely sight to see. Honestly, I’d feel the same if I had to pass by that monstrosity too. We have some back here in Oklahoma but not on the super scale that they have there.
Yes, it’s quite commonplace for the enviro-freaks to raise the pitch of their objections on a regular basis. Bring up anything enviro related and they go totally bonkers if you don’t agree with their fanciful utopia. Have we not seen such rhetoric here before? Yep, sure have!

      • George E

Maybe the left would support oil wells if we put a wind turbine generator on each one to pump the oil out of the ground. That’s a vision………….ha.

      • RichE

        I like it! Green oil!

      • eddie47d

Heck I’ve heard Conservatives complain about having a Cell Tower placed in their neighborhood. (NIMBY) yet they would be the main beneficiary of such towers. You will also find Conservatives who will stick Derrick’s and Natural Gas Wells in their back yards even if their neighbors find them offensive and cause water contamination. Years ago their use to be rumblings about those huge receiver dishes people would place in their yards. Everyone has a complaint and a bone to pick about something. Not sure why you guys are so offended by Windmills but will accept miles of oil derricks which can be even more unsightly. Now I’m not against cell towers (there is one 3 blocks away) yet all structures should be up to the neighborhood whether natural gas rigs or windmills. We have several windmills in Colorado and alternative energy sources are 25% of our energy usage and could be 30% soon. Windmills do kill a few birds but nothing like the ground contamination that is produced by those other sources. It really should be up to what the community will tolerate.

      • George E

        Eddie,

I wouldn’t mind the windmills if they didn’t remind me how the government is wasting our money subsidizing the wind industry while doing everything they can to depress the development of our fossil fuel industries. Heck, I like wind and solar technologies, but I don’t like government interference in the market, and these windmills remind me of that every time I see them. On that point, I’d probably be a little less offended if the government was pushing (or better yet, getting out of the way) of all of our industries, instead of favoring wind and solar.

      • Nancy in Nebraska

I have no problem with alternative sources of energy. But they should be paid for by the people who will profit by them, not by the taxpayers. These latest boondoggles have simply been a way to steal money from the people and give it to those who support the government.

      • eddie47d

Considering that oil companies like most businesses receive tax breaks and some receive subsidies you seem to be the ones with that “moral” dilemma.

      • eddie47d

That brings up the fact that oil companies receive large tax breaks and have gotten government subsidies.

      • DaveH

        Eddie,
I see you’re back to your mindless comments — Broad Generalizations, Sweeping Assumptions, and fabricated facts.
We are talking about the fact that the environmentalists complain about occasional oil spills, unsightly oil rigs, and other such blights, but seem perfectly happy to dot the landscape with garish wind-generators at the taxpayers’ expense. In other words, they are hypocrites.

      • eddie47d

Prove any fabrication Dave or take a hike with your mindless attacks.

      • JeffH

eddie, your whole being is a fabrication! You’ve been proven a liar, a fabricator, a fool and a slanderer so many times it’s pathetic and the effort to do so is no longer needed. You’ve no credibility…20-0 ring a bell?

All anyone that comes here has to do is read your ignorant comments to see you haven’t a clue as to what you say. You can’t even understand 90% of what others say and your comments all to often reflect that. And that’s the bottom line!

      • DaveH

Eddie says — “Heck I’ve heard Conservatives complain about having a Cell Tower placed in their neighborhood. (NIMBY) yet they would be the main beneficiary of such towers”.
        Fabrication.
Eddie says — “You will also find Conservatives who will stick Derrick’s and Natural Gas Wells in their back yards even if their neighbors find them offensive and cause water contamination”.
Fabrication. As a matter of fact, Liberals have proven time and again that they are the ones who care little about other peoples’ desires and needs, and are the first ones to force their way on others, and take others’ money.
Eddie says — “Not sure why you guys are so offended by Windmills but will accept miles of oil derricks which can be even more unsightly”.
Who said we were either, Eddie? Have you heard any Conservatives trying to Force their way on the people who want to have Wind Generators that they pay for out of their own pockets? Yet, the Liberals have no problems forcing their Wind Generators on the rest of us, even to the point of using our unwilling money.
Eddie says — “It really should be up to what the community will tolerate”.
But what Eddie really means is that it should be up to Liberals to force that community to tolerate, and pay for, whatever those Liberals’ hearts desire.

      • Opal the Gem

“You will also find Conservatives who will stick Derrick’s…”

Another fabrication from eddie. How about we call this one a 90% fabrication because although it has been decades since the oil was pumped using ‘Derrick’s’ it is necessary to have one while drilling. As far as having a well in your backyard. You would have to have a he!l of a big backyard to get a rig in to drill the well.

    Close the EPA.

    • Karolyn

Should be “moderate the EPA”. Without the EPA, we’d still have rivers full of pollution and be gagging on the air we breathe.

      • MAP

Another display of the utter failure of the general government. No matter the hype of good intentions, the end result is yet more corruption and incompetence. A bulldog agency running roughshod over the citizens and led by a pseudo-intellectual with dubious intentions. Only a fool would have expected anything else.
And how much is this “service” costing me?

      • Nancy in Nebraska

Karolyn, we already have that. The epa doesn’t care about our air and water. They exist only to control and intimidate.

      • DaveH

        Karolyn,
That is just not true. To ameliorate the pollution condition, we simply need some explicit laws. Victims of Pollution can then take the creators to court.
To put such Power in the hands of Unelected Political Bureaucrats who don’t suffer the scrutiny of the voters is just asking for trouble. If you would take the time to read this book (you can borrow it from the Library), you will find out, Karolyn, that the bulk of regulations are designed to promote favored Crony Capitalists:
        http://www.amazon.com/The-Big-Ripoff-Business-Government/dp/0471789070/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1336141077&sr=8-1

When you don’t educate yourself, Karolyn, you play right into the hands of the very people you seem to dislike.

      • TML

“Should be “moderate the EPA”. Without the EPA, we’d still have rivers full of pollution and be gagging on the air we breathe.”

I think it should be to the States to regulate pollution, and/or dismantle the consolidation power known as the EPA into divisions which are given authority under specific enabling acts of congress… such as OSHA. In comparison, EPA was established by Executive Order under Nixon. Consolidations of power by federal government will always be incompetent and despotic in practice, more than it will be effective. States should handle their own environmental issues, and the federal government should only be involved in regards to interstate environmental issues.

      • kategray

And what of COMMON SENSE. People will do what must be done and BIG GOVERNMENT does not need to step in and not allow people to use the brains that God gave to each and everyone of us.

      • TML

        I concur DaveH

      • MAP

TML, your comment is like a breath of fresh air. Dead on the mark!

      • Flashy

TML…you’re correct in that the EPA was created by Nixon via an EO to consolidate various agencies and streamline the implementation of NEPA, Clean Water and Clean Air Acts. As Congress passed more environmental laws, Congressional legitimacy was given by explicitly stating in legislation certain regulatory powers and duties were the baliwick of the EPA.

As for pollution laws being a “state’s rights issue’….ummmm how would you handle the issue when pollution crosses the state lines into another state? Especially is that second state was more stringent about what the levels of acceptable pollution were?

      • TML

Flashy says, “As for pollution laws being a “state’s rights issue’….ummmm how would you handle the issue when pollution crosses the state lines into another state? Especially is that second state was more stringent about what the levels of acceptable pollution were?”

Based on the fact that the Constitution is a compact BETWEEN states, as opposed to a compact OVER the states… a dispute of such between states (as I mentioned above) is the legitimate role of federal government to mediate (not dictate) interstate relations and disputes to resolve localized matters, which facilitates diplomacy, rather than having blanket regulation that may not reasonably be applied everywhere at all times, which becomes inefficient, ineffective, and as we can see… sometimes even despotic. Property rights come heavily into consideration. I just don’t believe that an all encompassing centralized entity, with unelected officials, is needed to address your concerns.

        Btw… thanks MAP

    • eddie47d

Sorry TML most environmental problems concern more than one state. Such as waterways, air pollution and chemical spills and that is where the EPA come in. Now Dave H say people who occur damages from environmental damages should go to court. How many cities, states or individuals have the money to take on any business in a court of law? The responsibility for environmental damages fall on the company doing the damages not the unsuspecting homeowner or community. It’s up to those businesses to conduct themselves with the safety of the community in mind not for the community to spend limited resources fighting them in court. We don’t have Superfund sites all over this country because businesses were responsible and we shouldn’t have to waste our tax dollars fighting these damages in court.

      • DaveH

We would have plenty of money, Eddie, to take the perps to court, if Big Government wasn’t spending over 40% of our GDP. And if Government wasn’t meddling in the Justice System, forcing a monopoly on the legal profession through licensing and other impediments, lawyers wouldn’t be able to get away with charging their outlandish rates ($250/hr and upwards).

      • Flashy

DaveH…so you take the position a small, business or single individual will have the resources in the cost and expense and the time involved…and take on a Big Corporation or another state?

        Uh huh … sure…

      • eddie47d

Not sure what the government has to do with the outlandish incomes lawyers make since they make those amounts in Private litigation. In other words they would be soaking us no matter whether the government would be involved or not. I do believe Dave and I would agree than if we stopped being the world’s policemen the government could reduce their spending and our GDP does need to be driven downward to sensible levels.

      • JeffH

Falsy, why is it that your progressive education teaches you liberals to start sentence with “So you…” or “what you are saying”?

Just curious because it so normal for your ilk to respond to comments with pure assumtive questions. I know the answer but I’d rather hear it straight from the “horses” mouth.

      • TML

eddie47d says, “Sorry TML most environmental problems concern more than one state. Such as waterways, air pollution and chemical spills and that is where the EPA come in.”

        You are apologizing… why?
I have pointed out that interstate relations concerning pollution is the legitimate role of federal government, however, I do not believe that a single centralized agency, established by Executive Order, with administrators appointed by the president (who is not scientifically qualified to make assessments on the qualification of said administrator, is efficient. Federal laws regarding waterways and air pollution, passed by congress should be sufficient. We don’t need an independent agency writing regulations as law, or ‘delegating’ responsibilities States. Aside from these interstate pollution concerns, domestic pollution should be the sole responsibility of the State.

As for the court system… it would be less about individuals taking corporations to court, and more about the State(s) taking a corporation to court, coupled with urging neighboring states with less strict pollution laws to be more strict. There doesn’t need to be an imperialist federal entity to dictate these issues. They could be handled by divisionary entities, such as OSHA, and certainly be more efficient.

      • DaveH

Flashdunce says — “DaveH…so you take the position a small, business or single individual will have the resources in the cost and expense and the time involved…and take on a Big Corporation or another state?”.
Talk about the typical Fallacious Flashman comment. First of all you’re assuming, Flashman, that the pollution would somehow just affect one individual, or small business — pretty far-fetched. And Secondly, those same individuals and small businesses suffer currently under onerous Government mandates, such as those from the EPA. What recourse do they have in that? And if the Government wasn’t consuming a huge portion of our money with large bureaucratic agencies, they would have plenty of resources to litigate against the occasional law-breaking polluter. Also, Flashdunce, you forget about Tort Lawyers who are more than happy to take on large organizations on a contingency basis.

      • DaveH

        Eddie,
the answer to your question is Licensing and other ways that Government protects the existing Lawyers from competition. What business is it to them if I chose to have a lay person argue for me? Like most other Government meddling in the Marketplace, it is meant mainly to protect those who contribute to get them re-elected at the expense of the rest of us.

As it is no surprise to anyone who reads my posts,I am a citizen of the Socialiste Democratique Republik of Caliph-on-ya.Last sunday at my church I ran into my tree trimmer, and the guy tells me that he can no longer afford to run his business because of environ(mental) regulations.Apparently he is but one of many parishoners who’s businesses have run afoul of the federal, state, and local ordinances designed to”protect”folks from themselves.
I’ll say this again for all you progressives out there in Tardsville….
When your laws usurp an individuals rights to make a living at what he does, you are destroying the environment, not protecting it.When you use what powers you may think you wield for hurting the small businessman, you are driving a nail in your own coffin.
Nobody but the blind and indigent will see this as saving the environment.
The problem is one of parameters, the condition is one of arrogance.
As a progressive,it would seem that you clearly do not understand the parameters of the environment.
If you are putting legitimate businessfolk out of legitimate business, how can you be helping the environment?
How small is the box your sight comes forth from?
Some citiot somewhere decides the fate of hard working entrepeneurs, while the maid polishes the law degree in the cubicle/office they work from, and the world is somehow made a better place?
Let me make this perfectly clear.
WE ARE TIRED OF YOUR RULES AND REGULATIONS STRANGLING OUR WAY OF LIFE!Personally I dont care if you consider yourself a crusader for the Delta Smelt.
Where I come from,”They who Smelta it Delta it.”And it sure smells rotten where you been lately.
Look, when your regulation kills business, then how can your perfunctory regulation hope to survive?
Do you think you can just roll money off the presses perpetually?
Can you squeeze blood from a turnip?
You dont even see that you are destroying your own ability to function.
You cant get monies from folks who arent making any.
How does that protect your environment?
    You people are insane.
You are killing yourself to live.
You think that living longer is the ticket to success, but then you want to destroy the quality of life, and live a mundane existence, hoping it will engender some type of false hope of euphoria.
What utter fallacial fools you have become?
How can you protect an environment that destroys itself from within?
When my tree trimmer goes out of business, you have hurt his environment,my environment, everyone who gets their trees trimmed by him’s environment.
I would normally stop here but it is clear that you do not understand the scope of the environment,so I will continue. His family;s environment is hurt, his neighbors environment is hurt, his churches environment is hurt, his local and extended communities environment is hurt, his states environment is hurt, his nations environment is hurt, his worlds environment is hurt.
You as the lawmaker have hurt everyone to protect the regulations you have made into law.
I dont know the particulars of whatever, persons, places, things, you perceive yourself as protecting, but you are way out of line with reality.
    McFly?
    Cheers!

    • eddie47d

Kindly tell us CC why the tree trimmer would be going out of business by running afoul of environmental regulations. Please tell the whole story(was he illegally dumping his cut down product). Tree trimmers in Colorado can make $ 3-5,000 a tree if cut down and quite a bit just for trimming so it can’t be a money problem. Safety is a big issue for them but that wouldn’t fall under the environment. Trees are good for the environment and a well maintained tree even better. Most homeowners love a shade tree in their yard so there is no shortage of trees to be trimmed or kept off of power lines. Most environmental regulations are wise and needed for the protection of our health and well being so they do help people. Yet I will listen to your tree trimmers explanation.

My, my! Falsy admiring eddie’s comment…a new low for you Falsy when you’re reduced to a backup role to support eddie, taking into consideration the fact that neither of you have enough combined credibility to carry any weight here.

      • cawmun cents

Well I dont have the information whether regulation that bogs down the ability to conduct daily business is good for the environment or not.But I can tell you that if your regulatory actions consist of gubment sources, then by killing the businessman, arent you shooting yourself in the private parts? After all you cant get taxwes to run your giant gubment from making money that grows on trees, right? You need the person to generate an income so you can steal from them to run your huge-ass gubment juggernaut, dont you?
If your income generators arent generating, then where are your regulators going to make the money at?
        Answer:(its a daily double too!)
What is printing fiat currency for 2000 Alex.
Which sorely devalues all the other fiat currency, correct?
Or do you suppose that money grows on trees,so that when you put my tree trimming buddy out of business, you wind up with more money?
So there you go eddie47d,you can slice, dice, and frappe it any way you please, but when you regulate the man out of business, your money trees will overflow into your economy.
Then when you go to the Company Store TM,to pick up a loaf of bread, you can push your wheelbarrow all the way there, because the cash you need to purchase the bread with, will be too much for your Chevy Volt TM,to carry.
        Thanks for shopping…..

Funny how people will sit back and allow corporations to destroy their land and water and air, just because they’re persuaded that they’ll get some money out of it. The Keystone XL pipeline oil is going to China anyway, that’s why it’s aimed for the Gulf. So what if the Midwest is poisoned, as long as a few thousand people have jobs for a year or two. So what if we can’t breathe the air or drink the water or go swimming or ever eat shrimp and oysters again. Hey, we need the oil, the coal, the money, the money, the money…..

      • JeffH

        carrobin

      • JeffH

carrobin, you make no sense. If you really think the bulk of the TransCanada/Keystone XL oil is going to go to China via the Texas Gulfcould you explain the economic advantage of moving it all of the extra miles to get the oil to China for me?
        ________________________________________________

Here are some rough mileage calculations to consider

1a – The approx distance Winnipeg to the Canada west coast is approx. 1650 miles +-

1b – The approx. miles from Canada west coast to Shanghai China is approx. 4600 nautical miles +-.

2a The distance from Winnipeg to Houston is approx. 1400 miles +-

2b – The distance from Houston Texas to Shanghai China is approx. 6600 nautical miles +-

        1a + 1b – 1650 + 4600 = 6250 miles Winnipeg to Shanghai
        2a + 2b – 1400 + 6600 = 8200 miles Winnipeg to Shanghai

I’ll let you figure it out from here but I’ll remind you that if the oil is destined for China anyway, why would they opt to transport it an extra 2000 miles to Texas?

      • DaveH

And these are the people, Jeff, who think they know best how to run our lives.

      • eddie47d

The same reason China is buying oil from Venezuela,Cuba and Brazil. So the distance isn’t a valid excuse Jeff yet you try hard to make it so.

      • George E

        Eddie,

Does it make sense to you that they would send the oil to Texas if they are going to ship it to China anyway? What justification do you think there might be for doing that? It’d sure be a lot less trouble for them to build the pipeline to the Canadian west coast, wouldn’t it?

      • JeffH

DaveH, LMAO! It’s that same kind of thinking that goes into the decision making in Kommiefornia.

I’m sure you’re aware of the “Bullit Train” debacle in California. The first proposed section is to be built between Madera -Bakersfield. Mind you, AMTRAK is a financial loser and Bakersfield to LA requires a bus ride because there is no AMTRAK line from Bakersfield to LA, other than by bus. Now you’d think that establishing a somewhat profitable rail line between Bakersfield and LA would be the logical choice for starters…not so. Now, if AMTRAK is a loser, why would one believe that a high speed rail would be a winner, especially between Madera and Bakersfield(think train to nowhere).
That, and I know you know it, is the logic of the liberal mind.

      • eddie47d

Blame the Liberals Blame the Liberals! Squawk Squawk! You can honestly say that this will be a Liberal operated train and Conservatives aren’t involved in building the line. Maybe there is some slick Conservative who will get the train built and buy out the bus company in Bakersfield and make a ton of money transporting those passengers to LA. Get back to me when you come up with the real skinny.

      • independent thinker

As I understand it Canada is already planning or building a pipiline to their west coast to ship part of the oil directly to China. If that is the case it would make absolutely no sense to pipe it to Texas then ship it to China.

    • GALT

For cawmun, et al……you started to make a point……..YOU FAILED.

WHY? You didn’t provide any useful information……..no details, no facts……you are so comfortable here on this site…….as a choir member…….that you are operating on the same standards as the “headliner’s” that suck you in each an every day, doing the same thing to YOU. You made a statement…….citing cause and effect……….and then produce a ream of useless rhetoric………..which demonstrates one thing………you are a victim and your choice is to remain one, because your solution……is to COMPLAIN!!!!!!

So point ONE!!!!!! Do not confuse yourself and your interests with either Mr. Livingston’s
or the people that contribute to this site as “headliner’s……..each of them has an “agenda”, and they are promoting it………for profit……..you are a source of that profit,
( potentially ) and regardless of what they claim to “believe”……they are essentially getting
PAID to be here………..YOU ARE NOT!!!!! ( this becomes even more ABSURD when you realize that the primary message is one of impending DOOM and hopelessness, and which only a fool would wish for or advocate as a desirable out come, and even more
stupid when you consider the totally opposite message being delivered which is: you can profit from this ( impending doom ) if only you would do: ( insert “solution” here and add
$$$$$$$$ amount, fiat money gladly accepted )

POINT TWO; for cawmun, specifically……….this was YOUR “tree trimmer”……and there for
your problem………( which is pretty local and for which you already share “common cause”
within your church……and community ) so whatever the facts are: you need to find out,
      and then ACT on it!!!!!!!!

The effort here is a simple phone call to your tree trimmer to penetrate the mystery of
those journalistic questions, which are no longer the standard of so called journalist’s.

Do not assume that you know where this will lead……….follow the trail…..which will take
a little effort……..but since you all seem to like those little “patriotic” quotes from those
thrilling days of yester year ( which none of you really understand or would want to return to )…….. ” The price of liberty ( freedom ) is ETERNAL VIGILANCE.”

“As an additional example of Obama’s illegal and (I believe) highly treasonous behaviors, on 1 May and 2 May Obama issued two additional unconstitutional and illegal Executive Orders. The first E.O., issued 1 May 2012, makes the USA subject to “international regulations” as opposed to looking to and following the US Constitution. Also, with this new E.O., the US FDA will now be able to be bypassed by International committees—thus, replacing the FDA with any international group which may be chosen. In essence, Obama is quickly eliminating US Sovereignty and selling the USA to the international “community.” ”

        Errrr…FF…a comment on your so-called “E.O. alarm.”

The Order(s) you pasted articles of alarm are so far out in space as to not show on the Galactic map.

It’s just another sign the truth doesn’t matter to the far right. if this administration was involved, it will be twisted to be whined about as ‘evil’. fox McNews misreported the EO, and it went viral in the whacked out Right wing world.

Those EO’s? the truth? it ordered an existing White House committee (created by FDR in 1933) to start a studfy, to INCLUDE the private sector, to reduce unnecessary red tape that causes problems for U.S. companies that want to work overseas. The intent is to standardize industry specs. That includes everything from different standards for warning labels to separate requirements for container sizes.

There is a simple solution to the problems we face today. I know the feeling that nothing has changed in Washington. I cast my first vote in 1960, after graduating from college, for JFK. I vividly remember what the Professional Politicians, of both parties, were promising in 1960.Guess what, they are promising the same things in 2012, but they
never mentions our 16 Trillion Dollar of debt.
I call my solution “Confusing our Enemy”. Our Real Enemy is the Congress. We Simply Vote for the OTHER Guy or Gal. If there is a Democrat in office, vote for the Republican. If there is a Republican in office, vote for the Democrat.
My solution is a sneaky way to get TERM LIMITS by enforcing TERM LIMITS with our votes.
If we all stop loving our Representatives for giving us, Band Uniforms and Post Offices, in exchange for our votes and toss them out of office, we would get a smaller government, balanced budget, fair tax system, a revamp of our criminal system and the best of all, a Term Limits Amendment to OUR CONSTITUTION.
        Also, JOBS.
It is our responsibility, to peacefully change our Government, by REFUSING TO REELECT anyone presently in Congress. They are the one how gave us the 16 Trillion dollar Debt
You and I were not around for the “FIRST SHOT HEARD AROUND THE WORLD”, but we will be around, on November 6 2012, to PULL THE TRIGGER ON CONGRESS and send ALL of them packing.

DUH before you get to excited and have a heart attack, remember the 2010 midterm election? “We the People” elected a republican Majority to keep your president in check. Also ask your majority senate leader harry reid to produce a budget they have not in 3 years. How is that Promised “Hope & Change” going for you. Or is it called “Hype & Blame” now. He promised you the Moon and he is trying to changer our country for the Worse.

      • George E

        Debbie,

You only see what is going on right now. Go back and look at how awful liberals treated Republican Presidents since Richard Nixon. If you do with an open mind, I’m pretty sure you’ll find that the overall discourse has been negative for a long time regardless who is President. I’m also pretty sure you’ll find out that Democratic presidents haven’t been treated any worse than Republican presidents.

Speaking of being “brainwashed,” your comments look like a collage of Democratic Party talking points. You’ve obviously been drinking a lot of Kool-Aid yourself.

Regarding working with the President, Republicans were elected to office to try to take the government in significantly opposite directions than Obama and the Democrats want to take it. One can make a pretty good argument that a majority of American voters decided in 2012 that they weren’t happy with Democrats since the voters elected a majority of Republicans to the House of Representatives. Polls show that President Obama isn’t exactly winning the hearts and minds of a majority of voters to support his ideologies right now either. Again, if you look back at history, I think you’ll find that President Obama has compromised less with members of the other party to get legislation passed than any President in modern American history, probably since FDR. If you wanted more legislative accomplishments under this administration, you should point the finger at Obama and the Democratically controlled houses of Congress. They have been unwilling to work with the Republicans.

So Mr. Wood, how many of these PERSECUTED job creators are in jail?

Please get started on the Keystone Pipeline…..if the goal is energy independence, build refineries….at the source….not pipelines to export the resource? ( which is what the current pipelines do, do they not? )

Recent reports indicate that the so called taxes paid by corporations like Apple, include
those taxes paid by their employee’s, and because of various other strategies, permitted by globalization, which allows much of their income to flow to tax havens, and the rest to
be channeled to those states which are forced to compete for potential jobs in exchange for favoritism………your claims here would seem to be disingenuous?

But the final question is that you seem to be suggesting that “government” is or has been corrupted, which begs the question of what your solution is…..ending the corruption in
government or ending the government which permits those who have corrupted it to continue without ever having to face consequences?

I would ask what you mean by “job creators” or if you can define what you mean by
“productive” enterprise……or if the continued production of hot air and inciting continued
ignorance would qualify……..but that is way beyond any expectation of either your audience here…….or the choir you usually preach to, isn’t it?

      Until next time………..

“The Master said, “If your conduct is determined solely by considerations of profit you will arouse great resentment.”

Re: Keystone Pipeline vs building refineries. The US hasn’t built a new refinery for 30+ years. Why? How about “cost due to EPA regulations?” I know of one that was planned in the Dakotas and given up because of the regulation costs. It would have been a “short pipe” from the Bakken fields and would have created thousands of jobs.
But that wouldn’t fit in the liberal agenda to control the land and its people….

Was that you Chip? Doesn’t look like it………it’s the choir, hot air feedback loop…..the one’s who voluntarily surrendered their constitutional rights……and expect someone else to get them back for them……..you up for that Chip? 26 CFR 31.3402 (p) ; UCC 1-207

As for the “choir”, there are several questions and you missed a few…….as for the regulation argument…….which sounds plausible, until you realize that if true, no refinery in the U.S. should be operating………

So wake up…….you have no argument, nor do you have any solutions, you are simply ignorant, so much so that, you don’t even know which questions to ask…….not that it would occur to you that you really needed to ask questions…….

        Sorry your time has expired……..
