Summer is just around the corner. June 20, the first day of summer, is not far away. Many people are getting ready for the sultry season by buying cool clothing and preparing for poolside parties. But those in the Northeast have been forced to trade in their fun-in-the-sun plans for snow shovels.

Newfield, N.Y., received 10 inches of snow by Monday morning, while Ridgebury, Penn., reported 8 inches.

Students who had just weeks ago celebrated spring break found themselves in a winter wonderland.

The snowfall is record-setting. Previously, the highest recorded snowfall in Pittsburgh for this time of year was half an inch. That happened in 1956. On Monday, Pittsburgh is likely to receive five inches. Other areas of Pennsylvania are bracing for as much as one inch every hour.

Cities in the storm’s path are making preparations. It is expected that the storm may disturb air traffic in New York, Philadelphia and Boston. The mass transit system is also expecting problems. “The MTA [Metropolitan Transportation Authority] has put together its emergency plans and preparations. The subway system, Long Island Railroad and Metro North as well as all of our bridges and tunnels are on alert with the concern of wind as well as the amount of water that we’re about to receive,” said Joseph Lhota, executive director of the MTA.

    I realize that it is a little complicated for people who don’t believe in science or evolution and want instead to teach intelligent design but nevertheless, like it or not, due to our human industrial activity we have in the last 100 years accelerated heating up the planet.

    Whether or not this has any direct impact on this week-ends snow storms is irrelevant like a lot of you.

    Believe it or not the planet is in serious trouble due to burning fossil fuels and all some of you can think of and talk about is how to find more and burn more. Now that’s precious!

    So while some of you are stuck in the “first it is ridiculed” and others are at the “then it is violently opposed” stages, we are wasting precious time while we should be going full speed ahead with clean renewable energies that are, let’s face it, so abundant that we could eliminate nuclear and coal immediately.

    Maybe you should be focused on the intelligent design message of Fukushima. One more earthquake in that area and the Japanese might have to evacuate Tokyo, one the largest cities in the world to who knows where! Maybe the massive new and, for some reason, empty cities in China which some are wondering what were these built for! Even without another earthquake we have a major world disaster on our hands and millions will die from it in the coming years.

    1 Million people died in the 25 years following Chernobyl. Most of Europe is contaminated from it and will be for thousands of years. How long do you suppose we need to pay to store and manage the nuclear waste? And who’s paying for that? For how long, hundreds of thousands of years to million of years. Can you put your head around that and it’s cost. Talk about passing costs on to kids!!!

    Meanwhile the science community is making great strides in improving solar efficiency. MIT just announced a discovery that just doubled the efficiency. Batteries are improving, cold fusion might just be around the corner, small quiet vibration free vertical wind turbines for homes are here and at a reasonable price.

    And finally the elephant in the room is efficiency and conservation. What the hell are we waiting for on that one. Like we don’t need jobs right!

    Anyone stuck in the drill baby drill mentality is completely out of their minds!

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to understand what we are doing to the planet. Such denial and fear, I feel sorry for you, you’re stuck with your scarcity and greed beliefs. Don’t be so scared there is life after the carbon and nuclear era and it will much better.

        Eric, If you could please tell this lowly soul who has no scientific concept, why when there was two miles thick of ice during the ice age that was covering up focils of tropical plants, you can’t think that the global climate changes on it’s own.( before petrrlium products and coal)
        When a volcano spews more gasses and particles in the air than industrialized man ever has,how it can be us causing it.
        The only thing I’m “scared of” is elitist,pseudo intelectuals like you coming in a screwing it all up for the rest of us.(for no reason)
        Even though I don’t watch TV news, you say FOX like it’s a bad thing.
        You really don’t need to feel sorry for me.
        Now take some of your own advice and go learn something (on your own) before it’s to late.

        What you are seeing here is nothing more than a re-run of the same old same that EB is always spewing. I’ve seen it before, many times and he’s never going to admit that what info he bases his rhetoric on is nothing more than the usual propaganda. Save yourself a few periods of irritation, ignore him. That is much more effective – trust me, it really works to slide these idiots off to the side and ignore. If they get no response it drives them batty as hell. . . :)

    That is why the elite changed their story from “Global Warming” to “Global Climate Change”.

    They tried global cooling in the 1970′s then when reality caught up with them they changed their tune to global warming. When reality caught up with them they lied. (climate gate). When they got caught lying they changed their tune to “global climate change”

    So what we should ask any AGW person is very simply. You were lying to us then. Are you lying to us now?
