Nothing Doing

Our do-nothing Senate. One of Barack Obama’s most popular campaign themes this year will be to denounce a “do-nothing” Congress. But in fact, the Republican-controlled House has passed plenty of important legislation, including tax cuts, jobs bills and a budget. It’s the Democratic-controlled Senate that’s been sitting on its hands. A report from the Secretary of the Senate said last year’s group is among the least productive in 20 years, with fewer bills passed, fewer roll-call votes taken and fewer amendments introduced. I guess we should be glad we’re not getting all of the government we’re paying for.

Now that’s a funny line. James Taranto, who writes the “Best of the Web” column for The Wall Street Journal, cracked me up when he wrote that someone on Obama’s staff should remind the president that “the symbol of America is not the bald ego.” That’s a good one, James.

Tax refunds used for bankruptcy filings. A National Bureau of Economic Research study shows that more than 200,000 taxpayers expecting a refund from the Internal Revenue Service will use the money to file for bankruptcy. Filing costs and legal fees average $1,477, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. Last year, the average tax refund was $2,913, according to NBER. It’s good to know some folks will have a little money left over.

    Chip Wood ought to be what you do for a living because you cant write. It never was a do nothing senate it was a DO-NOTHING GOP led house that did nothing but obstruct which couldn’t control its tea party numbskulls that lowered the U.S. Credit rating, I could go on but to do so would be to assume that level heads would prevail, level headed thinking on the GOP side of the aisle is like Sarah Palin getting a Nobel Prize for beehive hairdo’s. non existant and discouraged.

    The Senate Democrats have blocked most of the bills that have come out of the House. Furthermore, they won’t even pass a budget, even though they are legally bound to do so. This proves that they (the Democrats) are now “the party of NO.”

      Hi Greg, I just wish some one in the senate could be the party of “know” instead of “no”.

        Actually, Jim, I’m hoping this will become a good campaign issue for the Republicans, and that it will enable them to take full control of the Senate and the Presidency, as well as the House, so that ObamaCare, among other things, can be repealed once and for all (i.e., if it doesn’t get struck down by the Supreme Court in June), to keep this country from falling over the cliff into socialism.

        The way I see it, the more dumb things the Democrats keep doing, the more chances that conservatives will have of winning in November. Hopefully, the Republicans who run against those Democrats in November, won’t wimp out. That will be the time when the party of “know” will really count.

    If congress wants to be more productive they should be busy repealing legislation.

    the people in the senate need a new speaker .Reid is to old and
    he is Obama’s puppet . these two to geather just don’t have any
    idea about what they are doing . they both got to go we need new
    idea’s with young people in the senate .

      Las Vegas (Nevada) idiots voted Reid back in. Perhaps the only way
      to clear up the senate mess is to boycott Las Vegas and Reno, and let the fools there try to run sin city without clients. Most states have the gambling now, so why go there and support Reid. Atlantic City is nice alternative.

    this is a very typical reason to carry out the statement by ted nygent to cut off the heads of those who refuse to do the job they were elected to do–but come novemenber the voters will do more than that by voting this crappy scum ba%$#@^*& out

    debters prisons ,next….there’s speculation that that’s what the FEMA Camps are for

    Why have we heard so liitle about the HR4646 bill which would put a 1% tax/fee on every transaction made in our banking account beginning in 2013? Is this just rumor or is it really up for consideration?
