Gasoline prices will be a big item in determing the nezxt election if they remain high. However, the Amreican public deserves to know more about this very complex issue.
1. Oil companies do not control the price – it is controlled by host countries that own, refine, and sell the oil. Forty or so years ago oil company holdings in the OPEC producing countries had been nationalized. The foreign gov’ts decided on what these companies could or could nto do.
2. Failure to approve the Keystone pipeline project cuts off 800,000 BOPD of Canadian oil. If this idiocy continues in Washington, the Canadians will have to sell to the Chinese. They’ll get a better price, since we were going to get a discount.
3. Opening up Federal lands onshore and offshore (including Alaska) will give an opportunity for us to increase our domestic production. All of the increases Obama and his cronies try to take credit for were the result of discoveries on private lands.
4. Lastly, but of great importance – the almost immediate action – get rid of the jillion blends that exist from state to stae, but EPA edicts.
5. Get rid of the EPA!

My guess is that gasoline prices are going to remain high for a few more months. The Saudis prefer prices to stabilize in the $80-90 range – this keeps the world from moving to new energy sources. What got them this high:
1. A biggie – Value of the US $ has dipped into the cellar.
2. Iranian crisis in the Middle East
3. Greater and greater demand by China and India for petroleum fuels
4. Failure to approve the Keystone pipeline cuts off 800,000 BOPD from Canada. I think the Canadians are about to grow tired of waiting for the approval – the Chinese will pay full price, we pay a discounted one.
5. Refusal to open up Federal onshore and offshore lands for oil and gas exploration and development. This includes Federal land in Alaska.
6. We have a jillion blends of gasoline that vary from state to state – going to one blend will immediately lower the price.

If I take items 1 the printing presses could be slowed down. If I take 6 – shut down the EPA. If I take 4 prices could drop some within 2 years. If I take 5 – opening up the lands immediately would not relieve prices for several years – it takes months and even years to get some of the production on stream.

By the way – Obama had absolutely nothing to do with the increase in last year’s oil production. The Bakken oil reservoir in North Dakota/Montan accounted for almost all of the increase – several hundred thousand barrels a day – maybe an increase of about 4%. We produce 5.7 million barrels per day, and are short 8.6 million barrels per day. Every little bit helps, but Obama indicated due to his actions that the increase was fantastically large.

The high price of gasoline is caused by politicians and political contributors…it is used to dupe we the people and distract us from the real problems. I have just returned from Ecuador where premium gasoline is $1.48/ gallon and that’s with full service! And, diesel is $1.03/ gallon. There’s no currency conversion factor…Ecuador is on the US dollar. The reason for this great discrepancy is leadership. The President informed the oil companies who were drilling there and exporting the oil that the oil (and other resources) belonged to the Ecuadoran people. The people would benefit from their resources or the oil companies could leave. They stayed. There is free medical care for citizens, free education thru college, and infrastructure projects we can only dream about. That, my friends is the difference between leadership and political greed. I guess I should also factor in the stupidity and gullability of the American people (and the “not quite” American people) who continue to believe the lines fed to them by the media and their “managers”. Only when we inform ourselves and use our knowledge to select credible leaders will we be able to reverse the madness in Washington.

clinton had an expanding tax base with the dot com stock market profits. people bought at $4 and sold at 60, and rolled over and did it again. but then in march 2000 came the bust, suddenly people were buying at 60 and selling at 4, and these tax losses were carried into gw’s first term. remember, the taxes for 2000 would be payable by april 15, 2001. so you see, gw inherited that situation. then came 911, a real economy booster there. back then, we had profit sharing posted to our 401k’s in the morning, and by the afternoon they were dust in the wind. it seems that some individuals have selectively forgotten this. i admit, there were some dang good years with clinton, that’s why i took hope with obama even though i voted for mccain. boy was i wrong. frank.

There is a direct impact of pollution for not approving the pipeline and not allowing more drilling which will result in greater production. Here is the proof. let’s see what will happen. in the summer of 2008 (election year) it was easy to spend $5 for a gallon of gas in san diego. and there i was, 2000 miles from home. happily though, at 30 mpg. then suddenly later in the year prices collapsed to under $2 a gallon. good news for me, i had just gotten a paper route. which i still have. now it’s 2012, another election year. will gas prices dutifully fall again? i don’t think they will. i think the oil companies drove prices down in 2008 so that the voters would say, oh look, a repub administration and low gas prices. we better vote for mccain. instead everyone voted for the pied piper, who led us rats into a cave. so this year are the oil companies going to help the dems? oh yeah, they just love the present administration, you just watch the prices free fall. if you remember jfk, he did what was called at the time jawboning. the steel companies were going to raise prices and he met with the executives and said, don’t even think about it. they said on what authority. but they held the line anyway. does obama have this kind of clout? do you think big oil (and little also) will listen to him? they won’t even have the opportunity, they are beneath his righteous dignity.

This Ben Crystal is looking for an emtional response. Come out with the facts not the blame game. Capitalism runs oil prices and if you want capitalism your are going to have to put up with it. That is reality and lets face it capitalism can be very greedy. After all the republican party stands toe to toe for the wealthy. So there is plenty of blame. Lets not forget the capitalism runs Washington. So there is no point in blaming partys for political agenda. If one recalls that oil prices almost hit $150 a barrel in 2008 on Pres. Bush’s watch. He did like that being an oil man, however, he was only partly to blame. If you recall he did alot of sabour rattling.There was an event called the 2008 summer olympics in China. China bought up and used oil for energy instead of using coal for energy to clean up the air qualityl and that is what drove up energy prices to that extreme. After all it is supply and demand. When the games were over the market pulled back. America tried to clean up their driving habits and that also helped. However, Amerca has a short term memory ( just like our elections) and soon we are back to old habits. Here are two examples. We love to idle those cars in parking lots outside of stores at gas pumps it so easy just to turn off the ignition. Two, if every America used cloth bags for shopping instead of plastic which is an oil base product that would help. However, we Americans are creatures of habit and very waste full. So there is lots of blame to go around. So before one does the blame game look in you own back yard. America loves capitalism and we go to war for Coca cola after all, the more demand the more profit. The more oil we use the more demand, higher prices, more profit.

The rule of thumb is: if it makes no sense, there is money in it! Going “GREEN” makes no sense, it is ONLY a catchy phrase for taking more money from the people! While I am ok w/conservation and using our resorses wisely, I am against this B.S. doctrine of going green! GOING GREEN, means GOING GOVT CONTROL!!!

The gasoline prices are going up exactly as Obama wanted it to. No surprise. Obama is forcing citizens into “going green.” Doesn’t anybody remember his campaign speeches about him wanting to make the oil prices go up as a way of making “alternative” energy prices more attractive? This is nothing new, except that people, in general, have short memories OR only want to remember what they choose to remember. Why else would anyone in their right minds vote for a candidate who promised that “energy prices will necessarily skyrocket.” That’s exactly what Obama said, and people still voted for him?

No one seems to pick up on the erosion of the US dollar. When you keep printing money with nothing to back it up, the dollar falls, and when that happens, it take more of our devalued dollars to buy the same product. The Saudis know and understand this and charge us accordingly. Go into any supermarket these days and you will see how far your eroded dollar will go. Five bucks a pound for ground beef (80% lean – the cheap stuff). Some folks call this “hidden inflation” and it looks like the US government wants to keep it hidden too – from the majority of people.

Guess it depends on who is in charge..when it was the GOP, it’s all their fault, when it’s the Dems, it someone elses..isn’t it time for these clowns to start taking responsibility?

Claims that the Keystone Pipeline will have no effect on the price of oil are only partialiy true. Any of those who have run a business are aware that if we were fortunate enough to learn of a competitors intent to enter our market area, we immediately began to look for ways to cut our costs and therefore our prices, I do, however believe that most, if not all of this will be offset by the rising demand in the BRIC countries.
What will happen when we finally remove this economy inhibiting administration from office, is the pipeline will be approved. This will almost immediately create thousands of jobs. These immediate jobs will not be directly on the pipeline construction, it will take time for that to get up to speed. However the Refineries involved will begin to increase their capacities, creating short term construction jobs. ( 3 to 5 years). More construction jobs will be realized when the pipeline does go into construction!
This, unlike Obamas fiat stimulus, is real economic stimulus!

we need to look at the big picture…as the economy circles the drain gas consumption decreases …it’s supply and demand. So far the oil /gas companies have supported the price by exporting surplus gas , but as the world economy worsens….and this in spite of yet another refinery closing in N.J. We.re a huricane away from $5 a gallon.

Obama certainly has his failures, but gas prices aren’t one of them. The price is controlled by a cartel and you will pay what they what they want you to pay.

Gas prices are going up and, according to something I read online two or three months ago, it is just what Obama wants. In the article it said Obama wants gas prices to reach $5.00 a gallon so he can use it in is reelection campaign against the Republicans. He plans on blamingt the Republicans for the higher gas prices and will equate those higher prices with the lack of domestic oil drilling which he will claim is being blocked by the Republicans. He will also blame them for other domestic energy resources that are not being explored,even though it is he and the Democrats that are doing the blocking. This, apparently will be part of his reelection strategy. Blame Republicans for his failures and the failures of his party. It’s what we get for electing an immature child instead of a mature adult to the White House.
