A Picture’s Worth A Buck Or Two

April 19, 2012 by

Take a gander at the picture at right.

This is then-Congressman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), Congressman Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and then-House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in July of 2006. The three were joined by Senator Chuck Shumer (D-N.Y.). The lawmakers gave a press conference at Congressional Exxon, a gas station located a short stroll from Capitol Hill. At the time, the price of a gallon of regular gasoline hovered just above $3.

Pelosi, Emanuel, Markey and Schumer spent that hot summer day six years ago railing against the excesses of President George W. Bush and his evil cronies in the oil industry.

Always a woman of the people, Pelosi roared:

The Republicans’ failed energy policy has taken us in the wrong direction, leading to record gas prices that exceed $3 a gallon… Bush… proposes 46 percent less for renewable energy research than the level promised in the Republican energy law, and cuts funding for energy efficiency and conservation programs…

Markey jumped in as well:

The Bush Administration’s energy policies have proven to be a miserable failure… The reality is that the Bush Administration has fully blown it when it comes to gas prices and the economy…

Pelosi and Markey were joined in their indignation by Emanuel and Schumer (although Schumer may simply have dropped by when he saw the cameras). They claimed outrage at the cronyism shown by Bush and his Republican Congressional allies to presumably evil oil companies at the expense of the poor working people of America. They shouted promises of rescue from the clutches of Bush and his Big Oil backers, presuming the voters in that fall’s Congressional elections send the Republican majority packing.

That fall, the “Exxon Four” got their wish. The electorate gave the GOP the bum’s rush nationwide, leaving Bush politically isolated and sending the Big Oil bad guys scurrying for their offshore tax havens. The Democrats rolled onward to even greater triumph in 2008, ushering in an era of peace, love and fiscal comfort for all Americans. The poor, liberated from the jack-booted Republican oppressors and their sinister allies, emerged into the light of prosperity. American industry, its shackles removed by liberal knights in shining armor, roared back to life under the heroic guidance of the Democrats’ union brethren. And the scientific community, finally free to pursue fuel-independent enlightenment, developed spectacular “green” technologies that produced an America far greater for all than it had ever before been. Gas prices plummeted, unemployment disappeared and the jobs lost to a reduction in oil-exploitation returned dozen-fold in the form of solar, wind and renewable energy industry work. America became a happier, smarter and sounder Nation.

All right, none of that actually happened. But it made for some catchy Democratic campaign sound bites.

Take a gander at the picture below.

That’s the Democrats’ favorite Exxon station, as seen within the past year. There’s nary a member of Congress, formerly poor person or “green” job in sight.

When Bush was picked by the SC to ruin I mean run this country a barrel of oil was $20.When he left office it was at $80 a barrel, need I say more.Very easy to prove if you know how to do a little research.Todays increase is the devalued dollar and Wall Street speculation.

Gasoline prices will be a big item in determing the nezxt election if they remain high. However, the Amreican public deserves to know more about this very complex issue.
    1. Oil companies do not control the price – it is controlled by host countries that own, refine, and sell the oil. Forty or so years ago oil company holdings in the OPEC producing countries had been nationalized. The foreign gov’ts decided on what these companies could or could nto do.
    2. Failure to approve the Keystone pipeline project cuts off 800,000 BOPD of Canadian oil. If this idiocy continues in Washington, the Canadians will have to sell to the Chinese. They’ll get a better price, since we were going to get a discount.
    3. Opening up Federal lands onshore and offshore (including Alaska) will give an opportunity for us to increase our domestic production. All of the increases Obama and his cronies try to take credit for were the result of discoveries on private lands.
    4. Lastly, but of great importance – the almost immediate action – get rid of the jillion blends that exist from state to stae, but EPA edicts.
    5. Get rid of the EPA!

We are not a HAVE NATION as far as future domestic oil supplies are concerened. Unfortunately, the media, politicians,m ains and oil

My guess is that gasoline prices are going to remain high for a few more months. The Saudis prefer prices to stabilize in the $80-90 range – this keeps the world from moving to new energy sources. What got them this high:
    1. A biggie – Value of the US $ has dipped into the cellar.
    2. Iranian crisis in the Middle East
    3. Greater and greater demand by China and India for petroleum fuels
    4. Failure to approve the Keystone pipeline cuts off 800,000 BOPD from Canada. I think the Canadians are about to grow tired of waiting for the approval – the Chinese will pay full price, we pay a discounted one.
    5. Refusal to open up Federal onshore and offshore lands for oil and gas exploration and development. This includes Federal land in Alaska.
    6. We have a jillion blends of gasoline that vary from state to state – going to one blend will immediately lower the price.

If I take items 1 the printing presses could be slowed down. If I take 6 – shut down the EPA. If I take 4 prices could drop some within 2 years. If I take 5 – opening up the lands immediately would not relieve prices for several years – it takes months and even years to get some of the production on stream.

By the way – Obama had absolutely nothing to do with the increase in last year’s oil production. The Bakken oil reservoir in North Dakota/Montan accounted for almost all of the increase – several hundred thousand barrels a day – maybe an increase of about 4%. We produce 5.7 million barrels per day, and are short 8.6 million barrels per day. Every little bit helps, but Obama indicated due to his actions that the increase was fantastically large.

The high price of gasoline is caused by politicians and political contributors…it is used to dupe we the people and distract us from the real problems. I have just returned from Ecuador where premium gasoline is $1.48/ gallon and that’s with full service! And, diesel is $1.03/ gallon. There’s no currency conversion factor…Ecuador is on the US dollar. The reason for this great discrepancy is leadership. The President informed the oil companies who were drilling there and exporting the oil that the oil (and other resources) belonged to the Ecuadoran people. The people would benefit from their resources or the oil companies could leave. They stayed. There is free medical care for citizens, free education thru college, and infrastructure projects we can only dream about. That, my friends is the difference between leadership and political greed. I guess I should also factor in the stupidity and gullability of the American people (and the “not quite” American people) who continue to believe the lines fed to them by the media and their “managers”. Only when we inform ourselves and use our knowledge to select credible leaders will we be able to reverse the madness in Washington.

    • Karolyn

Wow, sounds like Ecuador is the place to be. Too bad the other South American countries can’t be like it.

      • Vigilant

Karolyn, why don’t you move to Chavez’ Venezuela? Gasoline is only 18 cents a gallon.

You seem to be so in love with Ecuadorian socialism, what happened to your support for Ron Paul?

      • Karolyn

Vig – You have to admit; it does sound pretty good, especially if the people are happy. I could live very well on only my little SS check. No thanks on Venezuela. My Spanish teacher is Venezuelan; and he has told us of the horrendous conditions down there. It is sad that the people are happy with the crumbs Chavez gives them while he lives in the lap of luxury. Of course, they don’t have much choice. It’s either that or the concentration camp.

Yes, I do agree with a lot of Dr. Paul’s views and will vote for him.

      • http://gravatar.com/bychoosing Jay

Vigilant, the answer to your question, which is really an expression of puzzlement, as to how Karolyn, and her ilk, can hold two contradictory beliefs simultaneously, and accepting both to be true, is easely understood, when we realize, that our dear friend Karolyn, is merely applying the art of Doublespeak. Another words, messing with our heads.

Doublethink:The prevailing mental condition is controlled insanity.

The rules of the Inner Party are held together by adherence to a common doctrine. In a Party member not even the smallest deviation of opinion on the most unimportant subject can be tolerated. But it is also necessary to remember that events happened in the desired manner. And if it is necessary to rearrange one’s memories or to tamper with written records, then it is necessary to forget that one has done so. The trick of doing this can be learned like any other mental technique. It is learned by the majority of Party members, and certainly by all who are intelligent as well as orthodox.

In Oldspeak it is called, quite frankly, “reality control.” In Newspeak, it is called doublethink, though doublethink comprises much else as well.

Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them. The Party intellectual knows in which direction his memories must be altered; he therefore knows that he is playing tricks with reality; but by the exercise of doublethink he also satisfies himself that reality is not violated. The process has to be conscious, or it would not be carried out with sufficient precision, but it also has to be unconscious, or it would bring with it a feeling of falsity and hence of guilt.

Doublethink lies at the very heart of Ingsoc, since the essential act of the Party is to use conscious deception while retaining the firmness of purpose that goes with complete honesty.

To tell deliberate lies while genuinely believing them and to forget any fact that has become inconvenient, and then, when it becomes necessary again, to draw it back from oblivion for just so long as it is needed, to deny the existence of objective reality and all the while to take account of the reality which one denies – all this is indispensably necessary.

Even in using the word doublethink it is necessary to exercise doublethink. For by using the word one admits that one is tampering with reality; by a fresh act of doublethink one erases this knowledge; and so on indefinitely, with the lie always one leap ahead of the truth.

Ultimately it is by means of doublethink that the Party has been able – and may, for all we know, continue to be able for thousands of years – to arrest the course of history…

But since in reality BIG BROTHER is not infallible, there is need for an unwearying, moment-to-moment flexibility in the treatment of facts.

The key-word here is blackwhite. Like so many Newspeak words, this word has two mutually contradictory meanings. Applied to an opponent, it means the habit of impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction of the plain facts.

Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary. This demands a continuous alteration of the past, made possible by the system of thought which really embraces all the rest, and which is known as doublethink.

The official ideology abounds with contradictions even when there is no reason for them.

Simultaneously, true to the principles of doublethink, the Party rejects and vilifies every principle for which the Socialist movement originally stood, and it does this in the name of socialism.

It systematically undermines the solidarity of the family all the while appealing to the sentiment of family. Even the names of the four Ministries by which Oceania is governed are a deliberate reversal of facts:

        The Ministry of Peace concerns itself with War;
        the Ministry of Truth with Lies;
        the Ministry of Love with Torture;
and the Ministry of Plenty with Starvation.

These contradictions are not accidental. They are a deliberate exercise of doublethink.

If the High are to keep their places permanently – then the prevailing mental condition must be controlled insanity.

The subtlest practitioners of doublethink are those who invented doublethink and know that it is a vast system of mental cheating. In our society, those who have the best knowledge of what is happening are also those who are furthest from seeing the world as is. In general, the greater the understanding, the greater the delusion: the more intelligent, the less sane.

clinton had an expanding tax base with the dot com stock market profits. people bought at $4 and sold at 60, and rolled over and did it again. but then in march 2000 came the bust, suddenly people were buying at 60 and selling at 4, and these tax losses were carried into gw’s first term. remember, the taxes for 2000 would be payable by april 15, 2001. so you see, gw inherited that situation. then came 911, a real economy booster there. back then, we had profit sharing posted to our 401k’s in the morning, and by the afternoon they were dust in the wind. it seems that some individuals have selectively forgotten this. i admit, there were some dang good years with clinton, that’s why i took hope with obama even though i voted for mccain. boy was i wrong. frank.

There is a direct impact of pollution for not approving the pipeline and not allowing more drilling which will result in greater production. Here is the proof. When shipping oil products in large tankers half way around the world, Each of those ships makes more pollution then 50k cars. http://www.gizmag.com/shipping-pollution/11526/ . As of 10/10/ 2008 there were about 55k such ships.

    Environmental impact of shipping. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_pollution
the fuel used by these ships is is very dirty, bunker oil. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-bunker-fuel.htm.
If we were really concerned for our environment we should produce as much of our energy supply as possibly here.

Good point! Let’s look at the deficit surplus that President Clinton left President George Bush! I never saw any republicans stand-up to speak against government spending or our economy crisis, why was that? It’s all politics, it’s obvious your a republican, never see the faults of your own party, isn’t that being a hypocrite?

  • vincente

Between the EPA’s brutal regulatory burden, Stephen Chu’s clean energy nonsense, the “quantitative easing” by Helicopter Ben and the FED, and the taxes levied by the feds, prices at the pump will go up.

Although, by temporarily lowering prices in SEPT/October, he can get enough village idiots and medicated morons to vote for him again, before jacking gas prices back up to $5/gal. Expect utility prices to skyrocket, beginning in 2013, as an executive order just clamped down on natural gas production under the guise of saving the environment. We have reached a critical mass in the electorate. More than 43 million receive food stamps from the government, and we have TENS of MILLIONS that do not pay taxes. President for Life? Barack Hussein Chavez in 2012…

let’s see what will happen. in the summer of 2008 (election year) it was easy to spend $5 for a gallon of gas in san diego. and there i was, 2000 miles from home. happily though, at 30 mpg. then suddenly later in the year prices collapsed to under $2 a gallon. good news for me, i had just gotten a paper route. which i still have. now it’s 2012, another election year. will gas prices dutifully fall again? i don’t think they will. i think the oil companies drove prices down in 2008 so that the voters would say, oh look, a repub administration and low gas prices. we better vote for mccain. instead everyone voted for the pied piper, who led us rats into a cave. so this year are the oil companies going to help the dems? oh yeah, they just love the present administration, you just watch the prices free fall. if you remember jfk, he did what was called at the time jawboning. the steel companies were going to raise prices and he met with the executives and said, don’t even think about it. they said on what authority. but they held the line anyway. does obama have this kind of clout? do you think big oil (and little also) will listen to him? they won’t even have the opportunity, they are beneath his righteous dignity.

This Ben Crystal is looking for an emtional response. Come out with the facts not the blame game. Capitalism runs oil prices and if you want capitalism your are going to have to put up with it. That is reality and lets face it capitalism can be very greedy. After all the republican party stands toe to toe for the wealthy. So there is plenty of blame. Lets not forget the capitalism runs Washington. So there is no point in blaming partys for political agenda. If one recalls that oil prices almost hit $150 a barrel in 2008 on Pres. Bush’s watch. He did like that being an oil man, however, he was only partly to blame. If you recall he did alot of sabour rattling. There was an event called the 2008 summer olympics in China. China bought up and used oil for energy instead of using coal for energy to clean up the air qualityl and that is what drove up energy prices to that extreme. After all it is supply and demand. When the games were over the market pulled back. America tried to clean up their driving habits and that also helped. However, Amerca has a short term memory ( just like our elections) and soon we are back to old habits. Here are two examples. We love to idle those cars in parking lots outside of stores at gas pumps it so easy just to turn off the ignition. Two, if every America used cloth bags for shopping instead of plastic which is an oil base product that would help. However, we Americans are creatures of habit and very waste full. So there is lots of blame to go around. So before one does the blame game look in you own back yard. America loves capitalism and we go to war for Coca cola after all, the more demand the more profit. The more oil we use the more demand, higher prices, more profit.
It so easy to blame a President, what every party that is in. Short term elections short term memory.
It all supply and demand, not political partys

    • http://katrael.wordpress.com Katrael

Mike, greed and capitalism are two different things altogether, look them up in the dictionary. What we have now in this country barely resembles capitalism. Our capitalistic system is so shackled by the government that you can almost call the system we have a socialistic system. Look up socialism in the same dictionary and you’ll see that it is a political theory that the means of production and distribution of goods resides in the hands of government. You can see that our government has American business by the short hairs through it regulatory agencies to the point where you can say that the means of production and distribution are controlled almost exclusively by the government.

Our criminal government is populated by greedy people and this greedy condition isn’t limited to either side of the aisle. Maybe we can call what we have today “greedism”?

So who controls whom? Does government control business or is it business that controls government? Well, we have a corporate government so I guess that those things: business and government, are the same thing in our case. Which, by the way, we have all entered into contracts with this corporation and that’s why the courts can ignore the constitution because we now come under contract law.

Supply and demand? Those only create mere blips on the radar as far as long term energy prices…in my opinion. Actually, if you do the math you’d find out that one ounce of silver will still buy the same amount of fuel that it did twenty years ago…roughly speaking(filtering out those supply and demand blips).

Eventually though, if Obama gets his way, supply will become so drastically limited that it might just become the dominant force in fuel prices. And yes, this thing that Obama desires makes this is a political thing. People make politics and elect politicians.

      • boyscout

Stop that. Not sure common sense and good reason are allowed here.

  • Randy131

What? You think hypocracy is something new for Rahm Emmanuel and Nancy Pelosi? Guess you haven’t learned yet that hypocracy is a trait required by every Democrat, or you can’t belong to the Party. Why not publish Obama’s rhetoric about Bush’s high gas prices when Obama was campaigning for the Presidency, you might find it strange how Obama put the balme on Bush at the time, but blames everyone else when the same thing is even worse during his Presidency, like I said, you have to be a hypocrite to be a Democrat.

  • Homer

The rule of thumb is: if it makes no sense, there is money in it! Going “GREEN” makes no sense, it is ONLY a catchy phrase for taking more money from the people! While I am ok w/conservation and using our resorses wisely, I am against this B.S. doctrine of going green! GOING GREEN, means GOING GOVT CONTROL!!!

  • Doug Rodrigues

The gasoline prices are going up exactly as Obama wanted it to. No surprise. Obama is forcing citizens into “going green.” Doesn’t anybody remember his campaign speeches about him wanting to make the oil prices go up as a way of making “alternative” energy prices more attractive? This is nothing new, except that people, in general, have short memories OR only want to remember what they choose to remember. Why else would anyone in their right minds vote for a candidate who promised that “energy prices will necessarily skyrocket.” That’s exactly what Obama said, and people still voted for him?

    • Doc Sarvis

Please tell me how President Obama is making oil prices go up.

      • Dennis48e

The same way Bush made them go up Sarvis.

      • http://katrael.wordpress.com Katrael

They’ve gone up Doc Sarvis because Obama and his fellow criminals dumped trillions of worthless promissary notes into economy. I guess you don’t understand inflation?

      • Buster the Anatolian

Doc the article isn’t about whose fault it is but rather the hypocracy of the mentioned democrats in blaiming Bush but being totaly silent now that obama is president.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tmeskers Ted Meskers

No one seems to pick up on the erosion of the US dollar. When you keep printing money with nothing to back it up, the dollar falls, and when that happens, it take more of our devalued dollars to buy the same product. The Saudis know and understand this and charge us accordingly. Go into any supermarket these days and you will see how far your eroded dollar will go. Five bucks a pound for ground beef (80% lean – the cheap stuff). Some folks call this “hidden inflation” and it looks like the US government wants to keep it hidden too – from the majority of people.

  • teaparty13

Guess it depends on who is in charge..when it was the GOP, it’s all their fault, when it’s the Dems, it someone elses..isn’t it time for these clowns to start taking responsibility?

    • Ted Crawford

Good luck with that Teaparty13! Obama just blamed the GSA debacle, three and a half years into his own term, on the fact that Bush didn’t tighten them up!

  • Ted Crawford

Claims that the Keystone Pipeline will have no effect on the price of oil are only partialiy true. Any of those who have run a business are aware that if we were fortunate enough to learn of a competitors intent to enter our market area, we immediately began to look for ways to cut our costs and therefore our prices, I do, however believe that most, if not all of this will be offset by the rising demand in the BRIC countries.
What will happen when we finally remove this economy inhibiting administration from office, is the pipeline will be approved. This will almost immediately create thousands of jobs. These immediate jobs will not be directly on the pipeline construction, it will take time for that to get up to speed. However the Refineries involved will begin to increase their capacities, creating short term construction jobs. ( 3 to 5 years). More construction jobs will be realized when the pipeline does go into construction!
This, unlike Obamas fiat stimulus, is real economic stimulus!

    • jorind

      You are absolutely correct Ted.

  • El Love

And Rush Limbaugh pointed out that Obama himself is a speculator on his green energy initiative — the costs of which have been billions of taxpayer dollars lost

  • dan

we need to look at the big picture…as the economy circles the drain gas consumption decreases …it’s supply and demand. So far the oil /gas companies have supported the price by exporting surplus gas , but as the world economy worsens….and this in spite of yet another refinery closing in N.J. We.re a huricane away from $5 a gallon.

  • Bob Button

Well there is a lot of talk about speculators causing part of the rise in the cost of Gas, Doen’t Nancy and her Husband do a lot of insider trading?

    • captain mike

I’m guessin’ the “crackdown on speculators” is just another government manipulation to give the insiders (like Congress) a chance to go short before they whack the trading desks. Sort of like they did with health care stocks before Hillary Care.

      • Ted Crawford

I believe his primary intent here Captain, is to further increase the growth inhibiting regulatory pressures, particularly on the Natural Gas Industry. He, and Steven Chu, are well aware that America has an abundent supply of Natural Gas, Steven Chu even addmitted that and then declared that , ” That’s a bad thing “!

    • eddie47d

Insider Trading never should have happened by anyone whether in Washington,Wall Street or the many Investment Co’s in this country. They are all stealing America’s wealth for themselves and the punishments are never severe enough to stop them. They don’t need any stinkin’ laws for they are for the other guy.!

  • Scott in SC

Obama certainly has his failures, but gas prices aren’t one of them. The price is controlled by a cartel and you will pay what they what they want you to pay.

    • Doc Sarvis

Correct Scott. Also, more gas will go to the higher bidder therefore; as demand increases in other countries as it is doing in China and elsewhere, they will be major factors in setting the price of this resource. It is our failure as a country to move off of the oil standard of energy. The “easy oil” is just about gone so all of the world will be spending more to find, exttract, and refine the oil from more difficult sources (deep water, tar sands, smaller concentrations, etc.

It is past time to move away from oil to other energy sources and and increase efficiencies in our use of energy.

      • Nobody’s Fool

Yeah, Doc, there’s always walking and bike riding. Try that, won’t you, in Texas in August. It would be interesting to see how long you lasted.

    • Doc Sarvis

Nobody’s Fool, I would have noooo trouble with that in Texas or Minnesota (though I might leave out the bike and take up skiing in the Minnesota winter).

  • Harold Olsen

Gas prices are going up and, according to something I read online two or three months ago, it is just what Obama wants. In the article it said Obama wants gas prices to reach $5.00 a gallon so he can use it in is reelection campaign against the Republicans. He plans on blamingt the Republicans for the higher gas prices and will equate those higher prices with the lack of domestic oil drilling which he will claim is being blocked by the Republicans. He will also blame them for other domestic energy resources that are not being explored, even though it is he and the Democrats that are doing the blocking. This, apparently will be part of his reelection strategy. Blame Republicans for his failures and the failures of his party. It’s what we get for electing an immature child instead of a mature adult to the White House.

    • Vigilant

More likely, Obama would like to see the price of gas fall before the election. He knows that the economy is the number one concern of the voters. If he wins the election, he couldn’t care less if the prices remained lower. In fact, as you say, he wishes them to rise.

He’s not blaming the GOP for any lack of domestic drilling. In fact, he’s taking credit for increases in oil production since he was elected. What he won’t tell you is that the increases have all been on private lands, sufficient enough to overcome the decreases in drilling caused by Obama policies on land and water controlled by the Feds.

While he will attempt, as he as always done, to deflect blame for problems to anyone but himself, his main strategy seems to be keeping the focus of the public off his failures. “Dog Gate,” the specious war on women, and the Trayvon Little debacle are all examples of the sleight of hand tricks being used to divert attention away from the abject failures of this presidency. .

I agree Vigilant, in fact I believe he is nearly desperate for it to come down! That is untill Nov.7. Then, if we are foolish enough to re-elect him, I believe he will turn his Energy Secretary, Steven Chu, another Nobel Laureate (remember when that was really laudable), loose. According to Chu in2007 the best thing for our country would be for gas to ” reach the levels in Europe”, between $7 &$8 per gallion!

      • Sirian

Very well said Vigilant, well said indeed!! But there’s one more factor involved that the utopians (there’s plenty on both sides of the aisle) have a tendency to conveniently forget – the depreciation of the dollar. The less a dollar is worth, the more of them it’s going to take to buy a barrel of oil. So, it goes hand in hand or hand to hand, whatever. Everything is interconnected – no exceptions. As long as the Fed continues printing and following it’s Keynesian line of action, welp, hang it up. You are so right though, Obummer is exceptionally well versed in misdirection. What he’s surrounded himself with, his support team shall we say, have it very well planned out.

      • Vigilant

Sirian, you’re absolutely correct. We’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg, and when the profligate and irresponsible fiscal and monetary policies finally hit that wall of “no more credit extended to the USA” by foreign borrowers, it will make this recession look like a picnic.

      • Vigilant

Ted, you’ve nailed it squarely. Obama’s first term was only a preparation for the final coup. If the election swings to the socialist in November, this country can do only two things: (1) bend over, and (2) kiss its backside goodbye.

He can’t possibly be so stupid (well maybe) to put the blame on the Republicans WHEN he and his Democratic robots voted down the pipeline, you can blather all you want, and believe me he’s really good at that, but sometimes those pesky FACTS get in the way!

      • Karolyn

The pipeline has nothing to do with the price of gas.

      • http://www.mototcarsfinancial.com Brad

Yep Mary just like that little pesky piece of paper, The Constitution

      • http://katrael.wordpress.com Katrael

Mary, I don’t have a problem with your assertion that there’s a connection between supply and demand for gas prices but, the truth is that a pipeline that has only just been proposed but hasn’t yet been built hasn’t had a chance to effect prices yet but, it will for certain do it in the future. As for Karolyn. That woman hasn’t been around long enough to remember when gas prices were below three dollars…I guess. And her assertion that the price will never reach $5/gallon is pure fantasy. While supply and demand have something to do with prices the greatest impact is through the dumping of a fiat currency into the economy. Not only will we see $5/gallon gas but it’ll go much higher than that and it’s only a matter of time. The real problem is the stagnant wages in relation to the thievery caused by that fiat currency. Most poor to middle income people are already feeling the bite from the nearly $4/gallon average gas now.

      • IGotAComment

And now Obama has delayed one of the two nuclear reactors that was scheduled to start construction. Didn’t hear about that in the MSM.

      • Karolyn

Katrael – I may very well have been around longer than you, since I’m 65 and can remember when cigaretes were 28 cents a pack!

      • http://katrael.wordpress.com Katrael

Good, then you know that fuel prices will never return to that level at least not on the current monetary system we hate to enjoy and that $5/gallon gas is not all that far off.

You may be older than I but still I remember the gas wars that went on between gas dealers near the Ohio/Pennsylvania State lines and we could sometimes buy gas for as little as eighteen cents a gallon and it was routinely between twenty to twenty five cents a gallon. In fact, I thought it was highway robbery when I had to buy it at twenty five cents and my car only got eight miles per gallon. I

    • Karolyn

Well, I just heard a report in passing this morning that gas prices are expected to drop by 20 cents in the not -too-far-distant future. Just like 3 years ago when the talking heads were expecting gas to go up to $5.00, it ain’t gonna happen. Of course, I am aware that there are some places with off-the-wall gas prices, but the average is now under $4. Here in SC I’m paying around $3.64.

      • http://folkartist.wordpress.com Libertytrain

        $4.71 in Chicago; $3.99 – $4.12 in Milwaukee.

      • http://google Mary

Karolyn, the pipeline has nothing to do with the price of gas?
WHERE did you come up with that? The more there is the less the cost, sort of like the supply of natural gas now, GOT IT?
Those that want alternatives the most are the ones jetting their butts all over the planet, while doing as THEY please, the rest of us can take a hike.

      • http://www.mototcarsfinancial.com Brad

Yes Karoilyn that could very well go down just a bit, but then again we are in Spring, just wait until end of May, first of June, July and that so hot time of year August we call Summer. And what do folks like to do at this time…. travel my little commie friend.

      • chuck

There is a glut of oil out there. The reason you are (and will be) paying more is that the almighty dollar has lost 35% of its buying power since 2000. Suck it up, the government is counterfeiting so much money we haven’t a chance. QE to infinity means death to the economy, and soon more than 50 million on food stamps. Ted Nugent is right, Obama, Geithner, Bernanke, Pelosi and the rest are CRIMINALS!! Scum! Ron Paul, or “the end is near”.
Bring back the Constitution, abolish the “executive order” for God’s sake, before it’s too late. Biden is a world class A.Hole, too. When will the American people WAKE UP? We are being robbed blind by people who believe debt can be eliminated by MORE debt.
Geeze, an idiot imbecile can figure that out, Karolyn.

      • Sirian

        Karolyn,
As nothing but a side note concerning the pipeline, so to speak, pull up the two videos I’ve given you the link to and watch what’s actually been going on with it. You may find it interesting, then again, maybe not. Either way, it will be worth the time to watch it. Just sayin’ . . .

The price of gas in my area dropped 5 cents since yesterday. But also yesterday, my sister and a friend of mine got layed off yesterday also. I guess gas went down because people aren’t using it to go to work anymore, therefore there is less demand.

      • http://katrael.wordpress.com Katrael

Go get em Chuck. You’re right even an idiot imbecile like myself can figure out that you can’t get out of debt by using more debt. I tried it way back when and had to end up filing a chapter 13. It didn’t work for me and it can’t for anyone else as it goes against the laws of physics. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. If a person has no debt then the second he borrows he’s in debt and if he borrows more to pay of the interest and principle on the original debt then consequently he goes deeper into debt. This works for everyone. Now, it’s possible to borrow and invest in something that pays a high enough interest rate or pays a high enough return on investment that a person can do that and get out of debt but our government criminals don’t know how to do that. In fact, inflation caused by dumping a fiat currency into the economy almost guarantees they can’t do it.

      • Karolyn

Mary – First of all, that pipeline was not going to be finished in the wink of an eye. Secondly, from what I’ve heard, the oil going through it would not be destined for the US anyway, just our refineries and then shipping overseas. Of course, they are still working on it, and it may just happen eventually.

Oh yay they are gonna drop the the price .20 cents, ooo ahhh.
Apparently you don’t really remember what the gas companies like to do.
        I will explain for you.
They raise the prices until people complain, then they drop the price a little bit and people praise it. Then a little later on, after people have acclimated, they repeat the cycle. It goes up incrementally so as not to cause knee-jerk reactional backlash. Oh and never does it stay low for long.
The .28 cents from your days and the $1.10 from mine are gone forever, as are the $ 2.50 and $3.10 levels. We have nearly become acclimated and if it drops .20 people are going to praise it and bless it, then the price goes up never to return to the previous low so the Gas companies can continue to make record proffits while everyone else gets the scraps in a crap economy. Well everone else besides Companies like Goldman & Sachs..
