Business Picks Up At LA Kid’s Arcade

LOS ANGELES (UPI) — A budding 9-year-old entrepreneur says business is still good at the handmade, low-tech game arcade he set up in his dad’s Los Angeles body shop.
Caine Monroy was seeing a steady stream of players at his Boyle Heights establishment, which was the subject of a short film “Caine’s Arcade” that went viral on the Internet, the Los Angeles Times reported Saturday.
Caine’s arcade consists of an array of penny-arcade games the youngster constructed himself out of cardboard boxes and other easy-to-come-by materials. Customers buy a pass for a specific number of plays and Caine monitors their activities with a calculator while counting off 20 seconds for each turn.
The Times said even though the hoopla over the Internet film was easing this weekend, folks were still coming by to see the arcade themselves.
Caine has a Web site for his arcade and said this weekend he would be packing the whole thing up and shipping it to San Francisco where it will be on display at the city’s Exploratorium.
