Park rangers fined a bigfoot researcher and influential member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization $525 for failing to obtain a permit to hunt the "elusive creature."

A man hunting Bigfoot has been fined $525 for failing to obtain a permit.

Matt Pruitt, a Bigfoot researcher and influential member of the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO), was leading a group through the Buffalo National River Park in Arkansas when he and his 31 comrades were stopped by park rangers. The park rangers looked up Pruitt on the BFRO website and determined that he was conducting a business venture, so he needed a permit.

Karen Bradford, chief ranger at Buffalo National River Park and one of the rangers who cited Pruitt seems to be unclear as to the real reason behind the citation. She told FOX News: “He was given money by people to lead them on an expedition. When you complete any sort of transaction you become a concessionaire and need the proper permit.”

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette quoted Bradford as saying: “We are in this to protect our resources. If he’s got people running around in the park, who knows what they’re doing looking for this elusive creature.”

Bradford told FOX News: “It’s highly unlikely that he would have gotten a permit if he applied for one. It’s not normal practice to issue them for expeditions to find Bigfoot.”

So do the park rangers also clamp down on any other groups who travel together inside the park?
You know my answer to that….

    • Dennis48e

If the leader is charging them $500.00 per person to take them through the park without a permit then yes.

  • http://Aol CommonSense4America

This has got to be a late April Fools joke. If its not, I am just getting sick and tired of the government BS. This is just STUPID. When are WE THE PEOPLE going to start saying what Nancy Reagan taught us. “Just say no”. Next, we will need a permit to get a permit. I for one am getting sick of the direction our country is heading. Our government is not abiding by our laws, now it is time for us to stand up and just say NO.

  • jopa

Opal the Gem: I don’t know how to break it to you but the part about the fountain of youth, bigfoot, and the unicorns are not true either. However you do have a right to your beliefs.Have a good one.

    • Opal the Gem

I never saqid I believed in any of them. I have an open mind about it and if their existance is positively proved I am ready to accept it otherwise it is life as usual and a “non-story”. I was refering to your insult to the good people of Arkansas.

      • 45caliber

        Opal:

jopa and most other Yankees believe that the people in AR actually do all live in trailers. Several of the Southern states have such reps in the North. And most of us like it that way since they are always impressed when they realize they’ve been had later.

      • http://folkartist.wordpress.com Libertytrain

good point 45 – most Yanks are totally clueless re the South.

      • Joe H

        libertytrain,
how is your statement any different? I’m a yankee yet I’ll bet with my father having 16 brothers and sisters, I have just as many, if not more southern relatives than you. Sorry, but I don’t like generalizations at all.

      • Joe H

BTW, those brothers and sistes? All from Georgia. I also have two nieces in Ark. and others in just about any southern state you can name. My first wife was from Columbus GA! how much more does this yankee need to know?

      • Opal the Gem

Joe H you are not slinging insults at the South like jopa did.

      • http://folkartist.wordpress.com Libertytrain

Joe – it’s not different – that was the point. Jopa, Karolyn, countless other are continually putting down the South – some worse than others. Makes them look like bigots – it’s just total ignorance.

  • s c

How predictable of Uncle Scam. In effect, if this administration didn’t have its collective head rammed up into that “special spot” that utopians love so well, this kind of stunt would never happen. There is ONE way to deal with this utopian INSANITY.
The ‘offender’ owes it to himself to make a special trip to ‘deliver’ the fine. And, he owes it to himself to deliver that ‘fee’ in person, And, if he doesn’t show up with $525 in many bags of PENNIES, then he DESERVES that damned fine.
Uncle Scam, YOU ARE A SELF-MADE RETARD!

    • 45caliber

      sc:

I remember a man getting a bill for 1 cent from the government with a warning that it had to be paid immediately or he would receive jail time … at least. But the government did offer to let him make four payments on it if he couldn’t afford it all at once. So he did … he sent them four checks for 1/4 cent.

  • JimH

My request for a yeti permit still hasn’t come through. I wanted to get a yeti before I went to Loch Ness. I wonder how hard it is to work with Scottish officials.

    • 45caliber

      JimH:

I’m sorry to tell you this but it won’t come through until several Senators get theirs first.

      • JimH

45, There are some senators that I wouldn’t mind if their paths crossed with a yeti.
The Irish got my leprechaun permit to me right away. They advise searching in pubs.(where most sightings are)

  • Keith Odle

You all miss the point. HUNTING is the opperative word here.
No HUNTING in the park! I wonder if their shoes were
confiscated?? They are lucky that it wasn’t $525 per person.
    Nov is coming.

    • 45caliber

Nothing was said about them being armed. If they were I can guarantee you that all would have been in jail with massive fines, etc. So they were LOOKING for the Big Foot, not hunting one with rifles.

  • steve

they were actually looking for an honest biped to run for some political office & were keepng it a secret.

  • Jody L

Don’t tell Rick Scott or he will be issuing permits to track the skunk-ape here in Florida.

    • Joe H

      Jody L,
I thought that was a type of politician in DC!!!

  • http://PLD FRENCHIE

BUREAUCRATIC RETARDATION AT IT’S FINEST !!! CAN WE PLEASE STOP LETTING THE “SHORT BUS TRAVELERS” HAVE POWER OVER US ? IF WE DON’T, THIS PARTICULAR BRAND OF LUNACY WILL CONTINUE UNTIL IT DRIVES US ALL TO THE POINT OF MADNESS. NEXT THING YOU KNOW, CHILDREN WILL HAVE TO BUY PERMITS TO HAVE IMAGINARY ADVENTURES WITH BARNEY, KERMIT, & DORA, WHO ARE ALL ABOUT AS REAL AS BIGFOOT. LEAVE THESE PEOPLE ALONE, THEY’RE NOT HURTING ANYBODY LOOKING FOR AN IMAGINARY CREATURE. THIS GUY CERTAINLY DOESN’T DESERVE TO BE FINED FOR IT. HE OBVIOUSLY HAS A JOB (THAT HE HIMSELF CREATED) & IS JUST TRYING TO PUT FOOD ON HIS FAMILY’S TABLE & A ROOF OVER THEIR HEADS. WHICH, I MIGHT ADD, IS NO SMALL FEAT THESE DAYS UNDER THIS CURRENT JOB KILLING, OVER- REGULATING ADMINISTRATION. JUST ONE MORE PRIME EXAMPLE OF GOVERNMENT USING LAW ENFORCEMENT AS MUSCLE TO INSURE THAT STUPIDITY PREVAILS & EXTORTED INCOME IS ASSURED, ONLY FOR THE IDIOTS TO WASTE ON SOMETHING IGNORANT LIKE MORE CONTROL OVER US….JEEZ !!!!!!!

  • Carol J

And I’m wondering who ended up with the fine money.

  • jopa

Fox news got it all wrong again and missed the real story. The group doing the Bigfoot search were all riding unicorns that just urinated in the fountain of youth thereby causing an environmental incident. This type of behavior must be stopped immediately and the people of Arkansas should pump up the tires on their homes and surround the park right now in protest.

    • http://folkartist.wordpress.com Libertytrain

Jopa – your extreme bigotry is once again proclaimed for all to see. What a little leftist man you are….

    • Opal the Gem

“… and the people of Arkansas should pump up the tires on their homes and surround the park right now in protest.”

And you need to take your feet out of the latrine, take off your sox and stuff them into your lying yankee mouth.

      • Joe H

Opal goea up….WHAM!!!! widda right hand!!!!

  • Why

Either he was conducting a business venture or he was not. Would be interesting to know how the magistrate ruled. This issue of “hunting big foot” is a red herring.

  • skippy

    what a bunch of CRAP.

  • http://www.westcoastladybugs.com RUSS SMITH

Hi!, All Ye BigFoot Chasers Et Al:

The next thing we know we’ll be fined wondering around parks trying to find their pay toilets before we either crap our pants; pee our pants or both? BigFoot chasers beware lest you stray too far afield outside the confines of the Park boundaries where do you need your BigFoot chasing permits or not? We’d kinda like to know in advance, prior to being fined wouldn’t we? Give us a break because we have some small portion of a pea sized brain too don’t we?

    RUSS SMITH, CALIFORNIA

    • Joe H

      Russ,
At least we know it wouldn’t be a pay toilet as that would be a service for a fee and THAT could lead to a fine!!!! Whata crock!!!

  • chris

Do we need a permit to hunt down stupid people in our government and place them in an asylum for viewing?

    • steve in AZ

No hunting necessary, sir. Just glance in any direction. :)

  • Mad Dog

I was arrested and fined for conducting a religious ceremony on public property (an Easter Egg Hung); and impersonating a Religious figurehead (the Easter Bunny); and Hunting (eggs) without a permit; and littering the public property (with plastic eggs); and soliciting money for this service (to cover the plastic eggs, candy and coins); and illegal use of US currency in a fashion not intended by the Department of Commerce.

Okay – none of that’s true – but it makes about as much sense as a Bigfoot fine.

    • steve

i might have a better, some what eccentric, comment. i have it from an inside source tht d.c. is working on a bill to tax the 90 % of our brain we don’t use & call it the “brain drain” tax. because it can’t be depreciated properly it’s hung up in conference, primarily over determining whether that’s the proper name for the tax., at this time,

  • Robert S

No, he got charged because he was making MONEY! She saw that he was charging people to follow him in the park, so she, being a GOOD government shrew, decided that the government should get their cut, therefore he got FINED the $525, as their CUT of his “take” of his fees off his “followers”. Simple! As for the “business license”, which she would never issue, that is another wild goose chase, up a government agency with no intelligent oversight. If she had not seen on his web sight that he charged for his services, there probably would not have been a problem…..read…..no money, no profit, no ticket. But then I’m just guessing, which with the government is all you can do until after the fact!

  • John

It never ceases to amaze me how daft people become when their civilisation crumbles. It is one thing to read about it in relation to other civilisations throughout history. It’s a whole other matter to experience it first hand.

    • steve in AZ

Sorry,John. People don’t “become daft when their civilization crumbles”. Civilization crumbles when people become daft. Actually, BECAUSE people ARE daft. Seemingly small point, but let’s try to keep it real,eh?

  • Chester

Actually, you need a permit to be paid to lead any sort of excursion through a national park, not only ones seeking the quasi mythical creature we call big foot.

  • 45caliber

Oh, Lord, what people won’t do next! LOL!

So you need a permit to hunt a mythical being. And since it is mythical, you can’t get a permit in the first place! I’ve heard it all now!

    • Sirian

Now just try to imagine how much they would fine Bigfoot if it set up a lemonade stand and was selling to little Brownies. . . go figure – LOL!!!

      • http://teamlaw.org Jazzabelle

ROFL — wow, what a mental image

      • Joe H

        Sirian,
I wonder if it took a drink, would it extend its pinky???

  • http://www.cindynel.co.za peter

This has got to be an April fool’s joke. A licence to hunt a non existent creature? Do we now need a licence to look for missing people too? If he caught Big Foot would he be a hero and have his fine rescinded? By all accounts this creature has had anough time and has enough power to destroy the natural resources himself and does not need any assistance from a few hapless hunters at all. Let them be, he would probably eat them all in one month.

    • http://www.ifonlyphotos.com Alex Frazier

“A licence to hunt a non existent creature?” should be, “A licence to hunt an unsubstantiated species?” The lack of evidence is not evidence of non-existence. When someone one day finds what everyone has been looking for in the Pacific Northwest and determines that it was merely an undiscovered breed of gorilla, then we can put it to rest once and for all. Until then, it’s always possible that it exists.

      • Grumpyolman

“Lack of evidence is not evidence of non-existence”. Would you please convey that message to all of the atheists?

      • Joe H

        AMEN GRUMPY!!!!

      • http://www.ifonlyphotos.com Alex Frazier

I’ve been preaching that message for a long time. And the actual phrase (which I was having a hard time remembering when I typed the other post) is: “The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.”

    • jimster

You laugh but, oil companies are being fined for not putting a nonexistent addetive into their gas. And of course any fines are added to the price of the gas.

    • Robert Smith

Missed teh point, Peter: “A licence to hunt a non existent creature? ”

The point is CHARGE MONEY to run a tour to find Bigfoot. IOW the guy was running a BUSINESS. If taxpayers are supporting the land where he runs his business why aren’t we entitled to some remuneration for that?

Or, is it just another way to get money out of my pocket into the pocket of a business?

      Rob

  • hooder

Wow! Idiotic government intervention at it’s worse.

  • angelwannabe

Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
    Ronald Reagan

…I’ll add_tax it or fine it, even if the entity exists or not!

  • TIME

Get ready as this is only the point of a very small pin. Soon you will need a Permit to have SEX. Or even a permit to buy food, cloths, by the way you will be told what food and cloths you can buy thats if your even lucky enough to be able to buy such items.

You can thank not only the Health Care Reform Act for what soon will be the vast new law system, but also the all the Ignorant fools who have been used to create this New Nazi like state..

If the Ruling comes back from the SC that the HCRA is legal then within just a few years if it even takes that long or if we even still exist as a nation all of what I just noted will be the LAW of the Land.
What is the main goal of Agenda 21, when you can answer that question all of the noted issues will stand on their own legs.
Again the answers are all there hidden in plain sight, all one need do is just take off the blinders and use your gray matter.

    Peace and Love

    • 45caliber

      Time:

The permit to buy food, etc. is called a ration card. I’ve already heard some comments about it coming. After all, the government wants to make sure you are eating healthy, right?

    • David169

I believe you have hit on the key to it all. The “permit” to buy food and clothing will be coming. I believe it is called the “Mark of the beast” or 666.
I’d sure like to see Nero with his head shaved.

      • brianS

David, you are right, but they already have all the information on everyone via, internet, mobile phones, credit cards etc etc. Soon we will need a permit to travel (and by the way, this is closer than you think) and have to marry whom they say etc etc. People laugh but it is going to happen. Complete control of every citizen. They are already trying to take the guns.

      • Joe H

        David169,
I got some news for you. There are more than a few people, myself included< that will die before we take THAT mark!

    • afdbghq

Yes a permit will soon be required for everything even for having kids. You see it will be a big burden on the health care system and/or the educational system if someone has a child with any physical or mental problems. Therefore every couple who want to have children will have to undergo an in-depth physical and DNA screening. Anyone the government determines may have a chance for physical or mental shortfalls in their offspring will be denied a permit to have a child. All for the good of the collective of course. Oh, this has been done before. Does Hitler ring a bell? Of course the elites will be exempt from all the rules because the rules are for the common folk (workers). Oh, I forgot, this is already happening. The group is called the federal government (Senators, Representatives, Department Heads, the president, etc.).

    • 45caliber

Laws are supposed to be enacted to protect you from the aggressions or stupid actions of others.

However, the government wants to protect you from your own stupid actions. So they enacted the “Seat Belt Law”. This requires you to wear a seat belt for your own protection.

How many of you protested that? I did by sending a letter to my Congressman and Senators. Not that it did any good.

But if they have the RIGHT to save you from your own stupidity by making you wear a seat belt, they also have the right to save you from all your other possible mistakes. Mistakes like taking the wrong job. Mistakes like living in the wrong place. Mistakes like going to the wrong places. Mistakes like marrying the wrong person and having kids with that person.

See what a little ignorance or ignoring of a simple law can result in?

  • Sirian

If this isn’t another prime example of how ridiculous things have become. A group of people are out looking for Bigfoot and **zippity-do-da** you have to have a permit to do so. “It’s highly unlikely he would have gotten a permit if he applied for one.” SAY WHAT? Oh good Lord, idiocy at it’s best. What’s next? Are they going to illustriously fine Boy Scout troops, Girl Scout troops or any group of people that happen to be in that park just walking around looking for different things? Environmentalists beware, you could be targeted next! If this isn’t a true absurdity what isn’t? Hmmm, well Karen Bradford, if you come across a Bigfoot, how much you gonna fine him or her for? Makes about the same amount of sense, now doesn’t it.

I have lived in Arkansas most of my life and do not recall ever hearing about a “bigfoot” in the Buffalo River area or anywhere else in the Ozark Mountains for that matter.
