A Quick Cure For That Queasy Feeling
People can feel nauseous for a variety of reasons, including motion sickness, pregnancy or certain medical treatments. Luckily, there may be a soothing cure for nausea in your kitchen cabinet.
According to research published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, researchers found that chemotherapy patients who drank shakes containing 32 grams of protein had less frequent and severe nausea than patients who ate normally or had lower-protein shakes.
The patients also took powdered ginger capsules, but researchers noted that the protein had a greater effect on the nausea.
When you feel queasy, your stomach muscles contract more often. The researchers found that protein helps restore the normal, steadier rhythm of contractions.
So the next time you feel nauseous, mix up a shake with protein powder. Or you can just eat lean, protein-rich foods like fish and skinless chicken. You’ll find that these tasty foods can help soothe your sour stomach.
