Jane Fonda To Play Nancy Reagan
Hanoi Jane will play former first lady Nancy Reagan in an upcoming film.

The first lady who once wanted to replace the fine china in the White House will be portrayed by one of Hollywood’s oldest actresses in an upcoming movie that has caused quite a stir among Republican moviegoers.

Many conservatives are baffled that Nancy Reagan will be played by liberal activist Jane Fonda in director Lee Daniels’ upcoming film “The Butler.” Well-known for her liberal activism as well as her opposition to the Vietnam War, Fonda is often referred to as “Hanoi Jane” because of the visits she made to the country during the conflict.

Daniels’ choice of Fonda to portray the wife of conservative icon President Ronald Reagan has caused uproar throughout conservative media. It has been noted by some people that Fonda was likely chosen in spite of her personal beliefs because her appearance is similar to that of the former first lady; others are calling the film a liberal attempt at mockery.

The movie is based on the life of Eugene Allen — the head butler of the White House who served eight Presidents. Fonda will not be the only star in the film. The flick, which is tentatively set for a summer start, may also feature Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, Liam Neeson and John Cusack.

    Hanoi Jane, you make me feel sick inside. My husband was in the Vietnam war and risked his life for South Vietnam to be a free country !! YOU were a traitor to your country !! I ask myself WHY did you come back here ?? If it were up to me you would be either put in jail as a traitor or deported to a Communist country with NO more entry into the United States.
    Men died because of what you did.
    As for playing Nancy Reagan, I WILL NOT go and see that !!! If you feel like you need to play somebody in the movies ……play Hitler. You both had 1 thing in common, killing American soldiers !

        I served in Vietnam from Jun ’68 – ’69 and I was there doing what I felt right. I was answering a call to protect people that couldn’t defend themselves because they couldn’t they asked the US to help out. I was damn proud to have done my duty, oh I damn near lost by Brother there in 1970.

        Oh, I feel that some of those anti-establishment jerks that were protesting against us (the Military) being involved over there are now the ones that are now our elected leaders (US Senate and Congess).

When ordinance is falling all around you and you’re taking direct and indirect fire, it’s a friggin war. They hated Communism and what it was doing to them. You have no idea the attrocities that were being commited to the South Vietnamese by the VC Communists. What we did over there DID matter and those people, when we go back to the villages and hamlets we defended and helped liberate, they hug us and they remember us. With tears in their eyes, they hug us and thank us for what we did for them. Mark, that is something you will never see for yourself and something you will never see in our now Communist news media. Don’t take what you think you know and portray it as something that is fact, because it is not. All you did here is echo the thoughts of people who want you to think that our efforts were meaningless. That makes you their puppet.

    I was in South Vietnam risking my life while Hanoi Jane was playing footsie with the Commies. To have her play Nancy Regan is an insult to the Regans, and flinging snot in the face of America. Is there no morality in Hollywood? I won’t see the movie. I wouldn’t bother making it, because it’s not going to make any money.

    Nancy Reagan.She came out with the slogan for the war on drugs,”Just say No” when it came to drugs.The Conservatives ran with this as one of the greatest ideas of all time and made her an American hero.Hows the war going so far for yah??         Larry, did you serve during the Viet Nam era? If not, you don’t know what you are talking about because you didn’t live it.

        Not all who have served their country are or were warmongers. Many were just average Joes, like me, who were doing what they saw at the time, and in the context of that time, was the right thing to do for their country. It is easy to look back with the benefit of now knowing how it turned out, but in those days for many of us 18-22 year olds in uniform there was great turmoil and uncertainty. Maybe we weren’t as brilliant as you were at the time to know how it would all turn out.

        Hanoi Jane was a traitor who aided, abetted and gave comfort to the enemy in time of war, which is a treasonous act in all ages and all wars. To those of us who saw the repercussions of her acts against her own country she will always be a repulsive, repugnant enemy of America. We will never forget, we will never forgive!

    I really don’t have a problem with Jane playing Nancy Reagan or the actions of Tom and Jane in the Vietnam War.

    You have to remember that the core of the Anti-war movement were the Vets that came back from the War on the GI Bill.

    A Little history.

    The Vietnam war was a war based on lies and the people that got us into that war were the ones that needed to be strung up or shoot. People like Henry Kissinger.

    The earliest assessments of what it would take to win that war (if that was even possible) were pushed under the rug because the armaments industry wanted to sell tanks, Hueys, guns and bombs.

    Just something to think about.

    As a Vietnam Veteran, I have long since forgiven Jane Fonda for anything she might or might not have done exercising her right to freedom of speech, which I put my life on the line to defend. My Honorable Discharge, like the Constitution, is a piece of paper with ink on it. Ms Fonda has paid a high price for the exercise of her rights, as have many other actors and actresses. Let her play the part in the movie, and I will exercise my right to not go see it.

That picture taken obviously didn’t put her in a good light and she did say she was sorry for that. She has absolutely no reason to apologize for protesting against the war. No one does.

        Eddie, the only apology she gave was being caught on film sitting on our enemies’ tanks. She has said she does not apologize for anything else. She wasn’t just opposing the war, she was opposing our troops! If she wanted to show her freedom of speech, that’s one thing, however, she empowered our enemies. Protest our government in our own country if you want to make a statement. Some will forgive her, but her crimes against our own soldiers is too heinous to forgive.

      Fonda has the right to speak her mind anywhere in America. What she didn’t have the right to do is give “aid and comfort” to the enemy. She went to Hanoi, she was photographed sitting on an anti aircraft gun, with a big grin on her face.
      that alone demoralized our military, not to mention the friendly little chats she had with the commanders of the Viet Cong. And she didn’t ask for forgiveness. She merely said she was sorry if anyone was offended. I wouldn’t spit on her if she was on fire. And I won’t be watching anything that she is in, even if she guest stars on my very favorite show.

I was in Nam in 68′ and 69′ and well remember Ms. Fonda’s betrayal to us and our mission for those in that country that were fighting Communism. Ms. Fonda went far beyond protesting the war in Viet Nam. She used her political influence and her family reputation and pull as well as her financial assets to personally injure and kill American soldiers who were incarcerated in a POW camp, the Hanoi Hilton. To stand outside a recruiting office, holding a sign and yelling at the top of your lungs that our involvement in a war you don’t believe in is called protesting. She, as I have stated, went far beyond that. SHE KILLED! With her hand tightly holding those men’s personal information on those few pieces of paper, she had only to take them with her and their families would have known that they were still alive. Instead, she chose to take those pieces of paper and hand them over to the camp comandant, an action of deliberate betrayal. For this, those men were severly punished, beaten and some died from that punishment. All they wanted to do was let their families know that they were still alive. They trusted her to be an American, an ambassador that would help them connect with their loved ones and she chose to betray them. When she did that, she ceased to be anything other than the lowets form of life in my eyes. She placed herself on the pedastal beside Benedict Arnold. In fact, she took the head of the line. That was her choice and you and some others may forgive her for that act, but the fact remains that she not only chose to protest a war, she chose to aid and abet the Communits enemy, an act that I as an American will never forgive. It is because of the complacency that now exists in our country, the laxed vigilance to Communist’s intervention that we now have the corrupt leadership we now have in this country. It is because of the “Jane Fondas” and people like her using their “Hollywood” influence to further their personal agendas that good men and women will suffer and die all over this world. In closing, if you can’t support the people who are defending your rights to be stupid, get the hell out of this country. There are plenty of Communist thinking countries you can go to.

        I too was in ‘Nam from Jun ’68 to Jun ’69 seving wth A Co. 228th Avn Bn, 1st Cavalry Division (AM), we flew out of Bear Cat. i noticed that the Cong and NVA activity increased after her little escapade. I did’t find out why until I returned home and my family asked me about it. When they told me why I imediately found my movie “Barbrailla” and put it in the round file (Trash) and from that day on I have never watched a movie, or even a show on TV that featured Hanoi Jane. AND I NEVER WILL!

        When that piece of crap comes to a theatre near me I will be standing out front with some friend excercising out Freedom of Speech with signs that say “HANOI JANE, WE WILL NEVER FORGET.”

        I would thoroughly enjoy if such a protest went nationwide and caused the theatres to pull the it.

As for Hanoi Jane, I’ve never bought a single thing that ever had anything to do with her and when I did get may hands on anything, I burned it. People say that she’s appologized for what she did and act like that’s all it takes to make the booboo go away. Sorry, that’s not how it works. For her, there’s no “King’s X.” NO appology or appologies can undo her betrayal to this nation and its warriors. I will call upon every American to go to the theatres in their towns and cities and let them know that they will not only protest the movie if they decide to show it but to let them know they will no longer patronize that theatre ever again in the future and will encourage all their families and friends to do the same. If we all stand together on this, our voices will be heard. Hollywood will have no reason to make movies if nobody is going to the theatres to see them. BTW and FYI, it’s interesting to note that ESPN, the sports channel who killed one of our young auto racing stars advertisment because they said it had political and religous overtones, (which it did not) is a sub of ABC which is owned and a sub of Walt Disney Productions. The tentacles of this monstor seem to end up in Hollywood. Are you getting the picture?

        Yes, angel you got that right Reagan was an orator – too bad he wasn’t a leader or a conservative. He gave great speeches at the border then gave us the amnesty from hell. He railed on about small government but never did get rid of the Department of Education like he promised.

        It’s a good thing we have so many wonderful you-tubes of Reagan speeches to “remember” him by. If we didn’t, we would have only his record to go on. In that case Reagan wouldn’t be Reagan would he?

    I’m not sure that I didnt already know that as fact though it seems as if I have blogged this opine before.I am almost certain that I would like the individual actors themselves if I met them personally.But I find their positions on the conditions of both California and the nation reprehensible.
    But they are likely far more in the know than I am.
    Let’s face it folks,being uber wealthy probably has it’s perks.
    Traveling the world getting other peoples opinions,and earnestly listening to them.
    Personally,I can’t remember the last time I thought,”The french and their opinions are important to me”,but then again they arent really that important to me in the grand scheme.

        In so much as our political views are often seen as defining us so then might our chosen vocation?But when we use that system as a measuring stick then whatever political aims we make which define us,which clash with our faith then we have someone like you to tell us how bad our faith really is.Yet for some reason when an actress,who had previously aligned herself with an opposing form of political view suddenly is being called on it,then you use that hammer of ones own perceived righteousness to hit us over the head.

        Its not as if they are painfully obvious to us.We only have to live with them.
