Florida's "stand-your-ground" law has come under scrutiny in the wake of the killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

SANFORD, Fla., (UPI) — A prosecutor in the Florida case against the neighborhood watch volunteer accused of killing Trayvon Martin said it may be tough to get a conviction.

State Attorney Angela Corey, the lead prosecutor in the case against George Zimmerman, pointed to Florida’s “stand-your-ground law,” which allows a person to use deadly force if attacked.

“The stand-your-ground law is one portion of justifiable use of deadly force,” Corey said told ABC News. “And what that means is that the state must go forward and be able to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. … So it makes the case in general more difficult than a normal criminal case.”

Zimmerman shot Martin, 17 and black, Feb. 26 after following him and telling police Martin looked suspicious because he was wearing a hoodie.

Zimmerman and Martin fought and Zimmerman fatally shot Martin.

The shooting and the fact Zimmerman has not been arrested or charged have brought widespread protest and outrage.

Zimmerman has claimed self-defense, and Craig Sonner, a lawyer representing him, told ABC News he would likely invoke the stand-your-ground law.

When Zimmerman fired the single shot into Martin’s chest, he thought “one of them was going to die that night,” Sonner said.

The U.S. Justice Department and the FBI are investigating the case as a possible hate crime.

ABC News said there’s enormous pressure from local and State authorities for Zimmerman’s arrest.

Corey said if Zimmerman is charged, it might not be for weeks.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, the school Martin attended, dressed in black Monday to protest, The Miami Herald reported.

Last week, students protested at more than 30 Miami-Dade schools and staged walkouts at about 10 schools in Broward County.

Let’s not rush to judgement, we haven’t heard from Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz, or Rachael Maddow yet. What’s wrong with you people?

  • http://Yahoo Moose

The AP does it again; they imply that Zimmerman is guilty and that Trayvon is an innocent child. Why don’t you wait for the facts to come out before you convict him.

    • eddie47d

What about gottaplenty declaring Zimmerman innocent and Trayvon guilty when there is no proof of that?

      • anonymous

the only PROOF that is available is that zimmerman defended himself, there is no other PROOF to date

  • http://personallibertydigest gottaplenty

All you have to do is read the headlines and you know the story.. black youth killed t and gun… then the typical venom from the left and blacks.. the story about the entire incident could have been two full pages of the NY times and those few words is the typical liberal’s extent of thought. It has been pointed out that many many times this same sort of thing has happened and the blacks get as much mileage as possible from it. Even times when they could promote disaster and destruction after it was proven the shooting was justified. As long as the victim was black it cant be justified. what in the hell was this clown doing going thru that neighbor hood at night anyhow. Casing an easy mark or something? The libs and blacks will not accept any investigation results that prove the hoodie might of had it coming .. ..

This is a race issue, and anyone who thinks otherwise is not paying attention. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have done their level best to make it so, with great success. Just based on what has been in the papers, Zimmerman was retreating to his car per police dispatcher instructions when Martin confronted him. Based on eyewitness reports, Martin initiated the violence, and physical evidence at this point seems to bear that out. A 17 yr old high schooler is not a little kid as the press is portraying him either. He is younger, faster, and in better shape than Zimmerman and could easily get the jump on him. When somebody is on top of you slamming your head into the concrete, you are justified into using deadly force because that is what is being used on you.

This is exactly the type of situation that caused the Stand Your Ground law to be passed in the first place. The only difference is that in this case, it is one adult sized kid attacking somebody instead of the usual three or four. This sort of thing happens all the time all over the country, though usually the perpetrators don’t get shot. How many videos do we see on the news every week of some thug in a hoodie jumping the counter in a convenience store and beating down or shooting the clerk? As far as the profiling charge goes, there is no doubt these types of crimes are committed by blacks in the majority of cases (mostly on other blacks, but not all by any means). The numbers don’t lie, whether you call it profiling or not.

The bottom line here, however, is that the media and the black civil rights people (Sharpton, et. al.) are trying to turn this into a racial incident, and they are being aided and abetted by the mainstream media and their anti-gun agenda. If they keep pushing this sort of thing sooner or later they’ll get the race war they seem hell-bent on starting.

Come on people, about the photo…it’s a staged picture by someone who dosn’t know better. Give ‘em a break!

    • eliwhit

No it was staged for sensationalism my friend and you are right it is very unprofessional!

  • goatee

The picture displayed is nothing more than to cause an uproar toward the confiscation of guns. This picture is a person that appears to be under age and should not have a gun in the first place. He / She CERTAINLY is not a person that has a permit to carry. The law requires first that the firearm be in a hoster, NOT STUCK DOWN IN A BELT. It is your option to carry with safety on or off. IT IS NOT AN OPTION TO HAVE FINGER ON TRIGGER BEFORE TARGET IS IN YOUR SIGHTS.

    • CZ52

“The law requires first that the firearm be in a hoster, NOT STUCK DOWN IN A BELT.”

Don’t know where you live but where I live there is NO holster requirement.

” This picture is a person that appears to be under age and should not have a gun in the first place.”

Looks like a 21+ hand to me not an underage persons hand.

      • eliwhit

You motards this is not a picture from the scene this is a picture used to make idiots assume just that and then come up with all sorts of crap. If you are serious you have been had and sensationalized which is just what the media wants is you to be pounding around acting stupid! But I think that you are smarter than that!

      • eliwhit

Since when can you look at the back of a persons hand and determine how old they are, Give the world a break it is only a picture and it contains many errors of carry protocal. But Carry does not if licensed to do so require a holster at all me bucko. Now straight unlicensed vehicular carry requires one or a case locked but it requires a holster with a trigger strap in Florida. But you are not allowed to carry this on your person without being certified to do so!

      • CZ52

eliwhit I know it is not a picture from the scene I was replying to
goatee’s comments. As far as determining the age from the photo, that was the whole point of my responce to his comment about the age.

      • eliwhit

My apologies CZ52 , missed that part, again my apologies to you sir!

      • Charles Moore

You are mainly correct. I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Florida. A few years ago I was getting out of my car to go into a convenience store. As I was getting out of my car my shirt slid up and there was a pickup next to me that sat up much higher then my car. I was standing in line and the Police came in and approached me and asked if I had a gun. They escorted me outside and another Police car pulled up. I showed the Police my permit and asked of there was a problem, The Police replied “NO” and told me to secure it better and not to expose it. The key word here is “properly secured”. It does not have to be in a holster. If it is kept in a holster there is no certain kind of holster that is necessary. A person could use a fanny pack, The permit stats “concealed weapon and firearm license. It could be any kind of concealed weapon . You don’t need a holster for a knife etc.

  • Paul

So now the President can sit back and allow the Black Panthers to put a bounty on this man’s life, and he says nothing? What a reproach and shame for the leader of a nation to come to such a low level. Stand up for what is right and just in this nation. So next time a black man shoots a white man, the Klan can put a bounty on his head also, boy would that hit the news and cause a stir, what incredible hypocrisy, where is the leadership in this nation when we need it.

    • eddie47d

The bounty was wrong just like that which the Klan perpetuated on society for decades.

      • Paul

what the klan perpetuated has been condemned by many. Also referring to what others did wrong certainly does not justify a present wrong. And to make this a race issue is continued hypocrisy. Zimmerman looka more hispanic, why play the white/hispanic card? I can tell you why, because this is happening in Florida, hello, wake up. You start some sort of race fight with the hispanics and the blacks will have there butts handed to them. Of course you want to focus on the white side of Zimmerman, those hypocritical black reverends wouldn’t dare stir this up against the hispanics, nor would Obama. He has to suck up for every vote needed in the coming election. A bounty, what is this the wild west, and who do these arrogant black panthers think they are? So next time a white boy or hispanic boy is killed by black, then lets not have the liberal media come out to condemn. What are you going to do if a black kills a hispanic and the MS 13 comes out to put a bounty on someone. Now you have a storm you don’t want. Or some white militia coming out with a bounty. Wake up people. Where is the leadership in the nation with backbone to stand for justice. Our constitution says, “we the People” not we the white, black or hispanic people. If this was black on black crime, it would never have made the news.

  • A.J.

Having conducted these types of investigations I can only say that at this point it is too early to draw any definitive conclusions about whether or not Mr. Zimmerman should be or will be charged. The quality of the Sanford Florida Police investigation will ultimately be determined by the FDLE investigation and that of Federal authorities. Whether or not there is sufficient basis to label this a “hate crime” will ultimately be determined by the facts and not by the media or groups on either side of this tragic situation. We may not like all of the results of these investigations but the facts and applicable law should determine the outcome.

The teen was suspended from school three times.
Sounds like a good law abiding child to me. (sarcasm)
He was on school suspension after officials caught him with a ‘marijuana pipe’ and a baggie with drug residue when he was shot at 3 AM.
3AM? I’m sure his mama was waiting up for those skittles at 3 AM (sarcasm)
Trayvon was kicked out of school in October for graffiti after he was allegedly caught with a ‘burglary tool’ and a bag full of women’s jewelry (12 women’s rings given to him by “a Friend” along with watches)
Officials also suspended him once for skipping school and tardiness
His latest photo from Facebook shows a sweet young man with a mouth full of gold teeth.
He also tweeted that his punched out a bus driver.

I remember growing up and I sure was not out at 3 am … with or without skittles.

Hey Spike, put your address, email, and phone out there. Man up!

  • Benton Bain

Trayvon Martin was suspend 3 times from school; defacing lockers, caught with a marijuana pipe & baggie and school bag containing 12 women’s jewelry including wedding band, diamond earrings, watch & with screwdriver described as a “burglary tool,” according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police.

Are Dwyane Wade, LeBron James & Miami Heat teammates, & Ray Lewis of NFL Baltimore Ravens putting up the lynch money for the Black Panthers wanted dead or alive bounty???

Hollywood negroid Spike Lee put the address & phone number on the internet of George Zimmerman with the only obvious reason to create violence or intimidation. The addresses & phone numbers of Lee, the donors of the lynch money, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton (remember Tawany Brawley), and the Black Panthers should be equally put on the internet!!!

  • Cheryl

i don’t know what happened during the time that Mr Zimmerman ran and followed the boy but all I know is what the scriptures tell me that is not right for anyone to take a life and no matter what the outcome is the Lord has the last word whether here or the hereafter. Right now I pray that the truth will come out as criptures says what is done in the dark will come to light.

    Peace, love to all.

    • http://madgorilla.wordpress.com madgorilla

You need to get a reality check, Cheryl, and join the real world. I wonder how you’d feel if you found yourself being victimized by some guy in a hoodie on a dark sidewalk? Defending yourself with deadly force when you are confronted with the same is NOT murder, and there is nothing in scripture that you can quote that justifies being a victim.

      • Honestly

madgorilla…I read Zimmerman was told to NOT follow this young man, maybe if he had listened this would have never happened.

      • http://madgorilla.wordpress.com madgorilla

To Honestly: Zimmerman, and his attorney say that he was returning to his vehicle when Martin confronted him. In other words, he was retreating as instructed. As more facts become available, it is obvious that Martin was not the angelic young man the media has claimed him to be. I could recite a ton of cases similar to this carried out by similar “angelic” young men, but anecdotal information isn’t admissible, so its pointless.

      • Honestly

Maybe not all of the facts are in as of yet. There seems to be a lot of judging going on here, so maybe everyone needs to be nice and not judge.

  • dan

The stand your ground law has all of the liberals and ambulance chasers in a mouth-foaming tizzy….it’s rather humorous if not predictable that they’d try to undo in the media what they couldn’t with legislation .
I just would hate it if someone bigger than me were on top of me slamming my head into the ground….I’d start to worry about what would happen when they got hold of my pistol.

    • eliwhit

Exactly dan and I likely would have blown his ass away if he had me pinned and trying to do me in with my own gun(That is if all this is true)! Somewhere I read that Martin was shot in the head and a wrestling with the gun on the ground sound as though it may wash if Zimmerman was overpowering his (Martins) control of the gun! But no matter If you are in fear of your life you are entitled to kill the assailant regardless of the Stand your ground Law. There are more than one law that will be taken into consideration in Florida. I lived there 40 years and carried 20 plus years!

  • Nobody

I only know what I have heard on the tube. But it seems the shooter called 911 and was told to stay where he was. But he did not instead he followed him. I feel that turns it into a stalking. I also believe it had nothing to do with race. Also seems the Zimmerman has called 911 many times. So as a gun owner and believer in the right to bare arms. I think Zimmerman is wrong for following subject after being told not to. Everyone is over reacting. How come there is no outrage when it it Black on black killing or black on white. It is only when when white on black. Have a question what is a white/hispanic.?

    • http://Aol CommonSense4America

      It’s the opposite of black/hispanic.

      • eliwhit

You know like Cubans are white and hispanic. Mexicans are dark and hispanic, Haitians are black hispanics and so on and so on!

    • anonymous

zimmerman stopped following when the 911 dispatcher asked him to, he was followed back to his truck by martin and attacked, the second 911 call was from the witness who saw zimmerman on the grass with his head on the sidewalk being pummeled by martin

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1141461026 Robert Greeley

Get rid of that law. It is stupid and a typical example of over-legislating. It has always been a legal option. When Kennedy was killed, a legislator discovered there was no law that specifically made it illegal to kill a President, so he wrote one. The same garbage. See Trayvon’s 6’3″ sullen, defiant school photos and you decide if this is a nice kid with skittles. To drag race into this is an insult to all Blacks. His mom doesn’t want his reputation killed. I believe Trayvon had already done that himself. Why didn’t he run to his dad’s girlfriend’s home? Or stand still and call 911? He was suspended for 5 days because of marijuana, but his marijuana bag might have been empty. Holy Skittles, Batman. How unfair can life be. Zimmerman overstepped his duties and helped create a crisis. That was very wrong. .After Rodney King endangered an entire Black community fleeing from cops and resisting arrest, the community rioted and tried to wreck all of Los Angeles, when they should have helped the cops beat Rodney, a repeat criminal. If Rodney had run over 10 Blacks and killed them, the cops would have been blamed for chasing him. If all the cops had been Black, they’d have been called “Uncle Toms” and they’d still have rioted. Makes no sense. . .

    • http://Aol CommonSense4America

You need a law against killing presidents? I thought that killing was illegal.

      • 45caliber

Murder is a state law. The feds don’t like to admit that and want laws so they can punish instead.

A Marine on the border about twenty years ago now shot and killed a Mexican who was shooting at him and his friends. He was tried in a miltiary court at the behist of the Feds who wanted to make Mexico happy – and was found innocent. So the feds insisted it should have been tried in a civil court since the Mexican was a civilian. So the civilian court found him innocent too. Then he was tried by the Feds on civil rights violations which is/was the ONLY thing the feds could try him on. I believe he was foiund innocent there too. One reason might have been because the Marine was of Mexican decent too. But when it came down to the finals, he was tried THREE times for the same crime because the Feds wanted to find him guilty so Mexico would feel better about it. Not because what he did was wrong.

      • eliwhit

Now Chris I like that story and that is not just the Marine Sniper motto I try to make it mine as well, I was taught that by my Stepdad. I cannot say it is always the outcome but I try to make it so!

    • eliwhit

Good report .45 Caliber. I love it when the darn government will do everything in there power to break it off in the ass of an innocent person and all the while they have blood on their own hands. How long ago do you recall that this took place!?

      • Chris

Scout sniper for 1st Battalion 4th Marine Regiment from Camp Pendleton back in 1997. Was on loan to the DEA working jointly with Border Patrol to track drug smugglers. Only fired one shot after being fired upon several times. Marine Corps sniper motto….one shot, one kill.

  • LAB

Don’t you think this whole thing is a tad crazy? What about that professor Obama said was so righteous and just cuz he was black? Oooops…What about that debacle when the Duke students supposedly raped that girl cuz she was black??? oh, ooops again! There are numerous times I can relay that this “race” crap has been thrown out by Obama and it is out of control….Now the “great seer” can tell what his son would be and look like because he’s black??? Or is it true, he thinks all blacks look alike??? Dividing our country is the agenda with Obama and it seems to be working for him…also, he has been losing a LOT of his backing from the people of color in this nation so he needs to restore their “love!” That’s all that this is really about. We ALL need to step back and let the investigation play out and get FACTS, not fall prey to another hoopla of “RACE!” Race should not be the deciding factor no matter what. If Z is guilty, he will be charged and tried, unfortunately, he will NEVER get a Fair Trial now. This crap is destroying us all and it really needs to end. Starting with the POTUS.
    God Bless us ALL ;0)

    • eddie47d

It seem to me that LAB is turning this into a racial issue instead of confronting the poor handling of this situation by the police and the legality of the law.

      • Thor

How can you refer to an incomplete investigation as ‘poorly handled’? I suppose you’d be happier with the false arrest of a man who is simply defending himself. The investigation may well find Zimmerman indictable based on the evidence. There has to be evidence of a crime before an arrest. Now that Mr. Obama and Al Sharpton have weighed in on the issue, no doubt an arrest is imminent–evidence of not.

      • eddie47d

The police did not fully investigate until days after the killing. Something wrong with that picture.

      • eliwhit

Eddie you are an obvious dimwit, I suggest you go back to all of the articles and reread them all. I think your predisposed memory is failing you in order that you can come up with your own predisposed verdict! Wake up and smell the coffee man!

  • eddie47d

The Stand Your Ground Law is bogus and gives to much power to the shooter. Since this law was enacted there have been 93 self defense cases under the stand your ground law where 30 were legitimate shootings in defense of one persons. What about the other 63 where the authorities can’t prove any form of self defense at all? Some are now saying it’s being used as an legal excuse to murder someone. Why,because all the shooter has to say is that he/she was attacked and their word will be taken over the deceased. The law is weak and gives the shooter/defender way to much leeway in covering up a deliberate killing. Since Trayvon had a right to be in that neighborhood and was walking to his fathers house the killing/confrontation was unnecessary. Zimmerman was told by police to back off and he instead confronted Trayvon with a weapon. He made himself look like an attacker which scared Trayvon who apparently went to defend himself. (should he have passively allowed someone to put a gun in his face or fight back). The police made a huge mistake in not arresting Zimmerman and waiting days before they got an official statement, searching for evidence and taking a toxicology test. Now it is all damage control. In another stand your ground case in Ruskin Florida there was a road rage situation where two guys got into an argument. The one guy Mr Polanco got out of his car with an ice pick and went over to the other car and sliced this college kids (Waltison) head open. Polanco was in no danger and the Waltison kid had no weapon yet because of the Stand Your Ground Law the police said it was self defense and Polanco was never arrested. Bizarre to say the least.

    • http://madgorilla.wordpress.com madgorilla

Stand Your Ground is not bogus. Despite predictions by the liberals and the anti-gun media, this law hasn’t resulted in wholesale shootings of innocent people, and more than concealed carry laws have precipitated Dodge City shootouts over traffic rage. In fact, these laws, in the states where they are on the books, have resulted in significant drops in violent crimes against persons and property. That is very well documented and irrefutable.

Law abiding citizens have had to put up with being the victims and retreating in the face of aggression by thugs and gang-bangers for far too long. Now they don’t have to be victims any more, and if some of the thugs get taken out in the process, well, that just saves the taxpayers a lot of money on jail costs.

    • http://www.mototcarsfinancial.com Brad

Possibly but how many crimes did this law abort for the fear the to be victims might be armed and ready to defend him/her self?

    • Pete0097

It sounds like a good law and as soon as I get my FL license, i will carry there as well.

    • http://Aol CommonSense4America

Where is the outcry to OUTLAW ice picks. They are dangerous and leathal.

      • eddie47d

Good point and maybe Zimmerman and Polanco should be tried in court and not given a free pass on the Stand Your Ground law. Both incidences are suspect.

      • 45caliber

Or cars? They kill more people a year than anything I can think of.

      • eddie47d

Are you playing that old song and dance Caliber? Cars aren’t the issue in this case it’s human reaction to threats perceived by Zimmerman and Martin. Even in the other case the perp got out of his car to assult someone.

    • CZ52

As usual eddie is calling for more restrictive gun laws.

    • eliwhit

Your facts are suspect as bogus when you stated that Zimmerman came at martin with a gun or in your words confronted martin with a gun ! This is bogus go back and reread and if you are going to quote facts then do so not your own conjectured, pretried in your mind! Not one article has said that he confronted him with the gun, Not one! He confronted him yes and apparently from the reported article a schuffle ensued whereby Martin broke the nose of Zimmerman and somehow cut the back of his head as well! The schuffle continued with Martin on top of Zimmerman and per the eyewitness report martin was attempting to take the gun from Zimmerman while on the ground and somewhere report does not tell yet that Martin was shot! Now there is a lot of room here for conjecture but lets just wait until it all comes forward and stop jumping the proverbial gun!

I believe we can depend on Angela Corey to bring everything to light. She is a tough lady and only interested in making the streets safe. She has taken some flak about a young child who committed murder but lets consider the alternative of having him free in society to kill your child next. Her predecessor was soft on crime and people with multiple violent crimes were back on the street with (go and sin no more) admonition. We send people to prison to keep the streets safe for the rest of us. When we can go go about our lives safely without being exploited by criminals then we have the proper number of people in jail. Trust Angela Cory to do it right. Sharpton’s dog and pony show will fail as has everything he has tried to instigate before. We still will have the black ku klux klan to contend with. Oh by the was ; this morning’s paper quoted an eye witness who stated Martin was on top of Zimmerman and pounding his head on the pavement when the shooting occurred..The voice for help was Zimmerman not Martin.

    • eddie47d

Oh yes but if someone came after you in civilian clothes with a gun and confronted you in any situation what would you have done? The question should be “did Trayvon have a right to defend himself against his assumed attacker?)

      • Pete0097

I would ask a question like “Who are you and why are you chasing me?” With my response being ” I am visiting my parents” Followed up with “Do you want to escort me there?” But no, we don’t know about any of these obvious questions. That is the “tribal knowledge” that I try to teach my children. It may save their lives. An remember, no matter if the person is good or bad, if they have a gun, they are “right” It is no fun being dead, but right.

      • 45caliber

        eddie:

Where do you get the idea that Zimmerman was waving a gun at Martin? I seriously doubt that Martin or anyone else would try to slip back to attack Zimmerman as Martin did. Instead, they would be running. I’m certainly not going to attempt to challenge anyone waving a gun, even if I have a gun myself. I’m fairly certain that if Martin had realized Zimmerman had a gun, he’d have run. And I would bet that would have been the end of the entire affair. In fact, I’d seriously doubt if ANYONE with any sense would have stopped to challenge anyone waving a gun in the air.

      • eddie47d

Why would anyone want a concealed weapons permit if they aren’t willing to use it? Some of you want everyone to be armed so let’s put that into the equation. Would it be better if Trayvon had a permit and shot back at him to kind of even out the score. That would have made great headlines! Once again did Trayvon have a right to defend himself against a suspected civilian attacker?

    • eliwhit

ajax, who the heck is angela corey, I missed something or slept on that one and I read the witness report early this morning as in about 3 AM eastern, I know you missed something for they were not on pavement but grass as Zimmermans back was grass stained and wet per police report. He had a broken nose and bleeding profusely plus he had a large wound on the back of his head that I would be willing to bet he got hit with the dring can that poor little martin had in hand!~ But there are questions left to be answered! Was Zimmerman verbally harassing and why did Zimmerman disobey 911 dispatch and follow!? Were they still in the same neighborhood!

      • anonymous

he did not disobey 911 dispatch, he agreed with them and stopped

The way I see it (from what I have heard on the news) is that this young, innocent child, Trayvon was walking down the street one evening (I saw the picture of him and he really looks young for his age) and here comes this Zimmerman beast (I saw his picture too and he looks like a killer). The released 911 call tells us Zimmerman is on the hunt (I know this because I watch Crime and Punishment on TV and I also heard Shep Smith on Fox News going nuts when the story broke) and he proceeds to gun down Trayvon for no reason whatsoever. Case over. (Except there was another 911 caller who says somebody was hollerin “Help” and it might have been Zimmerman – but that’s beside the point.) Case over. Somebody get a rope.

  • Robert Nielson

Why don’t we all cast judgement before the case is tried. All the evidence has not been released. Everyone in the media is so quick to conclude the case. It is horrible what happened. Don’t make things worse rushing to judgement. Al Sharpton, would you rush to judgement if a white kid was killed, and a blackman had the gun?

    • Robert Smith

Question asked: “Al Sharpton, would you rush to judgement if a white kid was killed, and a blackman had the gun?”

I don’t know about Al Sharpton but the Philly police sure has tied up another black man and Marine in Philadelphia.

For the full story google Johnathan Lowe. That is the Marine’s name. He’s black. Maybe that’s why he isn’t allowed to protect himself.

      Rob

    • eddie47d

Some like to blame the Liberal media or Al Sharpton or whoever. Michelle Malkin a far right wing writer came out with the claim that Trayvon’s picture on a Facebook page had him holding up his middle finger. Trouble is it wasn’t a picture of Trayvon. So who is flaming the fire and stirring the pot?

    • eliwhit

Heck if it were a white kid he would not get out from in front of his television to answer the phone. furthermore if Zimmerman had died (hispanic) they would be trying to bet the black boy off with whitey should not have had a gun that blackie could get too!
So tough luck for whitey and get em black boys way to go! This is one for the good guys would be the sharpton line possibly!

  • http://johnwis.wordpress.com johnwis

    This isn’t a “race” crime…or a “hate” crime.

Most Americans are not buying either argument.

For those that are trying to promote this as a crime of “race” or “hate”…….where was the outrage of the white kid who was attacked by two black kids in K.C.?

    • Andrew C

Yea, Its very strange how the media just seems to “miss” those stories and make such a big deal about “racist event”.

    • eliwhit

This is obamites trying to get him on the forefront of the poor black boy that was killed! to hell with and disregard all facts lets just run with and bolster up the Deck of Race cards! Chunk them out there and watch the blood and carnage that may come from it! More leftist stirring the pot!

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003034360632 Schillie Young

i very much agree with you. latey it seems that people have been trying to up the raceist card and this site was first one that said anyting not to make out like the shooter wasn’t a bigoted white male geting off scott-free.

    • eliwhit

Haven’t you heard Just ask the mongrel loving charles moore, Whites only are Racist, Whites only can commit hate Crimes, Whites only cannot act in self defense, White Hispanics cannot take self defense actions, and they are required to just stand or lay their and die from being assaulted! This part of the equation has never gotten into the Race baiter charles moores head as he is steady trying to convict the man for chasing him down and shooting him and that is not what happened! charles moore cannot read nor comprehend english! All he knows is that his bias does not count only folks like me who have had enough are bigots, well so be it charles are you a baiting wiggar or the ole term -iggar or are you just as was shown from innocent little Trayvons own communications processes which have been made public a nigga? Just askin which are you charles?

  • l. m. reiher

the photo is absurd! the individual clearly has NO training in gun handling. the fact that the safety is OFF is acceptable. what is NOT ACCEPTABLE is that the holder is about to shoot himself in the ass. he has his finger ON the trigger BEFORE he has drawn the weapon and acquired his target. that is a potentially DEADLY mistake. another case of a picture simply being used to incite opinion against carrying a gun and having NO relevance to the associated story. UPI should be chastised for its bias.

    • ajax

The hammer is down and it won’t fire until it is pulled back.

      • pro-shooter

Wow Alex, I ask that you do not stand in front of my .45 auto because it is double action on the first round. (about a 6 pound trigger pull) Plus with the safety off, the hammer block is disengaged, thereby allowing it to go bang if dropped on the hammer.

      • Thor

The firearm pictured–if it is not the Berretta Model 92, is one of the knock-offs–has been de-cocked but is a double-action pistol and the man’s finger seems to be inside the trigger guard…giving rise to the astute observation that he just may remap his posterior via firearm discharge if he isn’t careful.

      • eliwhit

Wrong ajax! 2 means could fire this gun in the process of pulling it out 1) pulling the trigger if it is a double action semi-automatic! 2)If he were to accidentally half snag the hammer and drop it while pulling it out of the belt line it is possible it will fire with less than a full drop of the hammer! Many guns with a chambered round if dropped and it hits on the hammer hard enough will fire unless it is a newer model with the hammer slid safety in addition to the locking safety in this case the locking safety is off so hammer drop is possible!

      • eliwhit

Thor: I love your description of remapping his posterrior! Now would that be a sight or what!?

    • Fred

You beat me to it! I saw this and the first thing I saw was the red dot indicating the safety was off and his finger on the trigger. Just what we need to inflame the anti-gun nuts.

  • http://ccopakeman.wordpress.com copakeman

eric holder will ride his in to put Mr. Zimmerman away in prison for a very long ting time. our contry cannot let a white/hipanic/black/other get away scott free with shooting and killing an innocent 17 year old black child,an A+ student at school (i am guessing), who attacks you, walking down the street in a high crime area at 3am.

be worried Mr Zimmerman, e holder will get you if the “new black panthers” dont get you first.

    • John

Apparently the kid was not as innocent as his parents have made him out to be. The news reported this morning that he was suspended the week before for having traces of marijuana in his backpack, and an eyewitness has claimed the kid was on top of Zimmerman beating the crap out of him.

      • Honestly

John…It could be the boy was scared because he was being followed and was defending himself.

      • Vicki

        Honestly says:

John…It could be the boy was scared because he was being followed and was defending himself.

I don’t think that being followed is a sufficient threat as to justify beating someone in “defense.”

      • Honestly

Vicki, I’m very curious, How would you respond if you were minding your own business and someone was following you in this day and time with the way things are?

      • Honestly

Si then you MUST not believe that shooting someone for hitting you is acceptable?

      • Vicki

        Honestly says:

Vicki, I’m very curious, How would you respond if you were minding your own business and someone was following you in this day and time with the way things are?

I would lead them to the nearest policeman or police station of course. What would you do? Confront them and try and beat them up?

      • Honestly

I would run. I am smart enough to know that I am no match for them, but I for sure would not try to take them anywhere. That is dangerous talk.

      • Vicki

        Honestly says:

        I would run.

Then you would just die tired.
        http://www.kens5.com/video/yahoo-video/Alleged-Mexican-Mafia-shooter-140794073.html
And that is just one of MANY examples. One of the victims even had a gun but chose to run away.

I am smart enough to know that I am no match for them, but I for sure would not try to take them anywhere. That is dangerous talk.

Yes running would be dangerous talk. Here is another example.

Obviously you just want to argue and I choose not to, so I will not respond to your posts again. May God bless you…

      • eliwhit

Some folks like vickie and charles moore do not want to hear or see the facts! Checked out your links hope they all stay in the California area. Who needs that! How much has obama touched on these issues?

      • Charles Moore

The only one here that doesn’t want to see the facts are you and your defenders. I could care less. You are a racist and a bigot and i have detailed it in several posts. You also lack common sense and are incapable of drawing conclusions since you can’t use common sense and get from point “A” to point “B”,When called on it then the best you can do is whining and name calling.

      • Vicki

        eliwhit says:

Some folks like vickie and charles moore do not want to hear or see the facts!

You would have to have some facts (and bring them) before you could begin to determine if we do or do not want to hear or see “the facts”. I did happen to bring some facts with me and posted the links.

      • eliwhit

so you did so you did! My bad!

      • absolutely amazed

Just do it the right way – get the facts, go to trial, evaluate the evidence, and then decide whether it was murder or just justifiable homicide. But whatever the “perceived threat” laws were supposed to do, if anybody is killed, there must be a very careful investigation of the facts at hand – not what was and has been done in the Travon Martin/Zimmerman catastrophe. Otherwise there will continue to be a lot of murders/killings/manslaughters or what have you because someone was wearing ” “different” clothes or looking at someone crosseyed. Sounds like the South in the days before 1964. Pretty soon, with the perceived threat laws, what used to be playground scuffles will result in homicides. Our nation has never been cultured, was on the road to becoming civilized, but is now retreating into mere settlement. We’d better start talking rather than screaming and then shooting, or we are all goners, whether we carry AK 47′s, bazookas, simple 9mm sidearms, pocket change, or iced tea and Skittles.

      • http://madgorilla.wordpress.com madgorilla

This is a perfect example of why we need people in office who have an historical perspective and can see context. The problems we have today, like the Martin case, are the result of 100 years of progressive ideology. As we get pushed farther and farther to the left, political correctness and class warfare become the norm, and common sense, reason, and conservatism become the aberrations.

Back in the days went everybody went armed, you thought twice or three times before doing something. Caution and common sense ruled the day to day interactions between people. We didn’t coddle those who transgressed against society. Prison was a place that was so horrible, most hard core outlaws fought it out with the law rather than go back. A man’s word was his bond, and honor was more important than anything else.

To be sure, there were things that were bad in those days (like treatment of minorities), but that was not just an American problem, it was a world problem. I think we’ve made a lot of progress since then, but the farther we slip to the left now, the more I fear we are losing that progress. Instead of striking a note of calm and reason, the President added fuel to the fire. Instead of prosecuting those who offered a bounty for Zimmerman, the Justice Dept. pretended that was never said.

This incident is just a small bump in the road that has been churned into a chasm that is swallowing every bit of reason in sight. It is a tiny wound that is being allowed to fester that if not cleansed, will lead to gangrene. This could be the pinprick that finally starts a race war that some people in this country have been working at for a very long time. If it starts, it will spread like wildfire. I imagine the Roman empire was very much like this in its final days. Is that what we really want to happen?

      • Charles Moore

You are absolutely correct. Many people here don’t seem to understand that just because the 17 year old was not exactly innocent that Zimmerman gets a free pass. These people need to look up the definition of “neighborhood”. I have lived in my present Florida neighborhood for over 32 years and I do not know everybody in it or the Florida neighborhood before this one and they are all single family homes. The Zimmerman neighborhood has apartments in it with hundreds of people . There is no way that he could know everybody that lived in it much less people who were just visiting from elsewhere. This is why such patrols are discouraged even if unarmed. The fact that Zimmerman was armed magnifies it.

    • http://johnwis.wordpress.com johnwis

Sorry…but it’s not that cut and dry.

I’m not going to take it as Martin being all innocent in the situation……nor am I going to take that Zimmerman is all guilty….nor vise-versa.

The MSM has already begun court proceedings without the court or thorough investigation. The investigation will reveal the truth about what happened.

      • eliwhit

john you are so right. And be advised that my below post was not aimed at you or your post but at the idiot copakeman at the beginning of this article postings! This dumb system put it out of order even though it was a reply to copakeman the marvelous one!

    • eliwhit

Have you lost your mind or are you just plain stupid? First he was not white, but hispanic. Which just tell me you are one of the either threateners with no backbone or you are an imbecile that never made it past 3rd grade! Innocense has yet to be proven with the light of the witness that gave report to the police that they left out pending further investigation or the writer in an original attempt to stir up morons like you!! Next, Oh yeah sure he was an A+ student alright! He was on school suspension for having drug paggie in his locker and had been in trouble for having burglary tools at school in the past! You bet that is your basic A+ student alright And you are an Albert Einstein! e holder the murderer will likely keep his nose out of this one as he is in enough hot water looking at possibility of prosecution himself! And the gang of thugs you mentioned that are showing themselves to be stupid as you are had best back off for their blood may run red in the Florida Streets if they bring it. They have no authority of law and they will be arrested for multiple violations of the Law. So stop trying to stir up garbage when you obviously did not read past the first article! Have someone take notes for you if you are unable to keep up clown!

      • Charles Moore

I live in Florida about 160 miles from Sanford.I also have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. We are not allowed to display it for intimidation etc. We are on;y allowed to draw it if you are another are in imminent and fatal danger. Being so close to Sanford we get all the News . First of all, most neighborhood watches do not have patrols. They send out brochures encouraging people to report suspicious behavior and what to watch for as well as giving Emergency numbers. They also post signs stating that it is an active neighborhood watch area. The people in these patrols do not have any more power than any other citizen. The Police also discourage this people on patrol from carrying a weapon if they have a permit.Zimmerman has been cited for aggressive behavior in the past. He should have not been allowed a gun permit. He was also told by the Police dispatcher to cease following him and he disregarded it. Zimmerman claims he was following him which means that he was in back of him. Zimmerman also claims that the victim had his hands in his waist band etc. Please explain to me how Zimmerman could see in front of the victim while behind him.

It might be that the victim was not innocent etc.The New Black Panthers have offered a $10,000 reward for the capture of Zimmerman. How many clowns are going to be out there trying to collect it?. How many innocent people will be caught in the middle?.The race baiters Jackson and Sharpton do not belong here. The Brady Bunch should stay in D.C where Guns were banned and yet it had the highest crime rate. The Media based outside Florida is also down trying to stir up things. All because Zimmerman who should have had his permit taken away from him and disregarded advice not to follow him.It is not an example of “stand your ground” when you follow the person and create the situation.

If I am in a store and somebody pulls a gun then I have to do something at that moment. If he turns and flees then I am not allowed to shoot him since there is no imminent danger. If Zimmerman was responsible then he would know all of the above. He disregarded it it just as he disregarded the advice not to follow and the advice of Police not to carry a weapon on patrol. I wish that people who have little knowledge of the facts but feel some sense of self importance and the need to comment.

      • metalflyer11

“eliwhit” I would like you to explain me since when is “hispanic” considered a race?
I need an answer better than a 3rd grader.

      • Paul

so now we get caught up in symantics, what do you want hear, hispanic, latino, or must we get really precise like, puerto rican, quatemalan, nicoruagaun, costa rican, honduran, cuban, and then what about african american, rediculous, since they have no clue about which country in africa they are from. Why don’t we call ourselves Irish american, or british american, or german american, or french amercian,,, How about american regardless of color. Again, making this a color issue. Someone getting killed is the issue regardless of race. If it was a black killing a black, there would be no news here. Let’s get the facts and stop the race baiting and bounty hunting. Blacks don’t want a race fight with hispanics in florida, unless they are plain stupid. People behind the scenes provoking this entire thing, wake up people, slow down, stop the hate.

    • Seanoamericano

Quite simple Zimmerman was doing his job checking out a suspicious person lurking around at 11:30 Pm behind a house in a gated community with a high crime rate. So whats the crime reports now I bet they dropped way off. If he was so innocent then publish a current photo or would that ruin the 14 year old spin. Along with charging that b movie hack wannabe director along with the NBC for editing the tapes That would be justice.

      • Charles Moore

Where are you getting your information. I love about 150 miles from the area and get all the local News. The kid wasn’t lurking anywhere. There is video of Martin in the store buying things and causing no problems. Zimmerman was driving in his SUV and saw Martin walking and stopped his car and got out and followed Martin Zimmerman had no right to do do. Zimmerman was outside his community and has no police powers anyplace. I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Florida. You are not allowed to display your weapon or even show it n a threatening manner unless your life or the life of somebody else is in imminent danger. If it would have been me and I thought something was suspicious then I would have phoned the Police and left the area or observed at a distance until there was a problem. Zimmerman is a wannabe clown who showed bad judgement. The fact that Zimmerman and his wife lied about their finances at the first bail hearing proves he is not credible. You had gullible and naive people that had contributed money for his defense in the amount of $155,000.00. They split the money among themselves and relatives and paid of other bills and then claimed they were broke at the first bail hearing. Zimmerman turned in a Passport he claimed had been lost and kept the one that replaced it.His own Lawyers admitted he was untruthful but wouldn’t do ti again. The facts that his defense fund is still getting thousands of dollars a day proves the ignorance of people. If I had given money and found out that this clowns were using the money for their own personal gains then I would be upset.
