Agricultural Terrorism

Agricultural Terrorism
PHOTOS.COM
Monsanto is the largest producer of genetically engineered seeds.

Monsanto should be named an enemy of the State. It’s definitely an enemy of the people. Instead, the company has essentially become another branch of government.

Monsanto is engaged in government-sponsored agricultural terrorism. It’s government-sponsored because there is a revolving door between the company, the Food and Drug Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and firms that lobby Congress on Monsanto’s behalf. Dow, Bayer, other chemical companies and Big Agriculture are Monsanto’s co-conspirators in agricultural terrorism.

In addition to contaminating our food supply with pesticides, hormones and genetic modifications, water supplies are being contaminated as well — even for those who live in the city far away from farmland. And anyone trying to grow crops uncontaminated by Monsanto’s genetically engineered (GE) frankenseeds can be slapped with a lawsuit if the prevailing winds or pollinating insects cause pollen from Monsanto-patented crops to mingle with non-Monsanto GE crops.

The Union of Concerned Scientists recently listed eight ways Monsanto fails at being a good steward of food and moves over to food and environmental terrorism:

  1. Promoting pesticide resistance: Monsanto’s Roundup Ready and Bt technologies lead to resistant weeds and insects that can make farming harder and reduce sustainability. The idea is, supposedly, to create crops that ward off insects and other pests. But the result has been to create insects that are pesticide-resistant. And even worse, application of systemic pesticides like Dow Chemical’s Clothianidin or GE crops that kill “pests” are behind the deaths of hundreds of thousands of honeybee colonies through colony collapse disorder. In almost every case, the EPA and/or FDA ignored science or used junk science to justify approval of the chemicals and crops.
  2. Increasing herbicide use: Roundup resistance has led to greater use of herbicides, with troubling implications for biodiversity, sustainability and human health. By planting crops engineered to be resistant to herbicides, farmers are able, in theory, to keep down weeds by spraying increasing amounts of herbicides. But these toxic chemicals are finding their way into our foods and contaminating our water supplies. Roundup’s key ingredient, glyphosate, is also linked to a decrease in the monarch butterfly population by killing the plants butterflies rely on for habitat and food. Roundup is also linked to the spread of fusarium head blight in wheat, which makes the crop unsuitable for human or animal consumption. Now we also know that use of these herbicides has created “super weeds” that have developed a resistance to Roundup. So Monsanto and Dow are combining to reintroduce the use of the herbicide 2, 4-D, one-half of the defoliant Agent Orange used in Vietnam. Agent Orange is a carcinogen that caused Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia and other diseases in Vietnam veterans.
  3. Spreading gene contamination: Engineered genes have a bad habit of turning up in non-GE crops. When this happens, sustainable farmers — and their customers — pay a high price. In other words, GE crops are contaminating the crops of those who want to use natural or heirloom seeds and eat and grow foods the way God intended. There is no way of telling what long-term ramifications of these contaminated crops will have on the foods we eat – and, therefore, our health. Plus, as we mentioned above, small farmers are being attacked in courts by Monsanto if their crops — through no fault of their own — become contaminated by Monsanto GE crops. According to a report released by Britain’s Soil Association, GE crops have cost Americans $12 billion in farm subsidies in the past three years and is bankrupting wheat and cotton farmers.
  4. Expanding monoculture: Monsanto’s emphasis on limited varieties of a few commodity crops contributes to reduced biodiversity and, as a consequence, to increased pesticide use and fertilizer pollution. Monoculture, the planting of a single crop on large swaths of land, is anathema to nature. Everyone knows that crops must be rotated to keep the soil properly balanced. Different plants that bloom and pollinate at different times are essential to sustain the nourishment needed by many insects, birds and animals. Yet Monsanto, Dow and huge corporate farms disavow the laws of nature for profit, and the environment suffers. Monoculture also provides a vast feeding ground that attracts ever-stronger pests, creating a cycle of increased use of pesticides to combat the problem created by the use of monoculture and more pesticides. And when the pests, as in the case of the corn rootworm develop a resistance to the engineered pesticide, they can wipe out thousands of acres of crops, driving up food prices and causing food shortages.
  5. Marginalizing alternatives: Monsanto’s single-minded emphasis on GE fixes for farming challenges may come at the expense of cheaper, more effective solutions. Relying on genetic engineering to fix the problem creates more problems while limiting natural or less expensive solutions.
  6. Lobbying and advertising: Monsanto outspends all other agribusinesses on efforts to persuade Congress and the public to maintain the industrial agriculture status quo. Worse, as noted above, it has become a revolving door that sees members of Congress passing to the company to become executives and lobbyists, and company executives moving to the regulatory agencies to regulate their former employer. This is simply crony capitalism at its worst.
  7. Suppressing research: By creating obstacles to independent research on its products, Monsanto makes it harder for farmers and policy makers to make informed decisions that can lead to more sustainable agriculture. And through its system of crony capitalism, research benefitting the company — even when fraudulent — is approved by the regulatory agencies, while natural alternatives are suppressed or outlawed altogether. Independent organizations attempting to provide a rebuttal to the flawed research are often quashed and silenced.
  8. Falling short on feeding the world: Monsanto contributes little to helping the world feed itself, and has failed to endorse science-backed solutions that don’t give its products a central role. In fact, what Monsanto is doing is acquiring a state-sponsored monopoly on seeds. GE crops create non-renewable seeds that do not germinate from year to year. This requires the farmer to go back to Monsanto each year to purchase the seeds for the next year’s crop, rather than saving seeds and using seeds from last year’s crop (using the seed corn). This also happens to farmers using heirloom seeds whose crops are contaminated by GE crop pollen.

The European Union has mandated labeling of GM ingredients in food and feed. But that doesn’t happen in the United States, and efforts are afoot to prevent special labeling. But evidence shows that exposure to GE plants and GM feed affects food animals in many ways.

What all this means is that even with the knowledge and desire to avoid GE or GM foods, as the Monsantos and Dows of the world gain more of a hold on world agriculture, it’s going to eventually become impossible to avoid exposure to them. Even planting your own garden with heirloom seeds won’t guarantee you the ability to avoid genetic pollution if someone nearby is using GE crops and pollinators cross pollinate the fields or winds blow the pollen into your garden and it pollinates your crop.

And pesticides and GE and GM foods are being linked to myriad negative health effects including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, obesity, diabetes and hormonal disorders. The insecticide-producing Bt gene is even being detected in the blood tests of people who eat a typical diet, including in pregnant women and their fetuses. Research shows it also kills human kidney cells.

Fascism is the union of government and big business. In this system, the people are pawns. Government, Big Agriculture and their partners in crime Monsanto, Dow and Bayer are engaged in a fascist system in which an unwitting populace is kept fat and stupid and without choices, and even those who understand and recognize the system for what it is are allowed fewer opportunities to opt out.

These are who the War on Terror should truly be against. And thanks to global activism and the growth of the Internet and advent of social media, the war on the real terrorists is gaining headway against their war on our health.

We can battle agricultural terrorism on our own by minding what we are buying and eating.  When you grocery shop, refuse to buy GMO products. Many food producers are now labeling their non-GMO foods as such. You can also use the “Non-GMO Shopping Guide,” available for download here.

    This is sad….
The Russian newspaper, Pravda (English Edition), lamenting America ‘s descent into Marxism…
American capitalism gone without a whimper
    27.04.2009
    Source: Pravda.Ru
It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Socialism/Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people.
True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Socialists/Marxists.
Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters.
First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their “right” to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our “democracy”. Pride blindeth the foolish.
Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different “branches and denominations” were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the “winning” side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the “winning” side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America .
The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America ‘s short history but in the world. If this keeps up for more then another year, and there is no sign that it will not, America at best will resemble the Wiemar Republic and at worst Zimbabwe.
These past two weeks have been the most breath taking of all. First came the announcement of a planned redesign of the American Byzantine tax system, by the very thieves who used it to bankroll their thefts, loses and swindles of hundreds of billions of dollars. These make our Russian oligarchs look little more then ordinary street thugs, in comparison. Yes, the Americans have beat our own thieves in the sheer volumes. Should we congratulate them?
These men, of course, are not an elected panel but made up of appointees picked from the very financial oligarchs and their henchmen who are now gorging themselves on trillions of American dollars, in one bailout after another. They are also usurping the rights, duties and powers of the American congress (parliament). Again, congress has put up little more then a whimper to their masters.
Then came Barack Obama’s command that GM’s (General Motor) president step down from leadership of his company. That is correct, dear reader, in the land of “pure” free markets, the American president now has the power, the self given power, to fire CEOs and we can assume other employees of private companies, at will. Come hither, go dither, the centurion commands his minions.
So it should be no surprise, that the American president has followed this up with a “bold” move of declaring that he and another group of unelected, chosen stooges will now redesign the entire automotive industry and will even be the guarantee of automobile policies. I am sure that if given the chance, they would happily try and redesign it for the whole of the world, too. Prime Minister Putin, less then two months ago, warned Obama and UK’s Blair, not to follow the path to Marxism, it only leads to disaster. Apparently, even though we suffered 70 years of this Western sponsored horror show, we know nothing, as foolish, drunken Russians, so let our “wise” Anglo-Saxon fools find out the folly of their own pride.
Again, the American public has taken this with barely a whimper…but a “freeman’s” whimper.
So, should it be any surprise to discover that the Democratically controlled Congress of America is working on passing a new regulation that would give the American Treasury department the power to set “fair” maximum salaries, evaluate performance and control how private companies give out pay raises and bonuses? Senator Barney Franks, a social pervert basking in his homosexuality (of course, amongst the modern, enlightened American societal norm, as well as that of the general West, homosexuality is not only not a looked down upon life choice, but is often praised as a virtue) and his Marxist enlightenment, has led this effort. He stresses that this only affects companies that receive government monies, but it is retroactive and taken to a logical extreme, this would include any company or industry that has ever received a tax break or incentive.
The Russian owners of American companies and industries should look thoughtfully at this and the option of closing their facilities down and fleeing the land of the Red as fast as possible. In other words, divest while there is still value left.
The proud American will go down into his slavery with out a fight, beating his chest and proclaiming to the world, how free he really is. The world will only snicker.

I predict Civil war within 6 months.

Obama and cronies know it too, they are preparing.

To all whom have sons, daughters, or fathers and mothers in the US Military,

Call them, write them, email them, speak to them and tell them:

Yes Sarge , I am sure they would notice having lived it . But when you elect a Marxist you get Marxism/ Communism , call it what you will . It would seem that everyone but Obama , the Democrats , the Liberal Left Wingers et al got the Memo . Communism , Marxism , Socialism doesn’t work . It has never worked anywhere it was instituted . The system on paper is wonderful , makes for good rhetoric but as for working ? Perhaps for a short term to keep a dictator or ruling class in luxury for a period but never to any great length .
Now they want to dictate what we eat and grow . I suppose if we can’t be controlled if we aren’t hungry because we grow our own .

Proverbs 16:18 (KJV) – “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Sarge, I’m tired’ I had a rough day, it’s becoming an effort to hold my eyes open. When I saw the length of your post, I thought no, I’m goin’ to bed. But something told me it was going to be a good post. It was a most excellent post!!! I’m so glad that I didn’t go to bed! Blow the bugle Sarge!

The Marxist idea of the law, as officially defined by the Soviet Union in 1938: “Law is a combination of the rules of behavior established or sanctioned by state authority, reflecting the will of the ruling class – rules of behavior whose application is assured by the coercive power of the state for the purpose of protecting, strengthening and developing relationships and procedures suitable and beneficial to the ruling class.”

“We are free today substantially, but the day will come when our republic will come to impossibility because it’s wealth will be concentrated in the hands of a few. When that day comes, then we must rely upon the wisdom of the best elements in the country to readjust the laws of the nation to the changed conditions.”

America has Gestapo organisations just like Nazi Germany. It will not be very long until all natural foods will be outlawed. Anyone wishing to have their own garden will be required to get permission from the storm troopers at FDA, TSA and EPA. The other commodities that are sure to be outlawed are vitamins and natural supplements. The medical profession along with Big Pharma does not want anyone to be healthy. After all, if everyone was healthy, where would the trillions of dollars come from to support the drug companies. However, to the rescue will come the government thugs to enforce the new laws that were passed when obamacare came into existence. No one yet knows all the new laws and regulations that will be imposed on the American people that were included in obamacare.

    • Old Sarge

The Food Safety Act signed during the Lame Duck session is the one that talks more about personal gardens. A lot of Republicans voted for it too.

    • Tom W.

Hey Dagger, you mean kinda like the city of Houston’s new ordinance making it illegal for street ministries to feed the homeless without a special permit which costs $250?! And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, because if the food isn’t prepared in a Health Dept. inspected kitchen, you have NO chance of getting a permit! The city of Philadelphia (The city of BROTHERLY LOVE!) has recently passed a similar ordinance!!! Guess what party both mayors belong to?!!

Chemicals and Chemical Fertlizers do not produce more – they actually cause short term growth and then long term loss as they damage the soil.

We can grow so much more food utilizing organic methods. The Rodale institute has done many studies on organic vs conventional and the stats are there on their website for anyone to see. Organic outperforms Conventional and it doesn’t harm the environment.
Some intensive organic methods can grow 2- 6 times more food than conventional….but guess what cause a big agricorp isn’t behind it you’ll never hear about it.

There are many forms of sustainable agriculture – bio-intensive, permaculture, agroforestry, biodynamic, are just some to name a few….we are learning the science behind these successful methods as we go on.

The “Green revolution” really only helped with short term gains – all the countries are having problems now that were bullied into using gmo seeds and chemical fertlizers.
Most of them are importing food. The few farms that are doing well in their countries are guess what – Organic.

I work on a farm and study farming…and i can tell you that tilling is passe (no till is the way to go), crop rotations, cover crops, composting, either via the sheet method or in a pile, companion planting, permaculture, the wave of the future will be urban/local farming – it will be organic or close to it and it will take into account the local environment.
It will be a net producer as it used to be in the past vs a net loss as it is now. (when you consider all the inputs – machinery, chemicals $, fertilizers$)

People think you need a lot of acreage to grow food – it just isn’t so…everytime i drive by a lawn i look at it as if it’s a big wasteland….it could at least have fruit trees, flowers and attract bees and hummingbirds etc…so much boring wasted shrubbery.

If you want to give me your email I can email you some links and data or maybe Bob would be willing to post on his site. I have a lot of scholarly research and links i’m willing to share.

Most excellent. I studied french intensive gardening years ago. Would like very much to share this info with you. Excellent links…spot on.

    • Christin

      Suzette,

Very informative sites… thanks for sharing.

Someone should show this video and article to American people as many or most do not know how to grow food nor do they all understand organic versus chemical.

Could be a great city program to teach gardening on empty lots or containers for healthy organic food… if only the neighborhood people would respect the garden and the work that went into it and not damage it… all could share who help.

    • Tom W.

Great post Suzette!!! Thank you hon!

Lobo You have four years on me, but I still will venture an opinion different from yours. You are equating quantity with quality. You produce more, but is it as nutritious? The chances are good that it is not. Why, because many of our hybridized versions look beautiful but the way they taste is lacking. Try supermarket tomatoes for example. They make better tennis balls. Try the hybrid corn. Have you had carboard with sugar sprinkled on it?
Then, if you were to economize to save seed for the next year, the seed may not germinate and if it did, you could wind up in court because they’ve copyrighted good old mother nature. If it happened, as in India, the seed you bought from Monsanto did not produce well, you’re still stuck with the bill and no way to pay it and no way to get more seed. You’re bankrupt and guess who’s right there to buy your land and turn you into a sharecropper?
Big, corporate business has one goal before all others: get bigger to establish a monopoly,
Smaller organic farms will not make you a millionaire overnight. But they’re more bio-diverse, healthier, and more sustainable. Don’t sell your time honored techniques for “easy” pesticides, herbicides, and patented hybrids. Sooner or later, you’ll be sorry.

    • Karolyn

Never mind taste, our soil is so depleted that the fruits and vegetables don’t even have the nutrition they used to. So much for chemical fertilizers.

      • independant thinker

Nothing wrong with chemical fertilizers. When used properly in small amounts they can help overcome temporary deficiencies in your soil. The problem comes with the massive use of them with no effort to improve the soil quality but rather just depend on the chemical fertilizer. When I first started my garden where I live now it was pure red clay. If I hadn’t used chem fertilizer the first couple of years i wouldn’t have had a crop. Over time I have built up the soil with added topsoil, compost, mulch, manure, etc. and now I need very little or no commercial fertilizer.

      • John

I don’t use any fertilizers or chemicals in my garden, but that takes planing, crop rotation and more planing. Pests can be controlled by planting the right combinations…of course this is impractical for large commercial farms… and one can taste the difference by eating the produce. I started my garden 3 years before I even planted one item. I got horse manure, cow manure and composts by the wagon loads and plowed it in in the fall so that the frost in winter could break open the minerals and kill of the bad bacteria… now, I am self sustaining and composting all my left over plant materials for use. It can be done, but its hard work.. I am planing on doing it til the day I die.. it keeps me fit and healthy.

      • Christin

        Independent Thinker,

You don’t have to use Synthetic Chemical Fertilizers.

You can use Natural Alternatives to nourish your soil:

        Bone Meal for phosphates
        Blood Meal for Nitrogen
Ash from wood burn pit (no trash) for potash

and of course, manure and compost.

This year instead of Miracle Grow which is synthetic, I bought Nature’s Creation Organics Quick Dissolve Plant food (powder) with Mycorrhizal Fungi (Made in the USA) for my fruit trees and garden beds.

      Huh?!!

First, I am a 70 year old Missouri semi retired farmer. Monsanto is only supplying a capitalistic demand for worldwide food. I have no desire to return to my youth with 70 bushel corn and 20 bushel beans when I can now raise 200 bushel corn and 60 bushel beans on the same farm with much less erosion damage than the 1950s. I have no desire to hand weed in 100 degree sun. You are whining with the safeist cheapest food in the world.

    • Christin

That’s great lobo… YOU get paid ….and WE die eating GMO… or at the very least can’t have babies anymore.

      • Tom W.

What the hell does he care Christin?! His response reminds me of King Hezekiah in the Bible!
“And Hezekiah hearkened unto them, and shewed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not. Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country, even from Babylon. And he said, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All the things that are in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. And Isaiah said unto Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD. Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?” – II Kings 20:13-19 (KJV)

If you were having to hand weed you weren’t farming correctly in the first place.
      Monoculture causes weeds….
People think organic is all about hard work – it actually can take less inputs when you do it properly!

Suzette, I like your comment. I don’t plant large plots but I do have pretty good gardens and I found it’s easier to mulch than it is to weed although some weeding always seems necessary. Like you suggest I start by working on them when they are small and easy to eliminate. I also found that some crops, like my corn, could be planted early enough to eliminate pest problems. I started the seeds indoors early and transplanted them after the danger of frost.
I’m going to try a NO TilLL garden, that is essentially a giant pot, so to speak, about fifteen foot on a side where you plant many things close to each other and that you allow some to go to seed where it’ll reseed itself. The different plants create a kind of bio zone that tends to exclude unwanted plants and that also is supposed to confuse pests as there isn’t a giant area of mono crop to attract them. I hope it works.
People need to get dirt on them. I understand there are certain types of bacteria that naturally occur in the dirt that are friendly to us and that even help to stimulate the production of certain hormones in us that give us feelings of pleasure or satisfaction. Maybe that’s why I like to garden?
The bottom line to me is that if more people grew at least some of what they eat that it would reduce our dependence on companies like Monsanto. Say no to Monsanto and grow your own.

      • Tom W.

Excellent posts ladies, thank you! Just assuming that you’re a female Katrael, if not, my bad!

    • John

Lobo, If it is so safe, how come many countries in this world have banned the import of it? They don’t even permit import of meat and poultry that has been fed with it.
Yes you produce a lot more, but it is nutritional inferior, the taste is bland and it hardly has any minerals in it because your soil is in essence sterile without the chemicals you use. And only people like you and Monsanto and its cronies say it is safe,

      • Tom W.

Lobo, the technology exists for robots to weed, and collect insects from farms, using no weed killer or insect poisons.

Having carried a pesticide License for 15 years, I wouldn’t be too ready to blame the pesticide companies over the issues, which are absolutely correct. The EPA has had a near Dictatorial roll over the Pesticide industries for for close to 40 years now. And it was their Dictatorial Edicts, driven by Politics, and Ideology over the last 40 years that has corrupted the Pesticide Industry. Those who played along with them succeeded, those who didn’t wished they had. This is also true with many of our Universities, those fallowed their Ideology got Grants, and those who did not, did not. before the EPA come along you never heard of “pesticide resistance”.

      Robert Button,
As long as Cass Sunstein remains in charge of the EPA, standby, the dictatorial powers of this Czar will run rampant until he is finally removed – permanently. What he has devised and pushed through so far is unbelievable. EPA regulations to an extreme – never before seen on this level. Extremely costly, extremely detrimental to all.

Bob, thanks for reminding people that FASCISM is ‘the union of government and big business.’ Theoretically, we have an army of agencies and groups dedicated to keeping people and birds and bees and cattle and our food supply “safe.”
Would it be asking too much to know what this criminal regime is doing to keep Americans and our food supply safe? Some folks have a terrible time keeping both feet in the real world, so kindly couple that idea with the fact that we are enduring an administration that combines socialism, communism, fascism and utopian schemes.
Add to that mix the fact that tree-huggers, the Sierra herd, PETA and the rest of the usual suspects are busy being pals with Washington. IS ANYONE or any GROUP really on our side? Are there any LAWYERS who give a damn?
If we ever needed a reason to march on Washington and shut down state capitals, this is it, people.
Or, have some coffee and try to go to that safe place in your mind. Change the channel. Uncle Scam to the rescue.
Everything is beautiful – as usual.

I’m truly surprised that it hasn’t happened already s c! I’m ready, R U?!! We need a march on DC, we need a national no-fly day (Or week or more!) to let the TSA know that we’re tired of being treated like terrorism suspects! We need a national no-drive day, week, or more to let big oil know that we’re tired of the gas prices! We need ALL Americans to stop buying products that are made overseas by dehumanized workers, as a matter of fact, to buy only made in the USA products! And I have to say I’m as guilty as anyone, I bought a pair of Black and Decker knoppers at Wal-Mart last week, nine bucks, a bargain! When I got home and looked, made in China! We need to stop!!!

I love to hear the Farm Bureau ads talk about how the farmers are working hard to help the people of America. What I see are farmers working hard to buy up more land and make more money for themselves and their famililies. It is not about helping America; it is about helping themselves. Farming is big, big business and I do not see much poverty on the farms in Kansas. If they are “poor” farmers, it is mainly because they are “poor” managers!!

    • http://gravatar.com/hattles JeffH

Insurgent, come to central California…the farmers are stuggling big time, no thanks to thr co-operation that exists between he envori-extremists and the government…both Federal and State.

Jeff, google search water issues in the central valley and what Barbara Boxer has done. Most people were aware. I do not know how she was re-elected. I believe there must have been voter fraud. Kind of reminds me of the cartoon “Who Killed Roger Rabbit”. Worth renting and watching.

Good posting guys! Barbra was certainly running scared that last election OB1, hell I think she even took a bath for a public speaking engagement, I think!!!

OB1, I live in Fresno, CA…right in the heart of the central valley. To see the result of the 2010 election was very diheatening and frustrating…I, for the most part, have lost total respect for the California voting publicand feel there is no recovery in sight as long as the unions and environmentalists are calling the shots and making the rules in California.

Diane Feinstein is also a major enemy of water for the central valley farmers. I thank GOD I do have a Congressman Devin Nunes representing me though. He very pro-active with the water and jobs problems in the valley.

Did you use the link above about Indian farmers committing suicide?

  • Clint

I agree that the use of chemicals can be hazardous if not used properly. However I am a agriculture producer “farmer” and I can tell you without the advances that we use in producing crops to feed the world there would be great starvation and food shortages now. The yield increases that we seen have made it possible to feed more with less ground. We are stewards of the earth and we feed the world. Advances that are spoken of here keep millions from starving every year.

    • Flashy

      Clint:

The problem is the heavy handed tactics used by Big Ag. For instance…I have friends in Idaho who grow potatoes. They can’t use any other type of potato on the farm, even in their garden. Here’s the eye opener…

Remember when as a kid you could toss a few spuds in the corner of a dark room, then cut out the eyes for seed for the garden? No longer. Big Ag has engineered reproduction out of the spud. Has nothing to do with production…but everything to do with monopolizing the market and forcing the farmer and gardener to buy need seed every year.

Apples. Know one of the most expensive apple trees to buy? Purebreds. Those from seed from the ancient apple trees before cross hybrids and genetics came into being. The ones in the store look nice…but are bland. When i pick an apple from the old 9very old0 apple orchard from the folks farm…they don’t look perfect, but one bite and the explosion of taste in your mouth will show you what they have done.

      • independant thinker

“Remember when as a kid you could toss a few spuds in the corner of a dark room, then cut out the eyes for seed for the garden? No longer. Big Ag has engineered reproduction out of the spud.”

I know from personal experience that is WRONG. I have a short row of potatoes in my garden that came from commercial ones that sprouted in the tater box. They are growing just fine. Every year I usualy have a couple of potatoes we didn’t get eaten in time and they sprout so I plant them and they grow. Commercial potatoes are treated with a retardent to slow the sprouting process but they will sprout eventualy.

Ah Ha. Independent Thinker caught Flushy in another lie.

      • FreedomFighter

Same here Flash, had a bumper crop of taters last year.

BTW taters were my biggest yield crop due to harsh wealther conditions, suggest maybe planting a big patch o taters this year due to weather wierdness. My above ground crops didnt fair nearly as well as below ground ones.

        Just a FYI

      • John

Opal, not really, not all types of potatoes are engineered that way some are just saturated with a chemical that prohibits spouts to form.. it is not 100% effective. But the worse is really that some of the new potatoes that come on the markets will eventually sprout, but will bear NO fruit. So, even if you get them to sprout, and can stick them into the ground , they will have nice leaves and flowers, but at the end of the year you will find no potatoes grown in the ground. It was a very rude awakening for my neighbor last year…

      • Opal the Gem

John you obviously did not read Independent’s post. He clearly stated he has had good luck planting commercial potatoes that had sprouted in his potato box. He also mentioned the growth retardent.

Hi Clint; It would be important if entrepreneurial farmers could come up with some new healthy ways of producing “healthy food” for people. I think people are getting “sick” and tired of eating polluted food. Farmers are brainwashed by the power elite when they go to school and learn “their” agricultural methods. Anyways….if you really want to know what you are doing to people, you can find out such things as when you have a GMO seed with Bt in it, the bacteria is 1000 times more than if it was just sprinkled on the cornsilk, and in addition to that, the rain and water can’t wash it off, and when it is inside of the body of a cow, or human, etc. the bacteria keeps producing in the gut. (I guess that’s why the use of antibiotics in cows?) For more in depth information on this subject you can go to http://www.livehealthyforless.com/?s=Bt+bacteria “Genetically Engineered Food Alters Our Digestive System”

      • independant thinker

“(I guess that’s why the use of antibiotics in cows?) ”

Don’t think so. The use of antibiotics in cattle, chickens, etc. far predates Bt enginered corn and other crops. As I understand it the use of antibiotics (in the manner it is done in the cattle industry) helps the cattle gain weight faster. I think it is done because the cattle will get sick on a high grain diet like they are fed in the feed lots. The cattle’s digestive system is designed to use lots of roughage with only incidental amounts of grain (seed heads).

      • http://personalliberty.com survivalist55

I raise beef cattle…. on grass!!!! Antibiotics are used in feedlots and huge cattle farmlots with little room and no grazing. Cattle then can get sick as this is not their natural habitat and due to being kept in cramped quarters antibiotics are used to ward off disease. Grass fed cattle are not given antibiotics and are not kept in feedlots.

      • Tom W.

The way it’s supposed to be survivalist!

    • Christin

      Clint,

There are TWO SIDES to a coin… we are being fed, but with WHAT?

I learned that GMO or ‘genetically modified organisms’ are tied to Population Reduction.
So much for feeding the masses… only to kill their ability to hold a pregnancy… and have children.

GMO are inherently ‘unstable’ as they are an unnatural product of introducing a foreign bacteria such as ‘Bacillus Thuringiensis’ (B=) or other material into the DNA of a given seed to change its traits.

And with GMO seeds comes GMO herbicides with highly toxic ‘glyphosate’ chemicals. Tests show that tiny amounts of ‘glyphosate compounds’ would do damage to a human umbilical, embryonic and placental cells in a pregnant woman drinking the ground water near a GMO field.

Tons of GMO seed and GMO herbicides are made here and eaten everywhere, esp. sent to third world countries not to feed them, but to end their society’s chances of reproducing… eugenics.

You are a wealth of information on this subject today, thank you.

Wrote down your sites and will look at them.

Was buying seeds from a Feed Store nearby and asked the owner if his corn seed was GMO. He said, what? I said, You don’t know what ‘Genetically Modified Organisms’ are or GMO seeds? He said no. He is a really bright man… surely he must know. I wanted to ask him if he heard of ‘Monsanto’ and tell him to BING those two words, but I didn’t.

Feel like looking at these sites you gave today and with the few I have and writing them down and leaving them in an envelope for him to research… so he’ll know.

I asked him about natural and synthetic fertilizers for my garden beds I am planting and he knew the difference. He said most farmers around don’t care if it is natural or man-made just as long as it gets them big plants/vegetables quick. I commented that many people are sick and I cared what I used and then thanked him for allowing me to pick his brain.
I bought bone (phosphate) and blood (nitrogen) meal and he said I could use ash from my wood burn pit for pot ash (he didn’t have any natural).

Monsanto is a growing monster which has it’s tentacles into everything we buy at the market. Can Europe hold out much longer? Let’s hope so and Norway does have the International Seed Bank which stock piles native seeds but will it be enough? All these chemicals that have been on the market for decades are making each succeeding generation sicker and tinkering with peoples immune system. I keep thinking that Monsanto/Dow will concoct a new cure all to save us from all the damages they have already done.

Then I made a resolution to go onto progressive and MSM sites and post facts (which, of course they can’t stand…) regularly. The majority of the US public is being led (like sheep to the slaughter) down the rosey road of dis-information. Please check to see if your town, city or county is signed up for Agenda 21 and do something about it NOW! Let’s start with your neighbor, ask them if they have ever heard of Agenda 21. • Tom W.

I agree Duane, but did ya have to tell him so?!!

  • http://www.ifonlyphotos.com Alex Frazier

I have to agree with GraemeB. The part that concerns me the most is the inability to use seed corn. If we are producing and using an ever increasing amount of corn and other vegetables that cannot reproduce themselves, Murphy plays a definitive role. If it can happen, it will. The day will come when there will be a massive failure, just like the days of the dustbowl. The primary crops will fail, and we won’t have the means to reproduce them.

I think it’s just as bad as putting corn in our gas tanks. Only an idiot would devise a scheme to burn our food supply in our automobiles.

    • John

It is my personal believe that one reason that the UN and individual countries have established world seed banks where they store millions of different seeds is because of this possibility. We will always have a way to go back but it will take several years for it to happen and in the mean time billions will starve and die.
There is a movement to get people to grow gardens and to rebuild community farms and organic farms. Unfortunately this will be only a drop in the ocean. But it also will ensure that some people and seeds survive. Not far from us is a outfit that has 350 Acres of solar heated all natural green houses. its a community outfit where people by shares at the beginning of the year and get delivered fresh all organic fruit and vegetables every week. Its not much, but it is a start. If one looks at what happened in India and what happens right now in China and parts of Africa, one can clearly see that the so called green revolution is a utter failure. It destroys the small farmer and the variety they used to grow with mass farming of products that have a huge impact on the environment, need large amounts of fertilizers and pesticides and in the end contain a lot less nutrition then the original. The only people that profit from the green revolution are the corporations like Monsanto and others. The people get food products that lack essential minerals and nutrition and thus according to some Dr I have seen on TV peoples bodies are always grave more food than it really needs in order to make up for the mineral and nutritional deficit. This in the end is part of the obesity problem we see creeping up world wide. People eat lots of empty calories and not enough nutrition and minerals even from the simple food groups.

      • OB1

What you say is tru. We have replaced trace minerals with:
Concern Trace, Trace Mineral Drops (the most powerful, all-natural, ph balancing trace minerals available)…soluable, ionic, vegan, gluten free by: Liquimins ™. A Dr. Wallach (perhaps spelled incorrectly) spoke about this for years. People are obese because they are eating more food that lacks essential nutrition (especially minerals!). We just take 30 drops a day and we are so much better in two months it’s almost scarey. Yes, I will share how you can grow your own heirloom vegetables in abundance even if you do not have a yard. (It can be done…not rocket science). Glad to see Bob L address this.

In an attempt to avoid all the gm and ge junk out there I am planting my own garden and raising my own chickens. Until I can raise my own cattle we will be very limited on our beef intake, can no longer afford it anyway. Even with all of that it is hard to find the right seeds and feeds locally to keep the junk out and with the possibility of cross pollination with the gm crops all I can do is hope and pray, and continue to try.

    • John

There are ways to find those seeds in quantity. I started with going to the store and markets and buying organic fruit and vegetables and use the seeds from them to start my own. the first year, out of hundreds of seeds I got about 1-2% to grow. Probably because of the processes used to bring them to market. The second year, the seeds from those 1-2% all came up and I am now self sustaining in seeds for most items. Moreover, there are still organic places where you can buy heirloom seeds. Every year, let a few of your produce go to seed… don’t harvest them at the time where they would be good to eat but let them go to seed. Harvest the seed, dry em in a warm (not hot) dry place and wrap them in small envelops of brown paper for next years use. Some of them I put into pill bottles wrapped in paper towel with a small amount of moisture absorber to store them for longer they are good for 3-5 years after that some will fail to come up but never have i seen not at least 4-5% germination even after 10 years. I have established a good rotation and always keep some around even for longer just in case I have to go back to a set of seeds because of some infection or other problem. My Garden is small, only about 1 acre but it sustains my wife and I and seldom do we buy anything to supplement.

I’m curious what is the source of your knowledge & consequently your statements? Do you actually have real farming experience? Or are the statements you make based only on what you have read or been told? Have you not heard what has happened in some other countries, like India?

Admittedly I don’t have personal farming knowledge but what I have read about the practices of Monsanto & the chemicals we use scares me. Not so much for myself, since I am over 70, but for my children & grandchildren. I have read of Monsanto’s practices in India where, I understand, they sold farmers their “terminator” seeds, on credit to be paid
when crops matured, & all over India crops failed and not because of weather but because of the failure of the seeds themselves. Monsanto then attempted to collect by foreclosing on Indian farmers.

I also understand, maybe incorrectly (maybe you can correct me), that when our farmers who become indebted to Monsanto are ultimately being bought out by Monsanto when the farmers crops fail, & that Monsanto is now one of, if not the largest corporate farmers in the U.S. Does this not scare you?

Some chemicals(fertilizers) have done wonders in replenishing the soil and making farming more viable in the past. This modifying seeds to corner the market and wiping out native seed supplies is indeed freakish and dangerous and will not help in feeding us or 3rd world nations.

        IT’S ALIVE!!!

      • Karolyn

eddie – Chemical fertilizers do NOTHING to enrich the soil. It’s nothing but a temporary fix.

      • John

        Eddie,
The use of chemicals and mass farming of mono cultures have essential left the soil sterile. Nothing grows unless one uses huge amount of chemicals to feed the plants.
I.m.h.o. this was the ploy from the start. The big farming outfits are dependent on the chemical corporation to produce, the people are also dependent on them and we all depend on oil that is used to manufacture those chemicals. If we ever get a real oil crisis… and I believe we are not that far from it… this system is not sustainable and billions will starve. People need to learn how to grow their own food… it can be done, Cities and towns even in suburbia have small back yards . If people would start to turn those into gardens…now… and learn how to do it efficiently the impact will be minimized.
Because one thing is sure, once fertilizer becomes too expensive or sparse millions of acres in the American bread basket will lay empty. I have see estimates by experts that it will take in excess of 10 years for the soils to rejuvenate… but if we don’t develop alternate plans, there will be hardly any one around to farm them.

      • Sirian

        eddie47,
If you’re “chemical fertilizers have done wonders” happens to be referring to Ammonium Nitrate – very popular, used quite commonly – you need to remember that it does not do anything for the soil on a long term basis and is most widely used as a very cheap, common, easily handled EXPLOSIVE.

      • eddie47d

That’s what I said Sirian. “in the past”. Over usage of any chemical can cause harm whether in the soil or in the human body. I only use weed and feed maybe every 3rd year to keep out the neighbors growth. I prefer mulching which is safer for kids and animals.

      • Tom W.

But you can’t reach a 5,000,000 world population count with organic farming Duane! You eater you!!!

Surprisingly enough, people in foreign countries have survived for millenia and survive better without our meddling, which artificially protects life forms only to have populations crash in hard times.

This meddling results in brief periods of over-production and temporary increases in fecundity. Then, invitably, comes drought and flood and crop failure which lead to drastic reductions in the food supply. This in turn causes starvation and pestilence.

Just as farmers understand they cannot allow every weed to multiply, or every seedling in their garden to grow without thinning them out, or every animal to reproduce without maintaining numbers consistent with the available clean water, pasture and grain, we must remember the sad reality – not all naturally occuring gestations in humans are sustainable.
If we ignore this law of nature, nature will unleash forces to drastically restore the balance.
In addition to famine and pestilence, humanity itself will engage in the scourge of warfare.

Would we rather avoid these afflictions by using many of the widely available and inexpensive means we have developed through intellect, scientific inquiry, and manufacturing ingenuity, thus avoiding sharp increases which cannot be sustained later?

When conditions are bad, I believe Socrates was right, “The best fate is to have never been born. The next best is to die young.”

THANKS BOB last year was the worst year I have ever had for bees and pollination for my garden. The honey bees were almost non-existant but had a proponderance of bumble bees but all of a sudden they were gone. I am pretty sure there may have been some of their experimentation going on in my area. “The battle is not ours but The Lord’s” but we must be willing to enter the battle.

      • Christin

        Tom
So that’s where all the honey bees have gone… killed by Monsanto GMO herbicides.

That’s what happens when Man TRIES to play God… they make a mess of His Creation.

      • http://firefox wog1

Honey bees we are now dependent on and they were not even found here until they were brought here from Europe after originally coming from Africa. The Mason bee was what was here and is much more effective than the African honey bee.

      • independant thinker

Christin, Tom W, and others. It is more involved than Monsanto chemicals causing the die off. There is a fungus and a parasite that kill off colonies of bees as well. However, the chemicals and GE plants certainly contribute by weakening the bees and making them more susseptable to the fungus and parasite.

    • Sirian

      Henry L,
Jump over to this site and it may give you a source of the bee problem.

This problem has been growing for several years and they think they know what is causing the “die off” of honey bees.

This needs to be stopped. There is no way to determine what effect this will have on human genetics. They and the federal departments that support them are slowly poisoning us. How many children with three eyes or two heads need to be born before we can stop this franken-engineering.

  • http://www.chandostransportsolutions.com GraemeB

The one section that stood out to me was sec. 8 with “GE crops create non-renewable seeds that do not germinate from year to year” I firmly believe that a day is coming vey soon when there will be a mass failure of these GM crops where as far as the eye can see, there will be corn, wheat etc with no heads of wheat or corn. One only has to see the devastation that Monsanto is causing to the farmer in India where the farmer ends up committing suicide because they become indentured to Monsanto and cannot pay their bills or have sustainable crops.
Then you have the spectacle of the overspray of “agent orange” commonly called roundup, killing adjoining crops and cross polinating indigenous crops. This has occurred whee the place where corn originated in S. America has ben cross contaminatd by Monsanto GM’s with the result that we do not have original seed available in the event of a coming worldwide crop failure. Thank you corporate greedy Monsanto. Your profits won’t mean a hill of beans when this happens. No pun intended, because they have cross polinated beans too.

Monsanto is but another tenacle of the gargantuan arachnid known as the NWO. Becoming aware of the clandestine indoctrination foisted upon the unsuspecting world wide masses gives us an idea of how David felt as he gazed up at Goliath. We must also keep in mind however, that David was triumphant over Goliath.

    • Flashy

Part of some NWO ? Are you suggesting Michael, that for years fighting the Big Ag companies from destroying the family farm, destroying natural food strains, polluting waters and land, calling for an end to big Ag subsidies … that somehow Progressives and Moderates are in support of Big Ag?

You’re coming very late to the game on this one. Y’all stepped aside and allowed your Controllers to divert your attention, fill you full of misinformation, and allow the takeover to occur. Now you cry about it?

1, Food is a weapon – starving people will pretty much do anything to eat

        2. Food as a weapon – poisoning GMO causes sterility, birth defects, stunted growth and other as yet to be determined side effects — like super resistent insects.

The documented plan is basically to stunt an sterilize populations then control birth rates thru technological birthing centers. Inside the birthing centers technocrats will control genetic make up:

Alpha — smart ones leaders and controllers – tall good looking smart
Beta — mid level workers– shorter not so good looking not so smart
Theta — idiot workers, short stunted and ugly

        Michael…get a grip on reality.

i was calling you to task because, as you stated in your followup, you haven’t said a word. I know Eddie, Karolyn, myself, and other Moderates on this site…few as we may be…have mentioned Big Ag, the subsidies, and the systematic destruction of the family farm and the genetic mutations they foist upon us. usually these are in response to the robotic calls for more deregulation and how government is bad and not a good thing. But with very few exceptions, every policy you rail against, every call for wiping out departments in government..you blithely ignore the benefits of having agencies which operate for the People.

I know just last week when DaveH tried to bring up the number of trees and how good that is that we have more trees now than ever (showing his ignorance by not realizing it’s not just the trees making up a viable ecosystem, but the underbrush and streams…non -existent under today’s Big Timber farms)

I would bet large sums of money that, for you and the majority posting here, the last article you read about a protest against Big Ag crop issues…you said to yourself ‘damn environmentalist radicals”.

You call for dereg, you rant against any movement to bring back the human factor to government which existed prior to the war against the Middle Class begun under Reagan and continued to 2008. You stood aside when the most massive income redistribution in history was conducted under Bush II. you stood aside as Bush/Cheney politicized and stacked every consumer and emergency aid response department. You call for elimination of the EPA…you take the corporate line on fracking, on Keystone, on every item of the day.

And we’re supposed to now believe you when you cry alligator tears about Monsanto?

You have never fought for removal of corporate influence in the regulatory departments. fact is..you cry, yell and scream for more corporate oligarchies ! You scream about government becoming more into our lives…yet scream and support any legislation or movement towards dictating personal activities based upon wacked religious mores !

Talk about credibility … look at yours.

You are getting what you asked for. A corporate-run oligarchy in conjunction with an American Taliban.

Thats odd. I have hunted on numerous “Big Timber Farms” and not a one was the sterile manicured lawn enviorment you make them out to be. • Thor

Flashy, Karolyn, Doc Sarvis, Eddie47, et al:

I wanted to personally thank you folks for giving me such an insight into the liberal mind in the last few months. In that time I have come to understand—as well as I might—the liberal propensity to haunt conservative blogs for the sheer glee of baiting genuine thinking persons with idle prattle; with warm fuzzy sentimentality that camouflages the hard and heartless iron spike of real, insidious vitriol; and—last but not least—the absolute coordinated dexterity with which you all manage to avoid a straightforward, cogent and sensible argument.

When wont to make a point too difficult to put into words, you cut and paste liberal websites; and when you cannot deal with the facts presented in an orderly argument, you decry “Where is the proof?”

Rather than learn something from an opposing view point, you choose rather to chide and accuse—your favorite tactic being to take something that is sacred to conservatives like religious moral standards, tradition and historic fact and either distort and twist it or simply accuse them of violating their own standards. And you employ this technique without one example or scintilla of proof. Your only response to a well ordered argument is vacuous opinion.

And when the argument is too pointed and too tough for you to disprove, you do one of two things—you resort to name-calling or you simply ignore and pass on to a point in the stream where your technique seems more appropriate.

But, in spite of your antics, I have learned a few things with patience, passivity and observation:

Liberals do not really agree with each other on anything. They simply get together at regular intervals to make sure conservatives don’t get to run anything and to prevent them from having a lone voice on any issue.

The only exception to the previous general statement is that Liberals agree to disagree with conservatives on everything; and the only proof they offer is the fact they all agree that conservatives are wrong about everything.

Liberals do not feel they are exercising their 1st Amendment rights unless they are doing it in a conservative forum.

Liberals have no intention of offering a reasonable argument; they merely intend to argue.

Liberals have no solutions to any of the problems they can identify. They feel their only responsibility is to point out problems for conservatives to solve.

Liberals do not believe change solves anything; they believe in change for the sake of change—whether or not it solves the problem.

The liberal motto (or mantra) is “any other reality has got to be better than this one—if for no other reason than that it is an alternative to the conservative world view.”

Liberals have no morality of their own. They simply wait until conservatives voice their moral belief and disagree with it.

Liberals claim to be ‘moderates’ to give themselves the faux-credibility of ‘I see both sides, therefore I’m smarter than both conservatives and radical progressives.’ In truth, liberals who claim to be moderates are simply confused and undecided, hoping for long life on topography that doesn’t exist—middle ground.

Analysis of but a single quote from your last post above illustrates all the above, Flashy:

“You have never fought for removal of corporate influence in the regulatory departments. fact is..you cry, yell and scream for more corporate oligarchies ! You scream about government becoming more into our lives…yet scream and support any legislation or movement towards dictating personal activities based upon wacked religious mores !”

Central to the conservative world view is the emphasis on small government, less regulation and no intrusion into personal space—the exact opposite of what you say. This is a tactic known to Saul Alinsky progressives as ‘displacement’—accuse the opposition first of what you are actually doing that ‘the People’ won’t like and the accusation will stick. Second tactical principle—promotional secularism—always attack conservatives on their religious morality on the fundamental principle that it is intrusive, Victorian, oppressive; and do so in the crudest language of the times—thus, “wacked religious mores!”

In short, you have no argument. That loud, clanging sound you hear is an empty cranial cavity banging against conservative oak. After all, what’s that they say about ducks…? If you use progressive liberal talking points and tactics, then you must be a … (well, at least you have finally decided).

As to your statement above. Laughable. take the topic today. When the agenda is to weaken consumer and civil protections against corporate overreach, you support it. Flashy,
Like I’ve said, I’m new to politics but I don’t think the NWO reference was to any certain political party. If it was, it was a vague reference to both. Is Obama considered a strait liberal or a moderate because I can’t tell the difference? It would seem to me that even being considered a democrat in general is confusing to a newbie like me. If he was to represent “change”, why are we invading new countries and passing bills on New Year’s Eve that would make even Dick Cheney blush. I’m trying objectively to see the difference but it’s blurry to a laymen such as myself.

      • MNIce

Flashy, when you wrote, “As for intrusion into personal space…ummm, just one example out of the many. How about dictating intrusive medical procedures upon women, stripping away health benefits if such are ‘morally objectionable to the employer” and demanding the tenets of a religious sect override Constitutionally protected rights?”, you showed your bulb is getting dimmer.

I assume you are referring to the requirement in some states that women see their baby on ultrasound before hiring its killer. Ultrasound is NON-INVASIVE. It has much less effect on physiology than loud music played with a subwoofer. If it intrudes on a woman’s conscience, why is that not a good thing? Since when does the government have the authority to interfere in a free contract between employee and employer, and require either party to pay for a service probably neither of them want because it violates their consciences? Since when does the government’s ideology override the Constitutionally protected rights of members a religious sect? I suppose when secular humanism, with abortion as one of its sacraments, become the official religion of the United States government.

I’ll give you credit for spelling “tenet” correctly. Congratulations; many of the tenants on this site are still trying to figure it out. Now if I can just get everyone to be conscious of their conscience…

Very well said Michael J.! What’s going on here is a prime example of, some things man should just leave alone! One of the curses put on man when Adam and Eve disobeyed God was, “And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.” – Genesis 3:17-19 (KJV)
We want more, more, more! We’re too lazy to do it nature’s way, so we invent chemicals in our air-conditioned labs to do the work for us. Oh, what a wicked web we weave!!! Again I ask you Bob, can you find a better description of the human race today than II Tim. 3:1-5?!!

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

Keep your eyes on the skies, JESUS IS COMING! He loves y’all and so do I!!!

        TomW:

Thank you for that post. You hit the nail on the head.

“The best of times” and “The worst of times”. On the one hand I am scared to my very core every minute of every day and on the other hand I am fascinated with what is occurring before our very eyes.

We must indeed stay focused on God Almighty…. and that is hard to do in today’s world! Those of us in touch with God can feel Satan in the air, feel him roaming around us today.

I am afraid that I may slip, but more so for those who don’t take God seriously, or ignore what is taking place.

      • Tom W.

Hey OH, Don’t worry about a thing, just keep you eyes upon Jesus, Look full into His wonderful face, and the things of earth shall grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace! Do you know Him as your PERSONAL Lord and Savior OH?! If your answer is yes, then you have nothing to fear! If you don’t, then why not ask Him into your heart RIGHT NOW?! If you ask Him sincerely, then you can call yourself BORN AGAIN!!!

“Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” – John 3:7

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” – John10:27-29

      • Old Henry

Yes TomW, Jesus is, and has been all my life, my personal Savior. Maybe that’s why I am so keen on sensing Satan roaming like a lion. Those who do not know Jesus Satan considers as bein on cruise control and they need little attention.

It may be DDT all over again but where is the proof? There should be crop isolation to protect the organic farmers crop from cross pollenation and there by protecting the heirlom seeds from the GM crossing. This is a whole new monster.

      • Flashy

The article was correct about lawsuits if winds cross pollinate Monsanto (etc) crops. Counter suits are fought against by Big Ag taking the line their crops cannot reproduce by themselves…so they are no danger to neighboring “organic’ crops. they argue both sides…

      • Old Henry

Ralph, in their view heirloom seeds are the enemy because they make people independent of government and “big ag”.

      • http://firefox wog1

Agreed! But the funny thing here is that they are protecting the wrong groups and not the heirloom seeds. The one who is going to lose here is the consumer. What does Monsanto hope to gain if they lose their consumers?

God help us all.

      • Tom W.

        He’s going to Mom!

    • revnowwhilewecan

I agree Michael. It’s a hard pill to swallow, no pun intended, that the government could be involved in such diobolical doings. Especially when people choose to voice opposing opinions from a political platform with statements like, “myself and other Moderates on this site”. It’s very telling that there is an underlying agenda when comments are made with a capital letter in the middle of a sentence of the word “moderate” but yet no proper capitalization to start a sentence later on. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to move on to the actual issues at hand until we can put the partisan issues aside and address them for what they are.

      • Flashy

Rev….typo’s are typos. What is telling is you ascribe to typographical errors (common for me) an ‘agenda’. Which leads straight to the common traits of the followers of the TP and the fringe right. Fear, Hate, Ignorance.

When reason and reality run against the “purity’ of the faith, the Rightists run straight away from the reality and reason, and spout an ideological argument which, if anyone would think through, is anti-American, anti-patriotic, and would cause nothing less than the complete disintegration of this Nation.

Partisanship has nothing to do with it. It is the failure of the far Right, the “corporatists’ and the “American taliban”, to recognize reason and rational thought which has caused the social schism we face today in our Nation.

      • Thor

rev, you will have to forgive Flashy. Such radical thinkers have no time for actual facts–which of course leads to perverted deductions like blaming ‘the radical far right’ for happenstances they cannot possibly be responsible for. I give you the facts according to the Congressional Record, which–if you cared to examine them, Flashy–demonstrate that liberal Democrats have dominated charge of both houses of Congress 87 out of the last one hundred years. The remainder–less than 13 years–was either split or Republican run; and those 13 years have all occurred since Reagan. The absolute horror of conservative Republicans running both the Presidency and Congress led to a split giving Congress back to Democrats during both Reagan and Bush II. It is impossible to blame any state of affairs that exists on ‘the far right’ which has controlled nothing for the last century for any appreciable time.

Why then do liberals like Flashy use such tactics? It is a diversion from the reality that the liberal progressives who are the real friends of corporate terrorism, the real purveyors of elitism, class warfare and the American Taliban are slowly transforming American politics into an untenable landscape. My suspicion is that they do so without regard for the unintended consequences–that of losing their opposition. In the last century liberals have so dominated politics that they have slowly transformed their typical whipping boy–the conservative right–into such a limp noodle that they have produced a quagmire of morality even they can no longer fathom. Bereft of tangible opposition, they no longer know what to think or what to oppose. After all, you can no longer blame those who have come to think the same way you do.

Case in point: if Mitt Romney is all conservatives have to offer because ‘he’s a moderate and is the only one who can beat Obama’ precisely because he (Romney) is a moderate–then the liberal mindset is truly without opposition and the conservative voice is dead.

That being so, how then are progressives to know what they are opposed to?

      • http://gravatar.com/hattles JeffH

Thor, flashy’s tactics are a mirror image of Saul Alinsky’s “Rules For Radicals”.
