It’s obvious to me that some people who show up on this website are very talented when it comes to selective blame, but they’re not very good at all when it comes to tracing blame back to those who started things. Let me make this easy for our banana and peanut-munching, congenital non-thinkers.

Blame is a game that the Democrats play very well. They are, also, quite good at manipulated the general public. They depend upon ignorance to blame the Republicans and make themselves the good guys. The truth be known Clinton abolished the Assignment Program, reduced the foreclosure time frame from 12 months, thereby, eliminating default mortgage servicing that FHA had always required before the mortgage company could initiate foreclosure. FHA mandated that mortgage companies comply with its servicing policies in order to remain approved and eligible for the mortgage insurance benefit.

Clinton changed the focus of housing counseling from Default Mortgage Counseling which protected the insurance fund to First Time Buyer which depleted the insurance fund by manipulating the system to show great numbers of new homeowners for political gain. The problem is that the Affordable Housing initiatives and down payment assistance and quick ways to homeownership gave a false since of a booming housing market. Anyone who worked any time at FHA/HUD knows the manipulation and exploitation of FHA programs and the Low and Moderate Income that led to the problem. Knowing what happened is easy for me. Getting someone to want to know the details of the deregulation and who did it is the problem. Of all of the people that I have written to and spoken with there has not been any demonstrated interest in the facts.

Clinton deregulated FHA. Clinton first looked for weapons of mass destruction and passed the Iraqi Freedom Act in 1998. Obama has been putting businesses out of business spending and borrowing us us into the worse financial position ever. I worked at FHA for almost 30 years and was there doing the deregulation that Johnson did and the deregulation that Clinton did, and so far no one seems to want to know the truth.

The polls ask questions based upon information in the media. They should ask the people who were there. Ask the people who complied with the Assignment Program rules who were foreclosed after they were approved without due consideration of the program guidelines. As the people who tried to get help with their mortgage when they had a problem and the mortgage company told them that there was nothing that could be done until they were 4 payments past due. This was not how FHA serviced mortgages. Ask the people who tried to go to housing counseling agencies and found that there was a waiting list and few agencies doing Default counseling. Clinton took half of the money that had been used for default and Comprehensive Counseling and created National Agencies. This is where ACCORN and other “National Agencies” got their funding and most did not even have a presence in all 50 States. I have a lot to say about what happened, but not any who want to know the truth. Changes posted in the CFR and Federal Register cannot be erased, but it does take some reading and comparing FHA before and after Johnson and Clinton. The changes initiated by both of these led to major housing problems. After Johnson established HUD, HUD made changes to FHA that resulted in our getting entire subdivisions back. HUD tried experimental housing on Low and Moderation Income. FHA knew better. HUD gave the mortgage industry what it wanted. FHA has not been in control of FHA since HUD was established.

As long a Americans refuse to seek the truth or even learn how the system works the errors and blaming will continue and the wrong person will be blamed. Changes usually take a year or two to work their way to the surface. It takes research to find the real answer. History tells on everything and everybody, but someone has to seek the truth. I know what happened because I was there. I still have my copy of the original FHA 300 publication that was abolished shortly after HUD was established. When FHA was relieved of its controls the construction quality hit bottom. It surfaced in the 80′s big time but it started in 1965. It just took a few years for the old to fade and the new to come into the light.

In case you don’t know it Democrats like to change the rules and leave the names the same. Republicans just follow whatever is in play, and when the problems come they do not know what happened. So they just take the blame. Maybe one day they will wise up and look at what changed to take an agency from returning money to the treasure and refunds to home owners who paid the mortgage in full, to and agency destroyed by foreclosures.

If you read all of this, good for you. If you want some documentation, just ask me. I will be glad to provide handbook references, Federal Register references, and current posting that will not work because the attempts that I have read have no knowledge of the Low and Moderate Income way of life. It is not that they do not need a house. They did not need what was offered to them. After all, they work, pay taxes and should be able to buy a home. How is it that they can buy any automobile that they can afford, but are criticized for wanting a home? FHA worked well for housing the Low and Moderate income until DHUD(Johnson and Clinton)deregulated it. They gave it all to the industry and required very little from them. They made their money going in and cut their losses leaving and then were given Bailouts. They won at every turn and the homeowners loss and FHA loss at every turn.

That means that those of us who pay taxes have been taken to the cleaners and they still want more to resolve a problem that they created. Deregulation cause the problem, but Clinton did it, not Bush.

JimH and APN, short of threatening our elected horse’s assets, there isn’t a whole lot we can do. Those who CAN do things are the ones who are not motivated to look for solutions. It starts at the White House and ends in Congress.
‘Bipartisanship’ is a word that both sides warp and twist. Bipartisanship is too much like having Casper Milquetoast at the helm of the Titanic II.
Leaders must have goals, and those goals must be based on facts coupled with the best guesses that can be made. Long before most of us were born, Congress became a country club for people who learned to avoid real jobs. The White House has not fared any better, as it has been the domain of shadow groups that always have access to the #1 bureaucrat.
Cheap talk will get people elected, but unless they already have firm, practical ideas concerning what needs to be done for the country (as opposed to what will make ‘the’ party happy), America will be hosed via example after example of non-leaders who hold a wet finger up in the air.
It’s true leadership that we lack. Both major parties work to thwart progress, and what they tend to give us for candidates amounts to the lesser of two evils. Congress and the White House are roadblocks, and it’s America that pays for that unending lack of leadership.
It’s not possible for America to do any worse than if we picked candidates out of randomly-selected phone books. Call it home-grown volunteerism. It has to be better than the social engineering that political parties give us in the name of ‘elections.’

Figuring out who to blame isn’t really finding a solution. Maybe we should try that instead. So far going trillions of dollars into debt by two different presidents hasn’t worked. Time to try a different approach.
