Conservative Group Takes Notes From Liberals

A conservative organization is launching an advocacy group that will function in much the same way the liberal group Center for American Progress (CAP) does, but for a different political purpose.

The group of conservative journalists and operatives are setting up the Center for American Freedom (CAF) to wage a well-funded campaign against the Barack Obama White House and the liberal domination of partisan online media, according to POLITICO.

 The Washington-based group will have a budget of “several million dollars” to fund an online news outlet, The Washington Free Beacon¸ along with a research operation and media monitoring that will seek to do to MSNBC what Media Matters has done to Fox News.

“This is a fairly modest start-up that really hopes to combat the Center for American Progress and create something that in the not-so-distant future can be competitive,” CAF chairman Michael Goldfarb.

CAF founder say that the organization will focus on investigative reporting and research as it pursues its mission against the Obama Administration and liberal political agendas.

“Our original reporting and commentary will hold the left to the same standards to which ThinkProgress, TPM and Huffington Post hold the right. Liberals in journalism excel at portraying the GOP and conservatives as hypocritical self-dealers and lunatics,” said former Weekly Standard writer Matthew Continetti who will serve as editor to The Washington Free Beacon.

ThinkProgress speculated that the wealthy Koch brothers were behind the “comical” attempt to mimic their organization and CAP. But, while the brothers do have ties to the CAF staff, the emerging organization, like CAP, will not release a list of donors.
