Eric Holder: Too Many Guns Have Fallen Into Wrong Hands

Attorney General Eric Holder, whose Department of Justice orchestrated the Fast and Furious gunwalking scheme to supply Mexican drug cartels with illegal firearms, released a statement on Wednesday decrying the fact that too many people who are not legally permitted to own guns have access to them.

The AG’s remarks followed the release of a report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund that showed a 13 percent increase in the number of Federal, State and local officers who died in the line of duty, from 153 in 2010 to 173 in 2011.

“This is a devastating and unacceptable trend. Each of these deaths is a tragic reminder of the threats that law enforcement officers face each day — and the fact that too many guns have fallen into the hands of those who are not legally permitted to possess them,” said Holder. “Departments across the country have mourned the loss of too many dedicated colleagues and friends, but my colleagues and I at the Justice Department are determined to turn back this rising tide. I want to assure the family members and loved ones who have mourned the loss of these heroes that we are responding to this year’s increased violence with renewed vigilance and will do everything within our power — and use every tool at our disposal — to keep our police officers safe.”

Guns provided via Fast and Furious are known to have been used in the killings of at least one law enforcement officer in 2010, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, and another in 2011, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata.

Holder’s statement came with the announcement of a number of new officer-protection initiatives to be headed by the Justice Department.

    I always find statistics interesting. Especially when they come from the government who wants to make their point making statements that make you think one thing when it is not the complete picture. They want everyone to think the 153 officer deaths were all caused by guns.

    Yes, 153 officer deaths (federal, state & local( were reported in 2010.

    However the total by gunshot is listed as 59.
    50 where in auto accidents.
    14 were struck by autos.
    14 were listed as job related illnesses.

    The list has 24 lines.

      I want to see them make two separate categories of gun crimes. One that shows those committed with LEGALLY owned guns, and those with illegally obtained guns.(IE Theft or illegally sold, as from a runk of a car in the city!!)

        Hi Joe, Years ago I heard a statistic that there were 80 million firearms owned in the U.S. I’m sure it’s more now.
        With the number of firearms out there and the number of gun related crimes there are shows that 99.99999% of firearms are in good hands.
        The other stat you will never see is the number of crimes commited by a concealed carry permit holder. Or the number of concealed carry permit holders that commit a crime. It would be to low of a percentage to make any news.

    Can anybody believe this guy ? In his own words he shows himself as incompetent. While he doesnt believe in laws, he does believe in the end justifies the means, which is entrapment to the rest of us, to people like him the constitution is an obstacle, and something for show only, yes criminals hide behind it, but its lawyers that enable them, they all want a fluid justice system that suits their purpose.

      We have too many law enforcement agencies, like our Government has too many depts.,It muddies the waters, hides illegal actions, manipulates the system, But most of all it thwarts accountability, hence the fall guy, and pass the buck.       Douglas gun show dealers are NOT the problem the same rules apply to a dealers gun show sale as apply to one from his place of business. The dealer HAS to do a background check on each firearm he sells no matter where he sells it and BATF checks to see if his records are in order periodicaly.

        That should also go for rouge gun dealers like those in Milwaukee who sold under the table. Those guns from Badger Guns in Oct 2010 were used to injure two cops. Badger Guns had several incidences like this where buyers were linked to crimes.

        I’m gonna take a shot here and figure you got your info from Bloomberg’s “Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition” ‘Rogue Gun Sting’ program against gun dealers in five states which, by the way, was itself under investigation by the ATF for possible gun law violations for obstruction of justice relating to Bloomberg’s “rogue” operation.

        ATF investigators were back in 2010. Officials denied Adam Allan’s license renewal after finding violations, the Journal Sentinel reported in December.

        The ATF generally is not allowed to disclose violations because of secrecy laws passed by Congress that protect gun dealers.

        Badger Guns Adam Allan said the agency found minor paperwork violations. Former ATF officials have said there are no other violations but paperwork found during inspections, and sometimes they indicate a serious problem.

        After two Milwaukee polices officers were shot in mid-2009, Flynn ordered an operation outside of Badger Guns. Officers discovered that felons frequented Badger Guns, with some even practicing on the shooting range, which is against the law. Federal law does not require gun shops to run background checks on people using gun ranges.

        “I know there will be a lot of people who won’t be sad to see Badger Guns go away,” West Milwaukee Police Chief Dennis Nasci said. “But as I say, it is better to know your evil than not, especially if that is someone willing to work with you. I am not painting Adam as evil, but we know the relationship we have with him.”

I noticed you left out the fact (you know how those pesky little facts can be). That 4 OTHER police officers were shot with guns from Badger Guns. Since you want to push this issue Officers Vidal Colon was shot April 11,2009;Graham Kunish and Bryan Norberg were shot on June 9,2009 and James Jekanoski on September 30,2009. You can downplay these killings all you want and call me a liar all you want. Anyone here can look this up and prove how malicious you can be against me.     Especially with the help of AG Holder. The justice system in the US has been broken for a long time. Instead of punishing those who break the law, judges now just pat them on the back as say poor misguided darlings. Spend a couple of years in prison where you can learn more criminal tactics to get away with committing crime and then release them back onto the street. When it has been proven a person murdered another without any doubt, then string them up in public as an example.

    Judges today make rulings based on the political party affiliation of whoever appointed them instead of based on the US Constitution, State Constitution, or local laws. It does not matter whether the judge is Republican, Democrat, Independent or Greene party from Mars, ruling should be based on the Constitution, State Constitution or local ordinances depending of the judge’s jurisdiction. Just look at how presidents try stacking the deck by appointments to the Supreme Court. Thank God, most Republican judges tend to follow the Constitution otherwise crooks like Obama and Holder would have destroyed this country a long time ago. Holder should be sitting in jail right now, but them his buddy Obama would just pardon his lying crooked tail.

Seems to me it was a plan that an America officer was to die and the gun left , it wasn’t about track guns to gangs, it was about the attempt to increase public pressure for more gun control.

      I realize that Holder is responsible for the “Fast and Furious” debacle; however what he is attempting to argue is that these officers were murdered with stolen guns or by psychos who owned guns. The problem with these complaints comes when the US Attorneys offices put out memorandums to local LE offices stating the criteria for convicting a “Felon in Possession of a Firearm” has changed. This being said they were refusing to accept clear cut cases because they didn’t meat the criteria. Meaning felons, who had firearms or, as previously allowed, the ammunition for said firearms in their possession, would not be punished because they did not admit the gun was theirs. I know at least three of those officers were killed by Felons who were in possession of stolen or illegally purchased for them.

    Part of this problem is due to Washington’s insistence that a Washington lawyer is ‘perfect.’ Supposedly, Washington lawyers are divine and infallible. Yes, I know. Some people need to be institutionalized, too.
    In Holder’s case, he seems to be an example of that rare breed that combines a natural criminal talent with almost unlimited power. Most mortals never get that close to a perfect legal storm, but Holder could be said to be in the middle of the damned thing.
    At some point, Holder will screw up bad enough that his present handler can’t protect him. When that happens, it would be comparable to a scene where a match is close to a leaking gasoline can. It will be worthy of many photographs and widespread coverage – whether America’s worthless, prostitute media wants to do the job or not. Somewhere there are strong bars and a small cell waiting for The Holder. Maybe he’ll make new friends, too.

They have been running their scams long before Fast and Furious and nary a peep out of any of you. Gun crimes in Mexico have been traced to Arizona and Texas on a few occasions but nary a peep. Gun crimes have been traced in New York City from gun dealers in the Carolina’s but nary a peep. They traced gun crimes in Guatemala to dealers in Colorado yet nary a peep. When you all take your blinders off then maybe more folks will listen.

The number is actually less than 18% -the number of guns TRACED – the US is the ONLY country that has a database to trace guns sold. Countries like China (where most of the full-auto AK clones come from) do not have that capability, so guess what – no trace. Many of the guns are stolen, sold, or given from the Mexican military & police. The rest are bought from foreign gun dealers.

Now I’ve heard anywhere up to 89% come from this country but even 18% is a bunch so what are you doing about that? Most likely, since they pretty well know who the gun-owners are and their GPS, they’ll just be taken out by stealth, having already been proclaimed homeland terrorists.

        Don’t think that because you defend these vipers that you are safe. They care no more for you that they do those who actively oppose them. Now that they’ve used people like you to gain their positions of power, you’ve become a drag on the system.

        As for your gun dealers in other states supplied guns used in crimes in NY,or wherever else-were those guns actually sold to the criminals? NO-the original sale was made at the FFL (federal firearms licensee)in the state where the FFL is located.
        The only thing that tracing a firearm proves is where and when it was sold to the original owner-how many of the guns used in crimes were stolen from the owners? How many had been sold multiple times? How many were purchased for the criminals by “straw buyers” who could legally buy them?
        All this BS about the Mexican cartels getting their guns from gun shops on the border is BS-sure-they may send someone to get a few semi-auto guns in the U.S.-but…as they prefer full-auto-those are NOT purchased at any U.S. gun shop-so why punish U.S. gun owners for things they had nothing to do with?
        Remember-in the Fast and Furious fiasco-the U.S. gun dealers did NOT want to allow the sales-BATFE coerced them into allowing the sales.
        Internal BATFE e-mails show that they wanted to use fast and furious as a way to gain support for more gun control among other things.

        Holder,and the entire chain of command at BATFE and DOJ should be fired,and sent to prison for this BS.

        As for your “Badger Gun” arguement, every gun they sold was sold to legal buyers and the only reason their FFL was revoked was because of paperwork violations. Don’t you tink they would be indicted for a felony otherwise. I know that’s too difficult for you to understand but what isn’t.

        It appears to me that the crimes they did have come back to bite them in the a**. I believe they are going to be jailed as the extent of their crimes becomes more visible. I also believe it might take several years for that to happen since politics is involved and that causes the time to bring a case to trial to get longer and longer. The other problem is that is it takes too long the statue of limitation gives them a free ride (again politics in action — why a statue of limitation at all?)

        You need to search the FBI’s own database on supposed “gun traces.” Very few of the guns sold in sporting goods stores are turned around and illegally sold to outlaws, it just doesn’t wash. You also need to research just how many firearm related deaths there are annually compared to other murder weapons. Not to mention that firearm related fatalities have dropped sharply over the past several years. Leftists like you always want to cry wolf whenever the issue of American gun ownership is brought up, yet if you were attacked by some thug brandishing a knife or some other weapon, even if it wasn’t a gun, you would be the first to blame the police for not rushing to your aid with their own guns drawn. Do not attempt to rob me of my God given right to self defense of myself and loved ones because of your misplaced fear or because you cannot be trusted with a firearm yourself.
