Obama Is The Drone President

The Administration of President Barack Obama is responsible for an emerging global apparatus for drone killing, says one report from The Washington Post.

The apparatus is made up of dozens of secret facilities, including two hubs on the East Coast, virtual Air Force­ ­cockpits in the Southwest and bases in at least six countries on two continents, according to the article. Obama is quickly becoming known as the Commander in Chief more involving tactics to carry out the secret killings of adversaries than any U.S. President in history, and drones have played a vital role.

The growing drone program has blurred the lines between the CIA and the military, and the White House has taken great pains to avoid divulging much information about the programs structure, according to the article.

According to the article, when Obama took office in 2009, the Nation’s secret drone war was confined only to Pakistan, where 44 strikes over five years had left about 400 people dead. Since then, the number of strikes has soared to nearly 240; and the number of those killed, according to conservative estimates, has more than quadrupled.

Can’t be Britain or France or there never would have been a coalition formed in taking out Gaddafi. Can’t be So Korea with that new trade treaty. Can’t even be Canada since the pipeline has extended into N. Dakota,Montana,S.Dakota and Nebraska for several years now. Canada certainly isn’t hurting from us being a good trading partner. An American President has to communicate and negotiate with a variety of world leaders and some are not the best of friends. It takes a real leader to take on an adversary face to face. Doesn’t mean we have to like them but the channels have to be kept open to avoid future conflicts. You Barbara seem to have the head buried in sand syndrome which is if you ignore what is going on in the world it will all go away. What is this business that “judges homes have been blew up”.         It was a NATO operation that took out Quadafi and not a coalition. A colalition is what was used in Desert Storm, Afghanistan, and Iraqi Freedom.     The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground. History, in general, only informs us what bad government is. A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government. Most bad government has grown out of too much government. The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them. Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread. The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.         eddie, what you completely fail to recognize is that these are military strikes into the territory of foreign sovereign nations with whom we are not at war. Moreover, Obama and his myrmidons refuse to acknowledge that there is any state of war between us and Al Qaeda or Hamas or whoever. So what is the justification?

        Obama used a drone strike to kill an American citizen who was involved with Al Qaeda. No presentation of charges, no trial, no verdict in any court … just a top-secret decision to take him out. The body count of non-US citizens continues to rise, yet we are said not to be under attack.

        The fact is that Obama is keeping us in an ongoing state of combat, without Congressional oversight or sanction and completely blurring the distinctions between the military and the CIA. Yet this is a man who wants us to believe that Israeli atrocities are responsible for Palestinian terrorism. What is the payback going to be for what he is doing today?

        Just ask yourself what you would be saying if it were Bush instead of Obama, and try not to laugh too hard when you say “it wouldn’t bother me then, either.”

        Not to get to far off Obama but Nixon pulled the same actions in Laos and Cambodia. Laos was so secret few even knew about it until years after the Vietnam War. There was no war in Lebanon for us yet Reagan sent in troops and took alot of casualties. Obama is only doing what history has shown him what to do. We must change the attitudes in Congress and all the Presidential handlers (including Obamas)if you want positive results. Now some of Israels activities have lead to Palestinian terrorism and some Palestinian terrorist activities are nothing but cold blooded murder.I’m not fond of our foreign military policies whether in Libya or Iraq but someone better have the courage to stop this continual insanity.

        The initiation of the drone programs headed towards where it is today was under Bush. It took that long to get the technology right. Had today’s technology been available then I’m quite sure Bush would have escalated the use of drones and it would have been something I would have respected.

        As it was when we were attacked he sent the Bin Laden family home when everyone else was grounded. He ran the war as a political effort and never quite got it right. The same fallicy as ‘Nam. It turned into a quagmire.

        By targeting leaders (and that “American” you claimed was killed was a bad guy. Senior Al Qaeda leader Anwar al-Awlaki is now back to being a good citizen not hurting America anymore.)I think we are waging a more efficient war with minimal collateral damage.

        Countries who support terrorists can expect collateral damage. It’s the penalty for supporting terrorists. If determined to be a good strategic move I wouldn’t object to an entire city being taken out.

        We could go back to Truman with involvement in Vietnam but it was Eisenhower who sent in the first advisors. Kennedy sent in more but wanted to pull out but then Johnson took over and Robert McNamara encouraged him to escalate the war along with Dean Rusk. Johnson took the war to new heights in troop strength. Then he bowed out and Nixon took over and the air war increased with almost equal American casualties as under Johnson. The war didn’t officially end until May of 1975 under President Ford. That war never should have been so why are you so hard on Rob especially with that “aborted” comment?

      Bombing people never works in the strategic sense. It didn’t work in WWII. It didn’t work in Vietnam. It might get a few tactical wins but it never wins the war and it only makes more terrorists. Pakistan is losing control of its tribal reasons and the army is tired of getting their soldiers killed. We need to move beyond war to solve our problems with the world and least stop creating the problems in the first place. I’ve heard several Presidents in the past and candidates in the present who say we will hunt down terrorists no matter where they hide or which country they hide in.This bluster has been said by Republicans,Conservatives and Democrats alike. So now that they are following through on their remarks we go into shock and act like it it’s not right. Which road should we take? Michelle Bachmann wants to take on Iran and you can be sure she will be using Drones. Should we stop her or any other Presidential candidate in their tracks or allow this next war to proceed?

        Did any of your liberal teachers teach you about Hiroshima and Nagasaki? Those bombings were most effective, with a LOT of collateral damage.

        You should ask yourself if it was it right or wrong at the time not whether a “Lib” was in charge. Was WWII worth winning and was it justified. Those nuke attacks will be debated until the end of time. I personally don’t believe the second one was necessary so we all have opinions. We did have alot of casualties on both fronts and many wanted to bring that war to a close.

        And Jukebox, they were done to a country about to surrender, they were done for already, they were done with their own failed bombing campaign which got them very little, so our Nuking of their cities was a totally unnecessary attack on civilians who were already suffering horribly because of the actions of their own government. I am not proud of that myself.

        Ever wonder why we did not Nuke Germany? Maybe cause they were white? I think we dropped the nukes just to see what they would do. Ugly.

        Because the fire bombing of places like Dresden was quite efective. The city was pretty much wiped off the map.

        We had several avenues of mass destruction available.

        Yes the firebombing of Dresden was brutal, but shouldn’t of happened. Dresden was a college town and had no military interests at all for being attacked. No industries, bases, troop concentrations, etc., nothing. There were even rumors that the British started it as revenge for the fire bombing of one of their cities, but that city had military interests, like industries. FOR GOD AND COUNTRY!
