European Drug Companies Push For End Of Use Of Their Products In Executions

The drug company that makes the powerful sedative used in executions in many States is selling the product to another manufacturer, and says that the drug—pentobarbital—was never intended for executions.

Lundbeck Inc., a company based in Denmark, said a distribution system intended to keep the drug out of the hands of prisons will remain in place as Akorn Inc., located in Lake Forest, Ill., acquires the drug.

Lundbeck intended to sell off pentobarbital earlier but delayed the sale because of controversy over its use in executions. By retaining ownership of the product, the company could restrict its use for capital punishment, according to The Associated Press.

Europe and European companies have acted in recent years to prohibit the use of drugs for executions. Lundbeck, like other companies whose drugs took on an unintended role in U.S. executions, had asked U.S. prisons to stop using their product for capital punishment.

Last Tuesday, the European Union said it would place new restrictions on the sale of lethal injection drugs to countries that have yet to abolish capital punishment.

    End the death penalty for all crimes except extreme criminal endeavors.(Multiple murders,mainly) So if a husband beats his wife and she kills him and gets a 1st degree murder conviction she needs to die. I don’t think so. So if an 19 year old has consensual sex with an 17 years old and the parents cry rape because she is underage then he gets the death penalty? I don’t think so. Sure there are criminals who game the system but there are also those on death row who didn’t do the crime. Even “evidence” isn’t always truthful.

    The whole multi drug cocktail is seriously flawed.
    First there is the availability of the drugs, California has postponed 2 executions and now with the bleeding heart socialist governor Jerry Brown they will be delayed further.
    All that is required is a single injection of Cyanide. It takes only a few seconds to kill, works 100% of the time if the right dosage is used, is always available.
    Is it painful? I’m sure there might be a second or two, but that is nothing compared to what these creeps put their victims through.

    We need to revamp the system so that everyone gets fair treatment and to make execution much faster.
    For the first; an expert panel who hears every bit of evidence including anything that may have been kept out of the original trial under rules of evidence.
    The second; is an automatic testing of any and all DNA evidence, this isn’t very expensive and should be done for every case not just capitol crimes.
    There should be 1 appeal.
    All of this should take place during the 365 days between sentencing and execution. Execution should be on the 365th day after sentencing. The only thing that should change that would be evidence showing that they are innocent.
    The families, friends, clergy or anyone else testifying about the defendants past should be cut. They aren’t being tried for anything other than the crime they are there for and it doesn’t matter how “wonderful” they were in a past life.
    Finally the death sentence should be automatic for 1st degree murder.
    I would go further and apply it to any crime involving torture, violent rape, and attempted murder, more accurately unsuccessful murder.
    I would also add child abuse such as rape.

    Why don’t they just use that there evil pot? Oops, that won’t work pretty much how high the doese is.

    OK, go to heroen. I’m sure the cartels will be happy to sell it wherever they can. And it works.

    Maybe a fatal dose of alcohol! Now there is an idea. A fine example for the kids.
