HONOLULU, Dec. 27 (UPI) — A couple who posed for a picture with President Obama in Hawaii said they were “mortified” when their infant son stuck his hand in the head of state’s mouth.
Meredith Wagner, 27, who posed for a picture with Obama alongside her husband, Capt. Greg Wagner, 25, and their 8-month-old son, Cooper, during the president’s Christmas Day visit to the Marine Corps Base at Kaneohe Bay, told ABC’s “Good Morning America” Tuesday she quickly moved to pull her son’s hand away when she realized he was shoving his fingers into the president’s mouth.
“I was mortified. I was so embarrassed,” she said.
However, the couple said Obama laughed off the incident.
“He kind of laughed and said that Cooper looked up and saw his big nose and just wanted to get a hold of it,” Greg Wagner said. “He played it off really well and got a good chuckle.”
He said the Secret Service agents in the room didn’t appear to find Cooper’s actions threatening.
“They didn’t say anything to us,” he said. “It didn’t appear anyone made any movements towards us. They just played it off like the president did.”
