Obama And The Failure Of Capitalism

December 13, 2011 by

Obama And The Failure Of Capitalism

Oops! The Presidential pretender went and did it again. A lot of red ink has passed over the socialist dam since he unthinkingly told Joe the Plumber that he wants to “spread the wealth around.”

Or since he told Charlie Gibson that “It’s a matter of fairness” when Gibson repeatedly asked him to explain why he would want to raise the capital-gains tax when the historical evidence proves that higher capital-gains taxes actually decrease government revenues.

Of course, there have been endless not-so-subtle clues as to Obama’s impeccable collectivist credentials since then, but, on the whole, he tends to choose his words carefully so as not to awaken the sleeping frogs. One must always be mindful not to let the water get too hot.

But last week Obama let it all hang out in a speech at a Kansas high school when he said, “[T]here is a certain crowd in Washington who, for the last few decades, have said, ‘Let’s respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. The market will take care of everything,’ they tell us. If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes — especially for the wealthy — our economy will grow stronger.”

Moving in for the kill, he went on to say, “And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here’s the problem: It doesn’t work. It has never worked. … I mean, understand, it’s not as if we haven’t tried this theory. We simply cannot return to this brand of you’re-on-your-own economics if we’re serious about rebuilding the middle class in this country.”

That’s right, folks, capitalism had nothing to do with the United States becoming the most prosperous country in the history of the world. It had nothing to do with millions of ambitious people starting with nothing and becoming millionaires and even billionaires. And it has nothing to do with the fact that “poor people” (as defined by the Census Bureau) in the U.S. live better than middle-class people in most other countries.

When Obama says that cutting taxes and regulations doesn’t work, what in the world is he talking about? Everything works. The question is, for whom does it work, and how well? Collectivism works exceedingly well for politicians whose chief objective is to stay in office, but it destroys the lives of millions of people on the dole who might otherwise become productive citizens.

True to his favorite tactic of turning the facts upside down, when Obama says “it’s not as if we haven’t tried this theory,” it sounds as though he’s referring to communism rather than capitalism. Communism has been tried throughout the world — from Cuba to Russia, from North Korea to China — and it’s worked wonderfully for guys with names like Castro, Stalin, Kim Jong Il and Mao. But for the masses it has consistently delivered poverty, loss of freedom and death.

Capitalism, on the other hand, has worked for the masses — whenever and wherever it has been tried. Even in its impure state (i.e., not laissez faire) it has delivered spectacular wealth and a high standard of living to all those who are willing to work.

“You’re on your own economics” is a cute catchphrase — the kind of dismissive ridicule the left loves to employ — but the truth is that being “on your own” is a good thing. When the government leaves people alone, it makes it easier for them to innovate and create wealth. And when wealth is created, it accrues to everyone’s benefit, whether it is reinvested, spent on goods and services, or saved (which adds to capital formation and, in turn, spurs economic growth and job creation).

But what about those who are truly unable to care for themselves; e.g., quadriplegics, the blind and the mentally ill? What would happen to them in a truly free society? Fortunately, the Western way of life is based on a code of ethics and morality that motivates Americans, in particular, to be remarkably charitable.

No civilized person wants to see those who are seriously health challenged or mentally challenged suffer, so the question is not whether or not such people should be helped. The question is, who is best equipped to help them — politicians, whose chief aim is to perpetuate their own power, or free individuals, who have a genuine desire to be charitable to those who are incapable of fending for themselves?

If the scam of politicians taking from those who produce and giving the stolen loot to those whom they deem to be “in need” worked, the poverty rate would not be about the same today (14.3 percent) as it was when the Great Society was launched back in 1965. What Lyndon Johnson’s “generosity” proved is that it doesn’t matter how much of other people’s money you give away, it does nothing to lift people up. The hard evidence shows that it is government’s redistribution-of-wealth policies that have not worked.

The far left has succeeded in perpetuating a cult of dependency that keeps career criminals like Chuck Schumer, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in power. And, unfortunately, those who claim to be in favor of capitalism — primarily Republican career politicians — have consistently gone along with welfare programs that have bankrupted the country and stripped millions of people of the motivation to tap into their true potential and better their lives.

If one assumes that a community organizing ne’er-do-well like Barack Obama — who has never built anything in his life — sincerely wants to help the middle class, he would have to simultaneously believe that Obama’s an ignoramus.

  • How does increasing America’s debt by $4 billion a day help the poor?
  • How do more than 40,000 pages of tax regulations — regulations that take time and money away from job creators — help the poor?
  • How does an $800 billion “stimulus bill” — which turned out to be nothing more than a wish list of political pork — help the poor?
  • How do regulations that prevent oil drilling and coal mining — activities that could create a massive number of jobs and reduce our dependency on foreign oil — help the poor?
  • How does destroying the housing market through government-created failures like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac help the poor?

Yes, we do need to be on our own. More regulation is the last thing in the world we need. The greatest regulator is, and always has been, the marketplace. Those of us who have engaged in entrepreneurship know that the marketplace is a brutal, unforgiving regulator. But how in the world can you expect a community organizer to know that when he’s never started or operated a business? You have to experience the brutality of the marketplace, firsthand, in order to appreciate just how well it works.

Maybe Obama and his supposedly sincere leftist pals should study Galveston, Texas and try to understand why opting out of the Social Security system has worked so well for its citizens. Or why job-creating companies are stampeding out of anti-business, high-tax States like New York and California and escaping to business-friendly States such as Nevada, Florida and Texas that have no State income taxes.

The truth is that, throughout history, the vile left has never been interested in lifting people up. Instead of focusing on income inequality, their focus should be on setting people free — to be on their own! — to go as far as their talents and hard work will take them.

Sorry, Barack, but your socialist and communist mentors — from papa Obama to Frank Marshall Davis, from Saul Alinsky to Jeremiah Wright — had it all wrong. It is collectivism, in all its ugly incarnations, that doesn’t work. So-called trickle-down economics, on the other hand, does work — and always will. It’s built into the system.

Barack Obama would do well to listen to a once starry-eyed collectivist named Bill Clinton, who recently said, in an interview with Newsmax’s Chris Ruddy, “We don’t have a lot of resentment against people who are successful. We kind of like it, Americans do. It’s one of our best characteristics. If we think someone earned their money, we do not resent their success. That’s why there’s been very little class conflict in American history.”

We’re less than a year away from finding out who is right in his assessment of the average American — Barack Obama or Bill Clinton.

Any political system if attacked long enough will collapse or at least suffer and be greatly modified. The problem here is that we are not simply fighting against flesh and blood. Folks raise their eyebrows, roll their eyes and snicker when you mention spiritual warfare, but think: If our Constitution is based upon biblical principles and mentions the Creator, then you can be sure that His enemy will do everything in his diabolical power to ruin what God has established. This happened in every other great society. When God is rejected by the people who rule, and a plurality of the people who follow blindly, He simply withdraws His protection and grace and lets man learn the lesson that he can do nothing without the Almighty! Man reaps what he sows! Just think, every one of the divinely established Ten Commandments have become objects for ridicule in America today, as they were in Nazi Germany, the USSR, Communist China, et al. Why do you think the Russians are rising up against Vladimir Putin?! They want what we are losing under Obama and his Marxist progressive czars, union bosses, liberal academics, and a host of others who have thrown God under the bus. Wake up America! Turn back to God as a nation or lose everything! Islam certainly isn’t the answer either — wrong god!

Sounds to me Obama is bitter because his Communist idols and ideals were proven to be a lie . And because he can’t raise taxes so he and his high living woman can’t fleece the taxpayers for more to pay for her extravagant vacations . Obama may pick up part of the tab such as rent , but you and I pay for travel and secret service protection , their feeding and lodgings to a tune that averages 7 to 10 the cost of what the Obamas pay for anything , this year alone their vacations have cost 10 million alone . Wonder how much the Christmas Vacation will cost us ?

To all the liberals on the site today coming to the defense of your savior the anointed one Obummer….if the liberal, socialist model is so damn effective, why the hell is all of industrial Europe in the toilet in debt from the massive collective policies?

Our fake-in-chief is part of a movement to bring us to our knees and he needs another term to finish the job. I will say this as well, there are too many pols on each side that have participated in our demise so choose wisely when considering the options….who replaces Obummer.

I have very serious doubts about President Obama’s intellectualism. I can’t find in him a Clinton’s nor a Gingrich’s kind of intellect. His approach to politics and government has been trite, threadbare; rehashed same old stuff, but, as a bad history student, he believes that it’s new.
To say that capitalism didn’t work, is the proof that Obama doesn’t have a clue. A majority of voters elected an arrogant idiot as President; Washington should be turning in his grave!

I must admit that I generally do not read unsolicited e-mails, but I decided to give it a shot this time. I must say that I have never read such arguments that contain so many fallacies of reasoning: causal falacies, false delimmas, circular reasoning, argumentum ad hominem, false analogies, invalid conclusions, and red herrings. Did you folks get away with this kind of reasoning in your high school composition classes. “Bill, a good American, has a nice car with good brakes. Jose, can’t afford a nice car; therefore, Jose’s car has bad brakes, and he’s not a good American.” A fallacy is a lie, and it makes any argument unreliable. The Nazis of Germany taught us the danger of such propaganda.

Just a note to you gold buying guys:

Isreal desalination started pulling gold out of seawater, appox cost to extract 1600-1700 US dollars an once at the time, which was several years ago.

According to the story a man in Calif. has reduced the cost to extract gold from seawater to approx 300-500 US dollars per oz.

    Anyone else verify this?

Another pathetic Ringer article that once again is so “right biased”, it reeks of partisan politics/policies.
Once again this right-sided-windbag essentially backs the same failed, pure deregulation type thinking that brought America to it’s knees.
Yes, Capitalism is certainly the BEST form of government for the majority, BUT NOT WITHOUT some social programs that offer it’s citizenry a bit of a safety net, i.e. affordable health care, AND, some common sense regulation of big business.
The “let the ruthlessness of the free markets decide who lives” type thinking doesn’t work in practice, because the if the fat-cats get in trouble like they did in 2008, the get bailed out by the government!
In this sense, President Obama is right, you have to have some regulation.
At the end of the day, you need regulations and a watch dog, because people are naturally greedy, and if they’re not being watched, a few are going to steal what they can!
    Evidence of this statement?
Well, look at the carnage of deregulation, and America in its current state.

Well, Ringer is not near as bad as the clown on Saturdays. I guess he works all week to ‘perfect’ his comic stand up act that offered up every Saturday morning to hunger ‘haters’ that can’t seem to get enough hate in their mouths and brains fast enough.

Here a new worthy article this morning, ~ the benefits and risks associated with no regulation.

Until 1965, this country HAD “affordable healthcare,” and then LBJ started stirring the pot and SCREWED IT ALL UP!

The ten scariest words in the English language are: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you!”

PLEASE “government,” QUIT HELPING ME AND GET OUT OF MY PERSONAL AFFAIRS!!!

      • Robert Smith

kFrom GR: “PLEASE “government,” QUIT HELPING ME AND GET OUT OF MY PERSONAL AFFAIRS!”

        Yup.

Quit trying to tell me how to defend my home.

Quit telling my wife what to do with her body.

Quit telling me how to die.

Quit telling me what recreational drugs I can use.

        Rob

Evidently, you were using recreational drugs when you should have been studying.

    • T Johnston

All you have to do to get affordable health care is take the government out of it – what drives the cost of medicine up is the fees paid to health care by govt programs like medicare- those fees are set by govt not by the doctors who have no control over it. It take 40 pages of paperwork to get approved to even take patients on medicare and the the fees are all set – the average eye exam by an OD is about $45 but the fee paid by medicare for the same exam is $80. Don’t blame Dr’s or the cost of healthcare, blame your liberal govt for it.

      • Capitalist at Birth

I got my eye exam at Costco for $ 30.00. My prescriptions, when I had insurance had a co-pay of $10.00 Today I can buy the same prescription for $ 5.99 without insurance. I had a mini stroke in 2009, which left me thecnically disabled. I visited my Primary Physician who charged me the co-pay of $ 20.00, he sent me for an MRI which cost me $ 692.00, and then to a Neuroligist who charged me th $ 20.00 co-pay, who sent me for a sonogram which cost me $ 350.00. I had to revisit my Primary Physician and the Neuroligist for my claim for Social Security Disability. They each had charged the insurance company over $ 180.00. When I told them I did not have insurance they charged me $ 60.00 and $ 30.00. I asked my Primary Physician why he charged me more than a specialist, He said the next visit would be $ 30.00. In 1966 I argued with the Democrats in my basement during a precinct caucus, that Medicare would drive Medical costs through the roof. Of course they could not see the light, because they thought they were getting something for nothing. Guess what a visit to my Primary Physician cost in 1966. $ 5.00 when I paid for it out of pocket. I could go on and on about this subject, but I realize it is really a waste of my time. Good Day

Truthfully, your mom should have washed your mouth out with lye soap a time or two to help you learn some better manners. Too much of what you have been saying had nothing to do with the article and all to do with YOUR opinion, or lack thereof, concerning different posters on here. I am no great fan of Obama, but so far have seen only one or two possible candidates who I think worthy of the office to replace him. The bad thing is, all people like you do is cry down the men or women who believe in the country AND people of the US, not just the rights of business men to do as they please, when they please.

The fanatic leftists will now feign outrage. Their feelings have been sorely and unjustly hurt. “There should be law!” they will whine. Please, God, spare me.

This will be my last comment at this site. I have greatly enjoyed discussing conservative issues and values with most of you here. And I have much valued the time we have spent together through the magic of this digital media. This site, however, is plagued with liberal loonies, godless communists and socialists, evil atheists, perverts and pervert sympathizers, narcissists, nihilists, and other such outlandish weirdoes. They add nothing to a discussion and, like a fly, seek only to annoy, and with the superior air, typical of the pathetic, obnoxious liberal. I will say no more, since I might offend someone – a crime far greater than any actual, physical assault into today’s absurd, Marxist culture. These distracters have only convinced me of just how sick and deranged we are as a people. The knowledge that such delusional, evil sock puppets actually exist is disconcerting and depressing in the extreme. Exposure to their insanity only saddens me. Therefore, I will no longer visit this forum. Best of wishes to the many fine, upstanding Americans I’ve come to know here. And may God bless you in all your future endeavors. Special thanks to Bob Livingston for his unselfish desire to educate others.

Terry asks: “Why has communist China Embracing Capitolism , and beating us at our own Game.”

Because they are buying American debt and eventually will crush our economy if we give them the chance.

And! They are buying things American investors aren’t like buildings and factories. American investors are trading paper and ripping off the middle class.

We are being beated because corporate business has become corrupt.

“And! They are buying things American investors aren’t like buildings and factories. American investors are trading paper and ripping off the middle class.”

An why exactly is that Robert?….I know it couldn’t possibly be too much taxes and over regulation….from our suposedly elected officials…right? Manufacturing goes where it can make the most profit…with the least regulations and taxes….because the bottom line for any business…is profit…period. You are one of these useless idiots who blame the wealthy for all of Americas woes…when you should be blaming the Federal Government…it is after all, the Federal Government that makes the rules…and enforces the rules…so, If they make the rules…then the problems are created… by design. If the rules are being broken and the government doesn’t enforce those rules…how is it the fault of those breaking the rules? Isn’t the government supposed to be punishing them for the violations…but instead turn a blind eye (because they are bought and paid for by those big corporation)? If, as I stated they (elected officials) are bought and paid for by the corporations…then they are stilll to blame…because they have the ability to refuse to take bribes (lobbyist funds)…….Stop blaming the rich….it is the government…plain and simple…kinda like you….(plain and simple).

IF it was overtaxed and over regulated, WHY would the Chinese want to own it in the first place? Could it be they see possibilities here that our own financial wonders have ignored? The true oriental does not think in terms of quarters of years, but more in the line of quarters of centuries to see growth and return. Here, if people don’t see a massive return on their investments in three to six months, they bail out and leave the poor business owner who couldn’t generate what they expected to swing in the breeze. That is only one of the reasons so many small businesses go under, not from a lack of a good product, or a good work ethic, but because it takes three to five years to even establish a name for yourself in a given area to truly see a return on your investments.

The issue isn’t Capitalism. It is the issue of how the wealth is generated. If it is via the production of goods and services, more power to it. If it is just by manipulating securities, and risking people’s in-the-bank money as capital and with that, the entire macro economy, this is the actual wrong. This is parasitic and makes no constructive contribution to the economy or anyone else’s wealth.

    • Robert Smith

ARTH says: “It is the issue of how the wealth is generated. If it is via the production of goods and services, more power to it.”

But in America wealth isn’t generated by production of goods and services. It’s generated by paper on Wall Street. That is at the expense of the 99%.

BTW, why are coroprations allowed to make money off me in America but pay taxes in Switzerland?

      Rob

      • GRusling

Rob… do you have a 401k? If you do, you’re part of the “WALL STREET CROWD MAKING MONEY OFF PAPER” so get your head out and face the fact that it’s JUST A FEW (including most politicians, in both parties) who are trying to scam the rest of us. “OBAMA” is the leader of the pack at the moment… which makes him the current target… no matter HOW MUCH you hate those on the right…

Some people hate the millionaires, but they still play the lotto. And the worst part is how easily they internalize and justify in their convoluted unconscious that contradiction.

    • Robert Smith

Obama is advocating a tax cut for the middle class. WHY don’t you support that? You are advocating playing games with money that is in MY pocket.

Why do you insist on playing a POLITICAL game advocating for a pipe line at MY expense? Why not let each be voted on by their own merrit?

Brenda is right! Obama came into office w/ the greatest mess left behind ever. He has stabilized the economy and helped create job growth for the past 2 yrs…it’s just enough to get ahead of population growth so the unemployment rate is only falling slowly.

The rightwing has adopted an obstructionist and totally negative and destructive political strategy, all in the hope of not allowing Obama to get any credit for an improving economy w/ the goal of reclaiming the presidency next year. They are essentially traitors to the well being of the country and should be called such. Traitors, liars, hypocrites, powermongers! On top of that, the economy is not doing as badly as they keep shouting. Most people still have jobs…most people are still spending. The Repubs constantly talk down the economy for their political purposes and make people feel like armageddon is here…that hurts consummer confidence and makes things worse. Vote them out and let the country get to work!!!

      • George E

        Robert,

Don’t worry, you’re going to get your “tax cut.” Republicans don’t want to deny you that, but at the same time they aren’t in favor of draining the Social Security system further when it’s cash flow is already running in the red. The pipeline shouldn’t even be part of this discussion because it should have been approved and moving ahead instead of being held up for political reasons. The Republicans have made several proposals to let you have your tax cut, but the one I think makes the most sense is to let every American decide for himself/herself whether to take the tax reduction now but postpone when he/she can collect his/her Social Security later on. That keeps the Social Security system from depleting its funds faster and lets each American decide for himself/herself what makes the most sense for their individual situation. I haven’t seen any proposals that thoughtful coming out of the Democratic side of the government. Do you think they’ll demonstrate a little statemanship right now and work with the Republicans to pass this bill? I doubt it, so who is really obstructing progress?

      • Doug

Really now how come since we have a Demorat control in Washington we have not seen a budget in years???????????????????????

      • Mark in LA

denniso – Obama did nothing for the economy. The economy is starting to slide again, just like the bounce after the start of the Great Depression. Thirty years of stupid economic theory have drained the middle class of disposable income. The wealth concentration of the 1920s was repeated in the 2000s. We are in a depression that will last a long time. We won’t get out until we change our trade policies and put American workers first.

      • denniso

You apparently don’t know what a depression is. Read up on the Great Depression, look at some photos of the soup lines, then get back to me. We’ve had job growth for over 2 yrs,the problem is that it’s not enough to keep up w/ the new workers coming in to the economy every year. The official unemployment number has come down to 8.6%,that’s hardly a depression number. And,before you complain that the number doesn’t reflect the real number of unemployed, that’s always true…the number is a guide for how the economy is doing and a drop in it shows some improvement.

If Obama, and Bush w/ tarp, hadn’t done what they did to save the greedy financial sector and the car companies then we would probably be in a real depression, and you and I would probably not have the leisure time to be chatting and arguing about it.

The Repubs have convinced you that the economy is worse than it really is,all for their traitorous purposes of hurting the country so they can regain power…disgusting pigs!

        Robert,

BO wants to steal personal wealth from people that create jobs to fund the tax cuts.

From Harold: “BO wants to steal personal wealth from people that create jobs to fund the tax cuts.”

      • Ellen

Robert, Do you not get the irony of this article? Obama rails against how tax cuts and deregulation have never worked – then he fights for a tax cut. The crazy part is the tax cut takes funds from Soc. Sec. – a fund that is already paying out more than it is collecting. If Obama wanted to give the middle class a tax cut, it would’ve been a reduction in federal income tax, not payroll (SS) tax. This is all about a tax cut for the poor. Since they don’t pay income taxes, they wouldn’t benefit from a regular income tax cut. The ‘poor’ are bankrupting us and they keep creating more poor due to the welfare law provisions. This holds them down; it does not help them at all. Obama does not care about the middle class and is only lying to them to trick them and get their votes. Also, the Bush tax cuts bring in more revenue than Clintons’s higher rates brought in, so they worked as intended. Unfortunately, spending has doubled in the past 10 years. That is our problem, not lack of tax money.

      • George E

        Well said. Thanks.

      • Aurelio

Ellen, you’re absolutely right. The left needs to keep the poor as poor for the same reason that the union boss will discourage you from becoming an entrepreneur: because he’d lose his source of income and his power. The liberal wants to give a fish(paid by your taxes) to a hungry man; the business minded, will teach him how to fish. Communism gave people on the brink of starvation a fish just to keep him alive; America, teaches you how to fish.

      • GRusling

Sorry Robert… Obama’s so-called “tax Cut” is no tax cut at all, and certainly not for the Middle Class. What it really is, is MORE STEALING FROM SOCIAL SECURITY because that’s where EVERY DIME of the “Payroll Tax” goes! Are you sure you want to advocate taking away from the “Social Security Revenue Stream” at this point in time?

Nancy Pelosi blessed the hobos and potsmokers for representing America.
You people who use this type of representation for your nation, have no idea of the harm you do to this country.

Brenda, where have you been??? Some of us have been complaining and voting accordingly for decades. This isn’t about the Obama administration–although, he shreds the Constitution–it is about ALL the administrations that have violated the Constitution for so many years that we now find ourselves in this mess. We’ve been in trouble for a long time. The difference now is that finally, the sleeping, lazy Americans have realized THEIR security is in danger. Some of us have screamed this warning for years. And, Brenda, I think you are naive or have not been a student of history if you believe Obama is merely cleaning up the crumbs left behind by other presidents. No, my dear. Obama wants to “fundamentally transform America”. What disturbs many of us patriots is his transformation sends America over the cliff of socialism…a proven failure. I have no problem with someone wanting to be a socialist and living as such…as long as they move to a country that does that. If; however, you want to live in America, you should embrace the core values (as outlined in the Constitution) that made us the leader in the free world.

All presidents have made mistakes from FDR’s progressive/socialist programs, LBJ’s great society and others who thought they were helping. Rather than end the programs they were expanded and built on by future progressives. No one is better off because of these programs, people or country.

    Robert Ringer says
“That’s right, folks, capitalism had nothing to do with the United States becoming the most prosperous country in the history of the world. It had nothing to do with millions of ambitious people starting with nothing and becoming millionaires and even billionaires. And it has nothing to do with the fact that “poor people” (as defined by the Census Bureau) in the U.S. live better than middle-class people in most other countries.”

How does that relate to what Obama was saying? “If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes — especially for the wealthy — our economy will grow stronger.” Robert Ringer doesn’t relate to Obama’s charges. Obama was talking about DEREGULATION. That not capitalism. Obama was talking about how capitalism is running wild, turning from TRUE capitalism to gambling because of DEREGULATION. With this article,Robert Ringer makes himself look like a turkey.

Fail. Laissez-faire capitalism is the only capitalism that exists. Anything else is a distortion upon that. Stop buying into Kantianism.

      Roger,
Go back and read the article again. Obama is saying that lowering taxes and deregulation (AKA Free Market Capitalism)…doesn’t work…which is completely false. In a true free market economy, regulations by the government are totally un-neccesary as the market ajusts itself. If someone is consistantly producing an inferior product or charging too much for that product…people stop buying that product….and the producer either creates a better product, drops the price…or both…or they go out of business. Just remember the golden rule…”Let the buyer beware”.

      • Robert Smith

Hey Joe, you say: “If someone is consistantly producing an inferior product or charging too much for that product…people stop buying that product…”

But the current crop of corporate wealthy folks are NOT producing products. They are making money by trading paper at the expense of the middle class. Then they pay taxes in Switzerland instead of the USA.

Seems to me the corporate system has been corrupted. That’s not capitalism.

        Rob

      • Average Joe

It’s obvious that you have a comprehension defict going on there Robert. Nowhere in my post did I say that we “have a free market economy”, my exact words were “In a true free market economy, regulations by the government are totally un-neccesary as the market ajusts itself.”….I realize from reading your posts that you “decide” what the post was about (regardless of what was actually said) and then run off out in left field with your …theories about something…not even in the post. Try reading the post…and stop wandering around in left field. What we have is “crony capitalism”…not free market capitalism…try looking them both up so that you will have a clue in future conversations…what each one is…and how they differ. As usual Robert…you are clueless…..

      • Robert Smith

It still seems to me the corporate system has been corrupted. That’s not capitalism.

We need to tax the thieves out of business and return capitalism to production.

      • George E

        Robert,

When government taxes the thieves out of business, it also taxes productive businesses out of business. By contrast, the market punishes the thieves while rewarding the producers. Government tends to punish everyone except politicians and their political allies.

      • Ty

        Robert,

They are trading paper that wouldn’t exist if government regulation hadn’t forced lenders to lend money to people the lender’s knew were high risk and wouldn’t have lent to in a free market.

They are trading paper that wouldn’t exist if government backed mortgages didn’t guaranteed repayment and guidelines were loosened.

It is largely the interference in the free market that created the paper. Once it existed and was bundled with other loans it was nearly impossible to tell what packages held bad loans and which didn’t. Blaming those who traded the paper, as was the norm, ignores the origin of the bad paper. It is like blaming your water company for delivering water that was poisoned by a terrorist, rather than blaming the terrorist. Target your anger where it belongs.

      • Mark in LA

Another idiot who spent too much time reading the Mises institute crap and swallowed it hook line and sinker. In a totally “free” market there is nothing to stop monopolies, cartels, and market corners. Only an idiot would think people would rather compete with each other than collude to get higher profits. Yeah, I know the chorus line “when prices and profits get too high somebody else will get in”. If you were a complete idiot you would believe it because it sounds so simple. Hoever, It costs a lot of money to enter into a new business venture and there are trade secrets and intellectual property rights that can bar your entry. In additon, the existing cartel will drop prices below your ability to compete until you are bankrupt. Then they will raise the prices back to make up for it.

Economics is a pseudo-science. There are no truths just arguments that can never be falsified. The Mises institite is no more likely to be correct than any other idiot on a soapbox.

      • Ty

“Only an idiot would think people would rather compete with each other than collude to get higher profits.”

Only an idiot or a leftist (but I repeat myself) would think everyone wants the same thing and thinks the same way and is unethical.

One of the largest obstacles to competing in any industry is the pages and pages and pages of regulation needed to be complied with. And much of it is generated at the request of those wishing to collude to prevent fair competition. Your argument is better waged against government interference than for it.

      • Mark in LA

You are a fool if you think it is regulation that keeps companies out of a business. I worked in the medical products business. EVERYBODY has the same regulations to deal with so it is a cost of business that is the same for everybody and cannot bar people from entry. Do you really want some upstart making pacemakers who doesn’t have to do clinical trials on his product to be allowed to sell it cheaper than companies who did prove their product was safe and effective?

What is the real bar is the high cost of reaseach and developement coupled with intellectual property laws. Companies patent everything -even useless stuff in the hopes of impedeing their competitors. Stop reading the coprporate propaganda.

      • Ty

        Mark,

If you were a runner and were provided one day to prepare for a marathon that your competitors had years to prepare for would you expect to compete well? Would you even bother participating?

        I’m guessing not.

Yet you argue that starting a company in a heavily regulated industry where your competition has been around for years, has had time to comply with the regulations as they were enacted whereas you have to learn them and comply with them out of the gate with no revenue isn’t an obstacle to starting a company in that industry.

The cost of research and development vary from industry to industry. In many industries there is none of either yet still regulation and needless licensing. As for intellectual property, it should be protected. That’s what gives the inventor or originator the incentive to create in the first place – the knowlege that someone else can’t come behind him and copy his work and profit from his efforts.

You should do less non-critical reading of whatever it is you’ve been reading and do more thinking.

      • Mark in LA

More proof that Ty is an idiot:

Yet you argue that starting a company in a heavily regulated industry where your competition has been around for years, has had time to comply with the regulations as they were enacted whereas you have to learn them and comply with them out of the gate with no revenue isn’t an obstacle to starting a company in that industry.

The regulations are the SAME for every company idiot. NOBODY has any benefit because their compliance system is already in place any more than the existing business has an advantage because they already have a sales force. You are the one who needs to think. It is obvious you can’t so you come up with idiotic examples that you think proves you know what you are talking about but only shows how dense you are.

What should happen then Einstein, new companies should NOT have to comply with all the regulations old companies comply with because new companies have to create regulatory compliance departments? Is this “thinking”? At some point everybody would create shell companies so that there would be no regulations. We have enough problems with medical recalls as it is, imagine if there was no testing of any products before their release to the public.

      • Ty

Mark, I’ve felt for a while that scale is something liberals just don’t get. You confirm my suspicion.

So in your view, being able to build a compliance department up OVER TIME as revenue and regulations grow, is not an advantage that handicaps the startup, which not only has all the normal expense of starting a company (including a sales force) but must now also staff a compliance department. Really?

You are aware that most companies tend to start small and grow, right? The existing companies have had time on their side to build their compliance departments, sales forces…etc. They have a revenue stream to pay for this growth. The startup doesn’t. The more intrusive the regulations, the larger the expense and the higher the entry hurdle. Get it?

And I’m not advocating that companies selling medical supplies and equipment shouldn’t have their products somehow certified safe. If government only inserted itself in such areas there might be an argument to defend it. Branch out. For one example, those who want to start a business to do nothing but weave hair, can’t in many districts without being a licensed cosmetologist – a multi-month, multi-thousand dollar process to teach them everything they don’t need to know to weave hair and nothing they do. Why? At least partly because the licensing board that decides what activities are covered by their license is populated by… (drum roll please…) cosmetologists.

      • Mark in LA

        More nonsesne from Ty:

You are aware that most companies tend to start small and grow, right? The existing companies have had time on their side to build their compliance departments, sales forces…etc. They have a revenue stream to pay for this growth. The startup doesn’t. The more intrusive the regulations, the larger the expense and the higher the entry hurdle. Get it?

While seeming to sound less than stupid to the ignorant. It is stupid. Ty every company has start up costs. Your business plan makes arrangements for that. Your initial capitalization takes that into account. No business making a complex product will be profitable its first year. You know this going in and you have an idea what the costs will be. To pretend that the startup regulatory costs are somehow more prohibitive because the other guy already has them in place is nonsense to anybody with brain. A new car dealer has to build service bays, does that stop him because the other dealers already have service bays. NO he knows before he buys the dealership how much service bays cost to build and puts that in his business plan. Got it.

      • Ty

Right Mark… And the higher those start-up costs are, the harder it is to start up. Get It? And when funding departments that are pure overhead, the harder it is to make a profit and stay in business. Get it? Or are these ideas to simple for your infinitely more advanced mind to grasp?

      • Mark in LA

Once again Ty. Every company ALREADY in a business has an advantage. They call it first mover advantage. He has a brand, he has market share.

You were trying to say that the reason a new business cannot compete was because of “all the regulations”. The idea that regulations are barring you from entering is what is stupid. You want to put the onus entirely on regulations because from Fox news or one of these web sites you read or heard about the boogeyman called government regulations that are “strangling” business. So instead of recognizing the real bar to new entries has to do with the normal problems everybody has starting a business, you pretend it is all about regulations. When I call BS you twist yourself in circles trying to hold on to your stupid idea that regulations are somehow the main obsticle while they are insignificant because everybody has the same costs.

If what you said made any sense at all then NOBODY would enter the medical products field but there are more start-ups in this field then in any industry in America – why is that if “regulations are strangling them”? It is because they are not, and the regulations are actually easier to comply with now that they have been in place many years. There are more people you can hire who understand them and they have gone through a period of standardization making it easier to do what other companies are already doing instead of making it up as you go and finding out it didn’t work. So in fact the cost of regulations has gone down in a real sense.

      • Ty

        Mark…

re: You were trying to say that the reason a new business cannot compete was because of “all the regulations”. The idea that regulations are barring you from entering is what is stupid.

No – the point I’m trying to make is that the more regulations there are, the higher the barrier to entry for a new company.

Specifically, what I initially said is: “One of the largest obstacles to competing in any industry is the pages and pages and pages of regulation needed to be complied with. And much of it is generated at the request of those wishing to collude to prevent fair competition.”

It would have been more precise had I said “some fields” rather than “any industry” and to “start a new company” instead of to “compete in any industry” but those distinction were fleshed out in subsequent exchanges and the example I gave of the person wanting to start a hair weaving business that is required to get a cosmetology license to do so clearly illustrates my point.

In the medical field it may not be as obvious but it is still there. The reason there are a lot of startups is that the field is exploding due, in no small part, to aging baby boomers. That isn’t to say there wouldn’t be more startups if there were less regulation.

You equate the cost of a compliance department with the cost of a sales force and service bays. A sales force pays for itself and then some or you tweak it until it does. If you service cars, bays are the means by which you do that. They are overhead but the more you have, the more cars you can service and the more revenue they generate. A compliance department is pure overhead – the bigger it needs to be, the more revenue you need to generate to cover it’s cost.

It is an additional burden to a startup that raises the barrier of entry, more in some fields, less in others. In the case of someone wanting to weave hair, it can keep her completely out of the field.

      • http://www.RobertwFowler.com Robert Fowler

I am not going to insult anyone. Everyone has different opinions about regulations to protect buyers of products. Think of the lead in paint, on toys, think of mercury in our waqter and in the fish we eat. Think of the thousands that were killed in unsafe mines, during the las century. If buisnesses could be trusted to do the right thing and build the best and safest product possible without poisions and unsafe fasteners, etc. there would be no need for regulations. BUT, they can’t be trusted, so they have to be regulated by a disinterested party. So enter the government. Yes the government goes overbord, so there needs to be some checks and balances on the power of the government to write and enforce regulations. But it would be foolish to throw the baby out with the bath water.
The reason we have had junk bonds “melt down” and “housing bubble bursting” was because of deregulation. If the regulations had not been removed by Congress and the Administrations in power at the time of deregulation, the melt down could have been prevented, providing that the regulators had not been bought off by the banking industry.

TML – I call them idiots because they are so sure that their assertions without proof are facts that cannot be denied or that everybody knows they are true. They are idiots because they cannot see that they are not dealing with facts but just opinion.

      • Mark in LA

Oh and they are also idiots because they are devoid of any logic. For example “FreedomFigheter” barking about Obama and GE as a response to talking about the low effective corporate tax rate and how lowering it won’t do a thing to stop GE from moving jobs offshore. Did that post make any sense to you?

    • Aurelio

Sir, please re-read the article. He’s advocating for more government control over the economy. I didn’t agree much with Reagan, but one thing I learned from him I have carried ever since: the government is not the solution, the government is the problem.
Every problem facing any country in this planet is due to that fact.

  • http://deleted Claire

Will this hatefulness ever end? All anyone has to do is vote him out. Did anyone hear about the Tea Party in Hutchison, Kansas–they referred to Obama as a skunk—half-black and half-white. When I heard this, I thought of his little girls. I wonder if they hear all this hate–it would be hard to shield them from some of the inflammatory garbage heard on radio/TV. I will not call any U.S. president names–Democrat or Republican.
Yes, he should have worked on the economy/jobs the minuute he stepped into office instead of concentrating on health care reform. Now, nothing will be accomplished since the Repubs are against all legislation put forth. If the Repubs gain control they will pass legislation that they voted against earlier. If the Dems gain control of the House, Senate they will do the same thing. It is a vicious circle. Nothing more than a power play between the two parties. This is disgusting. What a way to run a country—into the ground, literally. Communism? Marxism? Socialism? Dictatorship? Take a good look at all the candidates from both parties. This is not one-sided. Both parties have “backers” that are seeking their own agenda, these backers want politicians elected that will do their “bidding.” The earmarks, the lobbyists, etc. will never end. Honest government? It will never happen, not when there are elected politicians from both parties that constantly work against each other for the so-called “benefit” of their own party. Divide and conquer is the name of the game and America is the loser. Expect more of the same regardless of who is elected. I want my money back too, especially since it has been taken from me by both parties for their pet projects that benefit only their backers.

Obama is a prefabricated puppet of the elite NWO.

Obama’s job is to finish destruction of the American economy.

Universal Healthcare – then overload the system with illegal aliens

Cronie Capitolism – reduce faith in system, collapse dollar, cause run on banks

Lawlessness – Holder running guns to Mexican drug cartels – to undermine Americans right to bear arms. Far more under this

The list goes on and on and on and on…

Hey Laus…, you say: “If somebody in America dislikes Obama its because he is a NWO puppet destroying the lives of millions of Americans to bring on his New Word Order for Lucifer.”

Lucifer is pretty much a part of christian mythology and I don’t buy into that brutal religion.

Quite frankly I don’t want MY country run by a bunch of religious folks who will be comperable to an American Taliban. Religion should be OUT of government.

        Rob

      • T Johnston

No, you got that backward, government should be out of religion.

      • Lokiare

I completely agree, we need to get religion out of politics. go to youtube and search ‘bohemian grove full’ watch the pagan ritual they do and then research who attends bohemian grove. even if you don’t believe, they do and they are willing to sacrifice two billion people too… i don’t know about you but i would rather have religious people in charge that want peace and love myself…

Forgive me for intruding on all of this unfortunate argumentation folks, but isnt this article about how BHO sees a threat to his”higher form of gubment”through his fictitious account of capitalism?
You are being subtly subterfuged by the black scientists, who think communism is great and America sucks.
They are effectively duping you into quarreling over the same old arguments in order to draw your attention away from the stated goal. Which is to refute BHO’s idealistic take on capitalism, and re-energize the interest of those who cannot yet process the fact that communism is a failed form of rule.

Dont let them control the dialog, and dont give in to arguing with democratic socialists about why their system doesnt work.Provide as you do,clear examples of socialistic gubment failure, but do it by attacking BHO,and not those who intend to draw you away from your objective.

There is a reason that around the entire world,in every first world country, governments regulate their capitalistic economies and have gov’t policies that moderate and control it’s effects…it’s simply because uncontrolled, unregulated capitalism DOES NOT WORK! Sure,it works in the short run and can work well for the top 1%,but not for most of the people in the long run. Gov’ts don’t control and regulate capitalism for their benefit but rather to maintain an economy that doesn’t lurch from boom to bust while leving human workers in it’s path.
People like Robert Ringer and most Repubs should look at a little history to understand why we have to control and regulate the economy.

Obama a collectivist?? What a freaking joke! He’s one of the most conservative Dem presidents we’ve had. He’s been trying to get the system to work for more Americans for the past 3 yrs, something the Repubs aren’t interested in,since they are the puppets of the wealthiest elites in the country. If the “Healthcare System” in your purported “1st World Countries” is so great, why do the leaders of those countries and their affluent citizens always come to America for Major Medical Treatment?

It took my cousin in London over A YEAR to get knee replacement surgery, while here in the U.S. it takes about TWO WEEKS!

I’m a 2nd Generation American, with the vast majority of my family still in the “1st World Country” of Great Britain. Go blow your smoke somewhere else, because around here WE KNOW it’s nothing but BULLSH!T>>>

      • Robert Smith

From GR: “If the “Healthcare System” in your purported “1st World Countries” is so great, why do the leaders of those countries and their affluent citizens always come to America for Major Medical Treatment?”

Because if you can BUY it there are plenty of American doctors who cater to the rich. It’s that simple.

Unfortunately that isn’t available to most Americans.

BTW, one can also buy excellent medical care in India if you have the cash.

        Rob

      • denniso

You can also get good treatment in Mexico for about a third the cost here. We don’t have a shortage of dr’s who will do about anything for a pile of money,we do have a shortage of good, affordable care for working people w/o insurance or even good insurance.

      • Brad

        RS,

WTF are you talking about, again spouting complete and utter none sense. Lets see my father has had one partial and three complete knee replacements within the past 20 year’s and the only reason he has to get them replaced, they wear out. Yes my old man has insurance to include his disability and SS and to top it off he’s retired military so he’s entitled to VA and Tricare benefits.

      • Wyatt

Communist rhetoric , sounds like you’ve been brainwashed pretty good . America was built on free enterprise , and that free enterprise system helped win two world wars , not to mention helped keep the rest of the free world free . It has already been shown that Communism does not work , except for those in power who skim right off the top . This country would not have survived as long as it has were it not for a free enterprise system .
As for Terrell, I don’t know what your analogy of Bill and Jose’s brakes has to do with being a good or bad American . Sounds like typical Occupier double talk and bs. If Jose came to America, legally and did not sneak in illegally, then he is just as good an American as Bill. If he rides around with bad brakes he is an ill-responsable one, as would be Bill for the same offense. Just remember, we don’t ask people to come here, there are no posters saying come to America we will make you rich. People come here for the chance to become better off than they were in there native lands. America offers only one guarantee, and not that of being sucessful . Your only guarantee is that you have the right to fail . You can be rich or poor if you work hard to acheive your goal .

      • Robert Smith

Wyatt sayd: “America was built on free enterprise , and that free enterprise system helped win two world wars , ”

Yes, free enterprise where THINGS were produced. The current corpotracy is NOT free enterprise. It’s moving money around on paper extracting it from the middle class as insurance investments are stolen, retirement funds are stolen, etc.

If we really had free enterprise I’d support it. I can NOT support the current crop of thieves.

I have lived under “Universal Health Care” in the U.K. It is a great system providing you don’t become ill or old. Good luck on getting into a hospital. The Physicians were mostly from Pakistan, India, Jamaica as the British Physicians had emigrated to Canada and the USA. Past 65, they pretty much wrote you off.

Folks, the fact that Barry Husseins community organizing skills are being used right before your eyes has eluded you.
Talk about how he has gotten the college edumacated folks to round up hobos, the psychologically afflicted, the dope smoking ne’er-do-well’s,and given them a voice by the tactic of union organizing.
Talk about how those same folks have gone out into the streets and challenged the intelligent voters of America to a game of politically correct behavior.
Palooking each other in parks, urinating and defecating wherever they go,throwing rocks like school children, breaking windows and spoiling good citizens way of making a living in the downtown areas.
In an effort to stop capitalism on the waterfront, they go to the ports, dragging behind them the silent reproach of a million tearstained eyes. This is Barry husseins form of gubment, that they are bringing an example of to the livingrooms of America.
Your job, should you choose too accept it,is merely to point this out to the general public, who for the shouting and posturing, often get confused by the spectacle of it all.
It should be easy to point these new tendencies out to the public at large, and use that defense as a political hammer to do in your opponents.
But you still sit on the edge of the sandbox and let them tempt you into childish argumentation over their clearly marxist approach to life in general.
Just point out the fact that this new movement could be right outside the door of the average citizen, and you wont need to worry about Barry Hussein and his bunch of marxist rebels very long.

Robert Smith–I heard the health care reform doesn’t go in effect until 2014. Dead and dying? This has been going on for years. How can anyone afford health insurance when the prices skyrocket every year. Go after the pharmas, the doctors, the hospitals and complain to them. They are the ones that have taken America for a ride, along with their politician friends.

    • Barbara

I’d have to agree with you about the verbage although I’ve not heard it but…..this is elementary compared to the viciousness that the liberals and liberal media convey to the public about any conservative. Look how they treated Sarah Palin and her family. I’m sure the Obama girls didn’t miss that and unfortunately the list is endless. I wonder how the “girls” enjoyed their father’s friends calling opponents “son’s of bitches”……liberals have no morals and conscience….it’s time real civility returned to the white house.

      • Robert Smith

And do you think Newt is going to do that!!!!!!

Gingrich as the guy who took point on the lack of civility in Congress when he was there. That is pretty much where it all started.

Do you honestly believe that Sarah is capable of running America? She couldn’t even get Brystol to listen to her on that abstinance thing. Ain’t much closer than mother and daughter but Sarah failed in a mission she is trying to charge others with.

      • Ted Crawford

It might serve you better to research Mrs. Palins record Robert! She didn’t defeat an incumbant Democrat, she defeated an incumbant Republican!
She also took on Big Oil! Her stance was that the Natural Resources of the state were the property of the people. If Big Oil wanted to harvest them, the people of Alaska deserved compansation, They get an Annual Royalty check!
She next told them they would either develope their leases in a timely manner or lose them. They can no longer sit on them and try to starve the people of their royalties! She actually did quite a bit of good for the people of Alaska!

      • Don

AMEN to that Ted, i know because i am one of those Alaskan’s, Sarah is exactly what this country needs and anyone that don’t agree has a right to move to some other country !!!

      • Aurelio

Rob, Newt is a hypocritical opportunist, and Sara Palin doesn’t have the experience nor the insight to be President. What this lady was trying to say is – why the offenses? Sara is not my candidate, but certainly is a decent woman who deserves to be respected like anybody else. The political attacks coming from the left remind me of the politics of a Banana Republic.

      • Don

Aurello i agree with most of what you have said but you are wrong when it comes to Sarah !

      • Brad

Talk about civility RS, all you need to do is look at Nancy Pelosi, was that witch ever civil? I think not; when she said we have to pass this bill to find out what’s in it, she cast her soul into the fire with that statement.

      • Aurelio

Maybe I didn’t express well when I said that Sara Palin did have the stuff to be a President. I believe,at this point, that any woman would make a better President than any man. What I meant is that she hasn’t had the opportunity to gain experience at the federal level, nor in foreign affairs. To be more specific, she’s not yet “seasoned”, for the job. This country went crazy and elected a “community organizer” as President, and now we see the results.

      • http://deleted Claire

Barbara: And the Republicans have civility? Give me a break. They all spew their hateful rhetoric. Party affilitaion means nothing when it comes to hateful diatribe. They are all guilty.

    • Cathie

Claire, I agree with alot of what you say. BOTH parties need to be held accountable for what they have done to America. It is all about power! The party in power will do whatever it takes to stay in power, and the other party will do whatever it takes to gain power. And “power” includes money. I’ve seen too many public servants go to DC with the promise of change and the only thing that changes is their own bank account! But, regarding the “skunk” statement, are you sure whoever in the Tea Party said that was referring to the fact that Obamma STINKS as a President? Did they actually say “half black, half white”? I was not there and have not seen it, so don’t know.

      • Robert Smith

Aren’t you kinda splitting hairs Cathie?

The fact is that insults aren’t going to accomplish much and the extreme right needs to be held accountable for their advocacy.

Why should corporations be allowed to pay taxes in Switzerland rather than here where the money is made? That’s money out of MY pocket.

      • CP

Vagabond, the comment was made, or would not have taken on such a life as it has. In this case, she is not the first one to have questioned it, and Obama is not the first to be called that, some even by blacks instead of whites. I do agree that he has TRIED to do what he sees as best for this country, and a lot of bigmouths disagree with him, so have set out to block what they can’t do away with altogeher. I have studied some of the effects of big business working in an uncontrolled envirionment, and trust me, you don’t want to live there unless you, yourself, are a business owner. Even management barely squeaks by, but they do manage to keep from owing the company store more than they can ever hope to repay, unlike the men and women who actually do the work.

      • GRusling

Sorry CP. Obama was referred to as a “skunk” (it’s called “satire”) but all the rest was nothing more than chit-chat in the aftermath of that reference.

In case you still don’t get it, being a “skunk” refers to the fact that he’s half white, half black and everything he touches STINKS!

That’s a pretty apt description of him and his policies and it’s NOTHING compared to some of the things THE LEFT called Sarah Palin…

The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. When will the duluded American voter get it? There is no difference in the Repubacrat or the Demopublican. They are two peas out of the same pod. Both owned by elitist multi-national corporations. We will never have control of our coutry until corporations, lobbyists, and buig money are taken out of the voting process and we have a strong grass roots third political party. As long as we are ruled by the present duopoly, my vote or yours means nothing. They pick the candidates with the hundreds of millions spent on a chosen candidate’s campaign. The elite (who rules the country) can and do buy any law they want. They also own the Supreme Court, otherwise how could a non-breathing corporation be called “a person”.

There’s no point in pretending that capitalism [a misleading term coined by socialists] is perfect. However, what can’t be stressed often enough is the FACT that it is Washington’s CONSTANT MANIPULATION of capitalism that keeps it from doing what it does so well.
Enter a manipulating, jive turkey narcissist from Chicago, whose need for constant praise is pathological, and America reacted like a spooked deer in a car’s headlights.
Actually, America’s response has been more like a deer that has been shot by a hunter. That is, time has run out for the deer. To make a contrived, bad situation even worse, the Self-Anointed Con Artiste expects America to get down on its knees and ask forgiveness for not seeing him as a political god.
    It AIN’T gonna happen, bubba!
The Anointed Flimflammin’ Jive Turkey has had no small part in America’s planned demise. Obummer’s true role in the last three years is more like a serial killer who tries to get police to think he’s a wannabe civilian ‘detective’ who can help if the police would just get OUT of the way.
I’ve seen this movie before, bubba. The butler didn’t do it. YOU DID IT. The American people didn’t do it. YOU DID IT. When it comes to turning America around and keeping freedom live, it WON’T be YOU, bubba. And I want my money back. This movie SUCKS.

The trading of which you are speaking, was illegal until 1998-99 when Bill Clinton and Phil Graham got together and eliminated the Glass- Steagall Act, which was enacted in 1933. I tried to warn people of the coming economic bubble that was coming. They argued that whatever Democrats did was good for the working man. That action along with the CRA are the two major causes of our economic collapse. In 2001 George W. Bush tried to get Congress to reign in Freddie and Fannie to no avail. In my mind George W. Bush was a Rockefeller Republican, just like his father. Both of them were failed Presidents, but neither one is as much a failure as Barrack Obama.

    • Mike W.

Your right S.C.! The word capitalism is a misnomer. What we are supposed to have is a free and competitive enterprise system. At this moment in time, nothing could be further from the truth. Every business in America is under government scrutiny, regulation & oppressive taxation, save those multinational corporations who benefit from it. If pure competition actually existed, minus government interference, unemployment would be less than 1%, there were would be relatively no inflation and much of what government does provide could be privatized. People would have more choices in such areas as healthcare or even education. Private charities could take care of those in need much better than any government bureaucracy because people would have more money and thus become more generous. Instead, we are straddled with big government that requires more and more money, thus robbing most businesses of capital (in its true definition) that could be used to expand operations and create real, productive jobs.

      • DaveH

        Mark,
You have no idea what you’re talking about. We can talk tax rates all day long and it means nothing. Every company has their own unique expenditures and deductions. Without combing carefully an entire tax return, nobody has any idea of the why’s and wherefore’s of any company’s tax return. If they lose money, they pay no taxes, duh. Remember, it’s called an “Income” tax — no income, no tax.
Most so-called “loopholes” are just tax deferrals, meaning the bill will come due some time in the future.
And most of all, Companies don’t really pay taxe — People pay taxes. When companies are taxed, they have just a few choices. They can raise their product prices (if the market will allow). They can lower their workers’ wages (if the workers will allow). They can lay off workers. They can lose money until they go out of existence. OR, they can give up on America and move their operations somewhere else. None of the above choices are good for the rest of us. Corporate taxes are just one of many ways for the Politicians to extract money from the People.
Here are actual income tax payments from real people. So much for the rich getting away with anything:
        http://www.ntu.org/tax-basics/who-pays-income-taxes.html

      • DaveH

And, Mark, you have absolutely no legs to stand on when it comes to calling other people “brainwashed idiots”. You are just an Ignorant Big Government Tool.

      • Mark in LA

DaveH – the Mises guy who just repeats gibberish he reads without thinking. Hey we even got an old Reaganism:

And most of all, Companies don’t really pay taxe — People pay taxes. When companies are taxed, they have just a few choices. They can raise their product prices (if the market will allow).

Well Dave lets try a thought experiment if you can follow it. I work for a company who pays me a salary. They deduct my taxes and pay them to the government. Without the company, I wouldn’t have that salary because on my own, my skills aren’t that valuable to the guy on the street. Now my employer decides I shouldn’t work for him anymore and fires me and hires my replacement. The same taxes are still being paid to the government but no longer by me. Does this mean the company or the people pay taxes? The issue isn’t really if companies or people pay taxes, it is to show that a simple-minded brain fart out of an Alzheimer’s riddled old fool back in the 80′s has as much relationship to the real world as did most of the stupid things he believed in.

Taxes are a cost of doing business just like paying for raw materiels and salaries. Of course, there has to be a margin above that for the business to stay afloat but that dumb Reaganism was just nonsense propaganda to get stupid people to believe lowering taxes on corporations would result in more jobs when it would do nothing of the sort.

      • unrealistic

A moron is one who doesn’t understand that at the end of the day all taxes are paid by private sector employee’s period. any money the govmnt receives is from PSE’s any corporate taxes is from money the corp. receives from its customers otherwise known as PSE’s. We need to have a voter qualification method.

      • teri

this has been happening since the federal reserve act was inacted and probably before than. This country has been pushed to this economic ruin by many presidents before obama and including obama. you want to save america? vote ron paul in 2012.

      • Mark in LA

Well unrealistics we do need a voter test because if it required IQ above 10 you wouldn’t make it. Again with the idiot nonsense – even extended that only “private sector employees” pay taxes. So police, soldiers, firefighters, and teachers don’t pay taxes?

However, lets play along with your brainwashing about passing taxes on to their customers. In that case the corporate tax is the most fairest of all to the libertarian. Think about it, only the customers of a company pay the tax if we removed all taxes on people and replaced them with corporate taxes. If I want your product I pay tax like a sales tax. With no income tax on people, there is more money circulating in society to increase sales and the companies will make the same profit while paying all the taxes.

This makes about as much sense as your agrument. Again, economics is just worthless babble used to make public policy favorable to some group while hiding the real beneficiaries from the masses who fall for it.

Curious Mark, how does imposing a medical device manufacturers tax help the poor or lower medical costs. Let ME help YOU. It doesn’t. What it does though, is instantly give GE, one of Obama’s biggest donors, the opportunity to regain market share with inferior products. Ge sets up global operations so that they may “export” revenues evenly overseas while “importing” all revenue losses here exploiting all corporate (and quite legal) loopholes. Don’t you find it interesting that now GE is moving it’s medical division from the 150+ yr old Milwaukee site to China? Maybe you are the koolaid drinking fool who just likes to troll sites spreading your my-way-or-the-highway logic. I love your name calling as well. Is that all you got?

      • DaveH

This comment isn’t for Mark, because it takes an actual intellect to understand it.
No matter how government acquires its money, it all comes from all of us one way or the other. And as I stated in a later comment, it’s the spending that counts. Every dollar Government spends is a dollar that could have been invested productively in the private sector. Government consumes wealth. The private sector produces wealth.
Here is an example from real life experience in Haiti:
        http://mises.org/daily/5277

Keep in mind that some companies are operating in a self-serving way by supporting Politicians who then support them with appropriate regulations, etc.. Those companies are Crony Capitalists. Those companies that survive by pleasing the consumers rather than the politicians are Market Capitalists.

      • Jim S

Yes Mark. Soldiers, Police, Firefighters and Teachers do pay taxes. What you fail to acknowledge here is where their salaries originate. The money for their salaries come from the taxes paid by PSEs. They are public employees, therefore they would have no salaries if the PSEs paid no taxes. Many of your arguements can easily be refuted by logic. It’s a shame that there is such a lack of common sense and logic on the left that they can’t think for themselves and see through the smokescreen.

      • Mark in LA

        Concerned citizen brays thus:

Curious Mark, how does imposing a medical device manufacturers tax help the poor or lower medical costs. Let ME help YOU. It doesn’t. What it does though, is instantly give GE, one of Obama’s biggest donors, the opportunity to regain market share with inferior products.

What does spewing nonsense have to do with the fallacy that corporate taxes are too high and causing jobs to move overseas? That is the issue and none of you addressed it with anything other than soundbite nonsense that was off topic. Not only that you pretend that a medical products tax on everybody in the medical products field somehow helps GE sell inferior products because of Obama. Do you guys bother to read any of your posts. Maybe you have a 6th grader at home you can give them to so they can point out how stupid and full of Republican campaign bull they are. The medical product tax is like a sales tax as far as I can see, they impose a 2.5% tax on every medical device sold – big deal. The idea that this will hurt these companies because it will eat into their 80% profit margins in ridiculous.

      • Mark in LA

Well then Jim S do that because like the rest of the people here you produce gibberish with no logic. Especially with this:

Yes Mark. Soldiers, Police, Firefighters and Teachers do pay taxes. What you fail to acknowledge here is where their salaries originate. The money for their salaries come from the taxes paid by PSEs. They are public employees, therefore they would have no salaries if the PSEs paid no taxes. This is so stupid it is hardly worth commenting on. Since the creation of government there has always been some form of taxation. Government would have disappeared long ago if it was net drain on society. Obviously, government at some level is providing services that enhance society and are worth paying for. Once can argue when the balance point is but there is a reason why the first world taxes a lot and the third world very little. As for no salaries without taxes, we alreay have that today – the government just prints money to pay their salaries. But please show us your towering intellect and refute anything I posted with “logic”.

      • Mark in LA

DaveH with another Mises brain fart:

Every dollar Government spends is a dollar that could have been invested productively in the private sector. Government consumes wealth. The private sector produces wealth.

This is just plain stupid. So the government building roads “consumes” wealth while stock traders minuplating the prices to buy and sell at “produces” wealth. The idea is not an either or – it is to show how stupid your black and white Mises world is.

Oh,oh, oh – I know the Mises answer. The “private” sector will build a road and it will be better because the private sector built it and they always do it better because they are the private sector. They will do everything the government will do and do it better because they are the private sector.

      • DaveH

Thank you, Mark. The more you Liberals post, the more the readers can see what Liberals are made of. Your posts accomplish more for waking up the readers than all the lip service I could give when trying to describe the Liberal mentality.

      • DaveH

What an ignoramus you are, Mark. Yes, the road building consumes wealth, since the Government takes those dollars from somebody who could have built the same roads better and cheaper, or somebody who could have paid somebody else with those dollars to build the same roads better and cheaper.
Let’s say one guy1 (private sector) can build a stretch of road as well or better than guy2 (government), and at half the price. If we give the road building contract to guy2 (government), half of that money has been consumed. Get it Ignoramus?
Somebody help me please, I think I need somebody to translate my comment so that even an 8th grader can understand it, so as to make it understandable for Mark.

      • Mark

Government would have disappeared long ago if it was net drain on society. Obviously, government at some level is providing services that enhance society and are worth paying for.

Well, there are several points on this that you seem to conveniently overlook.
        1) Yes, on some basic levels government should be providing some service to its people. Things like infrastructure, which is what gas taxes are supposed to support.
        2) The government doesn’t provide enough services to the productive individual to make the taxes collected worthwhile. This is generally due to the fact that individuals don’t have money to pay groups to lobby for them to their senators and reps. Big crony corps do.
        3) The government has a few things called an army and “law enforcement” that perpetrates violence against those whom the government doesn’t like. Try skipping out on your federal income taxes or property taxes for a year or two & see what happens. Better yet, don’t pay on your student loans for a while & see if a SWAT team knocks down your door. Again, the cards are stacked against the citizen.

In short, the government is a self-perpetuating beast that, I don’t believe, the country actually can do away with. This is for the simple fact that the government is too strong for its citizens to overpower (point 3 above). It doesn’t matter if the citizens of this country want the government around, it is here by force. That’s why the government hasn’t disappeared.

      • DaveH

That is the dumbest thing I think I’ve ever heard:
“Government would have disappeared long ago if it was net drain on society”.
That’s like saying “Theft would have disappeared long ago if it was a net drain on society”.
Liberals can spew their Lip Service all day long, but the proof is in the pudding. Smaller Government vs. Bigger Government:

      • MJG2112

Oh, how I love the “GE is not taxed” example. If GE issued dividends, it certainly was taxed. People tend to forget that C corporations are taxed double on their earnings, First on the company’s 1120 and second on any dividends distributed via the recipient’s 1040. So, any dividends issued are typically taxed at a 49% rate; 35% for the C corp and 15% for the dividends.

I do not know off hand why GE did not pay taxes on its 1120. Did they have a current period loss or a previous period loss carryforward? If so, there was an economic reduction to equity which resulted in the company not paying taxes. (why should a company pay taxes if they lost money?) Again, I am not sure of the reason; does anyone know?

      • MJG2112

It has been a long day.

        35% on the 1120 + 15% on the 1040 = 50% tax rate paid by C corps, not 49%.

      • Mark in LA

        Lets help DaveH:

Let’s say one guy1 (private sector) can build a stretch of road as well or better than guy2 (government), and at half the price. If we give the road building contract to guy2 (government), half of that money has been consumed. Get it Ignoramus?

First of all this “example” doesn’t even make any sense as proof of anything. What if guy2 can do it at half the price of guy1, doh, doh, doh (no proof at all). Hey ignoramous all you posted is a stupid hypothetical. Just because some moron posts it on the Mises institute web site doesn’t make it a fact. You do know the difference between a fact and an assertion. That is why you people are so stupid you don’t know the difference. The Mises institute takes it on FAITH that government is always more inefficient than the private sector. Do you understand that what they assert can never be proven? In fact it can easily be refuted by one anecdote:

I am involved with a lawsuit where our neighborhood group is sueing to stip construction of a charter school in an area already full of schools and adding to the congestion. We have to transcribe all city council meeetings for the court. The city of Los Angeles was the cheapest transcription service by half. Therefore, if you know anything about logical proofs, I need only one counter argument to show that the Mises assertion is bogus and as stupid as you DaveH.

I live in CA and have had business friends move to other states for the very same reasons – high costs of doing business. These corporations need to make money whether here or elsewhere, just as you do in a job. You have the right to move to another job for better pay, haven’t you? Sure, what’s the beef. We need a business climate that allows them to operate here. Corporations carry about 40% of the tax budget. What do you carry? What about the 40+% who pay little or nothing? Is that fair? Definitely not. Please get your facts straight!

Mark in LA writes many things showing clearly that he is liberal and beyond the reach of logic. Bob correctly chastises him for ad hominem attacks on other posters and reminds Mark of the rules. I personally think Mark should be allowed to continue to make such statements (absent actual profanity or threats) as they clearly show the lurkers and others here the nature of the disorder called liberalism.

I also noted that Mark NEVER provided even a single link (Hint you are allowed 1 per comment without being “moderated”) to back up any of his obviously wrong assertions. This is another trademark of liberalism. They make wild claims that often appeal to emotions but provide no evidence. Mostly cause like a certain famous birth certificate, they don’t have any.

For instance Obama claims that capitalism has failed everywhere it has been tried. He gave no evidence while supposedly being the President of the most obvious example of capitalism’s dramatic success.

Hey Mark. Do something novel. Go start a company. Any company will do. See just how much fun it is to deal with all the government regulations and taxes. This “education” will put you far ahead of obama.

      • Mark in LA

vicki – I am not the one making illogical unsupported claims that I think are intelligent. My job is merely to pint out how follish they are. To wit, the initial claim that it was the “high cost of corporate taxes” that cause companies to offshore jobs. Yet, the GE effective tax rate for last year is well known and documented and GE is offshoring with abandon. How then would lowering its taxes a pittance compensate for the savings in labor costs by paying people 50 cents an hour?

Now if you were an actual conservative such as I, you would be against offshoring as is Pat Buchanan and for the same reasons as he.
Instead you swallow the corporate propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

      • Mark in LA

Vicki – I think I have finally figured out how the rest of you people might actually “get” what is going on:

The GE board of directors is having their meeting. The subject of moving another factory offshore comes up. They quickly decide to do it to take advantage of the 50 cent an hour labor. The problem is they realize the PR would be bad since the American plant is still profitable and 70% of their products end up sold in the US market. They get their PR people to come up with a cover story.

One guy pipes up, I know lets blame the government. Another says lets blame the high corporate taxes. Another says lets blame the unions. Soon they all come to a consensus and issue a press release that the “reason” they are moving is because they were “forced” to. Got it. It is a cover story to cover their attempt to line their own pockets with big bonuses for moving jobs offshore.

Mark in LA demonstrates an abysmal lack of understanding of economics by writing:
“It is a cover story to cover their attempt to line their own pockets with big bonuses for moving jobs offshore.”

It is their DUTY to make product at the lowest practical price. Government taxes is just ONE of those costs. Labor costs is just another. Even their bonuses are a cost of business. Now ask yourself why they waited till recently to take advantage of the lower labor costs overseas. Labor costs are higher overseas then in the past. So what is the motivation?

DaveH – the Mises guy who just repeats gibberish he reads without thinking. Hey we even got an old Reaganism:

And most of all, Companies don’t really pay taxe — People pay taxes. When companies are taxed, they have just a few choices. They can raise their product prices (if the market will allow).

Well Dave lets try a thought experiment if you can follow it. I work for a company who pays me a salary.

Nice try Mark in Louisiana. You pulled the typical liberal switch-a-roo verbal misdirection. Either you don’t KNOW you did, or you are just plain lieing, which liberals often do, just like at Bill Clinton and Obama and you will see it is true. This started with Robert the Liberal whining about those EVIL corporations moving their business to more friendly tax environments and then FreedomFighter pointed out that they move out due to burdensome tax rates, which is the truth, American businesses by the HIGHEST CORPORATE TAX RATE OF THE TOP 20 COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. No wonder they move out of here, just like how they are moving out of Leftist controlled California and it’s high tax rates. But I digress, then MarkH made the correct point that businesses don’t pay taxes because they pass the tax to it’s customers, etc. Mark in Louisiana, you COULD NOT refute that, so you enacted some verbal subterfuge with your example of your employer deducting taxes from your pay check. BAM, CAUGHT! I caught you with your sophistry. The subject of the conversation was about CORPORATE TAX RATES, and since you could not counter it, you subtlety started talking about INCOME TAX using your paycheck example. In other words, YOU STARTED TALKING ABOUT A DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT TYPE OF TAX! YOU ACT LIKE SINCE THE COMPANY IS GIVING THE MONEY TO THE GOVERNMENT, THAT MEANS THE COMPANY IS PAYING IT. NO! It came from YOUR CHECK, so YOU ARE PAYING IT. CORPORATE TAXES COME FROM THE COMPANIES INCOME, PROFIT, INCOMING MONEY, ETC., the same money that your paycheck comes from. And if they FIRE YOU, and hire someone else, THEY ARE THE ONES PAYING THE INCOME TAX, NOT YOU or THE COMPANY. They would NOT be paying that money to the government unless they were paying YOU to begin with. The bottom line and point is that YOU are acting like INCOME TAX and CORPORATE TAX are the same thing as deductions from your pay check and IT IS NOT THE SAME. And the very bottom line is that YOU are WRONG.

Freedom posts: ““allowed” wtf they are international corps when tax rate is to high in american they move…”

They should be taxed on the money they make in America. It is America that has supported their ability to make money, not Switzerland. If they make money in Switzerland then the Swiss are entitled to their tax. If they make money in America the tax should be paid here.

        It’s that simple.

You sir, are ignorant of economic history and the facts. I would be very sorry for your state of mind, but it is your fault not mine. Have you ever read “Animal Farm” by George Orwell? Your parents failed in your education. I guess you can blame it on them.

Isn’t that how it is done now. That is the REASON companies are moving overseas. Switzerland corporate taxes are lower.

“ To conquer, first DIVIDE! “

Such concern for the poor is touching, Mr. Ringer, of course I am confused as much by your confusion as I am by the NEWT, who seems to think that the “dignity of work” which he would like to share with “the poor” somehow applies to him………as if what either of you do, actually qualifies
as “work”? What do you produce, except hot air and divisive rhetoric, BUT
let’s go through your questions and see what happens?

How does increasing America’s debt by $4 billion a day help the poor?

Clearly you you can not deny that the primary use for the poor, historically has been the opportunity to be used as “cannon fodder”, in this case to serve
the interest’s of the oil companies, at tax payer expense. Now while it is true
that none of this “work” is productive in any sense, there are a lot of people engaged in this sector known as the “military industrial complex”, and I’m sure that in addition to the people employed in this sector, you have also
benefited having another topic to offer an opinion on?

How do more than 40,000 pages of tax regulations — regulations that take time and money away from job creators — help the poor?

Historically, the IRS has been the largest employer of any government agency……with maybe the exception of the military, and until recent times
just think of all the paper generated to COMPLY. Not to mention the seasonal jobs for companies like HR Block, where the ignorant or
“stupid” poor people, pony up $25. to file an EZ 1040? We will also
add all the accountants and lawyers and lobbyists……again, you are right
because this is also not productive but think of all the hot air you have been able to produce because of it?

How does an $800 billion “stimulus bill” — which turned out to be nothing more than a wish list of political pork — help the poor?

Well the money had to go somewhere, and someone got paid for something,
including you…..and here maybe something “productive” was produced….

How do regulations that prevent oil drilling and coal mining — activities that could create a massive number of jobs and reduce our dependency on foreign oil — help the poor?

Well unfortunately, not so massive a number but here the prevention is clearly a help to the poor……if for nothing else than the health care benefits
of not being subjected to the enviormental contamination……

How does destroying the housing market through government-created failures like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac help the poor?

Is home ownership NOT the american dream? BTW do you think this program included the legally authorised NINJA loans that eventually caused the crisis we are experiencing? Or the greed that produced the
derivatives which created trillions of imaginary wealth whose neccesary destruction is being delayed, while the perpretrators are escaping any responsibility……..so the actual question is: how did this economic BOOM
help the poor? How did sharing it with the rest of the WORLD ( by forcing foreign banks to accept these financial instruments ) help the poor?

The answer is Mr. Ringer, there are a lot more POOR and many like yourself, who talk about productive work without knowing what it is or having actually done anything productive?

But, I shall end this little analysis by offering you a hard FACT which needs to be incorporated into your mindless screed of things to consider…….

“In the period between 1982 and 2002, US steel production grew from
75 million tons to 102 million tons, while the number of steel workers
        declined from 289,000 to 74,000.

In 2010. manufacturing workers in the united states were producing
38 percent more output per hour than in 2000. While output has remained fairly stable, employment has declined by more than 32%.”

These FACTS would seem to suggest that the actual PROBLEM has not been determined…….but maybe you help clear this up for the rest of us?

You see it does not appear that GROWTH is a solution, and this becomes
even more absurd when one attempts to actually define what it means if
it were actually required to be “productive”?

“Do not ask for whom the bell tolls……………”

      • Richard A. Schwartz

What can you expect from a person who never had a job. Only worked for government and democrats. Either he is crippling the country on purpose or accident. Take your choice. The election in ’12 will be brutal. The stakes are high and dummy will have 1 billion to go after republicans. What scares me is the amount of people who are on various government assistance programs. Those people hold the key.

      • Lost in Paradise

It don’t, however if the business climate in this country was friendly like it used to be, business would have remained here. That would help the poor. If Unions did not demand too much for wages, and retirement plans, companies would not seek a cheaper place to operate. Our current government, is like huge fat pig, and its time is come to be slaughtered. The democrats, and liberals are all dying of DUMBNESS. It is incurable Stupid begets Stupid.

      • HarryButtle

You either don’t know what you’re talking about or you are intentionally lying.

By this measure, federal taxes are at their lowest level in more than 60 years. The Congressional Budget Office estimated that federal taxes would consume just 14.8 percent of G.D.P. this year. The last year in which revenues were lower was 1950, according to the Office of Management and Budget.

In short, by the broadest measure of the tax rate, the current level is unusually low and has been for some time. Revenues were 14.9 percent of G.D.P. in both 2009 and 2010.

Yet if one listens to Republicans, one would think that taxes have never been higher, that an excessive tax burden is the most important constraint holding back economic growth and that a big tax cut is exactly what the economy needs to get growing again.

        http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/05/31/are-taxes-in-the-u-s-high-or-low/

        You’re being played.

      • Capitalist at Birth

Talk about being played. Why is the Federal Government spending 25% of GDP? That is the problem, as any first year economic student will tell you. Government does not create jobs by spending more than it takes in. That act in itself destroys jobs. How many books on economics have you ever read? My guess would be very few if any.

      • Aurelio

I got it. What about a smaller government consuming less of our tax dollars? Because the solution coming from the left it is always to raise taxes, and raise taxes, on the rich on the poor, on my mother! We, the people, have to cut our expenses and balance our budgets. Why not the government?

      • DaveH

Harry says “You either don’t know what you’re talking about or you are intentionally lying”.
Why is it that ignorant Liberals must always stoop to personal attacks? Could it be that because they are bereft of facts, they must resort to personal attacks? Of course it is. Federal tax revenues are just one portion of total taxes.
        Here is some reality:
        http://www.usgovernmentrevenue.com/revenue_history

      • DaveH

And Note that Revenues aren’t the whole picture. In the broad scope of things, what really counts are Expenditures. Whether funded by taxes or by borrowing, we will eventually pay:
        http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spending_brief.php

Note that Government spending now accounts for 40% of the GDP.
In the 1950s it was 23% of the GDP. And those of us who lived in the 50s did quite fine without 74% MORE Government.

      • Robert Smith

Capitalist posts: “That is the problem, as any first year economic student will tell you. Government does not create jobs by spending more than it takes in.”

Really… Building roads, dams, parks, and our military doesn’t create jobs? Hmmmmm, guess all that production for WWII didn’t dig us out of the depression either.

I don’t know what economics you studied, but it’s not the same as reality.

        Rob

      • C. R.

Duh! With such high unemployment there are no taxes being paid and that equals less tax income to the Feds. Simple math here, my dear. Go back to school and get your brain filled with real live facts and not drivel.

      • Robert Smith

From truly Lost: “It don’t, however if the business climate in this country was friendly like it used to be, business would have remained here.”

Taxes are lower than since the 1950s. BTW, in the later 1950s the tax rate was 90% for some. Yet America prospered.

Did you hear about the 12 cookies on the table? The CEO took 11. Then he said to the Tea Party guy, “You better get that cookie before the union guy does.”

        Rob

      • Capitalist at Birth

Is that why the first thing JFK did was lower corporate, individual, and capital gains taxes when he took office? If you think that stealing the wealth of anyone is moral, you are not a moral person. That means you are immoral.

      • Doug

Well then I guess we will be fine because the union will have to wait to get their orders to go get the cookie why the free employee who is not part of the Communist Union walks right over and gets it!

      • DaveH

You’re mixing apples and oranges, Robert. When the income tax rates hit 91% (before 1964), there were few people who actually qualified for those higher rates. To qualify for the 91% bracket, a person had to make the equivalent of $2.9 million in today’s dollars.

See here for Federal Income Tax rates back to 1913:

      • steve davis

ROBERT WHY AND HOW COULD AMERICA PROSPER in the 50′s with such a HIGH TAX RATE ????? the REST OF THE WORLD BUSINESS INFRASTRUCTURE WAS BOMBED TO H#LL and BACK THERE WAS NO WHERE ELSE TO PURCHASE GOODS !!!
THIS IS WHAT YOU LIBS SEEM TO FORGET CONVIENTLY was their any industry left in Germany after we were through ?? no ,Japan ?? germany too care of the english industry with the blitzkrieg and what industry russia had (how ever backwards it was ).WE WERE THE ONLY SHOW IN TOWN !!! EVEN AN IDIOT can sell widgets if the competition is sitting in a smoldering crater !!!

      • Robert Smith

From Capitalist: “If you think that stealing the wealth of anyone is moral, you are not a moral person. That means you are immoral.”

But taking wealth through taxes from those who have not produced anything except paper to achieve that wealth…

You are confusing those who earn wealth by producing a product and those who steal it.

Last I heard stealing wasn’t “moral.”

        Rob

      • DaveH

And the country prospered in the 1950s because the Government Spending (Taxes + Borrowing) was much a much lower portion of the GDP than it is now:
        http://www.usgovernmentspending.com/spending_chart_1950_2011USb_13s1li011mcn_F0fF0sF0l_US_Federal_State_Local_Spending

In 1950: Total Government Spending was $72.7 Billion; GDP was $293.7 Billion. Government Spending was 25% of GDP.
In 2010: Total Government Spending was $6,419.5 Billion; GDP was $14,551.8 Billion. Government Spending was 44% of GDP.

Thank you, Robert, for admitting that the country prospered when Government was much smaller.

      • JeffH

Robert, what you forgot to mention was that the union took all 12 cookies which meant that the CEO had to increase production to make up for the unions greed which increased production costs which meant an increased cost to the consumer which means the consumer must decide whether to spend the extra money for the same product or seek out a cheaper alternative. The CEO attempted to move the company to a “Right to Work” state but the NLRB and the government wouldn’t allow the CEO to move. The NLRB arbitrator just happened to be a former union president who’s former union has donated to date $600 million to the political party of choice and was appointed by the administration as the lead labor czar.

What is your concern for the poor?
You have jumped on the “savior of the poor” bandwagon along with the rest of the Socialists/Humanists/Leftits or whatevers to make yourself a good living by supposedly helping the poor?
The poor did not ask for your help but the lazy did.

      • DavidL

Jesus said help the poor and needy. The Koran says help the poor and needy.

      • Nadzieja Batki

Go reread the Bible and the Koran. They do not tell you to be busybodies or meddlers in other people’s lives. If you read correctly, the fields and the orchards and vineyards were not to completely harvested. The poor were to go to work and gather the remains. How much they gathered was at their own discretion to keep, to sell.

      • Firefly

Yes, widows and orphans (those unable to work would be considered here too) but nowhere did Jesus say “Give your money to government and let them do it for you!”) Has it not occurred to anyone that God has chosen the Democratic party and a few Republicans and Barry Soetoro to be the ones to punish the world for all it’s sin and evil (not just the USA but the world) just as God used the enemies of Israel to punish them when they insisted upon living in sin and doing their own thing? Our greed and avarice and immorality have far surpassed Ancient Israel and we are all living on borrowed time.

NO ONE is going to be UNAFFECTED by the Hand of Righteous Judgement that will soon be felt upon the USA, and the earth. (God is always there if you turn to Him for guidance and direction but even the Bible says He chastises those He loves – so they will learn). The 30, 60, or 90 years you live here will be gone in a day (ask anyone over 80 if you don’t believe this) and then you will discover the truth. In the meantime must we leave this country in a broke and broken condition so our children and their children will be no better off than the rest of the world? Already tens of thousands leave the USA every year, are we trying to make it millions? If so, then why do we have open borders and allow millions in to replace them?

WAKE UP PEOPLE! You don’t have a lot of time to prepare – for anything! Many are saying that next November’s election will be the most important OF OUR LIVES! Will we turn to socialism and end up as poor as Cuba or will we return to the God of our forefathers and His righteousness and rebuild our broken land? There seems to be little middle ground left. Do we have a year, three, five? I have no idea but the owners of the FED, and the Congress, have already created the conditions that will result in painful inflation and that is going to hurt everyone, the poor most of all. It has already begun in the price of food. Laugh at all this if you must but copy this and save it and you will one day remember that you were warned. May God help those who care!

Jesus said, DavidL, to help the poor and needy with your own money, NOT other peoples’ money. To help with other peoples’ money, David, is not Compassionate but instead THEFT.
Besides that, it just doesn’t work. Taking money from one group of people and distributing it to another results in the former group working less, and the latter group working less. So we get fewer goods and services, and we all get dragged down.

Hell just the money they have to put in the politicians organized crime unit is enough taxes. But here is something you should think of the more you tax the corporation the more they raise the price of their goods. Basic economics but then simple answer are way over the head of you highly communist educated liberals! The Federal government and many state and local governments are nothing but organized crime. You don’t have a clue how real life works. Perhaps you would like to take yourself and family to another country that suits your ideas or lack thereof. America has always tried to take care of the poor, but there are enough lazies out there on supposed “entitlements” that are not such, but our charity, who have no desire to get up everyday and go to work. Just take a poll on the streets where you live of those panhandling, and lying around all day eating, drinking, and reproducing on our dollar but when offered a job, say no way! I have done this and you should too so you know truth and fact from media hype and lack of thinking and reasoning on your. In other words, back up your statements with facts, not ideals of utopia (which by the way would not work in real life). The Constitution grants each of us legal citizens in America life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Nothing more, nothing less, which means get out there and do something for yourself and not look to your neighbors to take care of you because you don’t want to. Having lived in other countries, the poor there just lie down and die. We do try to avoid that in America. You just do not want to admit you know nothing about anything important.

      • Robert Smith

From CR: “Perhaps you would like to take yourself and family to another country that suits your ideas or lack thereof.”

No thanks. Many other countries do have theocracies and I want no part of religion running government.

That includes the American Taliban, the extreme religious right. Maybe I should go back to spelling that ” religious reich.”

        Rob

      • Aurelio

The question should be: Why the poor is poor, when the individual is not disable, or extremely old and frail? The ones who went to school and finished instead of dropping out, made it. The ones who got here from a communist country and worked hard, and saved, prospered. I worked two full time jobs for more than 15 years, until eventually saved enough to open my own business, while teaching myself 4 languages and becoming a first class translator. Poor people in the United States are millionaires compared to the same person in other countries.
I come from a communist society where the government owns everything, including the people. People that only have known hunger, despair, and total hopelessness; whose only hope is to escape one way or the other, even if it means the possibility of drowning in the ocean or being eaten by a shark. A stagnant economy since January 1959. The former Soviet Union tried this for about 70 years, and had to drop it; so did the Chinese, and even the Vietnamese. For some people in America to even conceive the notion of anything else, but capitalism, is just evidence of sheer ignorance. History teaches about the mistakes of the past, and Geography, about where that tragedy took place; two very important topics that people prefer to ignore. Confucius used to say: it’s very dangerous when a misinformed mind gives an opinion.

      • DaveH

Good questions, Robert, what have you learned from the Bush Wars? Did you criticize Obama’s Unconstitutional excursion into Libya?
What have we learned from the Gulf spill?
We learned that instead of a quick response and letting foreign companies help us with the cleanup, Obama would rather play politics. We learned that an oil rig had a rather suspicious rare failure:
        http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/22667
We learned that an entire industry relatively devoid of Union workers could be shut down, based on a rare accident, by the Unilateral decision of a President. Thus putting thousands of workers out of work at a time when the economy is dragging.
What have we learned from taxes going to Switzerland rather than America?
We’ve learned that productive human beings who have invested their money in businesses will only take so much abuse before they go elsewhere.

My brothers, after very short working adventures are both on “dissability?”, and my sisters never left the entitlement fold!
I recently retired from a job that provided my family with a good lifestyle, and now my wife and I with a decent retirement income!
Sympathy KILLS, Empathy- BUILDS! Huge, huge difference!

Ted, you should be proud of yourself. It takes courage to break away from a culture of dependency, because culture is very much like brainwashing; “you live here, and this is what you are”. We don’t choose our biological make up, nor our name, nor our religion, not even our culinary taste, all of it is given us; therefore, the ghetto is not a geographical location, it is a mental attitude. And you brought down those walls!

      • George E

        Ted,

Great story. Thanks for sharing. That’s one of the great things about America. If you want to improve your condition, and you work at it using some intelligence and sense of decency and ethic, you can succeed here. It isn’t easy, and doesn’t come quickly to most people, but with perseverance and drive it will happen.

      • MJG2112

        Ted:

At the risk of being redundant, I also want to thank you for relaying your story. Welfare is a critical component of a governmental system and I do not believe even the most conservative of conservatives would advocate completely removing this societal safety net. However, as you and others have pointed out, welfare is designed as a temporary stop gap measure to be used only until a person is able to bootstrap him or herself out of temporary bad times.

However for many welfare today has become somewhat analogous to drug usage. It can change a person’s perspective from being an independent productive citizen to an addict who is dependent upon her or his dealer (politician) for a weekly fix. Politicians (or dealers) typically do little to break the addict’s habit as the addiction becomes a power base to the elected parasites.

        Rob:

It doesn’t. Lower the corporation tax rate and let those companies build and prosper here in the United States. We have constructed a Berlin Wall to keep business inside here. It didn’t work for East Germany and it won’t work to keep even companies hostage.

      • MJG2112

What many do not realize is that corporate taxes are part of the company’s cost structure and as such, corporations may be viewed as not actually paying taxes. Instead, corporations attempt to pass their tax assessment to the consumer through higher retail prices. However, foreign companies with lower corporate tax rates and / or lower labor rates tend to have a competitive advantage in pricing that in some cases results in US companies being forced to absorb their inefficient cost structure.

        So, what does this mean?

        1. If the corporation is able to pass 100% of its tax into its retail prices, the end consumer is the one who actually pays the “corporate” tax. This pass-through has no bias among economic classes which results in the poor shouldering a disproportionate amount of the “corporate” tax (wealthier individuals have a much higher savings / spending ratio)

        2. If the corporation is not able to have 100% of its tax included in its retails:

        a) Other internal costs will be reduced (i.e. labor reductions through pay increase limitation / freezes, higher production standards, changing to an overseas-based operation) and/or

        b) Earnings will be decreased resulting in lower stock values and a higher capitalization rate (higher costs) for public corporations. These higher costs result in greater inefficiency.

        c) Of course lower stock values / returns also have a significant impact upon a company’s (and state’s) ability to fund pensions through investments, insurance rates (including health care cost), and an individual’s ability to retire, and many other issues.

These are just a few issues related to corporate taxes. In reality, there is an extremely complicated relationship between individuals and corporate entities but there is no denying that this relationship does exist. The old saying “What is good for GM, is good for America” is very much as true today as it was during the time of its origin

without government intervention the greed of the rich will destroy the the honest hard worker. for the the of money is the root of evil

      • Navigator30

You are forgetting that the Housing debacle came about because of government insistence that banks make loans to folks who had little chance of paying them back with the assurance that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac would take those loans off their hands. Did you forget that Bernie Madoff survived TWO SEC audits and got a clean bill of health despite having been warned that he had to be running a scam to promise those kinds of returns?

      • Robert Smith

No, Navigator, you are wrong. “Conservative de-regulation left Wall Street with no cop on the beat. Bush’s conservative appointees rolled back regulation and oversight of banks, insurers, lenders, and credit raters. – The explosion in subprime loans after 2000 were made by unregulated mortgage companies, and the vast majority of them were issued to higher income borrowers, not low- to moderate-income borrowers.”

        That’s from: http://howdidthishappen.org/myths/

I suggest you read the entire page.

        Rob

      • DaveH

No, Robert, YOU are wrong. The Housing Bust followed a confluence of Government intervention that started with the Community Reinvestment Act, and was spurred on by various other Government follies including easy credit from the Federal Reserve.
There has been no Deregulation, only different regulations by a meddling Government:

      • Mark in LA

What does Bernie Madoff have to do with the housing bubble other than to show that government regulators were too cozy with the people they regulated and did not do their jobs – that is regulate them.

      • Capitalist at Birth

That is called crony capitalism. If you want to see an explosion of crony capitalism, simply look at what is going on since Obama took office. Read “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. An average reader can finish the book in less that two days.

      • DaveH

Or read the book “The Big Ripoff: How Big Business and Big Government Steal your Money”:

Money is not evil, only people are. Money is only a tool, just as is a hammer, a saw or a gun

      • Robert Smith

Apparently some on the extreme right worship money more than their god.

It has to be true because by much of the christanity I’ve seen they take care of the poor. Unfortunately those on the right seem to not care.

        Rob

      • Doug

Where do you come up with the BS Robert you know Smith was one of the original families on the Mayflower maybe you should go back and read about the history of the name. You think it the governments job to take my money and decide which charity should get it? I don’t think so we see how that’s been working and the fact you think that only Right Wingers are rich you better pull your head out of the craves you have. The only charities liberals fund is through other peoples money and if they do cough off some of their own then they want to control you and tell you exactly how to use that money. Robert you are the poster child of what is wrong with American (MOST WANTED LIBERAL SCUM)

      • Brad

And the same can be said about liberals and Democrats. I believe its been proven; individuals on the right tend to give more to charities and groups in need 75% of the time where as individuals on the left give only 25% of the time.

      • DaveH

Apparently, Robert, you are in that group of Money Worshipers.
Why else would you and your fellow Liberals be so intently focused on other peoples’ money?

      • Doug

Really now and the union is your friend and protector right? Again here you have a bunch of morons taking your money living high on the hog while you work your ass off and they sit on their ass and take your money! Then they take some of your money and put it in a bigger organized crime unit then the union the government the top organized crime unit of the US. And yet they all work for the biggest crime and lowest piece of crap Soros you people are stupid stupid stupid.

      • Jeff Potts

That historically is not true. Take for example the great fortunes built in our own 19th Century. The innovations such as telephone, railroads, and the oil industry while creating stupendously wealthy people also lifted the lower classes until in the 20th Century the US became the dominant economic power in the world. Some of those “greedy industrialists” were responsible for Vanderbilt, Stanford, numerous foundations and parks which exist to this day. Have you noticed that Gates and Buffet have agreed to leave their money not to the government but to an independent foundation. Virtually no one trusts the government to spend their money.

      • Mark in LA

Charitable foundations are tax scams for the most part.

      • Brad

        Mark,

Matbe you had better read about this foundation before sticking your foot in your so called face. http://www.gatesfoundation.org/Pages/home.aspx

      • Mark in LA

Forget what Gates posts about himself it is irrelevent when it comes to taxes. Here is the problem, Gates has billions in capital gains he cannot touch without paying large amounts of taxes. By putting them into his foundation he gets a tax write-off and the use of his money while it is in the foundation. Remember some of his “charitable” giveing was to donate old Microsoft software at full face value and take the tax writeoff.

Just becaues some of the money actually does some good does not mean it is not a tax scam. The Hughes Medical Foundation was created for exactly that reason to shelter the profits and assets of Hughes Aircraft company.

      • C. R.

Frankly, I have found the greed of the worker to be worse than any corporation. I do think stockholders and Board of Directors need to reduce greatly CEO incomes and no severance pay of any kind when the company has not succeeded or grown. But greed is everywhere and is part of every human being. Someone wants something someone else has but doesn’t want to have the same, but rob the other. Socialism and communism. Move to one of those countries and let us know how it goes.

      • DaveH

While many CEOs and other company officers are probably overpaid, unless we are shareholders in those companies, it really is None of our Business.

      • MJG2112

What about government? Government inflows and outflows exceed that of any private company or individual. If money is truly the root of all evil, wouldn’t that make government the most evil of all? (Perhaps to an even greater extend because government also controls the armed forces?)

      • DaveH

And Government is the only entity that is allowed to use force to procure its money. Why is that? Why have the citizens ignorantly given Government license to Steal other peoples’ money? Why have the citizens ignorantly given Government license to kill people without due justice?

    • http://www.RobertwFowler.com Robert Fowler

Capitalism works fine if it is distributed Capitalism. By that, I mean distribute the money through well paying jobs to rebuild the American middle class. Since 1984 Republicans, buisnesses and the Elite have sought to kill of the middle class by moving jobs off shore, decreasing wages, laying off thousands of experienced workers, in order to hire younger educated workers at half the pay of knowledgable workers. Fighting minimum wage, failing to capitlize retirement funds, stealing millions from workers retirement funds, busting unions, going bankrupt rather than pay workers wages that keep up with inflation, while increasing executive pay and benefits from 200% to 700%. Yet workers wages have been stagent or decreased over the last 40 years.
Yes capitalism works as long as the playing field presents a fair playing field to all participants. But executives of public corporations cannot be paid hundreds of millions and the workers paid pennies on the dollars that executives make. No executive should be paid more than 7 or 8 times what the lowest paid worker makes in the same company.
Distributed capitalism works, but greed in the name of capitalism, does nothing but destroy the country’s economy, while the greedy elite continue to rob public corporations.
One other thing, as you kill off the middle class, you are also killing off your customer base. There are not enough elite to buy the millions of cars, boats, airplanes, motorcycles, houses, and etc. that needs to be sold to keep a healthy economy.
