We Are All Terrorists Now

The U.S. Senate is considering a bill (National Defense Authorization Act) that would designate the whole world, including U.S. territory, as a battlefield and subject American citizens in the United States to indefinite military detention without the benefit of trial and to attacks along the lines of the drone assassination of supposed terrorist Anwar al-Awlaki.

Many of you scoffed as right-thinking people noted with dread the consequences of President Barack Obama’s carte blanch “extrajudicial” murder of an American citizen based on the approval of a secret committee. If this bill is passed, then the Rubicon will have been crossed. America will have become a complete and possibly irreversible totalitarian military state.

Scoff again if you must, but do so at your own peril. Consider who the government designates as potential terrorists, according to its own missives: people who oppose Obama’s policies; people who stockpile food; people who oppose one-world government; Christians; military veterans returning from overseas engagements; people unhappy with the government’s actions at Waco, Texas, and Ruby Ridge, Idaho; and people opposed to gun control. The Department of Justice and FBI have even sent a form to military-surplus stores describing how to identify suspicious people and instructing them to watch for those who pay with cash; are missing fingers; have a strange smell; make bulk purchases of ammunition, meals ready to eat and flashlights; or who express a concern about privacy.

Coupled with recent news that police and military are now deploying drones over American cities, it’s easy to see — for those who care to look — exactly where we are headed. In the eyes of our government, we are all terrorists now and subject to permanent imprisonment or extermination.

    Once you are accused and or charged, you lose your status of “lawful resident” We already have laws that forbid the active military from operating in the U.S. If Levin is has a problem with the Arabs in Dearborn, Mi. or McCain has fears from the Mexicans in Arizona, I suggest they call the FBI or their state police. Do not turn the military loose on the American citizens. Remember the Patriot Act was not just a Bush agenda item. It was copied from the “Omnibus Counterterrorism Act of 1995″ a Joe Biden authored bill. Both parties are doing everything they can to destroy the Constitution and take our rights. Contact all your Congressmen and let them know that the Tea Party and OWS are fed up and watching. 2012 is the time to clean house of the corruption in D.C.

    I can only hope that most of you will please get with the program very soon, as TIME is running out fast. When they take away the Internet its all over, of what by the way the noted Senate bill S 1867 has that in it, its all rotten to the core the bill needs to be stopped.

    Just for the record, GOD will not save you if you don’t try and save yourself, so stop already with that rhetoric its just plain worthless.
    Do something positive, of what all these feeds will provide you aid on how to fix the problem, as in all of them.

    Its quite obvious who the mindless blowhards all are. I beg you all to Please Stop wasting time on them! Time is short and we still have an open window to fix all the wrongs.

    I’d like to point out that just because the Senate votes out a bill, does not mean the House will go along with it. I suspect that this bill will die it’s much deserved death in the House

      The house has already passed H.R. 1540, but I haven’t found any language like this in it, yet, although i haven’t read all of it as of yet because it is a lengthy bill. I would surmize that there will have to be a comprimize bill with the senate after they pass their version, so who knows what a final version will contain.

Progressives always seem to self destruct and this world takeover will probably wind up with a lot of the big thugs warring with each other over power and killing each other off.       Thanks for pointing out my error. It is the National Defense Authorization Act and is currently under discussion in the U.S. Senate, which voted down an amendment to clarify the language in Section 1031, which is the section that is the most egregious. The article has been corrected.

        Because it is a National Preserve and serves other purposes also. (Native population and wildlife).Shipping should stay out of that region because clean up would be even more disastrous than in the Gulf. If Anwar is ever opened up the oil should be sent down the existing pipeline towards Anchorage.That would be hard to swallow too but a little safer.

        1234 – Waives the Prohibition of buying military goods from China “if goods are critical to the DOD needs and are otherwise unavailable.

    SEC. 1032. REQUIREMENT FOR MILITARY CUSTODY.

    (b) Applicability to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens-
    (1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States.
    (2) LAWFUL RESIDENT ALIENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to a lawful resident alien of the United States on the basis of conduct taking place within the United States, except to the extent permitted by the Constitution of the United States.

      Senators Rand Paul and Mark Udall have tried getting the bill amended to remove or alter the language. The ACLU is also fighting it.

      Plus, you have a major U.S. Presidential candidate (Newt Gingrich) who advocates stripping Americans of citizenship if they speak out against the government and a President who shown he has no qualms about murdering U.S. citizens without trial.

      The same people who once said the Patriot Act will be used only against terrorists are now telling you that this bill will only apply to terrorists. Bah! This is a fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me, scenario. I wasn’t fooled the first time and I won’t be this time either.

      This bill also overturns 133 years of precedent of the posse comitatus act.

        As an aside….note the path teh bill has to travel. Also note that the Senate, Congress, nor the WH can override the Constitution. Now..if y’all are suggesting a bill as described in the article will make it through the Congress, the WH AND survive a SCOTUS decision… with the current make up of the SCOTUS being one sided in favor of the corporate and wealthy elite .. we may have a discussion.

        I criticize the Health Care reform because it has the mandate to have insurance…but doesn’t have the public option. Soon, if we are fotunate, we’ll have the public option and the cost of health care will begin to stablize or perhaps even begin going down.

        BTW…the health care reform is constitutional…now we have to concentrate and push for the public option !

        I believe the “mandate” was put into the bill because of the provision that health companies can’t turn you away because of pre-condition. Without the “mandate” people would just wait until they are sick before they buy health insurance and that would put the insurance compnies out of business.

      Notice the word “requirment”. There is no REQUIREMENT to detain citizens and lawful resident aliens in the US indefinetely. Notice that the word REQUIRMENT doesn’t necessarily mean they CAN’T. There is no requirement for me to go out and buy a house. But I can if I choose. Similarily, they don’t have to indefinetely detain citicens but they CAN.

      Americans haven’t always been spoiled children. Americans used to be the strongest, brightest and most innovative. Not to mention the most charitable and caring.

      It was carefully planned to make us the people we’ve become, convincing us that we are to depend on government for everything, that it exists to be a sugar-daddy rather than to protect us from our enemies so we can be free to pursue life in safety from enemy attack. Now, it is government who IS our enemy, and who attacks us on every front, insuring that we are stymied from pursuing excellence.

      Even now, as our government has us sold out to world corporate interests, we continue to look to them for answers. Well, they have one, but we aren’t going to like it. But, if we keep depending on THEM to come up with a solution, we will be too tired, sick, beaten and hungry to argue with them.

      Why not come up with our own solutions? Forget government. Sure, they’ve regulated us to the point where we CAN’T operate WITHIN the system, but hey…let’s come up with our own system. After all, money is what we all agree it is. BigBro will say it’s a chip. What do WE say?

      Do we still have any of the pioneer spirit within us? Where is that rugged, American, CAN DO attitude?

      We need to stop giving away all of our power, waiting for the elite to come up with answers. THEY ARE THE PROBLEM. And their solutions will benefit themselves only, becuause they are afraid that we will recognize that they’ve been setting us up all along.

      BTW, this means also learning to care for our own health, because the medical system is rapidly becoming another weapon against us.

The bill was passed out of committe in a secret closed door meeting and mccain was one of the writers, the other was a dem but I can’t recall his name at this time.This will usurp the constitution and the bill of rights, and civil rights will no longer exist. call your senators now and demand they vote no on this bill, or at least support the Udall amendment to this bill that gives congressional oversight to its implementation, prepare people, things are looking bad for America.

        Lastman- You are so right about both parties. When people talk about the Left & the Right, it just matches up with the marching orders the politicians have been getting for about 100 years. It is too late to go back to the original Constitution. We need a new and better set of rules & regulations to reduce the propensity of criminal elements in the government. I am too old and not smart enough to get it done. Hopefully, there are some smart and honest young bucks to get started to correct the problems.

People best start opening their eyes and ears and pounding on all phone lines and e-mails of both the House & Senate. If those two aren’t the true epitome of corruption in full light I don’t know what is.     You undermined your point by making the Awlaki case part of your argument. Awlaki had left the US and was a commander in a war against the United States.

    The operative historical precedent is in the spring of 1864. Leonidas Polk was the Episcopal Bishop of Louisiana, a West Point grad, and a US citizen. He was also a Lieutenant General in the Confederate Army, commanding a corps in a war against the United States.

    Captain Hubert Dilger, perhaps the greatest artillerist in the Union Army, a mile away, spotted a Confederate headquarters tent, with flags and high-ranking officers, through his binoculars. “Just let me tickle them a little,” he said. He aimed a 20-lb Parrott gun at the location he had spotted and fired. The shell struck Gen. Polk directly in the head, killing him instantly.

    Anwar al-Awlaki was entitled to all the due process General Polk got. And that’s generous, because Gen. Polk was doubtless a much better man than al-Awlaki.

      al-Awlaki’s guilt or innocence was not established in a court, and all you have to go on that he was a terrorist is the word of the government and its propaganda arm, the corporate media. You shouldn’t be so cavalier about accepting the word of the criminal government.

      As to the assassination of Gen. Polk, that was also an illegal act by the U.S. government as was the entirety of the North’s (aka the Union’s) aggressive posture and attacks following the secession of the Southern States.

Even when protesters were calmly sitting or standing you cheered on the police state in spraying and beating them. You rounded them up like so much cattle and thought that was great. Well your demand for “law and order” is very telling in what you would do in imprisoning the populace. To hell with free speech and assembly as long as you can beat the protesters down. Not exactly true. the FAA is drawing up rules and guidelines for the use of drones for industries such as Agriculture, gas and oil pipeline, railroads, etc inspections and monitoring, air emissions testing, traffic monitoring etc. yes, drones can and probably will be used for police … but again, it’s what the GOP was screaming for since 9/11 and the “lead by fear” then GOP administration.

      The right cheered when the Patriot Act was passed…oh how I remember my opposition was denigrated as being “anti American’… and anyone who dared warn about the police powers it granted was castigated and decried. Well…ya got what ya asked for …

      As for the Senate bll mentioned. Who introduced it? Where is it sitting right now? Who are the sponsors? I know, I know. Minor issues …lol

      Finally, the “murder” of a US citizen. Would this be the nutjob in Yemen who was indicted, charges leveled, he was notified and refused to even hire an attorney to deny any charges etc. Who lived in the ME for several eyars and who published videos and rantings against Americans and the US urging terrorist acts? Funny how that may be the current cry…when the arrest and refusal to arraign Padilla was excused as he was held incognito for several years during the Bush administration.

        I very much doubt the provisions…or the Patriot Act found much support amongst the Liberal corwd. I know in the Moderates, there was little support…and much fear because that was the way the Constitution was attacked…via fear.

        Fact is….the Right was the most vocal in attacking our liberties during the Bush Admin. The Right was quick to denigrate anyone who dared voice opposition. No one here is staing support for either the Patriot Act nor this provision as detailed in the article. i am seeing more than a few calling the Right out on their current voicing of evil..when they praised such prior to this administration taking office.

Not only did we protest the original act but we foresaw the possibility for abuse of it in the future and the expansion of it as has happened under obama.       They are already stomping on the 4th and 14th Amendments of the Constitution at the airports every day. Every criminal in America prior to being searches, the police must have probable cause, to seize and examine their belongings, they must have a warrant, they must mirandize him and he has the right to legal counsel. TSA can pluck you from a line without probable cause, search your belongings and confiscate your belongings without a warrant, without mirandizing and without your right to legal counsel. People wake up, do not continue to be sheeple, don’t listen to the government saysing “we’re just trying to keep you safe”….that is bull….this is a test to see how much of your freedoms you will give up in order to “feel safe”, because believe me if a terrorists wants to take down a plane, he will figure out how to do it no matter how much you get groped or radiated.       From what I’ve seen and heard, both the left and the right are against this bill.

      On a related note, about a week or so ago someone on this site posted a link to a site that showed a “No Constitution” zone around all the borders of the U.S. Does anyone have any more info on that? Can that be true, that if you live within, say a hundred or so miles of the coast or the borders of Mexico or Canada we no longer have any Constitutional rights. If that’s true, who put that in place and why wasn’t it a big story on the news? Is that part of the Patriot act? If it is, can someone point to the section where that can be found? Sounds like something totalitarian governments would do. “May I see your papers, please”.

      Both the left and the right complain about losing constutional freedoms. It might be a good thing for both to unite to fight on this issue.

        Yes the 100 mile watch zone is in place and there are drones patroling it now with very sensitive visual capacity from 1000′s of feet above. This drone can see and identify persons standing on the ground. They are permitted to fly at but not over the US/CDN border. This is a travesty of “friendship” and another example of idiot paranoia by the PTB in the US.

        So far, according to a recent video, the visual sightings have no resulted in the apprehension of any illegal border crossing.
        I wonder if evbery boat crossing an international lake is monitored? there are enough lakes and rivers on the border to keep da BOYZ busy.

        Wow, yeah, I googled it and couldn’t believe that this was not all over the news or, at least, the talk shows. Plenty of links came up and I have only had time to check one or two of them. I still am not sure if this is part of the Patriot Act or if ir was instituted seperately by Homeland Security. I’m also really surprised that I haven’t heard more about this on this site since there are so many posters complaining about our loss constitutional rights and freedoms. Hell, this would be a great example of that.

        I didn’t find any examples of police abusing it yet but just the idea of being a U.S. citizen without any Constitutional rights is scary. Has it resulted in any terrorists caught yet.
