MUZAFFARNAGAR, India, Nov. 8 (UPI) — A doctor in India was suspended by the state government after a teenager he declared dead woke up in the mortuary nearly 10 hours later, officials said.
The Uttar Pradesh government said Dr. Pradeep Mittal has been suspended from the Muzaffarnagar district hospital after the young patient he declared dead Sunday revived hours later in the hospital’s mortuary, the Indo-Asian News Service reported Tuesday.
The teenager, identified only as Radhey, 17, was found unconscious in a wooded area Saturday.
“When police officials, along with the hospital staff, were about to begin the formalities of the post-mortem, the youth regained consciousness,” Chief Medical Officer Anand Swaroop said.
“When the state health authorities came to know about the incident, an inquiry was ordered. On the recommendations of a panel constituted to probe the incident, Pradeep Mittal was placed under suspension.”
