Federal Jobs Site Doesn't Work

It may be just the evidence opponents of vast Federal bureaucracy need. A website set up to help jobseekers find Federal positions is wrought with technical errors and simply doesn’t work correctly, jobseekers say.

The website, which is run by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), is full of bugs because officials say there is a massive amount of traffic on the site, according to The Washington Post.

“If a private contractor was delivering this, the government would have terminated them for cause immediately,” Adam Davidson, general manager for human capital management at Oracle, a company that provides payroll and other systems to Federal agencies, said.

The site was originally run by Monster, a private job search site, but was taken over by the Federal government in 2009 to be reworked by the OPM at a cost of about $20 million, according to budget figures.

Some opponents of the government setting up an in-house job site believe that the move locks out private job search companies from being able to post Federal jobs as the government requires agencies to use the system.

    I’ll admit, a lot of things the government does is a failure almost from the start, but then, we have Congress that do not operate as it should either, thats why we get stuck with super committees and everything else that is inferior to progress for the Country.

    The problem with anything the Government does is that there is no incentive for anyone to do anything well or on time because there is no competition. One huge problem in our country is that the civil service has grown out of control in every sense.
    It is essential for our economy that this be corrected in the very near future!

    That is because most federal employees don’t work either , at least in the administrative occupations .

    Out of Work? Here’s a sight that should really get your dander up: USAGC.org haven’t tried it to see if it works but I bet it will work better than oracles sight.

    Spyder, I don’t mean to sound like a complete pessimist, but that would violate a progressive’s #1 protocol. That is, if you DON’T waste money doing something, you need to be re-educated because you’re not acting like a ‘good progressive.’ To a progressive, wasting money is like breathing. It’s a habit that can’t be stopped.

    Keep in mind that one of the many Federal jobs programs is computer programming. Instead of simply using an existing program that has all the bugs out of it and works fine, they insist on writing their own programs to insure that no one can look at their info without their “willing” help.

    Actually, I don’t believe that the feds hiring all the out-of-work people will correct the jobs problem in the US. It simply insures that the people now working will be taxed more to pay for those who now are ‘employed’ by the feds. The fact that they really don’t have anything to do doesn’t mean anything to them.

    This is another one of those times that the government can’t get it right, but the private sector was able to handle it until the government decided to jump in. How sad….

    I think that the time has come for us to all realize that if we require anything to be rendered useless, the best men for the job are the feds and their main man.The slogan goes – Nobody does it worse. I used to think Greenspan and Geithner were kidding and then along came Bernanke. Now I firmly believe that the joke is on us and they are not just smirking, they are actually laughing at us. What next? The abyss grows deeper and nearer.

    Thanks for the morning laugh, Sam. DanB, this topic should be informative to most people who care about government (big, small, good, bad, etc.). At the same time, I am not at all surprised to learn that the prez is associated with a website that is a waste of money, run by mental defectives and probably gave easy money to Obummer’s pre-picked, select friends.
    To me, this is simply another PROOF that jobs mean NOTHING to the useful idiot in the W H. He’ll talk about jobs all day long, but when push comes to shove, he doesn’t give a damn because he’s been ‘that way’ all his miserable life.
    If I’m wrong, someone please enlighten me. From what I see, this administration doesn’t know the difference bwteen a real job and a bj. “The best government that MONEY can buy.” HA!

    I think this speaks more to the beliefs of those running our government. When you believe that the government is the answer to the nation’s problems, your blinders can be quite… thorough. I don’t think that even if you showed them side-by-side how a private system works better than a government agency that they would be able to choose anything other than the government agency. They just don’t get it. I am thinking the only way we fix this is to start stripping away government agencies. To do that we’ll need to elect true conservatives to both Congress and the Presidency. It might take three years still to accomplish (six year terms for the Senate…).
