Couple Seeks Occupy Wall Street Trademark

NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) — A New York state couple has filed to trademark the phrase “Occupy Wall Street” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Robert and Diane Maresca paid $975 Oct. 18 to file for a trademark on the phrase, which has been used by a loose collective of protesters in New York and other U.S. cities, The Smoking Gun reported Tuesday.

Robert Maresca admitted the filing is “something of a gamble.” However, he denied they are attempting to cash in on a movement that largely frowns on consumerism.

“If I didn’t buy it and use it someone else will,” he said.

Maresca said he and his wife would mass-produce “Occupy Wall Street” goods including bumper stickers, umbrellas, shirts and footwear.

I’m torn on this one. One one hand, you could call this an attempt to be an entrepreneur. On the other hand, assuming that demonstrators (friends, like-minded people, etc.) will buy the merchandise, it would make a mockery of demonstrators who are so dumb that they don’t realize that a ‘capitalist’ would benefit from taking their money.
Anyway, I won’t lose any sleep over it. For a while, I wouldn’t be surprised to see demonstrators literally line up to buy ‘something’ that smacks of the current OWS insanity.
It amounts to trying to create a Woodstock-like event. To me, if you were at Woodstock, good for you. If you were dumb enough to march for Soros and Lerner, you are one dumbed-down, pathetic, brick-headed SOB, bunkie. Now, get out there and SPEND, SPEND, SPEND!
