Tyranny Of The Majority

October 25, 2011 by

Tyranny Of The Majority

As liberals go, I actually had a touch of like for Joltin’ Joe Biden in his Senate days. But since he got in bed with the Marxists in the Executive Branch, it’s become increasingly difficult to give him a pass. Even so, I feel compelled to cut Joe some slack by blaming his maniacal remarks on mitigating circumstances — the fact that he’s a bona fide idiot.

Thus, when the Delaware Dimwit said that paying taxes is the most patriotic thing an already overtaxed American citizen can do, it wasn’t out of malice. Truth be known, I don’t believe he has any idea why he says such things. As near as I can tell, he simply appears to be on progressive autopilot.

Now Biden wants to increase the national debt even more by insisting that Congress pass the latest mini-stimulus, warning that if it doesn’t, there won’t be enough police to prevent rapes and robberies. Hmm… how weird. Offhand, I can’t recall a single instance where a law enforcement officer prevented a rape or robbery… but, hey, there’s always a first time.

In any event, whether nonsensical statements like this are the result of stupidity, lack of knowledge or malevolence, be prepared for them to come at you in torrents over the next 12 months. With Republican Presidential candidates taking bites out of each others’ arms, imagine what it’s going to be like when the Democrats take aim at the Republicans’ soon-to-be-known compromise candidate, whoever that might be.

The question no Republican seems interested in asking is: What gives any elected official the authority to increase taxes on American citizens whenever he has an urge to hand money to selected groups of his choosing? The Constitution doesn’t say that it’s the duty of the American citizen to play the role of a docile cow waiting to be milked whenever politicians decide they need more money.

One of the Democrats’ favorite new talking points is that recent polls show that 80 percent of Americans favor a new tax on millionaires and billionaires. Gosh, really? I would never have thought the average person would favor taxing America’s wealthiest citizens. Duh… of course most people would like to see a tax on someone other than themselves. Why not, so long as the government doesn’t tax them?

But, guess what? The Founding Fathers set up the rules of the game in such a way as to specifically prevent America from becoming a tyranny-of-the-majority nation, which is why polling questions about increasing taxes are irrelevant. Every person on this Earth has unlimited desires, but those desires don’t give anyone claim to the assets of others.

Lest anyone forget, America is supposed to be a republic. And in a true republic, the fact that 80 percent of the population favors committing aggression against a minority — including the minority of people who are the most financially successful — should carry no weight when it comes to legislation.

The fact is that majority rule violates the rights of others if it forces them to go along with actions with which they do not agree. Progressives would like us to believe that majority rule is morally virtuous. The reality, however, is that majority rule is moral cannibalism, because it makes it possible for one group of people, simply by being in the majority, to do whatever it wishes to those in the minority. In fact, theoretically speaking, majority rule could validate literal cannibalism.

The basic premise of majority rule is that good is defined as “that which is best for the greatest number of people.” Such a premise, however, is so vague as to be meaningless. Every individual has a unique set of circumstances, unique needs and desires, unique personality traits, unique fears and unique ambitions.

And it is each person’s uniqueness that dictates which actions are best for him. That’s why progressive terms such as social justice and the common good are nothing more than red herrings.

The same moral logic holds true for corporations, since they are the property of individuals, often large numbers of individuals. But some folks in Lynchburg, Tenn., don’t see it that way. Charles Rogers, a 75-year-old retiree and self-described “concerned citizen” of Moore County, where distillery giant Jack Daniel’s is located, recently created a stir when he said: “We are entitled [my emphasis] to more money from the only industry in the county — Jack Daniel’s distillery.”

To which Tommy Beam, general manager of Jack Daniel’s, responded: “That’s not free enterprise, and that’s not what this country was built on. I saw a quote the other day that said that a person used to look at a successful person and say, ‘Now, what do I have to do to become like that?’ Whereas now they might look at him and say, ‘What can I do to get what they’ve got?’”

Well said. Nevertheless, the Moore County Council passed a measure asking the Tennessee Assembly for enabling legislation to put the question of a per-barrel tax on Jack Daniel’s whiskey on the ballot. That’s right, the entitlement crowd in Moore County is coming after its No. 1 benefactor, Jack Daniel’s, the company that put Lynchburg on the map over the past century.

It’s a classic case of tyranny of the majority. Forget the fact that Jack Daniel’s is by far the biggest employer in Moore County. Forget the fact that it’s a magnet that draws 250,000 tourists (who spend money!) each year to Lynchburg. Forget the fact that the company already pays 60 percent of the price of a bottle of whiskey in taxes.

Clearly, the class-warfare battle-cry in the hinterlands is pretty much the same as it is 900 miles to the more sophisticated northeast in the Occupy Wall Street protest: “I want more, so you have to give it to me.” Sounds rational to me.

Move over Greece, here we come.

So, you’re advocating minority rule,is that it ?

    • DaveH

      Did Robert say that?

  • Henry Ledbetter

As David faced Goliath he first said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God.” A few verses later David said,”IS THERE NOT A CAUSE?” The Bible has much to say about thieves and robbers and those that feel they must redistribute the wealth fit the description. How much better to allow each state to keep the money at home rather than sending it to Washington where they keep most of it for a handling fee which should be for our National defense and border control only. It is great to see the talk of getting rid of the present tax system- – -This is our Goliath which must be slain.

    WASHINGTON CROWD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE

  • jopa

Mr Ringer was unable to think of a single instance where a police officer prevented a rape or a robbery. There are numerous instances where police patrols in high crime areas have reduced crime by very significant amounts. That must have been a typo on his part.

Perhaps you could link to some examples, Jopa?

Hopefully most sane individuals do not see an honest, every day company like Jack Daniels as the enemy or a cash cow to tax. However, I can see the frustration factor building against large companies who have a long history of unethical behavior, political influence and harm to our economy. Say what you may but I have little respect for the Goldman Sachs, AIG, Monsantos, major banks, who pretty much ripped off main street for their own unbridled greed. I hold no respect for them and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It’s time we somehow, someway, regained our government as it seems to be infiltrated and run by these shady corporations. I no longer see us having a true democracy these days…it sadly seems to be slipping away.

    • John

      GE also comes to mind.

Those Crony Capitalists could not do their dirty without the complicity of Government. Let’s not throw the babies out with the bath water. Let’s just get our Government out of the Marketplace. Let’s return the power to the consumers. It is Government interventionism that has caused our problems. Let’s cure the disease, not the symptoms.

Democracy can be mesured by one value distribution of wealth and income
When score is 190 to 35 it is a shut out

      10% own 70% Net Wealth 80% own 15%
      10% own 70% Financial Wealth 80% own 7%
      10% take 50% individual Income 70,000,000 take 13%
      7/5 70/7 50/13 190/35

America is ranked fifth from top on Inequality in oecd nations.
A 30-60-10 distribution is deemed equitable in a democracy

      Today it is est. 80–20-0

  • Robert Morrow

I had a small business in California and after many years of harassment, over taxed and unable to find employees that was able to read, write and do simple math, I did the correct thing. I went on strike, closed the business, fired everyone and moved from the state of corruption and petty bureaucrats. I think that anyone that is a doer and shaker, who is being destroyed by Petty Bureaucrats with obscene inforced regulation and and their hands out for under the table payments, plus the gimme crowd that are parsites, want what you have worked hard for. I say strike, fire everyone and let Obama take care of them and close shop. Once all business do that it will change and people will will realise that the ones who made the business supports every one. Presently our Government leaders have have sold you out to uncontroled Shadow governments, like the FDA(I call murder for profits inc.), the EPA, Labor relation board and on an on. Shut down these shadow government and there would be enough money to paid the National debit and support sick care (not healthcare as I do not need care when I am healthy). So back to Jack Daniels, Strike against the corrupt officials and bring back the Republic and Consitution.

    • martin

You have hit the nail on the head. We have created a generation of takers instead of doers. I am afraid if this Goliath isn’t slain in 2012 it will be too late to save our Republic. Their are too many people like James that don’t have a clue about what our forefathers saw and knew what was needed to keep our Republic.

    • JeffH

Robert Morrow, just like Margaret Thatcher said ““One of the main problems with socialism is that eventually your run out of other people’s money.”

You got to love the pistol-whipping she gives the Marxists who call themselves socialists who are in fact communists.

99% of Americas problems are caused by congress. They make all the
laws, rules and regulations.Of late the President also seems to have gotten into the legislative branch. Its amazing to me how so few people it takes to take over a government. Hitler comes to mind. There have been hundreds of empires come and gone. Roman empire comes to mind. Whats going to prevent the US from the same destiny?

Gosh won’t the libtards be happy when they force Jack Daniels to move their operation to China. WOW! Then everyone will be equally unemployed. Sounds like a plan to me.

Regarding isolated instances where the top 1% wealthy (or anyone) have stolen and entrapped the 99%er’s through their misdeeds, like the economic collapse the folks in government and on Wall Street have bungled, to my way of thinking, Republic or not Robert Ringer, stepped aside with your fancy historic “Republic” talk: METAPHORICAL HANGINGS NEEDS TO HAPPEN.
Fundamental change for Main Street will only come about through people taking to the streets, and that is just for starters.
Simply voting like we’ve always done, ain’t gonna get it done, as in …
the definition of insanity, is doing the same things you’ve always done, while expecting different results!

  • William Cocker

I’m a Canadian, not that, that will save me from the collapse of the U.S.. It looks to me like you are overdue for a (whiskey?)rebellion, while you’re still armed. Why wait for 2012, do it now!

    • DaveH

Stick around, William, and read the comments. Then tell us again we should have a revolution. We would just be replacing one tyrant with another. The citizens of the United States have been so effectively propagandized by the MSM and the Public Schools that most have no clue whatsoever about the Principles of Freedom. Until we reach the point where they have awakened, revolution would not possibly lead to a desirable outcome. And even if we did reach that point, peaceful methods would provide a lot more bang for the buck.

HELLO JAMES, WHY NOT VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS CONSTITUTIONALLY ALERT, THE DEMOS AND PUBS ARE BOTH ROWING THE SAME BOAT OF KARL MARX. LOOKS LIKE GUN SMOKE IF THIS THING DOESNT LEVEL OUT, BUT I SEE NO END OTHER TYHAN GUNIGHTS. EIGHTY YRS OLD HRE, MUCH POLITICAL HISTORY, EXPERIENCES.

  • PATRIOT 101

The majority will vote to “Kill the Golden Goose” in search of all the gold.
Democracy is nothing more than a nice label for mob rule. The founders knew this and put multiple levels of checks and balances in place to prevent “Democracy”, however so many (checks and balances) have now been removed, we are now there.
Even more scary is a “Democracy” looking for a “Leader”! Unfortunately, that is what we are today, and Obama will be our “Leader”. He has minimized Congress to the point of irrelevance. The DOJ is Crime Inc. central! Dictatorship is just an announcement (teleprompter speech) away.
IF we get a vote in November ’12, perhaps we can salvage our Republic.

Politician, librarian, sheriff, teacher and associated goombas just request it from the elected and darn if they don’t get it.
It’s that damn Keynesian economics where it makes sense that when you keep paying cops for instance the money will come back around and re-energize production – but it is flawed when cops get paid ten or twenty times what the average worker gets and it doesn’t work when production is out of this country. Further, as these groups build excess money they aren’t very good at creating productive assets where people actually work at winning a living and blowing money on the entertainment industries doesn’t ‘create’ wealth either just shuffles some money around
    Only production creates wealth

  • Fox

Before you go patting Joe Biden on the back for anything, do not forget that he is of the same ilk as Chuck Shumer and Hillariass Clinton when it comes to the desire for disarming Americans. The only thing preventing useful idiots like these and the rest of the WH crowd from the creation of a complete police state is a well armed citizenry; which is exactly the purpose of the Second Amendment.

I chuckled at the ladies story about the 2 wolves and a sheep. The rest of that story went: “Democracy is two wolves and a sheep discussing the dinner menu. Liberty is when a well armed sheep casts the deciding VOTE!”

  • Art

“No taxation without representation” was the rallying cry of the United States Revolutionary war. The phrase, “taxation without representation is tyranny”, coined by James Otis, of that era, best represents the dissent of our Colonial ancestors.

The Atlantic Ocean separated them from their representative government. Today, with our representative government with us on the same continent, we are still hearing that sentiment. The problem was not then, nor is it now, distance or geological barrier. Oppressive taxation with representation is still tyranny.

  • bogbeagle

    With respect to “authority”.

Seems to me that there are just two ways in which one man may exercise authority over another … by Consent or by Coercion.

We are held to be governed and taxed by Consent.

Now, if authority is exerted by Consent, then there absolutely MUST be some mechanism by which that consent may be withdrawn.

Since no such mechanism exists, the logical conclusion is that we are all governed by coercion … force. And, the concept of “consensual governance” is thus proven to be false.

As someone who used to vote straight Republican, but who finally realized that he didn’t have enough money to qualify as a Republican, I am greatly in favor of taxing the rich. They do NOT pay their fair share now; when Warren Buffett is in the 17 percent tax bracket, and his office workers are in the 36 percent tax bracket, something is woefully wrong. Also, as a former ROTC professor of military science, I can tell you that the kids of the rich do NOT serve in the military any longer; they are told that military service is the burden of the lower socio-economic classes. So, the people who get the most out of living in this country are doing the least to support it. The Democrats have been monumentally stupid in the past, but to continue voting Republican is to vote against myself. And I’m not going to do that any longer!

    • douglay@cfl.rr.com

A persons income tax bracket is determined by the amount of personal income they have. Having the name Warren Buffet doesn’t change that. The 15 % or 17 % that is being thrown around is the rate of capital gains tax that all investors pay, rich or poor. If you invest and get a capital gain you pay the same rate of capital gains tax that Warren Buffet pays. Quit blindly repeating the lies of the news media. Think for yourself. I don’t want Warren Buffet or anyone else to pay a higher income tax. We don’t have a revenue problem we have a spending problem. Wake up…

      • Robin from Arcadia, IN

Doug… Your post was a very good answer. I couldn’t agree more that our problem is not a revenue problem, but a spending problem. If a Fair Tax was enacted and the IRS needs something to do, they can start by making those who we send millions to in other countries be accountable to how the money is used. I think once an investigation finds and tracks our generous ‘help’ we will probably see we need to change things drastically. And we need to defund the UN and ask them politely to leave. Those countries that always votes against us should have all their aid cut off. It wouldn’t be that hard to find that we have money going in so many different directions that is not being used correctly and is not necessary any more.

      • johnb

Just think of the amount of money Americans are sending overseas. 100″s of billions they spend for foreign cars. I agree, government is over spending, but the American people are overspending also. And it’s all spending on foreign goods. We need to stay out of Walmart and to quit buying foreign cars. And foreign cars built in this country the profits go over there. Creating our 14 trillion dollar debt. We could use that money over here for Social Security, infrastructure, schools, etc.,etc.
The Chinese has $1.3 trillion of our dollars in their federal reserves, the Japanese have $1 trillion of our dollars in their federal reserves,as well as other nations; while the U.S. has only $150 billion of our dollars in our federal reserve. Something’s wrong
when other nations have more of our money than we do.

      • John

Spending problem that grows like a vine in gov’t expansion.I just had a voluntary interview with a census rep(who was a hr block worker also) from the useless dept of commerce.the same stupid useless questions over and over. What a waste of tax dollars. This is one dept that needs to be elimenated from gov’t.i am sure it would help our debt problem.

      • DaveH

Very Good, Douglay. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • Capitalist at Birth

Are you a dupe or a comrade? I would guess you are a dupe, unless you actually believe you are entitled to the earnings and wealth of someone who has fared better in the lottery of life. Where do you get your numbers? Capital gains taxes are 15 % unless they are securities held for less than one year, in which case the rate is more than double. The losses in securities are limited. Get your numbers straight and then come back and dispute what I have said. In the first place Buffets secretary is not in the 36% tax bracket unless she is making $ 200,000 a year, in which case I think that is too high. What is wrong with everyone paying the same tax rate on their earned income?

    • Charles bond

James, get your facts about Buffet’s tax deception before you try to pass it on.

      • eddie47d

It’s not the tax rate on capital gains that is the problems but how they gained their wealth in the first place. The whole system is rotten from the top down. The wealthy have become lazy and complacent and seldom produce anything anymore. There aren’t many reasons to look up to them (to be like them)because they have become devious greedy little thieves. I don’t envy a low life criminal and I certainly won’t envy a high falutin one either. Conservatives can talk about morals all day long. Until they rein in the Enron/Lehman Bros. crowd then their words are standing on shifting sands.

      • Bob

The greedy are those who want to steal the wealth of those who have earned it. The lazy do not work and expect a check from the government. That government money comes from taxing those who have earned it through hard work.

      • DaveH

Eddie makes his usual comment filled with fabricated facts.
Fabricated Fact #1: “It’s not the tax rate on capital gains that is the problems but how they gained their wealth in the first place”.
You have no idea what they sacrificed to gain their wealth, Eddie. Don’t pretend otherwise.
Fabricated Fact #2: “The wealthy have become lazy and complacent and seldom produce anything anymore”.
Then who is producing our products, Eddie, Santa Claus? You know nothing about the work ethics of the Wealthy, Eddie. You are speaking purely from an ignorant position of envy.
Fabricated Fact #3: “There aren’t many reasons to look up to them (to be like them)because they have become devious greedy little thieves”.
I take it that you can prove that slanderous statement, Eddie?
Don’t project your own lack of morality onto others, Eddie, you jealous little Troll.

        DaveH

Not in defense of Eddie, he can fight his own battles, but your name calling is once again some of the only fuel you run on.

You actually need examples of the rich and wealthy and corporate powers actually raping the general public to produce profits? Try Goldman Sachs and AIG and and and…those are perfect examples of unchecked unregulated profiteers recklessly ruining the country in the name of the almighty dollar. That is a supreme example of the mentality of the rich versus the US citizen!

And look, I didn’t even have to call someone a name?

      • DaveH

Duh, djdrew, both of those were bailed out by Big Government at the taxpayers’ expense, a Big Government which you Liberals support.

      • DaveH

By the way, djdrew, nice try on the name-calling bit, but I was just responding in kind to Eddie’s slanderous name-calling comment. We are allowed to fight fire with fire you know. I do realize that the Liberals prefer we bring knives to their gun fights, but sorry, I don’t abide by Liberal rules.

      • DaveH

djdrew103 says “Not in defense of Eddie, he can fight his own battles, but your name calling is once again some of the only fuel you run on.”

        From various djdrew comments:
“This ass was sitting next to a known terrorist when he died”
“You whole argument as I read them here are empty adn mindless blabber.”
        “Repugs have offered nothing”
“…and I suppose in some insane form of wisdom that you feel that makes him their puppet?”

        Typical Liberal Hypocrite.

      • eddie47d

I’m still standing by what I said Dave and there are no fabrications.

      • eddie47d

I’ll stand by what I said and I’ll say it even louder next time. The income of Americans in the bottom 80% went up 83% since 1980. The income of the top 1% went up 261% in that same time period. The other 19% went up 95%. Even adjusted for inflation that 1% made out like bandits. Productivity has gone way up for Americans but their incomes have now stagnated in the last 4 years. Income for that 1% has gone up 7-15% in that same time period yet their productivity has gone down. So stop trying to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge Dave.

      • DaveH

Eddie says “Productivity has gone way up for Americans but their incomes have now stagnated in the last 4 years”.
I would ask you to post some references to such effect, but I know you wouldn’t. You never do. Do you just not know how? I’d be happy to explain it to you, if you don’t.
Also, I would have to say thanks for the admission that, notwithstanding increased Government involvement in the economy, the economy is still suffering. Why is that? I thought Obama and you Liberals had the answers?

      • eddie47d

Hey chart-man. Show your brilliance and look it up. Wages for high earners are way up and wages for lower earners are down or stagnant. It’s been that way for some time so stop floating on the river of denile.

    • Change?

Who are you going to vote for James? King Obama and a democratic society or a republican who is of the lesser two evils? I think everyone should vote republican until we get a grip on our Constitutional laws and take back our country. We then begin voting republicans out of office after we’ve established a third party who will abide by our laws.

Obama has no intention of creating jobs and after there are no more companies to hire anyone, people will be accepting jobs as cops or joining the military to survive. Hence, the TSA ‘security’ which has now spread like wildfire from the airports to ballgames, concerts, buses, and trains. We have not only been trained to be those ‘docile cows’, but we’re now being trained to summit to authority and are prisoners in our own cities, townships, counties, states, and country. That’s just the way progressives have been planning the takeover of America and the world for decades. They are blatantly carrying out their plans without any regard to the human element and the human being’s laws – the Constitution.

We are dealing with brazen evilness who have no concept of what a human being is or the aftermath of where they’re taking this planet because their decisions, if they win, will affect them too. I have always held true to the thought that if one becomes corrupt, the devil is lying low and grinning, for it has added another being to its list of sinners which gives it more strength and power. People have to stop these demonic monsters before they take over the world because they’ve already begun by eliminating ‘Heads of States’ in the Arab world. There were no terrorists on Earth until the leaders, or puppets of the real leaders of America, began terrorizing other countries.

      • eddie47d

You sure have been set up in believing that voting Republican will make you all feel better. Remember it was the Republican Party that pushed through the Patriot Act which authorized the TSA and the “police state” that you rail against. Obama doesn’t get a free pass either but it was the Republicans who set him up and gave him excuses to further it. Another would be the Iraq War advocated by Republicans which now gives Obama an excuse to grow further wars. Not much different than NAFTA which was also a Republican plot to make everything all better. Yes the Democrats fell for that line of bull too but under false pretenses. They drank the Republicans Castor oil and have had diarrhea ever since. Now the Republicans have their own jobs bill in the works $285 billion. Yup the same Republican party that voted against Obama’s Jobs Bill (both of the recent ones). I feel another set up since it’s also for roads and infrastructure. If the Republicans really cared about job creation their plan would have been in the works earlier instead of showboating on Obama’s bill. The Republicans are about as credible as Bernie Madoff.

      • Patriot1776

I can’t argue with you on the fact that, in general, Republicans aren’t reliable. Democrats are far more reliable, they will always spend more, tax more and remove liberties and freedom “for the public good”. Through their tactics they will continue to enslave minorities because they need them to make their case, while they give billions of dollars to their cronies.

That is why the Tea Party has come to be and why we need to establish which Republicans are Constitutional Conservatives and which are liberal Democrats under the Republican label. We need people in Congress and the Presidency that will 1) Obey the laws of this Great Nation, 2) Follow the will of the citizens, 3) Reduce government and return it to the Constitution and the intent of the Founding Fathers.

To continue to hire the current socialists and communist thinking it will get better is utter insanity.

      • DaveH

        Eddie,
I sure do get tired of your misinforming comments. 70% of the Democrats in the House of Representatives voted FOR the Patriot Act. Only 1 Democrat in the Senate voted against the Patriot Act.
ALL of the Democrats in the House of Representatives voted FOR the Aviation Security Act which created the TSA. And ALL of the Democrats in the Senate voted FOR the Aviation Security Act.
Are you a Liar, Eddie, or just Stone Ignorant?

      • eddie47d

Can’t you read Dave or do you go straight for the insults? The Patriot Act was pushed by the Republicans. The TSA was pushed by the Republicans.Democrats and Republicans vote on alot of issue and those bills were no different. It seems like I have to walk you through each step. Remember The Great Society …pushed and supported by Democrats and it passed whether you liked it or not. . Not much different than the above mentioned Acts. PUSHED AND SUPPORTED by Republicans but voted on by all.

      • DaveH

        Eddie,
I know you’re full of it. You know you’re full of it. The readers know you’re full of it. Give it up.

      • independant thinker

eddie it don’t matter who thunk it up or who pushed it what matters is who voted for it. Your precious democrats voted to institute the patriot act and voted to renew it with enhancements under obama so quit trying to blaim it all on Bush.

      • eddie47d

Then use the same theories when attacking Liberals or Democrats. Obama did not push the Patriot Act.Get a clue in how politics works and figure out who does what. Then you and Dave will have more credibility.

    • John

Think Tea party and lets return back to contitutional fundamentals. No tyranny by oversized gov’t.

  • Mike Houst

The problem started when the representatives started passing laws that benefited themselves and their cronies disproportionatly compared to the rest of the population.

That’s called theft by deception. And it is stealing.

So the average citizen has a right to redress and compensation from the banks and financial institutions that got fat prior to the crash, and who have benefited from the bailouts since then. I said they have a right, not that they stand a chance in hell of ever collecting.

Secondly, those self-same legislators set up a situation that skewed total wealth distribution out of the optimum economic range. Sure, thee’s more money in the system than ever before; but it’s all concentrated at the top 20%; and that doesn’t do anything for business. It doesn’t increase spending, because nobody else has it to spend. And it doesn’t create jobs, because without spending, nobody is making anything, or hiring to make and distribute it. It doesn’t take a PhD in economics, or a Nobel Prize to figure that out.

But when you have the foxes guarding the hen house, it’s real tough to raise chickens.

  • AJ

I heard that, “Democracy was the best government money could buy”. I think it was a Rothchild that declared that somewhere in history. Joey Biden thinks to be patriotic is “to play the role of a docile cow waiting to be milked whenever politicians decide they need more money.” The Role of the docile cow has been reinforced the past 50 or more years. Oh by the way Floride is good for the teeth, Duh ya Know?

We need to have a national flat tax for both individuals and businesses but the rich, the IRS, the tax accountants, and the tax attorneys do not want this.

I think BHO said ‘Everyone needs to pay their fair share’ of taxes..What is the fair share of the ‘poor’ ? The fait tax is the way to go..

      • TeaParty Patriot (TPP)

THERE’S THE SAME PROBLEM WITH CAINS 9-9-9 tax plan as with the Fairtax Scheme..

Savers have already paid income tax on their savings. Now Cain wants to impose another 9% sales tax (Fair Tax Scheme wants to impose a 23% tax)on these savings (not the interest or dividends which he proposes to cut) but on the principle, this will double tax the principle of the savings unfairly. The same could be said for the equity in a home. Taxes were paid on the payments applied to the principle and it accumulated over the years, Now Cain’s 9-9-9 plan and the FairTax Scheme wish to impose a 9% sales tax or 23% sales tax respectively, on this equity savings that has already been taxed by the income tax system.

A second misleading or mis-statement of both the 9-9-9 Tax plan and the Fair tax Scheme is the statement that prices will fall when the embedded taxes now paid by manufactures are removed. Perhaps they will on goods produced here in the US BUT Diane Sawyer recently (on nationwide TV) had everything removed from a typical suburban 3 bedroom house that was not made here in the USA. The house was empty when the demonstration was over. EVERYTHING in the typical house was imported. That tells me there were no embedded taxes imposed by a foreign manufacturer that could be removed by out government. Therefore the prices for the consumer will remain the same except that the 9-9-9 tax plan will add 9% to the consumer out the door price and the FairTax Scheme will add 23% to the out the door price on those items bought that are not made here in the US The Computer monitor made in Taiwan that currently costs $100.00 will still cost $100.00 only the Cain 9-9-9 tax and the FairTax Scheme will add 9% and 23% respectively.

      • Bob

TPP, your thinking is simplistic concerning what these two plans will do to the prices of goods and services. When income taxes are lowered, the final price of that item will drop, due to competition. ie, When we enact the Fairtax, the price of goods and services will drop by an average of 22% and then we add back in the 23% sales to make it revenue neutral to the government. The price will be about what we pay now. If you make $1,000 a week, you take home $1,000 a week not $700, minus any deductions like health insurance.

The problem with the analysis of the 999 plan and the Fairtax plan is that non-thinking commentators refuse to factor in the price drops caused by lowered tax compliance costs and lowered income taxes. You can’t say that prices will automatically go up by 9% or 23% by adding a sales tax. You first must realize that prices will drop by lowering the income tax, then you add the sales tax.

      • Bob

Another benefit of enacting the Fairtax is that millions of jobs would be created. Princeton did a study asking 500 of the largest companies based in Japan and Europe what they would do when the US enacts the Fairtax. About 400 said they would build their next manufacturing plant in the US, the rest said they would move their entire operations here.

So don’t call the Fairtax a scheme. It is by far the best thing we could possibly do for the economy. I’m a CPA and an economist. A lot of top economists have studied the Fairtax and are solidly behind it. I’ve talked with a couple thousand people and the only ones who are aginst it are those who don’t understand or are far left socialists who want to confiscate the wealth of the rich.

      • Old Henry

One BIG problem with both plans is that neither one REPEALS THE 16th AMENDMENT.

We get the 999 or the Fair Tax and then Congress re-institutes the Imcome Tax.

      • Bob

Henry, one of the provisions of the Fairtax is the repeal of the 16th amendment.

      • DaveH

        Bob,
Before you trash the insight of others, you should read a little more carefully (and think).
What TPP was talking about was the money that has already been saved years or decades ago before the 999 plan, and then would be taxed again (with the National Sales Tax) when they spend it some time in the future.

After 2009, the kook-aid drinkers just started snorting the stuff and eating it like huge “pixie stix”. Forego the water!

      • DaveH

I believe that sly former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City knows damn well what he’s doing. He is introducing a sweet-sounding Trojan Horse into our tax system. Sure the plan will start off at 999, but we all know how that goes with Government. Soon, it would become the 10-10-10 plan or the 11-11-11 plan. They want to do what Government does best — get their foot in the door, using peoples’ general disgust with Income Taxation to push it through.
There is only one real solution — Abolish the Income Tax first, then replace it with something truly Fair like a True Flat Tax paid by each adult.
There is only one candidate with such simple and equitable solutions — Ron Paul. Well, there is Gary Johnson also, but the LSM has effectively shut him in the closet.

a flat tax is ok but it needs to be a graduwaited tax ( what I mean is if you just make it say 10% a senior or a person working for low wage that can be a lot but for a rich person its a tax brake ) the flat tax needs to be based on the cost of living.
what I mean is it should be a national scale of what you should have left after the cost of living has been deduced, ( they do that for seniors now, to set how much to increase their SS each year )

      • moonbeam

But seniors don’t get an increase each year. When they do get an increase, 1/4 of it is taken away when their medicare payments go up.

According to my mom, they haven’t had an increase in 2-3 years. They are getting one next year, but will be decreased by the amount of their increased medicare payments.

      • djdrew103

This is a norm for the system. I get a cost of living increase this year, the first one in four years I believe, of a measly $18 if I am not mistaken. As that increase hits, my food benefits decrease one dollar for every dollar of the increase. That means that with my current $674 per month allotment on SSI, it will increase to $692 per month. to me when I think of nearly getting a whole $700 “almost” a month, it makes me feel falsely rich. I have had to survive on SSI for 13 years now, since heart, blood clot and lung/pulmonary problems put me on disability in 1998 when I started receiving a mere $500 per month. When that $674 changes to $692, my food benefits literally takes that down automatically to $686 just because some idiot in Congress can’t remember that you can’t give someone something and then take part of it away and expect them to appreciate it in full.

Take the fact that they excused any cost of living increase for the last four years since the market dropped, yet a gallon of milk is more than a gallon of gasoline, or that food prices have soared, and this cost of living increase is pea puddle. I appreciate any extra, but I have a right to complain about government oversight and incompetence.

      • DaveH

So the rich people paying much more towards taxes even though they already are benefiting us by giving us jobs isn’t good enough?
They would do that with a so-called Flat Tax (really it’s a Flat Rate Tax) at whatever percentage is chosen for that Flat Rate Tax.
Say we had a 10% Flat Rate Tax. Those making $10,000/yr would/should pay $1,000 for their Government. Those making $100,000/yr would pay $10,000 for their Government (10 times as much). Is that Fair? I think not. It’s fair only in the minds of those who want to help themselves to other peoples’ money (theft in my book).
I am disgusted at the den of thieves and murderers that America has become.

      • djdrew103

How do you think that is unfair. America is a land of opportunity, but that doesn’t mean you have a free ride just because you make more money. You trying to say that a person who makes 25,000 a year should pay 2,500 a year, and then that a corporation that makes 1 billion a year should be allowed to pay 25,000 per year after tax loopholes and exemptions? And that’s fair?

      • DaveH

I’m saying the term Fair is terribly misused.
You don’t have to show an income statement before the salesman gives you a price on a car, do you?
Why should you have to show an income statement before you pay for the Government which supposedly provides equal treatment under the law?
There is nothing at all Fair about some people paying more than others pay. I do realize that people (especially Liberals) can rationalize just about any effort to relieve somebody else of their money. Greedy people.

      • DaveH

The bottom line is that when the Liberals finally succeed in getting the masses to cast aside their morality and plunder those who made the efforts and sacrifices to become wealthy, it won’t be long until we have no more in the United States than in any other third-world ignorant country.
It is a fact that the takers of other peoples’ money don’t work harder (more likely less hard), and the victims of that theft will certainly work less deprived of their rewards. So, the logical outcome will be less productivity, and a worse (much worse) economy. You don’t even need to be logical to figure that out. All you need do is to have enough common sense to learn from experience:

the piss poor countries at the bottom of the list? and the better, more freer countries at the top.

We are 9th or so up at the top of the list, a compliment to a freer country. So your point you were trying to make is defeated. We are a freer country with too much government. Sweden is widely known for too much government, outrageously high taxes, run totally as government is more important than the people and messed up to boot, and its way down on the list 22nd?, not much to be proud of. I would move to the US in a heartbeat if I were Swedish.

        rather, let’s define this logically….

It is a fact that the takers of other peoples’ money (the rich and Wall Street’rs and Repugs) don’t work harder, more likely less hard (they certainly don’t, didn’t and never have), and the victims of that theft will certainly work less deprived of their rewards (and why should the working class work harder, if they give their lives away working just so the rich and the facade created by Conservative Government take all their hard-worked-for-just-rewards away from them).

  • TOCB

The current tax code taxes millionaires at a lower effective rate than working class taxpayers. If we had an economy where working people actually had jobs and those jobs paid a living wage we could probably get away with this tax structure. However, when you have a low wage service economy and 9% chronic unemployment such an arrangement is not sustainable. If we are indeed a great nation with exceptional values, paying your fair share of taxes to fund the things we want to do collectively is indeed patriotic, which makes not doing so unpatriotic.

    • DJ

Dear TOCB- You do know that you just called the 48% of Americans who paid zero Federal taxes last year in this country unpatriotic right?

The biggest problem with the tax the rich debate of today is that way too many sheep refuse to take a look at the already enacted stealth tax increases that have been slapped onto the deaf, dumb and blind sheep. Watch the crying start when they see just what Obama has done to the tax code in 2012.It is all planned to not be noticed until after the 2012 elections, as you will all see in the spring of 2013. The middle class will be hurt the worst, as the so-called “lower income citizens” ( welfare parasites) do not pay taxes on any “income” especially not their welfare checks. Seniors, however are already being crushed with higher utility costs and gas/food inflation. They want you to believe that the welfare class is being hurt more than a Senior citizen trying to eke out a living on 700.00 bucks a month. Medicare co-pays just went up. Our electric bill “necessarily skyrocketed” by 60 bucks a dam month late last year in one jump with more to come, so says the electric company. $500 billion bucks stolen from seniors healthcare to pay for Obama-care and they tell the Seniors that the Liberals are Seniors best friends! Wake up people!

      • Eve

They have to kill them off somehow…take their guns and give them to the illegals, take over health care, and tax whatever is left over.

      • martin

If the liberals are the seniors best friend then thats like telling the sheep that their best friend is the wolf.

      • Old Henry

Yes DJ, the electric company is correct. Little Barry’s EPA has said they intend to close all the coal-fired generating plants.

That will put many more thousands out of work and crush not only seniors, but all Americans with horendously high rates.

The coal industry may, or may not, be affected as China will buy all the coal we can send them. The U.S. is the Middle East of coal.

      • Karolyn

But the coal industry is destroying the land and the lives of those around it.

      • Brad

        Karolyn,

Coal minninig is providing jobs, we have over four hundred years worth of coal in the ground. You said coal minning is destroying lives because of it, I’d like to know how Karolyn. Please provide a link with your proof that coal minning is destroying lives? I believe you need to look at this link http://www.bydesign.com/fossilfuels/links/html/coal/coal_get.html and check its other resources before putting your foot in your mouth, Karolyn.

      • eddie47d

There is no foot in mouth. Black Lung… but of coarse you wouldn’t know that because you wouldn’t go near a coal mine. What is the price of progress Brad ? Anything goes to achieve your goal. There are still mining deaths and tremendous environmental damages plus Coal Ash and contaminated drinking water.

      • Karolyn

Well, Brad, maybe you need to look at this link
        http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/03/080326201751.htm

Are you aware that the beaautiful landscape of West Virginia is slowly disappearing due to coal mining? Have you ever been to the old coal mining regions of PA? Not a pretty site. Just talk to people from those areas, and they can tell you stories of illness and death. Big deal; somebody makes money, but hostens their life. The only winner is the coal company. The money to the little people is short-lived.

      • Karolyn

I meant hastens the end of their life.

      • Buster the Anatolian

I would love to see us get off coal as our primary energy source for electricity production. HOWEVER, those opposed to coal CANNOT provide us with a practical economical alternative. Until that happens we should continue to use coal, natural gas, and any other economical means of generating our electricity.

      • KHM

@Karolyn who said that the coal industry is destroying lives and the land.
So would she have some facts to back up that statement? Or is it just a liberal rant.
Karolyn, we have plenty of coal which can be processed in a clean way. The new EPA standards about mercury emissions are bogus and will cause greater harm by destroying the economy in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and all other coal producing states when mines and coal -powered power generating plants close.
You will see the price of electricity skyrocket.
This is the tyranny of this administration and the EPA.
The tyranny in this article was the greed of the residents of the town and county where Jack Daniels is located. They feel they are ‘entitled’ to a greater share of the profits of the biggest local employer which also brings tourism dollars.
        Talk about short-sighted.

      • Karolyn

KHM – Who’s being shortsighted? We are weighing human lives and the land against money. There are no easy answers. What good is the money when the people affected by the coal industry will spend it on illness due to coal and not live long enough to enjoy it; and the land will never recover? Yes, it is better than it was long ago, but people still suffer with illness due to the coal industry. The mountains of West Virginia are being topped off. People are protesting in that state.

      • eddie47d

KHM; There is mercury in coal and it does effect the health of those living anywhere near a coal mine or to wherever it is shipped to.

      • Nadzieja Batki

So everybody that produces any industry in this country does not care for the land and the people that work on it. You have a typical Leftist/Socialist savior complex( and it is not the Savior of the Bible), as no one cares but you and no one saves but you.

    • Dntmkmecmoverther

So the 47% who don’t pay any federal taxes, should they continue on that course of ‘patriotism’? They use the same police, fire and utilities that I use; they drive on the same roads and go to the same schools as my kids. BUT I pay their way. Somehow that just doesn’t seem ‘patriotic’ at all. That is pure communism at its worst; as those sucking on the tit of government never stop sucking and they never produce anything of substance.

Your precious ‘jobs’ are being decimated by our current administration’s executive orders which have ladled on new, punitive laws which drive employers out of business. Obamacare is just one of hundreds of these regulations. Unless and until this current tyrant is reigned in, the tax base will continue to dwindle…and I for one do NOT intend to keep ‘pulling up the rear’. I have had it with freeloaders trampling on my coat tails.

      • Lastmanstanding

It is just that simple…everyone looks to deeply into what is going on…

If everyone looked at others in their community and where their funds to survive came from, it would instantly become clear.

I research everyone before I give anyone my money…Do they appreciate my money or are they using me.

I realize that this falls into the divide and conquer thing…however, I am God helps those who help themselves person.

We will find out soon whose on whose team.

      • Old Henry

Well Lastmanstanding, I wonder if God is on the side of liberals as they help themselves – to everyone else’s money…

I have found that giving locally is the best. My church, the Salvation ARmy and the local Food Banks.

      • Lastmanstanding

OH. God is not on the liberals side…in fact, i look at who is a producer and who is a taker… who can make it on their own and who can’t?

That is why I hope to be one of the lastmen/womenstanding.

      • Nadzieja Batki

Old Henry, first make sure who your church, the salvation army and the food bank support by the money.

      • Old Henry

Actually Dntmkmecmoverther it is communism at its very best.

I don’t know your “generation”, but for me it was my great-grandparent’s and grandparent’s generation that helped us into this mess with that dirt-bag communist FDR. My parent’s generation helped inject steroids with the scum-bag communist LBJ.

And then MY generation gave it all another healthy boost with dick-for-brains and then Shrub.

Last, but not least, the flea-bagger parasite generation and the illegal scum criminals put us into the final death throes with the commie Muslim foreign national.

      • Isaac Davis

Succinct history. I agree with you. Most of this “OWS oppressive, wealth-suckers) probably couldn’t tell you one thing about the feral vermin of the past administrations. The doom and destruction wrought from those administrations is the results we now have before us.

The 47% who don’t pay income taxes came about because of how George W. Bush changed the tax code along with the decline in the economy to near Depression era levels.

    • Jimrobo

This all started with Woodrow Wilson, F D Roosevelt perpetuated it, it’s tax-em and spend-it. Woodrow wanted parlimentary gov’t, and european style socialism, Roosevelt wanted to just die in office, after physically ruining the office, and LBJ wanted to redistribute everyones paycheck, to the tune of 13 trillion in todays dollars, in the war on poverty, GREAT SOCIETY, BS. All this has given us what we have today, millions on food stamps, free housing, free this, free that, until american business can’t find a good honest worker unless they sign away their company in a union contract.

TOCB, who, collectively, wants these programs you speak of? Isn’t the “collective” you speak of just another name for the mob rule, or as in the article, majority rule? We, as a nation, need to rid ourselves of the IRS and many other government appointed enforcers. Yes there has to be a way to collect taxes to support the functions of the government, but the functions of said government are also limited to much less than it has evolved into doing.

What exactly did Warren Buffet pay in taxes? Not the percentage, What did he pay.

    • Bob

The current tax code taxes high income people much higher than lower income people. The lower incomes are taxed at 10 and 15%. The higher rates at 25 to 35%. Capitol gains and dividends are taxed at 0% for the lower 2 rates and at 15% for the upper rates. For you to say that higher income people pay lower effective rates is due to a complete lack of understanding of the tax code.

      • djdrew103

I think people in general have become educated enough to understand and not be fooled by claims that the “tax code” has the Richie Rich and Corporate powers taxed more. Its all over the news and researching it is far too easy. I can’t believe someone would continue to spread the hype. Those wealthier powers can afford the war rooms of tax attorneys who find the now ever present loopholes and shelters to where they pay 0-?% of actual tax rates.

Taking into account all U.S. tax breaks, the average effective rate was 27.7% for large companies during the 2006-09 period, according to a study released last week by PricewaterhouseCoopers for the Business Roundtable. This does not mean that 27.7% is what they actually individually paid in, some companies paying far less than others as they found loopholes, exemptions and overseas shelters depending on their ability to afford those measures.

The California Public Interest Research Group estimated last week that companies avoid as much as $100 billion in taxes each year through that tactic.

“Main Street businesses and ordinary taxpayers without access to an army of lawyers and accountants to devise elaborate tax avoidance schemes are forced to pick up the tab every year,” said Pedro Morillas, the group’s consumer advocate.

      • DaveH

We could end any trace of that controversy easily by going to a True Flat Tax where every adult paid the same. We all are guaranteed equal treatment under the law, so why do some have to pay more for that equal treatment than others?
And the reality of taxing the rich more is that more productive money is taken out of the economy and Consumed by the Government, so most of us lose because that results in fewer goods and services to be purchased. Also, when the nation’s producers are taxed more they just raise their product prices and pass the costs on to the consumers. So the people ultimately pay those taxes. It is just one giant shell-game designed to fleece the people and feather the nests of the 1% who are in power positions.
Some reality for those who can handle the truth:

      • djdrew103

I personally feel that a flat tax on whatever a person receives “In America” is the best basis. Companies that move their headquarters overseas, skip the current tax system. Yet if they were taxed on whatever they sold here in America, then they could not skip that tax.

      • djdrew103

Let’s take a look for a perfect example in how GE manipulates the current tax code in a very simplistic viewpoint. Without all the media hype and political Tom Foolery, GE has recorded a $3.25 billion tax benefit for the year on its U.S. operations. It’s important to understand that this “benefit” is not a refund it just represents an amount GE will balance out against future tax obligations.

General Electric reported $2.7 billion in cash tax payments during the year, and on its income statement lists a provision for income taxes of $1.05 billion. Considering GE’s pretax income of $14.2 billion, that makes for a tax rate of just 7.4%. The only one of the 20 corporate giants with a lower rate was AT&T ( T – news – people ), at -6.4%–but that was only because MaBell won a tax settlement with the IRS that reduced its tax liability by $8.3 billion.

Its finance arm, GE Capital, that lost a lot of money during the financial meltdown (roughly $30 billion) was the reason GE was able to compile losses and profits into a current tax bundle, and it’s still carrying those losses forward and deducting them from current income. As GE spokesman Gary Sheffer wrote: “Without these financial crisis losses at GE Capital, GE’s tax rate would have been near the average of other multinational corporations.” He added, “In short, when you lose money, you don’t pay taxes.”

If GE’s industrial side (maker of jet engines, light bulbs, turbines and such) were a standalone entity, its global tax rate would be 16.8%. It’s only after consolidating its results with the GE Capital side that its rate drops down to 7.4%.

Overseas profits stay overseas, beyond the arm of Uncle Sam. But when losses happen, like in the credit crunch, they can be netted against U.S. profits. GE can avoid taxes on profits overseas through a multitude of loopholes, but the minute those overseas profits show a loss, they can declare it here in the US on their total income. Just another balancing act in the global marketplace.

      • DaveH

Corporations don’t pay taxes. People do. When Corporations are taxed they pass the costs on to the consumers, or they pay their employees less, or they lay off some employees, or they lose money and shut down their business or move it overseas. No sane businessman is going to keep his money in a money-losing business. None of those options are good for the rest of us.
It’s just one giant shell game with the rules rigged so the Politicians can pluck the citizens as much as they can without the citizens squawking too much. The Politicians use your blind envy to enable themselves to feather their own nests as much as possible.

        Per Michelle Malkin:
The original Robin Hood tales of the Middle Ages celebrated a renegade who rose up against property rights violations and taxation abuses. His archenemies were not private traders or bankers, but the local government tax collector, the Sheriff of Nottingham and the power-grabbing ruler, Prince John. Robin Hood, in other words, was far more tea party than flea party.

      • djdrew103

I wonder how people can so blatantly warp the truth, and I don’t believe I am posting on a subject of Robin Hood. Every movie I saw on Robin Hood, he indiscriminately robbed the rich, not the personified worthy evil ones posted above. He did give to the poor though, and of course supported his merry troop of bandits. I guess all in all, morally worried mothers would not want their children raised watching a thief, though helping the poor, still robbing from anyone who had the bucks, and living off the take. He couldn’t live in mansion or use his wealth for self since he had the Sheriff looking for him and thus the trees, and because the rich and powerful he robbed from would have dungeonized him, and chopped off his head of course.

Problem with our politicians when voted into office, who describe themselves as our best bet, they then go quickly over to the rich party and get to live off the take too, robbing then from whomsoever the legally indiscriminately agree to rob, and justifying it to the public eye as a moral cause.

      • eddie47d

Gotta love it. Isn’t “Real” Bob the one who said that Robin Hood was the one who stole from the rich to feed the poor. Can’t have that now Bobby, right! • MNIce

Eddie47d wrote, “The Tea Party is more in tuned to guarding the wealth of the upper class and and allowing the Middle Class to disintegrate.” Wrong, Eddie. You failed to do your research again. If you had bothered to listen instead of looking down your patrician schnoz at them, you would have discovered that the vast majority of Tea Party people are irate middle class workers who are fed up with the politicians borrowing their grandchildren into financial insolvency before they are even conceived. They’re fed up with that borrowed money going to numerous unconstitutional purposes, such as bailing out the feckless bankers who inflated the prices paid for the homes purchased by the workers, then destroyed the monetary value of those homes. They’re angry with the politicians who deliberately misconstrue the Constitution so “collect taxes … to provide for the General Welfare of the United States” effectively becomes “spend money to buy votes to provide for the general welfare of the politicians” and “power to regulate commerce between the states” becomes “we can regulate anything we can imagine might affect interstate commerce.”

Maybe if you get arrested for sneezing in the grocery store because your flying snot causes another shopper to reject an item of produce from out of state, you might understand that the Tea Party is about restoring the Rule of Law to an out-of-control Central Government that no longer seems to understand it is but a limited part of a Federal Republic.

Your claptrap about us favoring the rich at the expense of the middle class only betrays thoughtlessness and ignorance. If the property of the rich isn’t safe from the government Mob, nobody’s property is, not even yours.

      • djdrew103

I think with all the smart arsed comments to the side and lefties fighting right-wingers, the current tax system is the current problem. Lven if low income and middle class lost their deductions, you can’t claim that giving deductions or exemptions to the wealthier populace, or giving tax breaks to corporations is a true solution, as we found that to be one of the very problems as they shuffle their funds out of country anyways, just to save money! Lower their tax rates, allow them more deductions, they are still in it for the big money, and they will create jobs only if they wish too. Take away deductions and exemptions for the lower income and middle class, and they have no shelters, no methods to hide their money, and they pay the direct amount into the system, which is still unfairly balanced. Both repugs and Dems are looking at allowing a one year tax cut to help draw corporate interests back into the country. This doesn’t make sense to me as they merely develop their products under our lenient and subsidized tax relief initiatives, then move that product manufacturing and headquarters out of the country anyways.

Until we find a tax code, and laws preventing manipulation of the tax code, they will continue the same practices they have learned to milk the country of deserved tax revenue.

Don’t comment unless you watch the video first.

Robin Hood, the archer in green tights, was against the political tyrants of his day, most notably Prince John, Sir Guy of Gisbourne, and the sheriffs who extracted taxes from the common people to pay the king so he and his cronies could retain their political positions.

If a Robin Hood movie were being cast today, Barak Obama would be cast as Prince John. The producers would have their pick of securing a supporting cast for Prince John’s court of governmental thieves by any number of Congressmen and Senators from both major political parties, most notably Nazi Pelosi and “Prince” Harry Reid.

I can’t agree with the idea of a tyranny of the so-called majority, Robert. Now, if you say we have tyranny of the deaf, dumb and utterly programmed, then we’re on the same page. There are MORE conservatives and libertarians in America than there are utopian ultraliberals and their camp-follower, skunk buds.
We just haven’t ‘had enough’ yet, as a group, to demand responsibility from those who refuse to listen or be responsible. As for oaths, I think you can forget that idea. If anybody thinks Oiamyourgod will ever honor his oath of office, don’t hold your breath.
Washington criminals are telling us by their collective silence that the Constitution is DEAD. That should be more than enough for the rest of us to come together and realize it’s time for individual citizens and groups to do what it takes to give people like Dumbed-down Biden, the Anointed Reject, and all of their rump-smacking, sycophant bunkies to get their heads out of those clouds before they have to admit that being #%@^*-slapped into next year with a cast iron skillet (figuratvely and literaly) wasn’t what they expected.
Why waste time with coffee and a light lunch approach? Treat the SOBs like they’re mutant sons and daughters of the Brits back in the 18th century. It’s them or us.

I remember when democracy was described (correctly) as 2 wolves and a lamb voting on dinner. It was also called tyranny of the majority. My favorite comment on democracy actually comes from a movie “The Patriot”

“Would you tell me please, Mr. Howard… why should I trade one tyrant 3,000 miles away for 3,000 tyrants one mile away?”

Of course the Constitutional LIMITS on government were supposed to protect us but that does require our representatives to understand what they are protecting. Since they do not bother to read the bills how do we know they have read and understood the Constitution? And if they do not read the bills how can they represent us?

Oh and another look at democracy.
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4r0VUybeXY

      • ernest

they read the bills thats why their always trying to get around them, its a wonder Obama hasn’t tried to disband congress yet? maybe he has to work up to that.

      • Michael

Why should Obama disband Congress? They do nothing to infringe on his reign and thus he is free to do as he pleases. When things do not go well, he has Congress to blame.

      • eddie47d

An 8% approval rating doesn’t make Congress very credible.

      • DaveH

We can disapprove all we want, Eddie, but it won’t do any good until we act on the disapproval and throw them out of office.

      • Fed up

That’s not entirely true since all he’s been saying on his campain trail is that he can’t get his “Jobs Bill” passed because the congress is standing in the way of him making progress in creating jobs. The only jobs he wants to create is federal, public sector jobs for the unions. And he really just wants that money to seal the deal to his cronies with payback money for votes.

      • eddie47d

Every candidate has scratched the backs of their supporters or the businesses who donate so it doesn’t make a lick of difference whether Democrat or Republican. Just saw a chart from the Federal Budget Office which shows over the last few years private sector and union jobs pay about the same. Some of you have been told that the separation in income is extreme when it is not.

      • JeffH

eddie, what about the disparity in pay and benefits between the private sector and the “public sector unions”?

due to government decisions being driven by politics and special interest pressures, we see stories like the one that appeared on the front page of the April 10 issue of USA Today.

The article was titled “Benefits widen public, private workers’ pay gap.” It noted the following:

        • “The pay gap between government workers and lower-compensated private employees is growing as public employees enjoy sizable benefit growth even in a distressed economy, federal figures show. Public employees earned benefits worth an average of $13.38 an hour in December 2008, the latest available data, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) says. Private-sector workers got $7.98 an hour.”

        • “Overall, total compensation for state and local workers was $39.25 an hour — $11.90 more than in private business. In 2007, the gap in wages and benefits was $11.31.”

        • “A full-time government worker receives benefits worth an average of $27,830 per year. A private worker’s benefits are worth $16,598.”

According to the most recent Employer Costs for Employee Compensation survey from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of December 2009, state and local government employees earned total compensation of $39.60 an hour, compared to $27.42 an hour for private industry workers-a difference of over 44 percent. This includes 35 percent higher wages and nearly 69 percent greater benefits.

Private sector workers tend to be more productive than average government worker due to the lack of competitive forces in government. Private sector businesses face constant pressures of competition to innovate and improve their goods and services, lest they lose business to their competitors. Government agencies, by contrast, are typically monopolies protected by law, and thus are not subject to such competitive incentives and pressures.

Even if we were to assume that the productivity of public and private sector workers is equal, or that differences in job security were not a factor, this would not speak to the necessity or sheer number of government employees, and thus to the overall cost or necessity of government programs. Unlike the private sector, where decisions on the number and compensation of employees are driven by supply and demand and economic realities, the size and cost of government employees is driven by the political process. Thus, government employees’ labor unions are constantly pressuring legislators (who are frequently indebted to the unions for campaign contributions and other help provided to get them elected) to increase workers’ wages and benefits, and legislators are always creating or expanding government programs that may or may not be needed or effective. These pressures are independent of economic constraints, and are limited only to the extent that taxpayers refuse to consent to additional borrowing or tax increases.

      • DaveH

        Eddie,
If you saw a chart from the Federal Budget Office, why don’t you link to it so we can see it ourselves since you have no credibility?

      • eddie47d

Jeff is correct in saying that government employees receive better benefits such as healthcare than some private jobs. We both should have compared apples to apples. Such as the Post Office vs UPS. UPS employees receives $4.00 an hour more than a Postal employee and their pension benefits are even better than the USPS. Health benefits are about the same. My friend is a Postal employee and his son works for UPS so he knows about each.

        “To conquer, first divide!”

Talk is cheap but for some it pays very well and many aspire to be paid for it. Good luck
with that………since no democracies exist and that includes the good ole UNITED STATES,
the word has no meaning…..yet for some strange reason, it seems to be the mainstay of
politician’s and pundits. They seem to be proud of our DEMOCRACY and imposing it
        on everyone else.

The problem with this constant BABBLE is that in between the rhetoric and sophistry,
definition is lost and once this occurs actual understanding can be reduced to a “soundbite”,
the search for a single slogan that has enough significant mass appeal to accomplish what
it’s originator intends. In 1913, Webster’s Dictionary defined liberal as a “laissez faire”
capitalist. Not to worry……..things change…..even for words you would THINK couldn’t
be altered…….but consider the word DECIMATE……..a form of punishment used in the
Roman Legion for cowardice in battle or mutiny, where every tenth man was executed.
This word has over time become the equivilent of annihilate….and is used by people who
should know better. ( including military commanders ) and the most recent actual example
where it could have been said to apply, was a crash of a helicopter in Afganistan where 20
something Seals died, and since the total Seal Force is around 300, this would be pretty
close to a decimation. ( of the force )

The big thing now is the so-called INCOME TAX, which the Supreme Court has defined
as “profit and or gain.” ( or it did, when the illusion of the Constitution was still being
recognised as a valid check on Federal POWER. )

Individuals who are employed for an hourly wage or weekly salary, do NOT by definition
have INCOME……they provide or trade their TIME and ENERGY, in exchange for money
to SURVIVE!!!!!!! and surviving in this sense, would also include the anticipation of both
present and future requirements if possible.

If a nation operates using a financial system which adopts the Keynesian or inflationary
model, this approach not only discourages a prudent responsible anticipation of future
needs, it puts the potential means of accomplishing this task, out of reach for the majority,
because it encourages both debt and immediate consumption……..while providing the
least productive element of society, the government with a blank check….which it will continue
to cash, because it’s debt obligation will theoretically be reduced by the inflationary forces
at work. This model operates on the myth of infinite growth……for this model to succeed,
requires access to “infinite resources” and since the latter does not exist, the former can
not succeed. We have reached this REALITY…..refusing to recognize it will NOT change
the outcome. Unfortunately, the agent of change being relied on, is the GOVERNMENT,
and it and those who have corrupted it, have no interest in accepting the reality, or addressing it
        in any meaningful way.

The current conventional wisdom being touted is “economic growth”, if only we could return
to those “thrilling days of yester year”, things would be okay. Not going to happen, because the
bill has come due and it has to be paid first. Your GOVERNMENT, however, instead of taking
it’s lumps and forcing those responsible ( besides itself ) to pay it, decided to bail them out….
which simply delays the inevitable, and increases the pain…..for those who failed are still in
the game, but it is not a game they understand anymore than they did the last game……so they
are waiting for “clarity” to begin. ( which means they are waiting for something that will not occur,
while waiting for what should have occurred to eventually occur.) Meanwhile, you have your choice
of candidates, none of whom can or will solve your problem. And a Constitution, which has also become a myth……generating a lot of BABBLE, but little clarity.

So to close this lenghty piece, for me anyway, let us eximine Article Three, which describes
the available “jusrisdictions” as. (common) “law and equity” as well as “admiralty and maritime.”
Your mission, if you decide to accept it…….is to find any court in the land, at any level of government
where “law and equity” apply or are in force? If such courts can not be found, what would a
reasonable person conclude is the “jurisdiction” of the court’s that do exist?

Where are the politicians or pundits at the center of this BABBLE, that are asking THIS QUESTION?

Feel free to continue what you were doing……

Patrick — You sound like a defeatist and that is sad . Perhaps you should read the book by James Best, ” Tempest at Dawn” It is in novel form — a story of the founding of our nation and the toil of coming up with the plan for doing so — To begin with Patrick our nation is not a Democracy but a Republic. To give you the difference of the two –just a short example. A Democracy is twelve wolves and One lamb deciding what they are going to have for supper.. And that is what this joke of a President is doing with the help of a congress who was supposed to balance that power.
Second we do have some very hopeful candidates out there and for you to say otherwise just shows you to be the defeatist you are. Pick a candidate Patrick and then support him or her. For me Herman Cain is the one and since he does not have any political experience he does not have any of that weakness of wanting absolute power . In his life he had to account to people. Nowadays our politicians account to no one except to those that furnish them money. And that is why we need term limits but very restricted ones. The limits we have now especially as a governor of a state is two terms and then one can go into another political office and after that he can go into another political office and eventually he can run for governor again as did our brilliant Jerry Brown in California. Lets get it so that politics does not become a career — there is no need for it. Our founding fathers were not career politicians and they hurdled more obstacles than we have today. They founded this nation — it is up to us to keep it and not by whining about how nothing can be done – You can do something —vote for Herman Cain or some other conservative candidate and if it must be a politician Newt Gingrich is as good as they come. — Pete Maniscalco

        “To conquer, first divide!”

I apologise for the difficulty caused by the spacing pete, which caused you to miss the POINT. ( that we are NOT democracy is quite clear to me ) Would be nice if ole Bob provided a “view before posting button” to correct these things, but the opinion entitlement here is really not Bob’s concern……this is a BUSINESS for HIM, so general ignorance is a plus…..

Feel free to VOTE early and often….it won’t matter, and whether I vote or not…..as a citizen, I am fully protected by the Constitution
of the united States of America. So I have used my energies to learn about and exercise those PROTECTIONS, in spite of the fact that we
have essentially been made “chattel” by the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, under admiralty and maritime law, and the Uniform Commercial Code which
requires you to “reserve your rights” before you need them, in order to claim them when you do.

When you find a candidate that understands or is willing to explain this….then YOU might have a chance……as for your poster boy,
9+9+9=27 and this is just the FEDERAL TAKE….then add all the local stuff and you are a long way from the 10% God needs. ( and I’m pretty sure God really doesn’t need money because every sunday I take all my cash on hand and throw it up in the air….and every time it all comes back….and I figure if he really needed it, he could just take what he wants. )

BTW one of the difficulties in actually educating yourself to the state of the LAW….is the fact that your right to “assistance of counsel” has to changed to mean an “attorney, educated in a LAW SCHOOL, and a member of the BAR” ( except in Vermont ) and these people are prohibited from raising the “defenses” you require, even if they knew about them……which they don’t. It has been so long, in fact, that even the judges are clueless…..and since the justice system, isn’t about justice…..only YOU can protect yourself, which means…..you need to stop reading novels. Try The Freeman Compendium, if you can find it. Or Who’s Afraid of the IRS. Or stuff by Irwin Schiff………Applied Knowledge is POWER……Willful Ignorance on the other hand……invites it’s ABUSE.

Anyway, the real point is that there is a bill due and nothing changes
until it gets paid…….and even then things will be different…..but here’s your REALITY…..both the housing market
and the stock market need to return to correct levels…..which means all that bubble wealth created with inflation will need to disappear
and since this has been going on for a LONG time…..no one will escape.

“Do not ask for whom the bell tolls…….”

Patrick, Article 3, Section 2 says “The judicial Power shall extend to” the types of cases listed therein, and two of those were deleted by the 11th Amendment. Which says federal courts do not have power to hear all types of cases. For example, they do not have authority to hear cases where a party is not a citizen of the United States (hence why Scott v. Sandford was dismissed for lack of jurisdiction). And they don’t have power to hear cases where both parties are of the same State, (such as Row v. Wade, and Lawrence v. Texas).

Oh and downsizeDC has a good campaign to use to remind our representatives of some of the most basic details of the document they obviously have not read AND understood.

Another thing is America is not a Democracy, America is a Republic when working correctly eliminates the problems of the Democratic Majority having too much control.

      • Vic Bailey

As long as we let this corrupt government grow and start all the wars it wants and keep growing with more and more overpaid government employees, the closer we are comming to destroy ourselves. An unchecked government means a dying country! The Constitution has provisions in it to guard against this sort of thing, but the Socialist government is not playing by Constitutional rules and laws. Reason being “TOO MANY CORRUPT SOCIALIST JUDGES AND LAWYERS” in our represenative offices. The smaller the government the more proserous the people and country!!! The bigger the government the the less of everything for the people and the country! Wake up people we have the right laws that will keep this government in check but we have to demand the government to use it, THE CONSTITUTION! Semper Fi.

    • lkar

A truely conservative/libertarien Republican would win the nomination, they could have so much campaign gold in the utter hypocrisy of BHO and the liberal left! They just do not seem to have the cajoles to go after the truth.

      • Skyknight

You have a good point Ikar. However, the liberial controlled media seems to be pushing the one GOP candidite that is not a conservitive which is the RINO Romney. Unfortunately, there are a lot of Republicans that do not see that fact either.
We need a real conservitive that will clean house of the Communist that now infest our White House.

      • DaveH

There are only two running — Ron Paul and Gary Johnson, and the Lame Stream Media has effectively silenced Gary.

      • eddie47d

Skyknight; There is no communist in the White House no matter what anyone says. That’s demeaning chatter from the far right. Obama is too far in bed with corporations to even be a socialist.LOL

      • Papa

Obama is a Marxist, which is in the middle of the scale between Socialist and Communist. Anyone who understands political systems knows that…

      • eddie47d

That’s your opinion papa and nothing else. You are only saying what you are told.

      • Dennis48e

that is your opinion eddie and we know what that is worth

      • http://google.com Rob

Ikar, you are absolutely correct. A true Conservative would blow Obama out of the water if for no other reason than to offer the people a clear and opposite choice. The Establishment GOP and the Liberal Media bury the Conservative Candidate every chance they get. The Elite Republicans don’t want a true Conservative anymore than the Democrats do.

    • Monte

The ancient Greeks, who incidentally created democracy, labeled it as mob rule. Considering today’s America, I would be inclined to agree. The problem is we have an ever expanding parasite class, helped enormously by our open border policies. These people are out for anything they can get for free. In most cases, I don’t believe their thoughts go much, if at all, beyond their selfish desires. The Democratic Party promises them freebies for their vote. They vote them into office for the freebies. But it is a scam, for the Democrats bring with them their vile, evil Marxist doctrines. And those that voted for them could care less, so long as they are getting something for free. In this way, evil policies are put into action against the overwhelming disapproval of thinking, tax paying Americans. No wonder patriotic Americans find themselves living in a country they less and less recognize.

      • Nadzieja Batki

I would agree with you up to a point. We do have illegals or invaders as that is what they really are. But when these people go to schools, hospitals, or social services they are greeted with a smile and “may I help you” from the clerks. So who is really doing more harm to this country.

    • Mushin

      WELL SAID!

    • Old Henry

Yes s c, to use their own vernacular:
Let’s take the sons of bitches out and send them straight to hell.

    • JJM

So will the Democracy force JD to move? I would consider the benefit/risk cost analysis. When those who pay no longer exist, those who take will get nothing. Forget Democracy, Restore the Republic!!

Here is a quote that I’d like to pass along. It does a good job of explaining our current state of affairs. I hope you find it useful…
Alexander Fraser Tytler (1747-1813), a Scottish-born British lawyer once wrote:
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship.
The average age of the world’s great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage.” – Anonymous

Jack Daniels can move to my county I am sure it will be glad to have something besides chicken processing as an industry. I would have to consider coming out of retirement to work there.

    • Michael

I concur with the comments this country is ruled by career politicians who have no vested interests in the voters. An incumbent has to extremely unlucky not to get re elected, but hopefully in Nov 12, this will happen more and more. The Republicans are only marginally interested in reducing spending, so let us not be fooled by their ‘tough talk’. The only difference between Boehner/Cantor and Pelosi/Reid is the side of the aisle they occupy.

      • Nadzieja Batki

Who said that politicians are interested in the voters once they get in power.
The whole transaction was to con people so that the politicians would get the power and the perks that go with it.
People, start to study what tribal societies are like or were like and that is what Democracies become with their usual pecking orders and tribal chieftains. It is hard to imagine our leaders and ourselves that way but that is exactly what we have become.

    • Lee Baldwin

Jacj Daniels should pull out the, OK, were are moving out of your marxist county. You will enjoy no tourist dollars, no tax dollars and we will NOT ship JacK Daniels product to your county EVER AGAIN.

    • professor

We could easily be experiencing “tyranny by the majority.” Add the liberals and socialists in the democratic party, to the 43% that doesn’t pay taxes, thrown in the hordes of illegal alien voters, the libertarians and other radicals, and it seems We could easily suffer at the greedy whim of “a majority.”

Robert makes a good point when he talks about the growing number of socialists, cannibalizing their own benefactors. Socialism is great until the libs run out of other people’s money. Most every night, in one form or the other, we hear examples of class warfare, on the evening news. It seems these union members, indigents, and other freeloaders never stop to think much beyond their most recent government check. Eventually, their benefactors will leave the country and take their money, or find a way imaginative way to keep from being cannibalized by the majority.

Would the useless prey upon one another, at that point. Most likely they would, after setting the country on fire, taking out the few taxpayers that stayed behind, and burning what little assets they could find. At the end of the day, when the firss burned themselves out, what happens to the mobs. My guess would be that they just might be the first in those fema camps. This regime will have no use for angry people that aren’t skilled and are not unwilling to work. The useless won’t be worth the problems that the regime would inherit by keeping them around. They wouldn’t be needed at the polls. The elections would have been suspended, because of their own actions, making them allquite useless to the very people that urged them to violence. Whatever the mobs of the greedy and the useless would expect to gain, won’t happen. And what they do get won’t be to their liking.

As for Biden, he is the “village idiot,” in Washington. I am amused at his recent rants, when an afternoon nap used to be his utmost priority. The pressure must be building on the democrats when bungling Biden, is “acting out” like a chipmunk on crack.

SC, You are a breath of fresh air and we need another million of you.
The task to save this nation is a daunting one because we have allowed the government to define the terms of our education and therefore we as a group do not have one.
For instance we keep being told how wonderful Democracy is. Our politicians are continuously spouting words about democracy is coming to the Middle East as if that is a good thing.
No one seems to realize that democracy is ‘Mob Rule’ at the core. Which means that who ever brings most thugs to the meeting makes the rules for everyone.
Thank God that we do not have a Democracy and the word is not in any document concerning the United States of America.
The first task is to re-educate our citizens to what a Republic is and then to speak to them with the words that are actually in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
It is going to be a hard task to take back the country and divest it of 75% of the bureaucrats and agencies. Then we will have a chance to survive as a nation.
