Village Considers Eating Behind Wheel Ban

OAK PARK, Ill., Oct. 14 (UPI) — A Chicago suburb is weighing a potential ban on motorists eating, drinking, applying makeup or talking on the phone while behind the wheel.
Oak Park officials said there is no formal proposal yet, but they have been discussing banning activities such as eating and drinking while driving as part of a crackdown on distracted drivers, WLS-TV, Chicago, reported Friday.
Some residents said they would not agree with such a ban.
“If you’re eating a four-course meal in your car probably you should not be doing that, but if you’re having a granola bar, who cares?” resident Doug Fagans said.
Village trustees said there will be more research conducted before any action is taken and the issue is likely to be discussed further in January.
