‘Underdog’ Obama’s Campaign Coffers At $70 Million For Third Quarter

The incessant campaigning that President Barack Obama has been accused of in past months has apparently paid off; he raked $70.1 million in third quarter contributions for his 2012 campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

While the number is lower than the $88 million raked in during the preceding funding quarter, POLITICO reports that the President’s campaign is doing much better at raising funds than it is at achieving high approval numbers in polls.

GOP Presidential contenders are reportedly expected to have raised cumulatively about half as much as Obama. The Republican National Committee raised $9.3 million over the same period, but reportedly has millions of dollars in debt.

Despite having raised massive amounts of campaign money, the President’s campaign officials are still attempting to depict Obama as an underdog who faces GOP special interest power.

“We’re up against a Republican Party and special interest-funded groups that will spend hundreds of millions of dollars spreading any message that they believe will defeat the president and roll back our efforts to build a fairer economy that rewards hard work and responsibility, not large corporations,” wrote Obama campaign organizer Jim Messina in an email to supporters.

Messina said the new cash is being used to establish the campaign’s infrastructure in battleground States.

    JimH: The US Chamber of Commerce is not at all like your local chamber.Are you living in a cave?The KKK doesn’t have to donate anything if they don’t want to.Also in today’s world the Supreme Court ruled in favor of no money trails to follow.We will never know how much India and China donate to the GOP.

      There is proof that Chinese donated to Clinton. There is nothing pointing to Rep’s getting Chinese money but your infering it.

    The GOP is going to receive $200 million from the Koch brothers and $285 million from Roves group.That’s just for starters.Them when the US Chamber of Commerce that represents China,France, India, big oil and Wall Street start kicking in the hundreds of millions it will be a close race.Not to mention the KKK and all the other white power groups that back the GOP.

      Strange you bring up China, the Clintons aren’t Republicans.
      If you follow the money you will find Wall Street donates more to Dems than Reps.
      The chamber of commerce I understand, Rep’s are more small business friendly than Dems. They are just looking out for their own best intrest, like any other donor.

    Boo frickin’ hoo! Obummer has spread around so much money in the last 2 years or so that it’s a wonder that some of his ‘friends’ haven’t reported that some of it has been “stolen.” He loves to rant about the other side having access to so much money, yet unions, certain Wall Street strumpets, foreign sources and the DNC’s campaign chest will provide whatever is needed to compensate for hordes of doubting voters.
    As a last resort (though it will never happen), Obummer can always rely on Ben the Boob to crank up the printing presses. Underdog, my arse. Underputz or underyutz is more like it, folks.

    The truth of the matter is that this money is NOT donations to his campaign by contributors… This money came from the tax payers as a good-ole-boy deal from oblamas supporters.. It is the SAME money oblama gave these people during his stimulus program bought and paid by average joe tax payer.

      It sure isn’t about JOBS.
      The fact he feels the need to extort more campaign funds means he hasn’t made a firm decision about canceling the 2012 elections.(yet)

      The Crony Capitalists are pulling out all the stops in a desperate attempt to beat the Awakening citizens to the finish line of tyranny.
      Will it work? Only time will tell, but I doubt it. With our history of constantly being reminded by our despotic Government that we have “Freedom” here, our citizens are finally actually expecting more than just Lip Service. Imagine that.

      JH, I won’t guess where you stand on politics [conservative, utopian, neocon, closet socialist, etc.]. However, when people talk about taxing the rich/soaking the rich, they tend to be divided into two distinct camps. The first wants income to be taxed. The second wants total wealth to be taxed. Some people who respond to this website have things to hide when they talk about taxation. Which type are you talking about?
      This will tell me much about your politics. It will also tell me much about the way you use words to imply what you want. And, it will tell me why you send responses to this website. So, do you favor #1 or #2?

        sc,Since inflection can’t be written you may not have recognized the sarcasm. I would like to point out the irony that the so called “evil rich” who are donating millions to the Obama campaign wouldn’t have it to donate if the lib Dems had their way, because it would have been taxed away from them.
        Taxing income or wealth? if you tax wealth, you would be taxing it after the income was already taxed. That would mean that people like Paris Hilton, who live off off Daddies money but never earned any new income would have to pay. As fun as that may be, her money was already taxed once.
        I have to pay a % of my income and I believe that same % should be charged across the board. Not higher if one earns higher income.
        Unfortunatly income isn’t the only thing taxed and the more some one spends the more sales tax is payed, a more expensive house pays more property tax etc. A rich person can still live frugally in a smaller house and choose to save that money. That would be their freedom to choose.
        Income, not wealth should be taxed. And gov budgets should be cut so that tax could be lowered for everyone.
