Arrest made in Calif. freeway shootings
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Police credited an alert citizen with helping them make an arrest Tuesday in a string of freeway shootings in the San Diego area.
Enrique Avon, 24, was arrested after California Highway Patrol officers pulled over his car about 10:15 a.m. on a freeway on-ramp in Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Avon is suspected of wounding one motorist and hitting two cars and an ambulance Monday. He became a person of interest after his car was identified by witnesses as the shooter's vehicle, the highway patrol said.
CHP spokesman Art Athans said initial tests showed the same gun was used in all four shootings. It wasn't clear whether the shooter acted alone, he said.
San Diego police investigators were on their way to Los Angeles to question Avon, the Times said.
