New York Rooster Beloved By Most Neighbors

NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (UPI) — Most residents of a New York City neighborhood like having a rooster living nearby, the bird’s owner says.

Feliz Santiago, 70, said there was some tension in his Brooklyn neighborhood after he received Coco the Rooster as a gift from a friend three years ago, but most people have accepted the bird, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

“In the beginning, people used to complain about the rooster waking everyone up,” Santiago said. “Now the whole neighborhood loves Coco.”

Bus driver Bobby Snelling said he is grateful for Coco’s daily wake-up calls.

“Five a.m. every morning I hear that rooster,” he said. “Coco wakes me up every morning right on time. I love it.”

Other neighbors said they are grateful for the eggs they receive from Coco’s chicken companion, Tania.

Everette Groves, 65, said he is not a fan of the fowl.

“I want to kill that rooster,” he said. “I used to think that roosters only made noise in the morning. This rooster has an attitude. It don’t stop.”
