As we age, we assimilate less and less B12, leaving us vulnerable to increasingly higher levels of homocysteine and leading to sustained inflammation, heart disease and all the diseases of aging.
My study has shown that above age 65 there is very little stomach intrinsic factor. This means that B12 by tablet is practically ineffective.
B12 is very important, so we have to get prescription B12 liquid and small diabetic needles and take injections. I do the injections myself and I give them to my wife.
Dr. Jonathan Wright wrote in his October 2010 Nutrition and Healing that he recommends lowering homocysteine levels with 1,000 micrograms (mcg) daily of folate (as methylfolate or folinic acid) with regular vitamins B6, 50 milligrams (mg) daily. He also recommended 1,000 mcg daily of B12 as methylcobalamin.
It’s easy enough to get high potency folic acid, but it would take a lot of injections to come up to 1,000 mcg daily unless we can get a superior benefit from Solgar sublingual liquid B12 2,000 mcg. The label on the box says the liquid formula does not need to be broken down in the digestive tract.
This seems to bypass the need for intrinsic factor. If so, this would be great for much larger doses of B12 without injections.
Think what this would mean in terms of reducing homocysteines and deadly inflammation!
