WATERLOO, Iowa, Sept. 16 (UPI) — Police in Iowa said they arrested an 18-year-old man accused of stealing about $900 in quarters from a car wash.
Investigators said the owner of the Guppies on the Go car wash in Waterloo called 911 Aug. 12 and reported the theft, which was recorded by a security camera, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls (Iowa) Courier reported Thursday.
Police said officers were later called to a Walmart in Cedar Falls on a report of three individuals cashing in hundreds of dollars worth of quarters.
Carlos Rios, 18, was arrested Sept. 6 on suspicion of third-degree burglary. He told police he did not participate in the theft but admitted helping cash in the coins.
Police said a search of Rios’ home found clothing similar to that worn by the burglar recorded by the security camera.
Rios was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail in lieu of $9,500 bond.
