Reclaiming The American Dream

September 13, 2011 by

Reclaiming The American Dream

One of the many patriotic slogans that has become popular as the 2012 election campaigns swing into full gear is “reclaiming the American Dream.” But in order to reclaim something, you must first understand what it is, and I can tell you with certainty that the American Dream is not what power-focused politicians would like you to believe it is.

It is not about “socially progressive” judges promoting “social justice.” It is not about government micromanaging people’s lives. It is not about punishing success. And it certainly is not about politicians divvying up an imaginary financial pie in a way that they believe is most likely to keep them in power.

The American Dream is about self‑responsibility — about an individual’s right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And the only way he can pursue those rights is if the government leaves him alone.

No government has a right to interfere with the sovereignty of any individual. “American Government,” said Rose Wilder Lane, “is not an Authority; it has no control over individuals and no responsibility for their affairs. American Government is a permission which free individuals grant to certain men to use force in certain necessary and strictly limited ways; a permission which Americans can always withdraw from American Government.”

People who believe they need big government, run mostly by those who have never worked a day in their collective lives, to “reclaim” the American Dream for themselves are sadly mistaken. Government has nothing to do with the American Dream. The American Dream is a way of life that can be experienced only by free individuals.

Those who believe in the real American Dream cannot be distinguished by race, religious belief, nationality, occupation or sex. They can be distinguished only by their common belief that liberty must be accorded a higher priority than all other objectives.

The American Dream means the freedom to pursue a better life, and it was that freedom that inspired millions of people to cross the oceans to reach America. Those millions of immigrants were not looking for government handouts. They were looking for opportunity, and that’s what the American Dream gave them.

In The Federalist Papers, James Madison warned, “In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: You must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”

Madison’s warnings were not heeded. The government did not, and does not, “control itself.” “Government by the people” has come to mean government by those in power. Ironically, the way this is accomplished is through a sleight of hand called “representative government,” which gives people a false sense of control.

As Alvin Toffler pointed out 30 years ago, representative government is but an illusion. Letting people vote every few years is the equivalent of throwing them a piece of raw meat. Once the election circus is over, they learn once again that they have virtually no power.

As early as 1857, Thomas Macaulay, the British historian, predicted what the inevitable results of majority rule would be when he said:

The day will come when [in the United States] a multitude of people will choose the legislature. Is it possible to doubt what sort of a legislature will be chosen? On the one side is a statesman preaching patience, respect for rights, strict observance of public faith. On the other is a demagogue ranting about the tyranny of capitalism and usurers and asking why anybody should be permitted to drink Champagne and to ride in a carriage while thousands of honest people are in want of necessaries. Which of the candidates is likely to be preferred by a workman? … When Society has entered on this downward progress, either civilization or liberty must perish. Either some Caesar or Napoleon will seize the reins of government with a strong hand, or your Republic will be as fearfully plundered and laid waste by barbarians in the twentieth century as the Roman Empire in the fifth; with this difference, that the Huns and vandals who ravaged the Roman Empire came from without, and that your Huns and vandals will have been engendered within your country, by your own institutions.

Macaulay’s powers of prophecy were incredibly accurate. Our democratic republic has destroyed itself through an excess of democracy. Majority rule has evolved into a free‑for‑all stampede of citizens appealing to politicians to give them an ever greater share of the plunder. And there is never a shortage of vile human beings who are willing to resort to euphemistic slogans like “reclaiming the American Dream” in an effort to accommodate them.

Rational people know there is something very wrong with our once-proud culture. We live in an age of tension and uncertainty. Ill will and fear are all around us. In the 1970s, Eric Hoffer observed that “the feeling of doom is stronger now. There is a widespread feeling that our economic system and our civilization are nearing their end. In the 1930s we still had values, ideals, hopes, illusions, certitudes. In the 1970s many people see life drained of meaning, and there is hardly a certitude left.”

Which begs the question: If those were Eric Hoffer’s thoughts 40 years ago, what would he have to say about today’s state of the union? I kind of doubt he’d buy into the notion that the promise of more government control over people’s lives equates to “reclaiming the American Dream.”

Even if we are successful in evicting the nation’s first anti-American President from the White House in 2012, people must understand that a new face in the Oval Office is not the solution to their No. 1 problem: a continuing loss of freedom. Freedom will always elude those who are not willing to fight for it.

Thus, the dominant question that confronts us is: Do moral, self-responsible individuals in this country harbor a great enough love of freedom to fight to reclaim it? Regardless of how the 2012 elections turn out, we will get the answer to that question fairly quickly because we are just now arriving at the tipping point.

    Mr. Ringer is correct..

I think that he is saying what most of us have been discussing all this time.

And without any doubt all of this will come to a head probably sooner than later.

    • JeffH

Raggs, it must come to a head, otherwise we, as a free nation, are doomed…that’s the reality. The last thing I ever want to hear from our government is “I’m from the government and I’m here to help”…that’s just plain scary!

  • 45caliber

To many people, the “American dream” is to get on welfare and get the government to give them more “free” stuff.

  • s c

To reclaim the Amercian Dream we must a) get RID of the two living nightmares in the White House b) clean house in the Senate and House and c) STOP getting involved in the machinations and lying needs of other countries. America is NOT the world’s cop.
If at all possible, those among us who have never been happy being Americans should LEAVE. It is our right to be FREE. Anyone who would make slaves of children via a wannabe utopia merits a quick death. God knows we have had legions of such subhuman vermin for longer than anyone can remember. End the nightmare. Reclaim America.

    • Jyrine

It’s not a right to be free, it’s a privilege. You have to chip in something to the effort!

Hi, it is that South African again.

We have a perception that democracy is the ultimate objective in life. People do not realize that democracy is about 5 seconds long. It lasts from the time that you step into the voting booth till you make your cross/mark on the ballot paper. After this you are governed by a minority who thinks that they represent the “will of the voters.” Nothing is further from the truth, we have seen this happening in South Africa where the majority of the voters asks for the return of the death penalty for murder and rape but the government ignores this. We are very happy that our statistics for murder decreased to +/- 56700, rape to 57000 and burglaries 166000. Freedom means that 1 murder is an excess, 1 rape is unacceptable and 1 burglary is 1 too many.

I would rather have freedom instead of democracy any time of the day. The freedom to choose with who you associate, freedom to do what you need to do to survive, the freedom to pursue your own objectives and freedom from unacceptable government policies within the broad definition of being treated as you treat others. Idyllic of course, but it still is far better than “democracy”.

    • 45caliber

I agree with you. We need the freedom to decide what to do and who to do it with – not someone telling us.

    • http://deleted Claire

Robert Bradfield–And I agree with you. Good to hear from you again.

    • http://?? Joe H.

      Robert Bradfield,
Your countries rapes, murders. and burglaries went down when you got rid of the NATO troops!! They were doing a great number of them!

  • TheRealBob

The American dream used to be “Work hard and prosper.” Now, thanks to unions and the scumocrats, the dream is to “Let someone else work hard and prosper from their work.” Any reasonable person can see that this is the recipe for social disentegration, but America is no longer a country of reasonable people.

    • 45caliber

Rome once decided to feed the beggars. The population doubled almost overnight. To keep the crime down as beggars robbed people, they set up the circus to keep them entertained.

Today we feed the beggars here in our country. And we get millions more a year to feed. We provide the circus – although we call it a TV. Our gladiator games are football, etc. And when someone there bleeds, the beggars sit on the edge of their seats cheering.

The Roman Empire was destroyed. Does that tell us anything?

      • TheRealBob

Yes it does, unfortunately, too many in the US today are too stupid to understand the lessons of history.

      • bob wire

Or you could look at it in terms of; when Cesar decided to go to a “gold standard” his time grew short and the ideas stuck! and Rome fell in short time.

But it truth, Rome citizenry were over feed fat cats that lived off the efforts of occupied nations that actually worked at something besides the pursuit of conquest and serfdom for many centuries.

  • Robert Berger

Yes, people should work hard and be responsible. But there HAS to be a safety net for those down on their luck. The problem with conservatives today is that they foolishly mistake the existence of that safety net for “socialism”, even though the two are not the same thing at all.
In their zeal to avoid”big government” and to keep the government “off our backs”, many of these conservative politicians would destroy or greatly weaken that safety net, and the results would be catastrophic for millions of helpless but deserving Americans, and the nation as a whole.
There aren’t millions of lazy bums in America who want the government to support them for life. The vast majority of Americans very much want to work and support themselves, and to be secure throughout their lives. But socio-economic conditions in America make it extremely hard if not impossible for many people to do this.
But conservatives falsely claim that liberal politicians, especially Obama, want to foster a society where millions are dependent on the government, in order to impose “socialism” on America.
Conservatives say that private charities should provide help for those in need. But there’s one problem with this. While private charities are all well and good, it’s simply impossible for them to provide for all those in need. America can’t afford to lose its safety net.

    • 45caliber

      Robert:

There has to be a safety net? Well, it was once called the church and community. People would take care of those who need it.

Our church and community try to do the same. But 90% of those who want the help don’t need it. Many even try to sue if they don’t get it.

It reminds me of a problem we had in our state some years ago. One school district sued the state to equalize school financing. The plaintiff was the second richest district in the state but it was next to the richest district and wanted some of their money too. Now our system has gone downhill fast due to all the school problems here.

    • ValDm

Nice little speech, but it doesn’t even begin to explain the type of generational welfare I see living across the street from me. Not counting the children, there are 3, THREE generations getting welfare in this family……….somewhat different than the “down on their luck” scenerio you mentioned.

      • Karolyn

They are not the majority of those in need.

      • Song

Then who are the majority Karolyn, because that is exactly the Majority of the people that I work with – EVERY DAY

      • Karolyn

It would seem that these days the majority of those in need are people who have never been in that position before.

      • http://deleted Claire

Karolyn: I do know a few more people that have become “needy.” In one case, it was unavoidable, their health went to hell in a handbasket and they did not have sufficient insurance. The other case was pure foolhardiness, they are reaping what they have sown.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Karolyn,
I worked for 3 years with a kid that would only work 40 hours a week, never overtime. come to find out he was just at the level to get food stamps and if he worked an hour of overtime they would cut his stamps!
My father lived accross the street from a family that the mother had three kids and the father died. She was living with a guy that made 400 a week. she got ADC, food stamps and a death benefit from her late husband. Together, with overtime and others, they made almost 2300 a month and were always broke at mid month as he got paid every two weeks. I called the child welfare dept and they refused to come out as they couldn’t prove the guy lived there! What BULL!! There are more like this out there than you think, all you have to do is open your eyes and take off the rose colored glasses!!

      • Nadzieja Batki

Your “caring” for the “needy” is very suspicious. You, Karolyn, love to exert control over your clients clothing yourself in the do gooder mantle.

      • Karolyn

Nadzieja – Kindly keep your mouth shut about things you know nothing about. :-)

      • Nadzieja Batki

Karolyn, you may not have wanted to admit who you really are but surprise surprise, you just did.

      • Kate8

Nadzieja – Yep. The scariest words: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.

Granted, karolyn probably actually believes in what she’s doing. It’ all on a need-to-know basis.

      • eddie47d

Be careful in the future Karolyn in what you tell them about your life. They want all people to be on their own and if they are dependent on someone else for any reason they will rip you a new one as you well know. You have a job but they don’t like it and yes I have heard their name calling. Luckily I’ve never needed assistance although I have known a few over the years that did.I don’t care much for anyone who abuses the welfare system or even unemployment benefits. I also don’t have a crystal ball to know which ones are deliberately taking without a valid reason. I don’t know how many times on this site that they have said I must be on welfare and taking government handouts. That I am not a Christian. That I was never in the military. That I am a union thug. All lies but they( those on the right) condemn without knowing. It’s strange how they will ask us how much we earn and where we earn it yet they seldom if ever reveal what’s up in their life. I have nothing to hide but it sure sounds like they do.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Nadzieja,
from karolyns reaction to your comment, I’d say you might be close enough that it stung her a little!!

      • Karolyn

Nad & Joe – Your lack of perception leavs me speechless! :-)

      • 45caliber

        Karolyn:

Sadly, about seventy percent of those on Welfare ARE of this type. I’ve seen as many as six generations now on welfare and they look forward to getting on it rather than getting an education and getting a good job.

    • Dan

“While private charities are all well and good, it’s simply impossible for them to provide for all those in need. America can’t afford to lose its safety net.”

It’s not impossible to provide for those in need, It’s impossible to provide for all those in WANT.

Why do we have to give them a free ride while they sit at home, eat Cheetos, and watch Oprah. Can’t we figure out a way to give them a job instead of a free check? If we’re going to give them the check, why cant we put them to work.

If you’re going to get my hard EARNED money, then job training and drug testing should be MANDATORY! If you are truly down on your luck, then it seems that you would welcome some job training. And if you can’t pass a drug test, well… maybe that’s part of your problem, but it shouldn’t be my problem.

      • Song

So true Dan. I work with many young people that are so accustomed to the welfare and entitled mindset, that they actually think that there should be programs to pay from everything like driver’s education, getting them cars, cell phones and free internet. It is appalling and amazing at the same time. And, they are very rude about it.

      • Song

Oh, and I forgot to mention that they also don’t think they should have to work…LOL

      • Kate8

Song – So true. And BigBro has intentionally instilled that mindset.

Why do you suppose that is?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        Kate8,
Because it makes them dependent on big bro and less likely to try to shrink him!!!

    • Nadzieja Batki

The “safety net” was never meant to be the government. Why do you presuppose that people are so dumb and weak that they must have those safety nets? Who determines what commodities the safety nets are to be made of? Who controls the making of the safety nets and who determines who gets the goodies from the safety nets?
Why the urge to be human saviors instead of leaving people to do their own living? But then it has nothing to do with doing “good” to others but more with manipulating and controlling other people.

  • Becky

Really? The reason we are in the midst of this economic disaster is
because we deregulated business to the point that the unethical were
able to sleaze their way through the system and bankrupt our country.
Reclaiming the American Dream has to be about more than the individuals right to less Government, it has to be about EVERYONE doing the right thing for this country. Make no mistake, those who tell you that your freedom is being taken from you are trying to scare you into believing just that so they can enslave you further economically. Stop and think about it for a minute, how much of that wealth that was supposed to “trickle down” made it into your bank account? I have worked in the private sector for the large corporations that are using the system, protesting in the name of conservatism, and hijacking Christianity all so they can protect their profits; there the few are made super wealthy and the many support their way of life. We are nothing more than a means to an end for the unscrupulous. The middle class is being eradicated solely
because of the policies of these people. Wake up!!! You are being duped by liars who will say whatever they have to say in order to get back control of the Government so they can continue to plunder our country. Why are you all supporting their efforts? I challenge any individual with a family making less than $100k a year to show me where the policies of the Republican party made your lives better. Those policies that they are calling YOUR rights have nothing to do with the individual it is all about the corporate machines that own everything and own the people that you are wanting to put in office. It breaks my heart to see so many Americans that are completely blind to this. We are lving an Aldous Huxley nightmare and the ONLY way to wake up is to take power away from these entities that you are
so willingly handing it over to. You are being enslaved and you are
not only applauding their efforts to do this to you, you are funding it as well! It is an abomination of everything that this country and the founding father stood for. While you worry about the US Government taking away your freedom you are willingly giving it up to the corporations that own and are running your parties candidates. You have simply traded for a greater evil and don’t even realize it yet.

    • big wyo

Yeah becky and your Messiah was born in Hawii on golden love drenched night to a Virgin with 3 wise men present. While Uncle George soros runs your sh^% we put our money where our mouth is. Come on becky drop your liberal keyboard and pick up arms because its coming to that.
Resign barry and leave a copy of the BC at door on your way out.

    • Guardian9

I am an independent. I do not trust the Republican party any more than I trust the Democratic party. They are both bought and paid for by the big money boys. President Obama’s campaign received $970 million from Goldman Sachs. You need to wake up and smell the coffee. Big government is the enemy of the people because those big money guys you are decrying will always control big government whether they disguise themselves as Republicans under George Bush Crapitalism or Democrats under Obama Socialism.

    • John

Becky, The big companies were founded by people willing to take the risk of starting a business, working hard, and creating jobs. It is unfortunate that you have bypassed this fact. They lived the american dream. Most of the regulations placed on business by the government, comprised of both parties, have limited the ability of small businesses to even get started, including the amount of money taken by the government from each of us that make it prohibitive for any one of us to start our own business. But then, they worked for a living, got there, and all the people who are lacking the ethic of work, want to take it away from them. Amazing how that seems just like the socialist, and communist, who want to tear down this country. Trickle down means that these larger companies hired more people, so that they had the oppertunity to work and make their own way in the world, and bigger government took it away to give to the people who don’t work. What have you done to earn the money that the big corporations have worked to earn?? What gives us the right to demand they give us their money, that they worked hard for and earned?? I prefer to have the freedom to make my own way, and have the leaches take the life blood of other countries.

  • Michael

I believe frank Herbert said it best: Democracy is the “tyranny of the minority cloaked in the mask of the majority”. Until we remove the electoral college and return the American voter to his rightful place in national elections we are stuck with a two party system which will continue to swap places every few years. That along with term limits is the only way we can regain our freedom.

150 odd years ago we fought a civil war partly over slavery, which is becoming forgotten today. We now face civil unrest over freedom which our government educated citizens don’t understand as they have never been taught about personal responsibility.

    • Jyrine

Just in case you don’t get the concept of personal responsibility at home then you have to figure it out for yourself. The government will do all it can to diminish that aspect of freedom.

    • Joyce from Loris

Actually Brendan, according to the articles that were written during that era, the war was fought over TAXES and the lack of representation. The southern states paid 80% of all the taxes in the nation. The largest exports were cotton and tobacco, all grown in the southern states. The federal government refused to allow the south to ship their own products to England and other countries using their own ships. Instead, the south was forced to use government ships, and charged outrageous prices for that “service”. According to the census of 1860, only 5% of all southern people even owned a slave, the other 95% were not fighting a war so that the rich plantation owners could keep their slaves. The largest slave owner was a free black man in Louisiana. He owned 1500 slaves! You won’t find this information in your history books, you have to actually read the letters and newspaper articles of that time period. Lincoln did not free any slaves. He attempted to free the southern slaves, but as he was not the president over the Confederate States of American, he was powerless. He did not even attempt to free the slaves in the northern states. The freeing of the slaves came after his assasination. He did, however, declare genocide on the southern people in a letter written to Sherman that stated “kill all the southern people. Burn their churches, their houses, their livestocks and their fields.” In a second letter, he told Sherman “don’t forget to kill the southern children, as they will surely grow up to be rebels in response to what was done to their ancestors”. These letters are conveniently tucked away in the Smithsonian.

This nation has been way off course for many years and Robert Ringer has nailed it with this outstanding article. I just wish all Americans had a chance to read this article and that it be read in the chambers of the United States congress. At 80 years old I thank you Robert Ringer for reminding me the meaning of the American Dream as so many citizens today donot undersand AMERICANISM or even seem to care.

  • Free Mind

This article is clearly well thought out. No flaming rhetoric, just common sense facts. Still, how oh how do we get to the blind sheep? Forget reaching the Liberals; they are brainwashed, but how to get this message through to the hurting, uneducated before it is too late for all of us?

Many of my friends are blind and say “don’t send me political messages. I hate politics”. They think that everything will somehow turn out OK. The government likes these folks even better than they like their ‘Party Faithful’.

    America is doomed.

The way I see it is we need to take back our schools and start teaching the kids the truth. When the progressives took over that is when the dumbing down began and when they took over the movie theaters and tv the problems increased. So for now all we can do is start at the beginning and hopefully we can have the next generation start where we left off.Its not to late if we start now and run them all out of a job.But not doing it will not fix the problem! They are the next we the people and they can learn from our mistakes to not let it happen again.

    • http://www.propertyinspections-repairs.yolasite.com offgrid7

I will have to agree with you FREE MIND. The american citizenry is broken morally.

  • Henry Ledbetter

I totally agree each person must once again cherish freedom and realize it can only come from God and work for a moral people. I would recommend posting the Ten Commandments to remind us of our moral responsibility and obligations. Several years ago Our Lord placed it on my heart to give away Ten Commandment signs and in the end managed to give away nine hundred. On occasion I will go into a business with the sign still in the window but most of those that were placed in the yards have fell apart.but some homeowners do replace them. My personal belief is that they are a deterrent to stealing and in some cases immorality; If a thief comes to your house and is confronted with a sign that says, thou shall not steal, it may put the fear of God in at least some of them and they might just pass your place by. I will say that some thieves are so hardened that it will not work for them but in that case it opens them up to the chastening of The Lord; they can’t hide from Him. WHAT WE REALLY NEED IS A GOOD DOSE OF THE FEAR OF GOD.

Rick Parry, a bona fide Fundamentalist Evangelical Christian Extremist (acronym?), has stated publically that God has spoken to him re running for POTUS. As I recall, George W. Bush said the same thing. Does this mean that, if elected, Rick Parry will be channeling the mind of God in the same way that “W” did? I await you response and have a nice God-fearing day!

Gotta get to work. Hope everyone has a great day. I miss you guys and gals – ! :)

Well I know of no one that “can” vote for a living. I wonder how that works? Is it like one of those “work at home” jobs?

Now , I heard of working at the saw mill, eating saw dust and crapping 2X4′s but this sound like a better deal! much less wear & tear.

How about for a start, repeal the 12th amendment. Restore how we elect our govt types to the way the founders intended. That will allow for a greater balance of power. Next, adamantly enforce the 10th amendment. States rights were paramount to our founders and should be today. If a federal bill doesnt pass the muster of the 10th amendment, it never should be allowed. Third… term limits for congress – 2 terms for senate, 4 terms for reps. And they don’t get retirement.

    • TIME

      Mordunin,

First to get to that point we would have to have a “real” bill of rights and real Constitution, of what we don’t, thats why all thats going on is going on.
Thats even why we have Barry the 9th Cousin to GWB.

Please do you own backround research to prove this all to yourself’s, start in 1861, a good place would be ~ EO #1 ~ from that point on we have had niether a Constitution nor a Bill of Rights.
You only think you do. Once you understand what a Con Con is all this will make perfect sense but if you all wish to stay in the dark, well thats up to you.

Therefor we can’t fix anything until we ALL know the “ROOT” of the problem, what we are doing now is placing a nano sized band aid on a massive Grand Canyon like hole.

It’s really not unlike cutting off your toes rather than just trying on a larger size shoe.

      • Morduin00

        Time,

The problem is that I do know the history… spending the last few years reading up on it. And I am advocating returning to the original intent of the constitution. Just because we are not following the constitution now, doesnt mean it no longer exists. The principles espoused by our founding fathers in drafting that document can be alive again if we educate ourselves and act responsibly when electing our officials… and learning to say “no” to govt intervention.

      • Monte

In outline, Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies, sought to create a system identical to the English system. That is, a commercial/government system that operates on pure corruption. Henry Clay, an advocate, later dubbed it the ‘American System’. This became the platform for the Federalist Party. Patrick Henry saw through the ruse and refused to even attend the Constitutional convention. Jefferson, upon reaching office, cleaned house of the Federalists and gave birth to the State Rights party. The Federalist Party, afterwards, could never gain any traction and succumbed. It was followed later by the Whig, which also died from lack of popular support. Up until 1861 nearly all debates surrounded these two opposing views, the Hamiltonians vying for any issue to gain support, even dishonestly. So things remained until a cooperate lawyer won the presidency and brought the ‘American System’ to total power via an unconstitutional war. Thus was created the all-powerful central state (the very one that Webster tried to prove in the Webster-Hayne debates 30 years before). And, a result, so ended states-rights as a political entity.

      • TIME

Monte, What a wounderful post, I thank you so very much for your beautiful explanation.

As I keep digging up old documents and reviewing them I am in awe how simple it all is. But what really is beyond words is how well played the “Progressives” or perhaps better said the “loyal Crown followers” have played their hand.
But then again when the “TRUTH” has been shrouded in so many layers of Rhetoric the average citizen is lost on the basic meaning.

        Morduin,

Oddly you missed the point perhaps you should return and figure out what you missed. Thats not an insult, – its just what it is.

We have not had a Constitution nor Bill of Rights since 1861 when EO #1 was signed.
The first nail was the Con Con that makes both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights “Null & Void.”

Therefor again we “DO NOT have a Constitution nor Bill of Rights,” we have a business compact.
Its that simple, I will say this yet again Barry is little more than a CEO of the noted Company: the United States of America.

Our present government is The United Nations, rather any of you wish to believe that or not, its the TRUTH.
As some of you know, the TRUTH has no agenda.

Let me 100% clear I also had no idea until I sat down with members of Congress and asked why they were not doing their jobs?
As Barry had clearly broken the laws set forth in the Constitution.

They answered my question with the following; We can’t do anything until the elections in 2012.

        That my friend is the ROOT, BTW all I was given was this simple responce. {Look at what the real “Ramifications of Civil War” are.}
In plain words your congress persons all know it.
Thats why many of them act the way they do toward the American public, think Stark, Lugar, MacCain, Kerry, Liberman, Bush, Barry the list is cray long, we are all paying for this in BLOOD.

The only ones still in the dark are the American Public who are all going in all the wrong directions.
So again I say when you understand what a Con Con really is and what the Ramification truly are, all of you are just spinning your wheels.
As whats going on is 100% legal by the compact we belong to, thats why O care is being implemented, thats also why the Fed is what it is, its also why all of YOU pay TAX’s on April 15th, oddly its the same day thats been noted as TAX day all the way back to the Egyptians,, WOW how strange is that?

        Off grid,
Yes indeed I have looked into AG 21. I am sure that a many here who have also, but the vast amount have not even bothered to, nor would they even grasp what it is.

There are many who can’t or will not do the most basic of research as clearly evidenced by not grasping the basic fact that we have had a shadow government in place since 1861.
I would venture to think that many here still believe as I did that we were unscathed by the Civil War, that is other than the obvious carnage.

Yet From 1861 forward that shadow structure has been being built “stronger, tighter and smaller.”
Now that loop is now so tight that it will take a very small event to allow AG 21 to unfold in all its glory as well the real IRON FIST to be exposed.

I have to question how brave all these alledged Mad Max “road warriors” will be when faced with the fate that awaits them.

We can return to the Constitition and the government as our Founding Fathers envisioned but what is to be done about the change in the demographics of this country and also the mindset of all the generations that exist at this time period. This country’s messes didn’t occur all at once in a small area, they have taken generations and have swept across the whole world.
We also point out that freeloaders and human parasites and humans with predatory appetites(lying, stealing, conning, envy, etc.,) have damaged the country but we forget to mention the people who could not say NO to all the social programs that have been put in effect because they did not want to be perceived as uncaring, cold and callous about human “suffering”. Those “caring” people have actually done the most damage to the character of a nation.

  • Robert Smith

Question asked: “Do moral, self-responsible individuals in this country harbor a great enough love of freedom to fight to reclaim it? Regardless of how the 2012 elections turn out, we will get the answer to that question fairly quickly because we are just now arriving at the tipping point.”

Freedom is the right to defend ourselvbes. We need to defeat the gun grabbers.

Freedom is the right to decide how we use our bodies. We need to defeat those who force pregnancy to remain when unwanted.

Freedom to choose how to die. We need to defeat those who would insist we suffer in the name of their god.

Freedom is to choose how recreation is enjoyed. We need to defeat those who would put people in jail for recreational drugs.

Freedom is to choose who we marry. We need to defeat those who try to tell us who to marry, and worse deny those we love.

BTW, Eric Hoffer wrote a must read, “True Believers.” A brief insight can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_True_Believer

From that entry: “The book analyzes and attempts to explain the motives of the various types of personalities that give rise to mass movements; why and how mass movements start, progress and end; and the similarities between them, whether religious, political, radical or reactionary. As examples, the book often refers to Communism, Fascism, National Socialism, Christianity, Protestantism and Islam. Hoffer believes that mass movements are interchangeable,…”

Abortion isn’t “using our bodies,” it’s killing another, separate human being. Legalize drugs? Right, let’s see how many of the younger generation we can put on life-long dialysis. No one tells us who we can marry, as long as it’s someone of the opposite sex who’s not a close relative. It’s wrong to “marry” someone of the same sex, a squirrel, or a refrigerator.

      • http://Personalliberty Tony

        To Sjvet:
If you believe in the constitution, then you would respect a person’s
right to choose who they want to be with regardless of race, color,
creed, physical condition, or gender as long as it is with a consenting
adult. Furthermore, as long as people don’t force their views on others. Therefore, gays/lesbians should be able to marry who they want
given this criteria. True, they’ll have to answer to the good Lord
later but it’s their business. As a heterosexual, i have no right to judge. You, also, the same. Next when coming to abortion, again that’s
another person’s private choice as long as they’re a consenting adult.
Personally, i’m pro-life but i’m not going to force nor coerce my view
on another individual. You, too, don’t have that right either.
Finally, the topic of dealing with the insane war of drugs. I have said this upteen times yet i’ll say again. The insane war on drugs is no different than the days of Prohibition when alcoholic beverages were outlawed. During that time driveby shootings became the norm in
all settlements in this nation. Crime, literally, went out of control.
Eventually, this led to the rise of criminal bosses such as Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Hyman Roth, Dutch Schultz, Bugsy Segal, Bugsy Moran, plus Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson. Once Prohibition ended, crime receeded. Our settlements became safer the the fictional city of Mayberry in the Andy Griffith show of the 1960′s. Well , this is the same with the insane war on drugs. You see high murder rates in this nation’s cities and borders. This useless excersize has lead to criminal gangs like the Bloods, Crips, Disciples, Vice Lords, Black Stone Rangers, Mexican Mafia, Latin Kings, Asian Thongs, Hell’s Angels
, Outlaws, plus the Mafia. If we end this insane war on drugs by legalizing along with regulating them. The criminal element will be
taken out of it and the crime rate would decline by 85%. Thus, it’s time our society starts taking these steps. Alright, sorry for being long winded but we all need to see what’s going on. These policies our country has right now is not cutting it. Thanks!!

      • Karolyn

Great post! Most people who feel as SJvet feels, speak from more of an emotional standpoint, guided by their personal beliefs. if they would just set aside the personal and look at these issues logically, they might see the error.

      • http://Personalliberty Tony

        To Karolyn:
Thanks!! I’ve read alot of your posts and want you to know all conservatives aren’t these Tea Party types. Thus, thanks again!!

      • Cawmun Cents

        Where do I start?
In the early 20th century, organized crime was involved with many of the same things which they are today.Human trafficking, drugs, illicit making of alcoholic beverages, loan sharking, racketeering, the list is ongoing.
Today organized crime isnt what it used to be in the public eye.
        Why not?
Because it has gone from a criminal organization, into a government sanctioned business. The Feds took over what the mob and the syndicate used to control and not only run these rackets, but tax those who use those rackets for profit. They either set the former criminal institutions up in business, deciding merely to take a slice of the pie,or(my personal opine)created their own businesses regarding the former criminal entities labors and control the whole pie.
Bottom line is they didnt like the competiton.
Any of you folks out there who have this uillusion about the nobility of your political parties, needs his/her head examined.
It is not about the nobility of character at all.
It is done purely for say so.
It is this way because we say so.
There is not a shred of evidence that anything has changed since the inception of the modern system, with the possible exception that the mob and the syndicate are either working for or have loosely affiliated themselves with the Feds. That is doubtful as I dont see the Fed as wanting to share.
So what you have is a government sanctioned criminal enterprise, controlling most of the various aspects of your life.
Some folks are happy with that.
We see their posts every day saying what a blessing the gubment is in our lives.
Some want to control their own destiny.
They see freedom as being what is optimal. But the monetary system that is required to enjoy that freedom is a side of the same coin that they would refuse if they cuold.
So you have some who love the government(used to hate it,but now it has a clean, new, black face which they think brings it some type of legitmacy)and some who hate it.
This reminds me of those who lept from the tower during the 9/11 disaster.
Some were not going to let the conditions dictate how they went out.
Some today think of themselves as being like and kind to those with the ideals to bravely take flight instead of burning.
They are of course fooling themselves.
I speak of the left, and the atheist.
They perceive themselves as being those with the choice of burning and taking flight. They see themsleves as the ones with freedom in their hearts to choose take flight instead of burning.
But they arent seeing the conditions correctly.
They dont see the conditions as they truly are,but choose to view them in an opposite manner, for the sake of an opposite manner.
        Their fate.
        Their choice.
Those of us who know that taking flight is the truth, and the only way to go,are the ones in control of our own destiny. Those who coose to burn and call it feedom, have no control of their destiny.
They are dead and dont even perceive it.
They see taking flight as slavery.
        They think evil is good.
They choose to observe a backward stance, and call it progressive thinking. We are moving forward they say.Not understanding that they are facing the fire, not turning away from it.
They worship death and have a fatalistic approach to nearly everything but believe with all their intelligence that they are headed in the right direction, even from a left perspective.
Does that make me any better than they are?
        No.
But realistically I have somthing to look forward to past the edge of the tower.
I am not sure they understand that they do not.
Burn or take flight, that is the question isnt it?-CC.

      • Jibbs

        Here you go SJvet,
I’ve also include a link to the whole story.

Many people assume that marijuana was made illegal through some kind of process involving scientific, medical, and government hearings; that it was to protect the citizens from what was determined to be a dangerous drug.

The actual story shows a much different picture. Those who voted on the legal fate of this plant never had the facts, but were dependent on information supplied by those who had a specific agenda to deceive lawmakers. You’ll see below that the very first federal vote to prohibit marijuana was based entirely on a documented lie on the floor of the Senate.

You’ll also see that the history of marijuana’s criminalization is filled with:

        •Racism
        •Fear
        •Protection of Corporate Profits
        •Yellow Journalism
        •Ignorant, Incompetent, and/or Corrupt Legislators
        •Personal Career Advancement and Greed
These are the actual reasons marijuana is illegal.

        Background

For most of human history, marijuana has been completely legal. It’s not a recently discovered plant, nor is it a long-standing law. Marijuana has been illegal for less than 1% of the time that it’s been in use. Its known uses go back further than 7,000 B.C. and it was legal as recently as when Ronald Reagan was a boy.

The marijuana (hemp) plant, of course, has an incredible number of uses. The earliest known woven fabric was apparently of hemp, and over the centuries the plant was used for food, incense, cloth, rope, and much more. This adds to some of the confusion over its introduction in the United States, as the plant was well known from the early 1600′s, but did not reach public awareness as a recreational drug until the early 1900′s.

America’s first marijuana law was enacted at Jamestown Colony, Virginia in 1619. It was a law “ordering” all farmers to grow Indian hempseed. There were several other “must grow” laws over the next 200 years (you could be jailed for not growing hemp during times of shortage in Virginia between 1763 and 1767), and during most of that time, hemp was legal tender (you could even pay your taxes with hemp — try that today!) Hemp was such a critical crop for a number of purposes (including essential war requirements – rope, etc.) that the government went out of its way to encourage growth.

The United States Census of 1850 counted 8,327 hemp “plantations” (minimum 2,000-acre farm) growing cannabis hemp for cloth, canvas and even the cordage used for baling cotton.

      So, Robert,
Do you respect peoples’ freedom to spend their own hard-earned money, free from the grasping hands of others?
Do you respect peoples’ freedom to hire the workers of their choice to work for the companies that they risked their own money and pride to create?
Do you respect peoples’ freedom to pray where they want?
Do you respect peoples’ freedom to eat the foods of their choice unfettered by Government Food Nannies?
Do you respect peoples’ freedom to use the energy of their choice?
Do you respect peoples’ freedom to offer the goods and services of their choice to willing customers, free of interference from the do-gooders who think they know what’s best for others?

      • DaveH

It’s seems to me, Robert, that if you want Freedom, then you need to allow others their Freedom also. Freedom doesn’t stop where your personal preferences end.

      • Song

Excellent DaveH…why is it that Robert S. and Karolyn as so obsessed with the topic of abortion do you think? LOL

      • Robert Smith

I’ll answer for me: Forcing someone to remain pregnant when they don’t want to be is just as evil as forcing them to have an abortion if they don’t want one.

If you give government control to force a woman to remain pregnant then that same mechanism can be used to force abortion under a different administration.

Besides, it’s HER body, it’s HER choice. Usint her reproductive equipment to fulfill YOUR religion is still rape if she doesn’t want her reproducetive equipment used by another.

        Rob

      • DaveH

You conveniently didn’t answer my questions, Robert.
Is it because you recognize that your kind are every bit as much Forcers as those you whine about? Why is it that you expect respect from others for your Free Choices, but you don’t give that respect back for their Free Choices?

      • Nadzieja Batki

Karolyn and Robert Smith want to volunteer other people to commit abortions/murders to clean up after the messes of unwanted pregnancies. How about simply not having sexual relations if you don’t want the possibility of pregnancy. But that is too simple an answer.

      • eddie47d

I only see Conservatives who are obsessed with the abortion issue when it comes down to a woman’s decision and want to jail that woman for doing so. When there is war rape is a powerful weapon as in the Congo right now and in centuries past. When an army conquered a nation they encouraged getting the enemies woman pregnant so that baby would be a part of their ethnic blood. That way they could re- supply their losses in battle. China is on the other extreme where government insists on abortions. Neither scenario is an individuals choice but forced upon them. Legal abortion in this country doesn’t force a women to abort nor does it force a woman to have children.

    • Harold Dean

Well Rob, everyone is entitled to their opinions and in this country, majority opinion is the status quo. I personally believe that abortion is equivalent to murder but the majority says it must be offered. I have solaced my feelings with the thought that if a person chooses to do so then they must eventually answer to their God. The freedom to marry whomever you wish is perfectly okay as long as it is in fact a marriage between opposite sexes so thereby being a true marriage in the eyes of God which is the only truly legal marriage. As far as the second amendment rights are concerned, I firmly believe in them and they should be respected, however as a so called “recreational” drug user which is not a freedom covered under the Constitution or any of the amendments, I certainly would not want you brandishing any type of firearm around me while you are under the influence of your so called “recreational” drugs.

      • Robert Smith

Harold Dean says: “a true marriage in the eyes of God which is the only truly legal marriage.”

Really? Your god, your relilgion running America?

Nope. I’ll not give America to your christian version of the talibon.

        Rob

      • Robert Smith

From Harold Dean: “I certainly would not want you brandishing any type of firearm around me while you are under the influence of your so called “recreational” drugs.”

Such would be inrresponsible and thus punishable by society. It’s just as dumb as drunk driving which I’m in favor of dealing with harshly.

It’s not the drugs, cars, or the firearms, that are a problem. It’s BEHAVIOR that should be the determining factor.

Just think acorns and oak trees!!! Acorns and oak trees!!! He’s obcessed with calling an unborn baby an acorn!!

      • bob wire

In much the same way with your obsession calling a 1st trimester fetus a person. but you are right, acorns are trees, like rain is rivers, or clouds or snow or oceans or over 85% of the human body.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        bob,
Yup! you bet as there are still departments that describe a first trimester pregnant woman as with CHILD! Not fetus OR acorn!!!

  • bob wire

Hmm? All governments want and in-fact demands is dominion, largely depending on consent of the people, but your consent is not essential. Government can own you, everything you’ve got, take away your freedom simply by finding you guilty of failure to comply. That they can make it impossible for you to comply is not seen as a defense that can withstand the scrutiny of the courts.

I’ve been there, done that, got the tee shirt. And No ! Ringer, you are right, this what never part of the American Dream. To be held captive yet free to move about ~ if you can.

allow me to add, This general notion of “responsibility” is a catch all phrase. ~ To just speak of “responsibility” and the need for it is misleading. So you can narrow it and say “Personal Responsibility” but even then it not clear what you are attempting to address.

Personal Responsibility can be construed to mean many things. You can be mandated to be responsible for things that you have little or no control over. It’s an accepted fact that you can’t give things that you don’t have. You must possess them to give them.

We live in a world today that has made an art form out of differing guilt and responsibility. The world is coming at you to be responsible while it is refuses too.

I sold an old truck back in March of this year. Sold it cheap, to a man that need an old work truck with a strong heart. $850.00. ~ I signed and dated the title releasing it, documented the mileage in the space provided.

In three months time, I got a parking ticket in the mail. In 5 months time I’m getting letters from the NTTA (north texas transit authority), wanting #$9.50 from blowing passed a toll booth. ~ This NTTA was nasty, they wanted their money and late fees, and we went back and forth for several weeks. In the end, I had to track down this 350lbs of a concrete man and threaten to whip his a$$. I was not wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to do it and depended on him being a big old teddy bear like most huge men are.

Where was my responsibility? They are telling me I needed a copy of the bill of sale ~ but there no requirement for one. As the seller why should I need such a document when I released it with a signature and date of a legal state document.

Small stuff! but it gets much bigger and then there is the pile -on affect. ~ 10 small issues make for larger problems.

I’ve just been told, one of my major customers is going to start demand workman comp coverage by any and all vendors. ~ Oh that’s great! I employ subs, independents. ~ So now, I must hire them as employees and deduct from their pay what it required to work them. I can hire another office girl to keep up with all the bookkeeping that this will require.

It’s all about being responsible ! We must do what they say if we want to play and for that we will pay and pay and pay. ~ And when such a time that presents itself you might file a claim on this workman comp, the entanglement starts anew. It’s not uncommon to hire and outside attorney to get what they promised you as they took your money month after month, year after year.

I was coming north up HWY 77 from Port Isabel and approaching an immigration check point. It’s an “All Stop” situation. I had been at sea for 3 months and eager to get home to Fort Worth after dealing with all the devastation and destruction along the coastline of Louisiana in the wake of Katrina. We were at sea when it hit and rode it out and were some of the first responders to make it back in after the storm. I was very pooped and just about all the fight was drained from me.

I pull up to the DPS officer and stop. He says, pull over there. So I do and open my truck up for their inspect. The officer come over a writes me a ticket from an expired inspection sticker.

My fault! I should have inspected my truck before I got in it. ~ I should have stayed in Isabel until I could get it inspected and delayed my trip home a day or two. I had a “whole” 14 days to get back!

Is this what you mean, when you speak of personal responsibility?

Well, I wrote the Judgeship in the small Texas town he presided over Sirita Texas, Judge Mendosa. I was afforded no consideration. I was in violation and they wanted their money. $125.00 dollars. I didn’t pay them and today I am found in contempt and this story is not over but just getting started.

So let us qualify what we mean when we speak of person responsibilities because there are times I feel like I’m responsible for everything and everyone.

      • Song

bob w. You really have a way of over-complicating things. Sh*t happens to everybody. Sorry that it happens to you too, but I think you should be able to comprehend from all the posts on the board as well as the article what is meant by “self-responsibility” as a whole.

      • bob wire

Overly complicated? That might be true as I attempt to look at “all” the variables and don’t paint with such a wide brush that it’s unclear what I’m speaking of. ( if you can follow me) Nor do I get paint all over everyone and everything addressing a topic.

If you might look back, taking into consideration that I posted at 9:11 AM this morning and was not “privileged” to all posting after 9:11am. it just might better explain my posting as I addressed Mr. Ringers title thread post regarding, “responsibility”.

We all seem to want a perfect world , one without variables, where one size fits all, one word or one slogan serves all.

“America First” that was a dozy! after trillions down, 3000 sons and daughters bled out, 9000 injured, eyes gone, feet, legs, arms gone, meaningful employment drying up, house foreclosures on the rise. I believe John McCain and Karl were living in a vacuum.

Well, this is not going to happen, sorry. Our government doesn’t do well with “your” variables but most willing to contend with theirs “if” the price can be made right.

Life is complicated and made more so by “stupid”. The crazy part is, ignorance is truly blissful so the “stupid” were having a Grand old Party and feel little pain until Nov of 2008. And now , all I hear is pain and suffering! bout damn time I say.

      • http://?? Joe H.

        bobwire,
It’s quite simple, really. If you are not responsible for the inspection of YOUR vehicle then who is?? JeffH? Me? YOU!!! The same if you let your licence expire and are caught, YOU are ultimately RESPONSIBLE!!! you are starting to sound more like a liberal prog every day! They always have been against personal responsibility!!

      • bob wire

I understand Joe, you are right. I am responsible. And if I find myself compromised, I or you are fair game to extortion and predatory government with budgetary shortfalls. We simply submit a pound of flesh and move on.

Comply or else. So why not accept other matters of government in this same spirit? Why all the whining and moaning I hear here about government today?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        bob,
I’m not saying that the law is good or bad. I’m saying you knew of the law and chose to ignore it! now you want to come here and cry cause you got a fine! Our founders fought against tyranny and faced death, here you are crying about a little cash. Kinda puts it into prospective, doesn’t it?

      • bob wire

        Well Joe;

I just don’t do shake downs well, regardless who’s doing it. I consider “government contemptible” on all levels until it proves otherwise. The State of Texas is worse then the Fed since Perry took office.

People end up dead over a little cash everyday. But we are getting off topic, let us move on.

      • bob wire

perspective? they fought over a little cash Joe. The Stamp act was the claim. ~ but in truth the King wanted his payment in gold and not script.

So how is my perspective so different? I think maybe you are a conservative when it come to your money and a liberal when it come to mine. Which seem to be the mark of most self proclaimed conservatives.

It’s just a little cash for Christ sakes, whats the problem?

      • http://?? Joe H.

        No bobbie,
your money is just as important as mine, and as far as what the founders fought against, it wasn’t just money, it was also the kings ability to put a man into debtors prison or to death at his whim!! talk against the king or not pay his taxes and you very well go to prison for life or face hanging! don’t pay your little fine and you might spend what, ten days in a jail and get three hot meals a day? WOW bobbie, you fight so bravely!!

  • Ret

Thank you. I was a very late in life child brought up by parents who were married during the depression. One was first generation and the other was second generation. They walked in, jumped the hoops, worked hard, never took a dime of welfare and built a good life. I have been an ‘outcast’ for many years because these are my values, on the job and in my personal life. I was not spoiled, and was taught how to survive. It’s a shame the younger people don’t get it. The main thing I regret is selling my home with fruit trees, garden space and lots of equipment for canning. Condo living is easier, but not better. I would gladly go down for my principles. I had a mother, I don’t need a nanny taking away what’s left of my liberty.

    • http://Comcast James Wright

Your points are, well, right on point. Those of us who grew up with hard-working parents had great role models who kept us grounded in the American ideal. It is tragic what is happening today where there exists very little work ethic, respect for others and their property, and only feelings of entitlement. I often use the word sloth to describe what is going on around me, and I weep for America. I don’t see much of a future for future generations.

    • JeffH

Ret, my folks raised me to fend for myself, work hard and be responsible also…which I have been thankfull for every day.

Same here, my father was born in 1909 and worked like hell all his life. his first job was at 13 years old to help out at home as he was the second oldest of 17 kids! Took my grandfather two marriages to procreate that many, but they never went hungry. Dad was from northern GA.

I am glad to learn that someone else, besides me, believes that government should be as small and inoffensive as possible. It is past the time when we should fire the people who try to take away our rights. It is also time to fire the teachers who teach our children that respect from others no longer needs to be earned, but should be demanded. That is how we got into this mess. Ask yourself if you prefer to make your own choices, or do you want someone else to choose for you. One is the choice of liberty, the other is the choice of slavery.

  • Monte

Excellent summary of our present predicament. We are witnessing, before our very ideas, the disappearance of the America we knew, to be replaced by something wholly foreign and monstrous. Of all the ‘conservative’ groups I receive emails from, and I receive many, this is my favorite. Most are merely Republican shills. And ‘Republican’ and ‘conservative’ is not the same thing in the least. For the most part the Republican Party is dishonest. They pretend to be conservative for votes alone. The Democratic Party, once the voice of states-rights and limited central government, has come to represent the parasite class, the dregs of society. I love to read the history of our once great nation before Lincoln’s war. What those generations represented and stood for was things of real substance. Sad, they would not recognize today’s America and what it has become.

    • http://MSN.com Mary

The United States of America that our grandfathers defended in World War II is long gone forever. We should have stopped all immigration from majority Muslim nations after 9/11, we didn’t. I want to live in a country that actually advances the interests of its law-abiding citizens, instead of trying to advance at every opportunity those citizens who re-made formerly great cities like Detroit, Birmingham, and Cleveland into their image. Civilizations rise and fall. When the Europeans become super-minorities (under 10% of the population) then civilization will break down. USA can’t survive with less than 50% whites. I think Welfare, Section 8, WIC and every other assistance for people who can’t maintain life on their own should be eliminated and they we’ll see who’s still standing.

      • Dan

Nobody will be left standing, Mary. We”re too far gone for that. These people have been raised to expect it – it’s owed to them. They believe so deeply that the money you and I work for belongs to them, that they will take it if it isn’t given. And they’ll be cheered on by our hand wringing politicians.

      • 270 Win.

Dan, they may come down our street but they will not get it.

  • Ellen

A society can’t function when the majority of its people are not responsible. We’re at that point. We have the perpetual welfare dwellers who see free housing, food, utilities, and health care as entitlements. They are uneducated and incapable of providing for themselves and we enable this cycle to repeat itself. We have immigrants who’ve come here for a better life and jumped on the welfare cycle. They’ll never attain the American dream while being uneducated (45% of Hispanics drop out of high school). They drain our society. We have the irresponsible youth who aren’t being raised with morals and values and who don’t comprehend the concept of working hard to attain more.

    • Karolyn

And? Do you have any practical solutions to offer for any of these situations? Yes, as far as immigrants is concerned, we can close our borders; but how do we change a situation that has grown entrenched in our society? Where do we start? It is a monumental job.

      • TheRealBob

Where do we start? By eliminating economic parasitism by those such as SSI recipients and Americorps drones. The US must become a country where everyone has a right to work without interference from gangsters such as the unions and the a place where everyone must work to survive; eg, no parasitism of the productive by the unproductive.

      • ValDm

So now, anyone who draws SS is a parasite????? What do you do to sustain yourself? You seem to be here an awful lot. Do you still work?Do you have a neat little bottomless nest-egg? After you’ve paid into SS all these years do you intend to just leave it there & not take back what you’ve paid in? Pretty sure you didn’t mean parasite unless you want to lump yourself right in there with the rest of us. Please, in the future, engage your brain before you prove to all of us here that you don’t have one.

      • Dagney

How sure are you that YOU actually paid into SS? Actually it is shown on your paycheck as deducted from your pay. However, that is but an illusion. Your employer paid and has been paying it all these years. YOU don’t pay a dime. Same with health care. Your employer has been paying for it for you. The only part you pay is the co-pay or your portion after your deductible. If you are not responsible for paying the check each week, you are not the one paying it.

So, do we actually deserve pay-back of something that we never paid and was a scam from the beginning? Probably not. Time to rethink THAT one!

      • DaveH

        Val,
Bob was talking about Supplemental Security Income, drawn by certain people before the age of retirement, etc. See here:
        http://www.socialsecuritydisability.ws/social_security_disability_application.html

      • DaveH

        Dagney,
There are two portions of premiums that go to Social Security. The company pays about half, and the employee pays about half. And before you retort, I know that you are saying since the employee never actually touched his portion of the premium that he really isn’t paying it. I disagree, and in fact I maintain that even most of the Employer-paid portion is coming from the Employee because without that money being unwillingly allocated to the SS administration, the Company would have more disposable assets which very likely would have gone to higher salaries for the employees.
At any rate, Social Security is Unconstitutional and should be phased out, but only after the people who were forced into the system get their due receipts.
No private Insurance company would be able to get away with the mismanagement that the Government was allowed to get away with in the case of Social Security.

If there were no Social Security

      • DaveH

That last incongruous sentence was a tag-along which was meant to be deleted.

      • Old Henry

        ValDM:

You got my attention so I re-read the first part of Bob’s post. He referred to SSI, not SS. SSI is money paid out like welfare. It is yet another program that steals money from our SS fund.

      • JeffH

OH & DaveH, thank you…saved me the time to explain what SSI is.

      • independant thinker

Old Henry……….Here is a follow-up to a post of yours from yeaterday. Here are three companies that might have a made in the USA splitting maul. They are Garrett Wade, Duluth Trading, and Lehmans. I know one of them offers a line of wood cutting/splitting tools made in Sweeden (not US made but not Chi-Com either) I think it is Garrett Wade.

      • Harold Dean

He said SSI which even though it is taken from the Social Security funds is not Social Security. It stands for Supplemental Security Income and is a wealth redistribution scheme which has been in effect for quite some time to give some of your hard earned money to those who the social welfare workers deem to need extra social income.

      • Old Henry

        DaveH:

        Sounds like your keebord mis-fired…

You are correct about the SS payments. The one half that the employer “pays” is figured as part of your wage / salary. More FDR lies when he said the employer would pay one half and the employee would pay one half.

      • Old Henry

        IndependantThinker:

Thank you for the information. I will pass it along to my son, and look them up on the Internet to see if I can find a near-by dealer.

SSI is welfare for people who have never paid into FICA, dimwit.

      • Jim Turner

someone asked. And? Do you have any practical solutions to offer for any of these situations?

Our freedoms came from a people who had a personal relationship with God thru his Son Jesus Christ.

Even Jesus said make sure you buikld your house on a solid rock foundation and not on a sandy (weak) foundation.

We need to repent and ask God for forgiveness for our many, many sins. Ask for His mercy and His healing hand on our lives, families and nation.

I agree Jim Turner, the US.Constitution was drafted to be represented by a Moral & Just people.

      • http://?? Joe H.

And now we have crooks and bandits maintaining it!!! no wonder it isn’t working!!!

      • Song

Absolutely…There is a BIG difference between SS and SSI. Anyone under the age of 21 diagnosed with anything from ADHD to cerebral palsey can draw SSI if they meet the income guidelines. I work with entire families of 4-7 that are all on SSI! (along with free health care!) All it does is enable them and make them think the whole d*mn world owes them a living. Not only that, families with special needs children receive a whopper of a tax credit every year. Between $3k-$10k per year and most don’t even pay taxes! I’d call that a little bit of a problem…

      • http://?? Joe H.

Song, you are as full of it as a thanksgiving turkey!!! I have a special needs child and have never been able to take anything but the standard dependant deduction for him! As far as I know, the only ones that can take an extra deduction for a special needs child is if they are BLIND!!

      • djdrew103

SSI recipients are parasites? I hope to hell that you, you yourself, I pray to God that he strikes you with a debilitating disease that shrivels your bowels up, shrinks your coffers of saved resources, strikes you with poverty, starves your insurances to where they reject you (Oh that’s right…Obama’s health care protects you from that moron!) and brings you to your knees so that you can then tell us that SSI is a parasite!

      • djdrew103

To the rest of you dimwits, just because welfare programs are abused, doesn’t mean you shelve the whole system. That’s the mindset of people that have no minds, and under SSI you could probably draw a check for being subjects of regressed capabilities!

SSI serves a great need for people who fall short of other systems that are set to protect and provide common Americans like you and me. It is NOT a program designed to give money to unworthy recipients like some morons here suggest. Their lack of intelligent input shows their truer colors.

Take for example the common worker, who succumbs to an illness and has a long drawn out health battle. They are removed from the workforce due to this battle. Keep in mind, this could be any one of you loudmouthed idiots who wish to think themselves so intelligent as to spread false rumors and lies about this program. All your financial resources are long gone and you have no viable means of support.

You have worked hard all your life, paid in your taxes, built what you thought was a strong wall of protective lifestyle around yourself and your family.

Yet when you have to finally go to government systems to sustain your existence, you find out that since you haven’t worked in so many “applicable credit criteria” periods to qualify for full support through SSD (disability) you now only qualify for SSI since you missed the one in 20 credit periods to qualify. You now have the blessing of sustaining a life on $674 a month, with meager food benefits and resulting in Medicaid for your health care to stay alive.

Morons out here claim it an unnecessary, and parasitical program? Do your kids actually look up to you? What a joke, what fools.

      • Sarah

I agree with you Bob. I know two people who have been sucking the system dry. Even selling the pills they were prescribed. But the Drs. caught on and now do a blood test to make sure the person has the right amount of pills in their system.. They can’t sell them anymore! But it’s people like this that give everyone a bad name. Growing up my neighbor next door who was born crippled, with one let shorter than the other, his hip twisted inward while his knee cap and foot twisted outward, went to haul everyday and hauled lobster traps for a living. He never let his handicap interfer with “him” supporting and raising his two children! He is now in his 70′s and in a wheelchair. He now draws on the SS that he worked very hard for and paid into, and deserves every cent.

      • Polski

The real right to work states originally were the union states. Everything the workers got was because the unions got them for the workers. What TheRealBob posted is a bunch of BS.

      • Jyrine

        And you are a defeatist!

      • big wyo

You start by admitting the problem and attacking it, not what should we do if there is really a problem. The tipping point is past, help or get the hell out the way Karolyn.

      • DaveH

Yes, I have a practical solution, Karolyn. We end the Department of Energy, the Education Department, the FCC, the EPA, and many other Unconstitutional Departments in the Federal Government. We can end the Federal Reserve. Then we phase out Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac over a 5-year period. We bring back our troops stationed in countries around the world and use some of them to patrol our borders. And then phase out a large portion of the defense budget (which more appropriately should be called the Aggression Budget).
We can end Corporate Income Taxes and Crony Capitalism. Let the Free Market loose. We give the newly furloughed government employees and Welfare recipients one year of salary, and let them know that’s it, and there will be no extensions when that year runs out. So they’d best hustle, start their own businesses or take whatever jobs they can to prepare for the end of their free ride.
We start the Federal Government on asset sales of a large portion of the real estate holdings and other assets they control.
We get on local Governments to end most of their ridiculous competition-stifling licensing programs. Those people who crave using licensed businesses could still do so, only the licenses wouldn’t be required by law.
We first replace the Income Tax system with a Flat Rate Income Tax, and then over a ten-year period we move towards a Flat Tax — every adult pays the same. Those who can’t pay due to unforeseen hardship will fill out the paperwork explaining their plight. The rest of us will cut the check and get on with our lives.
We pass a Constitutional Amendment that allows the States to set the amount of the Federal Budget every four years. And we outlaw deficit spending by the Federal Government. If there is a genuine emergency, the States could vote to allow Temporary borrowing to fund the Federal Government.
And many more things could be done, all involving getting Government out of our lives except to punish force and fraud committed against the citizens.
We could turn this country back into the robust economic powerhouse that it once was before Lincoln subverted the Constitution and pursued the same kind of overpowering Mercantilistic Central Government that caused the States to fight a revolution against the British just 80 years earlier.

Sounds like a good start there Dave. Now where do we get the Moral & Just Citizenry from to enforce this redemption?

      • DaveH

The citizenry have been very effectively propagandized to believe we need all that Government.
Our #1 Priority is to stop the brainwashing of our children by the Public Schools by demanding educational choice for parents (not just school choice). See here:

        DaveH,

Amen… to School Choice… I wish the states had school vouchers where our school taxes would go to the school of our choice… that would get schools hopping and Straighten them out curriculum wise.

Then we would need to tackle the Textbook companies who are making a MINT selling new text books to burden the school districts to continuously purchase new ones… often ones that are not as good and have revisionist history or left out the study of the types of governments and how they work.

You have school choice now. If you want to send a child to private school that is your choice. tax payer money should not be used to subsidize this, however.

      • http://runanddietired@sbcglobal.net Ron

        Almost perfect.
        I would add.
In order to vote, you must be a taxpayer.
A taxpayer that payed more than he/she received from any
        government handout.
The voter must be a citizen.
The voter must be alive when voting.
        The voter has one vote.

      • Robert Smith

DaveH says: “We end the Department of Energy, the Education Department, the FCC, the EPA,…”

Yup, and we turn management of nuclear reactors completely over to private industry. That’s a good one, Dave.

With the Education Department the latest is “No Child Left Behind” from Bush. That’s a good one, Dave.

The FCC… We need more ENGINEERS on the FCC, not lawyers. With engineers figuring things out things would be much better.

The EPA… Chewing the air is good for your jaw, isn’t it Dave?

        Rob

      • DaveH

Obviously, Robert, you don’t know the difference between regulations and laws. Why should that surprise me?
Get some education, Robert, then we can talk:

Sorry, Robert, my impatience is showing. I’m just not very good at suffering fools.

The obvious start is limiting welfare for Americans and eliminating it for immigrants. Why are American taxpayers paying to provide for immigrants? If they are coming here for the American Dream, they need to work for it like the rest of us do. As far as limiting it for Americans, limit it to 1 child per mother and require the mother to name the father on the birth certificate if she plans to collect welfare. Then, require all fathers to be partially financially responsible for all babies they create. Don’t pay welfare to girls under 18 having babies; make thier parents responsible. We would see an enormous change in parenting if mom thought she’d be responsible for her child’s baby until her child turned 18. We would see a drastic reduction in baby daddies since these men would have to take responsibility for their actions/babies. We would see women have 1 child instead of 6. We may see a return to marriage in the Black community. They don’t marry now because mom can collect more welfare money if she is unmarried. Everything about our welfare program encourages illegitimacy. The #1 indicator of success/failure in school is growing up in poverty. So, all these kids are set up for failure from the beginning because they have irresponsible parents. We can help them all by changing welfare.

      • http://www,pappymart.com John Hanna

I agree but it may be even worse than raising children for welfare checks. I have heard rumors that late term abortion is legal because young mothers are encouraged to carry a child as long as they can for welfare and there is a lot of it for pregnant mothers.
But actually having the baby would be a burden.

      • Robert Smith

That’s a diaper load. In America only 1.4% at or after 21 weeks. That isn’t much and it is most often for a medical reason to save the woman. It is also most often of a WANTED fetus.

        Robert,
funny how you ignored the photo right below your stats of the “fetus”!! At 21 weeks the BABY was able to grasp the Dr.s finger!! Pretty good for an acorn, huh??

      • Jibbs

I think that no welfare for moms under 21 would be better, but limited to one child.

      • Old Henry

And Jibbs, the mother and father must be sterilized.

      • Robert Smith

        Welcome to China.

        Rob

      • Old Henry

Well Robert, you are more than welcome to send every penny you have to the Feds so they can hand it out to the welfare class who think YOU should support them and as many kids as THEY feel they should have.

As for me, I am fed up with it.

      • Don

Karolyn, first we need to clean out Wash. and rid our country of illegals, and start educating our children, if you can’t see that then you are one of the children that needs to be educated !!

      The American Dream?
It is individualism that breeds greatness in America. Self-reliance and survivability in one’s own life structure. Money matters only in the process of accomplishment of one’s own goals as with any other collectable commodity such as love of God, Country, Family, and self. Call it patriotism if you wish.
Whatever event happens in the life of one who wishes to live this dream they wish to live it according to their patriotic desires and not be commanded to do or not do otherwise.
As a child growing up in a small Idaho railroad and farming town in Idaho during the Roosevelt Depresion years I learned two very valuable lessons.
One was of service; That of helping the down and out in our community and those travelling thru needing a bit of help. (called hoboes in those days). They would come to my parents’ home and not ask for a handout but for some work they might do in exchange for their needs. Money was never asked for but food or clothing or possibly a quilt or blanket. Our home apparently was marked by some symbol or word of mouth. Anyway none were ever turned away. As the depression wore on our home became quite well kept as was the small farm that we had by those who stopped by.
It reached the point where Dad found it necessary to bring jobs home for these travellers to do. The best job was gathering wood from the neighboring forest and supplying the ax and then distribute the fire wood to those not capable of supplying their own winter wood.
At times it apparently was strain on Mom’s food supply so she sent me and my small wagon to the local government food store for some commodities. The clerk knew what we doing and so loaded up the wagon to virtual capacity. It was more than a small chore to pull that wagon home. When I got there Granddad was just coming home from work and told me in no uncertain terms to return the goods. I complained but was told I had it to do. Just as I was leaving Dad showed up with a bushel of home grown apples and put it on top of the load. From that day to this I encourage those that need encouraging to refrain from freeloading. It is more difficult than being subject to the dole and much more difficult to live the American Dream

      • http://www,pappymart.com John Hanna

Yep, sounds good. People don’t seem to understand that all government is an EXPENSE of production. It can only be sustained as a percentage and must decrease with productivity (losses caused by the NWO fed probably). Further, it is a big as the taxpayers say it should be and if you get a government check then you are a tax collector and not a tax payer.
People do pay SS and as a business I paid for myself and others yet now in retirement I get maybe one twentieth of what a retired judge gets. Who worked harder? Who is the drain on the budget? Almost one third of workers are government with their expenses hidden in budgets other than SS.
Now that I am on it, minimally, I think SS is great and I still work but I volunteer at things that need to be fixed.
But Jerry, thanks for detailing it all out.

Personal responsibility is being destroyed in our schools. How does one learn responsibility when good behavior, and bad behavior net the same results. A child can’t receive a “gold star” any more, because it might hurt the self-esteem of the others. All children are “special”.

You learn responsibility from effort, and it’s rewards, and you learn from lack of effort, and it’s consequences. Remove the reward, remove the consequence, you remove incentive, you remove pride, and the good that comes from self-accomplishment.

To a parent, their child is truly special, but without challenges to face, and overcome, how can they achieve anything beyond average?

American exceptionalism? Where does that phrase come from, and who uses it most? Are they truly exceptional, or are they more of those who think every child is special? Certainly, the true spirit that made our country, sprang from exceptional people. The Henry Fords, Thomas Edisons, etc, were exceptional. Not just the hope for a better life for ourselves, and our children, but having a system of self-government that not only allows, but encourages personal achievement, is exceptional.

No, just as treating all our children as complete equals, robs from them the chance to be exceptional, saying we are exceptional doesn’t make it so. I believe in American exceptionalism, but I don’t see much coming out of our universities, and I damn sure haven’t seen much of it coming out of Washington. Oh, I hear Rick Santorum talk about it, but his vision of it seems to be the same as what Julius Caeser would have call Roman exceptionalism.

Greatness comes from effort, not ego. Pride comes from achievement. We teach ego. We reward ego with passing grades, with free lunch, with unlimited welfare, with affirmative action, and on, and on. Whatever happened to the old saying, “THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH”?

Business should succeed, or fail on it’s own merit. Government should stay out of it, and markets will find their equilibrium. Just as with children, rewarding bad behavior breeds bad behavior, feeding the cycle.

      I’ve ranted long enough.

      • mrcave

        I forgot something.

What happens when the real world comes crashing in on people who have been told, all of their lives, that they are special, when they realize that they are just a face in the crowd?

Look at the riots across Europe, because of austerity measures. The nanny state no longer treats them so special, senseless violence.

I believe it’s the same thing we see in shootings like Columbine. Troubled kids, told all along that they too are special, but never really given a second look, can’t cope with being just another face in the crowd. They want to be noticed, they want to be talked about, and remembered. Maybe they resent kids that have more success in sports, or grades, with the opposite sex. Maybe they resent wealthy kids. Why don’t they have all of the things some others have, if they too, are special.

I’m not a mental health expert, and I know kids can, and do treat other kids horribly, but there has got to be more to it than that. Sure, a mentally disturbed person can commit heinous crimes, but what contributed to their mental state?

A lack of self esteem is what the new age prophets want to avoid, yet it is exactly what they breed. Thin skin, and huge ego. The false pride that cometh before a fall, that of the seven deadly sins.

I firmly believe self worth developed through challenge could save such youths. Maybe not in all cases, who can say for sure?

The nanny state is bad in our schools, it’s bad for the federal government. It is a breeding ground for false pride, contempt and jealousy, which can only lead to no good.

      • Ellen

Mrcave, You have summed up our childrens’ situation very well. I have 2 kids in college and have seen this going on for years. Every body gets a trophy, not just the winner. My kids went to school with upper middle class kids whose parents always told them they were better than everyone else. All the parents were certain their kids were going to go to the Univ. of Virginia because they thought their kids were smart and special. Reality checks like the PSAT scores throughout high school didn’t stop them from thinking their kids were the smartest. Even when they took the SAT and didn’t score well, the parents had an excuse. And these parents are college educated successful people. When reality doesn’t match expectations, people choose to ignore reality.

This drop out info is a bit difficult to read and I’m certain it is not correct. For example, it looks as if the rate for blacks in 2008 was 4.9% and in 2009 it was 5.2%. Are your decimal points in the wrong place because the high school drop out rate is around 49% annually for blacks? Maybe the numbers should have been 49% and 52%, respectively. Their college drop out rates are even higher. For example, at the historically black colleges, the drop out rate is about 63%. The high school drop out rate for hispanics is around 45%.

        Ellen,
        No easy answers.
California’s high drop-out rates of Latino and black students are not surprising — it … whats the reason for the drop out rates for hispanics??
