Men Want Work Flexibility More Than Women

ATLANTA, Sept. 4 (UPI) — More working men than working women are willing to give up part of their salary in exchange for more flexibility at work, a U.S. survey indicates.
The Mom Corps survey, a national flexible staffing firm, conducted by Harris Interactive, indicates 12 percent of working men versus 6 percent of working women say they would be willing to give up give up more than 10 percent of their salary to receive more flexibility at work.
The survey also indicates 42 percent are willing to give up some percentage of their salary for more flexibility at work, while 6 percent are willing to relinquish salary for flexibility.
Those ages 18-34 are three times more likely to give up more than 10 percent of their salary — 15 percent among 18-34-year-old workers vs. 5 percent among working adults ages 35 and older.
“The fact that employees of all ages are willing to give up any percentage of their salary in exchange for more flexibility over their work schedule is significant, especially given the current economic climate and record unemployment rates,” Allison O’Kelly, founder and chief executive of Mom Corps, says in a statement.
Only half of all working parents say they preferred to work a traditional “9-to-5″ workday, while 62 percent say flexibility is one of the most important factors they consider when looking for a new job.
The survey of 1,071 working adults — 345 are working parents — was conducted July 27 to 29.
