Target's Canada Expansion Creating Jobs
August 30, 2011 by UPI - United Press International, Inc.
TORONTO, Aug. 30 (UPI) — U.S. retailing giant Target launched an online search for thousands of Canadian employees for its launch of 135 new stores in 19 months.
Target Canada, with headquarters west of Toronto in Mississauga, opened the http://www.target.ca/careers Web site Monday, featuring openings for mostly senior positions such as human-resource managers and business analysts.
However, the company said there would be “tens of thousands” of positions available eventually because of the need for 150-200 employees per store, the Toronto Star said.
The company is second only to Walmart for U.S. retail sales.
Bryan Berg, Target Canada’s senior vice president of stores, told the Star about 220 Zellers department stores are being purchased for $1.82 billion, although not all will be rebranded to Target. Some have been sold to Walmart Canada, he said.
About 30,000 Canadians already have Target credit cards, the report said.
