Bloomberg Thumbs Nose At Rescue Workers, Clergy; Champions Mosque

Planning for a ceremony being held in New York City to remember the tragic events of 9/11 has been marred in recent weeks by reports of political jockeying for roles in the event and the failure of New York officials to allow first responders to attend, although they reportedly will be permitted to gather in a nearby park. Fox News now reports that the city’s Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, a fierce proponent of the mosque project near Ground Zero, has denied clergy members any right to involvement in the ceremonies.

Furious religious leaders throughout the country have called for the Mayor to reverse his decision. Many religious leaders believe Bloomberg, who claims a love for diversity in New York, has been unfairly partial to those of the Muslim faith as the Ground Zero mosque project moves closer to reality.

Hank Sheinkopf, a Democratic strategist and former Bloomberg employee, said of the Mayor in a recent Associated Press article regarding the mosque: “He believes in diversity and the greatness of New York is in the diversity of its people. He’s consistent. He doesn’t owe anything to anyone, and my hunch is that he’s not out of line with where most people in the city are on this issue.”

Bloomberg recently made fervent public statements about the importance of religious freedom in the United States regarding the mosque project.

“Democracy is stronger than this,” he said. “You know the ability to practice your religion was one of the real reasons America was founded. And for us to just say no is just, I think, not appropriate is a nice way to phrase it.”

Apparently, Rudy Washington, a Deputy Mayor in former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani’s Administration, feels the same about excluding religious leaders at the anniversary ceremony. Washington said: “This is America, and to have a memorial service where there’s no prayer, this appears to be insanity to me.”

As it stands, the 9/11 ceremony is set to include President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush as well as a handful of other political elite who will read selected poems and speeches.

    I hope the people in the audience and the first responders at the park and all True American Patriots all over the country will start praying out loud when old baggy bloomers and obumma the muslim come out to do there speeches. There words and speeches are not important for there words are from the devil and lies. Only the words of God that are spoken by his children will win. These people that don’t wish just a simple prayer to those that lost there life in this unjust tragedy will pay the price in hell. Lets all pray out loud and make sure they here us not only that day beu every day going forward.

    Bloomberg acts as though he’s NYC’s #1 pc agent. He’s rich, and his politics are shaky. Before anyone coughs up the idea that he’s a ‘Republican,’ no, he’s not. He’s an extreme liberal dressed up like a ‘Republican.’
    The way he’s going about this Ground Zero fiasco, you’d think his only concern is in pleasing those who don’t deserve to be pleased. When it comes to those who lost family or friends, they no longer matter. I’m really amazed that no one in NYC hasn’t come up with some new nicknames for Bloomie. I’ve got some, but I’ll wait for the media types and their disillusioned followers to have first crack at him.

    Wonder where Bloomberg left his brains and/or his courage. There’s such a thing as a nondenominational service. This is America. We tolerate all religions and if others religions have problems with that they can pick up their God and go home. If Bloomberg has trouble with that he’s not very bright. If Atheists have trouble with it they can stay home. I’m tired of religion being attacked, especially Christianity. If Bloomberg could get away with just having an Imam there I’m sure he’d go along with that the way he bent over for having the Mosque next door.

    9/11 is not a religious ceremony. It’s to honor those who died at the hands of terrorists. By grandstanding the Christian faith at this events is trying to make this a crusade against Muslims. The Crusades ended about 1000 years ago so this ceremony shouldn’t be about one religion trumping up themselves over another religion. That is what the hijackers attempted to do in trying to best their religion over others. Christians,Jews,Muslims and atheists died on 9/11 so should all be included in this ceremony or should all be excluded? Do you want to hear the atheists speak at this ceremony or the Muslims? You would condemn that also even though their deaths are important to their loved ones. Should our government allow only one religion to speak which would make us a theocracy. Bloomberg is saying that no religious figure shall speak (Muslim,Christian,Jew)yet they are certainly welcome to attend. No one will stop anyone of any faith from praying for the victims and all should be respected. Those 1st responders from districts outside of NYC are welcome to come but there simply isn’t enough room at the events for all of them. Many thousands or ordinary folks will also be turned away from the ceremonial grounds because of lack of room. Maybe they will set up large screens in Central Park for the overflow to appease everyone.Be sure to bring your Faith but don’t flaunt it.

      As I understand it the original memorial service in NY was an interfaith service with all three abrahamic religions represented and perhaps others. There is no reason this cannot be done this time as well. There should also be a contingent from the first responders at the service.

    This is an aabsolute travesty. Regardless of what faith the responders practice, New York would be an awful place without them. And the clergy (of all faiths Bob Smith) helped many thousands of people find their way after this ordeal. To exclude these people now is an insult to their courage and professionalism, things bloomberg needs to brush up on. How he ever got elected, beyond having billions of inherited money to spend, is beyond me. Of course, this is the same New York who voted in favor of same-sex marriage. I can’t wait to see the offspring of these unions..

By not allowing the first responders access (essentially telling them “get to the back of the bus”) and denying any kind of Christian involvement sends a very dangerous message. My two sons were in the Marine Corps at that time, and I was more concerned about reaching them on the west coast. And I did NOT ‘pound my chest’…hell, I could not tell exactly WTF was going on. And I do remember crying a lot, and calling my husband also.

      One big problem with elections as I stated yesterday on a different topic is that people don’t really take the time to find out enough about the people they’re voting for. Case In Point: It wasn’t until five years ago I actually started looking up the cases on judges that were going to be on the ballot. The courthouse and law library are an excellent source and last year a lot of information was given on the internet. Same with local school councils. Even with all the information in the world Obama was still elected. I really don’t think people know what to vote for.

    It would be great if the people who show up were spontainious in entering “leader free” prayers and gospel singing to show respect for those who were killed, those who resist a supressive government (remember the part of the Constitution which says freedom of religon) (officials who illegally interfear in religon, etc.).AND acknowledge that America was, is, and will always be, a Christian nation, under GOD.

        Republican Party (2001–2007)(2 terms as Mayor of NYC).
        Independent (2007–present).
        Bloomberg successfully campaigned for an amendment to New York City’s term-limits law, in order to allow him to run for a third term in 2009. The politicians will do anything keep their power.

        Once again we have the proverbial statement thrown out there of “Separation of church and state” of which last time I read the constitution that phrase does not exist.

      This is another example of Up is Down and Down is Up. Sometimes I think the Lefts irrationality is made public policy to cause “Commen Sense” Americans to stroke out. The 10 year anniversary is about over 3,000 dead Americans, not about Mayor Bloomberg or Mosques. Bloomberg made this event about himself and has showed poor leadership. I don’t remember the last memorial service I attended that didn’t include some kind of religious spiritual prayer or sentiment in remembrance of the loss of some families loved one.
      If Bloomberg is so concerned with avoiding religion, then he should not be endorsing ceremonies which endorse the religious views of Atheists an organized religion of non-belief. I guess people of faith will have to organize their own memorial and let Bloomberg hold a meaningless event. I just wonder how President Bush will approach such an event with such a public snub to all peoples of faith.

      Happens all the time now. Like religious discrimination is part of the Constitution..If something is so controversial only one religion can be there, we have a real problem with why the rest are forbidden. Is this honoring those who murdered so many in cold blood and blazing gases?

      If so, should not we have separate big memorials for each individual faith, and one for non-believers, in every faith. Isn’t fair fair.

      Or is fair only for the blatant criminals, and law abiding citizens are to be penalized?

      Let’s play fair, and have memorial services for baptists only, and confucious followers only, and so on covering every religion in the air and on the ground, with all other faiths denied access to the area. Be sure no faith, however small, is denied a building permit for their own building, and the time in peace and solitude to mourn, just like the Islaamics.
