BOSTON, Aug. 25 (UPI) — A top campaign adviser to U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., has refused to apologize for his CrazyKhazei Twitter feed aimed at a potential Democratic opponent.
Eric Fehrnstrom acknowledged in an e-mail Wednesday he is the person who sent out the tweets mocking Alan Khazei, The Boston Globe reported. He was outed Tuesday when he mistakenly sent a CrazyKhazei tweet from his own account.
“It was my Twitter account,” Fehrnstrom said. “Sometimes we take our politics too seriously, and this was my way of lightening things up. As they say in politics, if you can’t stand the tweet, get out of the kitchen.”
Khazei, 50, is the founder of Be the Change Inc., a group based in Boston that tries to build national coalitions to get legislation on social issues.
“Voters are cynical about the political process because politicians in Washington have spent more time on name-calling and tearing each other down than they’ve spent working together to move the country forward,” Emily Cherniack, Khazei’s chief of staff, said.
