RICHMOND, Texas, Aug. 25 (UPI) — A former Marine charged in Oklahoma with the rape of a young girl was arrested Thursday in Texas, authorities said.
Charles Alan Dyer, 31, told police he had been living along the banks of the Brazos River in Fort Bend County near Houston, the Houston Chronicle reported. Fort Bend Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremy Goodrich, who made the arrest, said Dyer told him he had not eaten for several days and decided to visit the Sonic restaurant because he was thirsty.
“He said he was just done,” Goodrich said.
Police got a call shortly after 8 a.m. from a resident who reported seeing a man matching Dyer’s description in the Pecan Grove neighborhood. Goodrich said Dyer did not resist arrest but did give a false name before admitting his identity.
He was carrying $1,000 in cash.
Dyer became a fugitive when he failed to appear at a court hearing in Stephens County in Oklahoma, The Oklahoman reported.
He was being held in Fort Bend County pending extradition proceedings.
