Faithful Dog Guards SEAL’S Coffin

ROCKFORD, Iowa, Aug. 25 (UPI) — A Labrador retriever belonging to a U.S. Navy SEAL remained at his side during his funeral in Rockford, Iowa, guarding his coffin, relatives say.
A cousin, Lisa Pembleton, took a picture of the dog, Hawkeye, during the service Friday for Petty Officer Jon Tumilson. He was one of the SEALS killed last month in Afghanistan when insurgents shot down a Chinook helicopter.
“It took several attempts since every time I wasn’t crying and could focus on taking it, there was a SEAL at the microphone and I didn’t want to take a picture with them for security and respect reasons,” Pembleton told ABC News. “Our family is devastated to say the least.”
Hawkeye now has a home with one of Tumilson’s friends.
Tumilson had been in the Navy for 16 years. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
