JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 24 (UPI) — Authorities in Florida said a suspicious package that led Jacksonville City Hall to be shut down for more than 3 hours was filled with light bulbs.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said workers in the City Hall mailroom reported the package at about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday after a scan showed it contained wires and the area surrounding the building was shut down and evacuated until 1 p.m., The (Jacksonville) Florida Times-Union reported Wednesday.
Investigators said the package was placed in a containment unit and a more accurate scan revealed the box contained only LED light bulbs.
“You’ve got to be careful,” Mayor Alvin Brown said. “Given the times we live in, safety and security is the No. 1 thing we want to do.”
“I don’t think you can be overly cautious,” he said. “I don’t think you can put a price on life.”
