Mars Rover Snaps New Crater Photos

PASADENA, Calif., Aug. 22 (UPI) — NASA says its Mars rover Opportunity has captured new vistas of the Endeavour crater from its perch on the crater’s rim, using its panoramic camera.
The rover arrived at the 13-mile-diameter Endeavour crater Aug. 9, after a journey of almost three years, a release from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., said.
NASA released an image taken looking across the crater Aug. 14 on the rover’s s 2,686th Martian day of work.
Opportunity will examine material ejected from a small nearby crater named Odyssey with tools on its robotic arm, NASA said.
Opportunity and its sister rover Spirit arrived on the red planet in April 2004 and provided mission data years after the end of their intended three-month prime missions.
Communication with Spirit was lost in March 2010.
