Segway Owner Leaves $600 Million To Wife

LEEDS, England, Aug. 20 (UPI) — The late owner of Segway scooters left more than $600 million to his wife and family, attorneys for his estate in the United Kingdom said.
Jimi Heselden, 62, died when he accidentally drove one of the computerized two-wheeled people movers over a cliff and into the River Wharfe last year, the BBC reported.
“It can be confirmed that Jimi left an estate of 343,172,206 pounds which he has bequeathed to his widow Julie and other family members,” a statement released on behalf of the trustees of Heselden’s estate said.
Heselden was one of the 400 richest people in the United Kingdom, the report said.
Heselden founded Hesco Bastion in the United Kingdom and he acquired the Segway operation in December 2009.
An inquest found Heselden probably went over the edge of the cliff and into the river some 30 feet below when he moved to the side to let a dog-walker pass.
Heselden dropped out of school when he was 15. He made his fortune with Leeds-based Hesco Bastion, which manufactures a replacement for sandbags used to protect soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The former miner gave millions of dollars to charities associated with Leeds and the military. The Leeds Community Foundation said he had donated some $40 million to causes in Leeds since 2008.
