German To Pay Briton An Old Golf Debt In Beer

PORTISHEAD, England, Aug. 22 (UPI) — A German man said he is planning an autumn trip to Britain to make good on a 5-year-old promise to buy a beer for a man who bested him at golf.

Sebastian Steinzen said he lost a bet to the man, who he knew only as Pat, while playing golf on the Spanish island of Majorica in 2005 but was unable to purchase a pint of beer for the man before the end of his vacation, The Daily Telegraph reported Monday.

Steinzen said he traveled to Portishead, England, last month to try to track down his old golf partner, but locals were unable to identify Pat from a picture he showed around.

However, Steinzen spoke to The Daily Telegraph about his quest before leaving England and the story caught the attention of the man, Patrick Burns, 73.

Steinzen said he is now planning to meet with Burns at a British pub next month to settle his debt.
