Couple Lose Legal Bid To Get Dog Back

OFFERTON, England, Aug. 22 (UPI) — A British judge tossed a lawsuit brought by couple who gave away their dachshund then sued for the canine’s return when the new owner refused to give it back.
Gary Rowlinson, 55, of Offerton, England, told the Stockport county court hearing he was the legal owner of the dog, Bailey, but his wife, Moira, 56, made the decision to give the canine to Steven Spencer after it bit their 2-year-old granddaughter, The Daily Mirror reported Monday.
“My wife had been threatened with never seeing her grandchildren again if we kept the dog so you can understand why she did it,” Rowlinson said.
However, District Judge Ian Lettall tossed out the case, saying there was no evidence Moira Rowlinson had acted without the consent of her husband, who was present when Bailey was given away.
Rowlinson was ordered to pay $2,431 in court costs.
