Bus Accident Kills 23 In Kenya

MBOONI, Kenya, Aug. 21 (UPI) — A minibus that plunged into the Uwaani River in Kenya left 23 people dead and 34 injure, police say.
The bus drive reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the river Saturday night, The Sunday Nation in Nairobi reported.
Passenger Zainab Mzee said the minibus was carrying more than 50 people and hit a rock before it swerved and rolled.
The 23 found dead were killed instantly. Some of the injured were taken to a hospital.
The bus was bringing people home after a dowery ceremony.
One of the surviving passengers said the driver was speeding before the accident.
President Mwai Kibaki sent a letter of condolences to the families, friends and relatives of those who died.
“At this time when you mourn the death of your loved ones, our prayers and thoughts are with you. May the almighty God give you strength during this very trying time,” wrote Kibaki.
