Number Of Obama Fundraisers Outpaces Bush, Clinton

President Barack Obama has wasted little time in fundraising, despite claiming that “it’s not election season yet” at a town hall in Cannon Falls, Minn. Brendan Doherty, an assistant professor of political science at the U.S. Naval Academy and part-time researcher at the non-partisan White House Transition Project, recently looked at fundraising numbers for Obama and the five Presidents that preceded him, and found that the 44th President has held far more fundraisers.

“Obama’s 127 fundraisers — for himself, Democratic Party committees or Democratic candidates — is twice the number Ronald Reagan had held (63) by this time in his presidency and three times Jimmy Carter’s total (44),” read an article in USA Today. “The president coming closest to Obama’s modern-day record: George H.W. Bush, who had held 90 by now, followed by his son George W. Bush (88) and Bill Clinton (76).”

The article notes that Obama’s presence at a fundraiser for a Democratic candidate is not always a marker of that candidate’s sure success: “Among the candidates he raised money for were Creigh Deeds, who lost his race for governor of Virginia in 2009; Jon Corzine, who lost his race for governor of New Jersey the same year; Ted Strickland, who lost his 2010 gubernatorial re-election race; and Alexi Giannoulias, who lost the 2010 Senate race in Obama’s home state of Illinois.”

“The statistics are likely to serve as another reference for Republicans who have tried to label Obama the ‘campaigner-in-chief’ instead of a president focused on healing the economy,” read a POLITICO article on Doherty’s findings.

    sc;Governments are bought everyday of the week by lobbiests and if you think that if you voted someone in office they are going to do what you want or think they should , you’re an idiot.I would not say it was good government just government for the highest bidder.

    And the race is on to use chunks of that laundered money to BUY the next election. Just once I’dlike to see states full of angry LEGAL voters who are sick and tired of elections that “require” tons of money. What amazes me is the fact that our odds of getting a good candidate (city, county, state or federal) are extremely close to zero.
    The only people who believe that we can buy good government are mentally dead. It would probably be a good idea to require voters to pass a reading test (and a urinalysis).
    Money and politics do NOT mix. It matters not what our “leaders” tell us, America. You can’t buy good government. When you think about all the misery that gets shoveled our way via elections, it would be poetic justice if candidates aged so fast that they wouldn’t live long enough to collect any retirement. Fair is fair.

    Claire; So far as I can see Ron Paul is their only hope but he isn’t getting any backing from the Republicans or the news media.The rest of the contenders seem as though they fell off the clown wagon when it came to town.They have handlers telling them to make outlandish statements to get attention or they may really be lacking a little upstairs.Makes for what they call good TV but that will not get them votes in the end.As far as another Democrat running I don’t believe so at this time.Many Democrats are getting fed up with Obama caving in to the opposition so we may be in for a surprise.

      jopa–I agree with your comments. Obama has caved in, and I believe it is because he is half-black and he wants to “get along.” He is learning the hard way. The Republicans will never agree with him on any issue, this began on day one. Obama just can’t seem to realize that. He does not appear to be a stong-willed man. Too much in self-control maybe, I don’t know. I know this–this administration has proved to be a huge disappoinment to me. None of the elected politicians are concentrating on the issues at hand. They are too interested in the next election and who is going to “win.” Geez, to me, they are all losers. I am really disgusted with the lot.

        PT Barnum sure knew what he was talking about. C, I needed a good laugh, and I’m still laughing. Do you think your White House Savior is being picked on and is the ‘victim’ of a political conspiracy? How can you imply that he doesn’t pack the gear? Anybody who comes from Chicago and atended Haaavid is someone who already has a head start on raising the dead and walking on water. If you ask real nice, he might tell you that he’s in constant contact with FDR, Woodie Wilson, Stalin and Mao.
        No doubt about it, he’s got the right stuff. Oooooweeeee, C! Old PT sure knew people. By the way, PT Barnum is famous for the idea that ‘there’s a sucker born every minute.’ I WONDER what he meant by that . . .

        C, all any American needs to know about politicians is ONE thing. That is, POWER reveals CHARACTER. In The Anointed Yahoo’s case, he’s addicted to power. He’s drunk on power. Power is his ‘god.’
        When has to leave the W H, he’ll be just another shlub in the crowd in Chicago. People like Obummer (and Bubba Clinton and Billary) can’t live without power. It truly separates them from the rest of us, AND it should tell you much about surrendering power – and VOTES – to ANYONE who dares to imply that they have all the answers and they’re backed by the “right” people with LOTS of MONEY and a politcal machine that is programmed to SURVIVE at ALL costs.
        Be afraid, C. America is in peril, and many are still asleep, thinking that nothing can go wrong. And no, I am NOT saying that all of this insanity stems from just one party. This battle is for ALL of the marbles – freedom or slavery – PERIOD.

        s c —I agree with your post and I am well aware of the subversion within both parties. My husband does a lot of research and he has told me many many things that are scary–concerning both parties. Yes, America is in peril. The horrific problem is that America will be in evermore peril regardless of whom is elected. The two parties want to RULE the world. Totally. This is frightening to me–they all have a method behind their madness and it is not good. And so help me God, this is why I am not blindly following either party.

    Eventually the Republicans may come up with a viable candidate and it is better to be prepared as the President is doing.When the GOP starts to rake in the money from the so called US Chamber of Commerce Obama will be up against France,China,India,Wall Street,big oil and big Pharma.President Obama only has the American citizens on his side and it is tough to compete against the new law where financial disclosure is non existent.His last campaign was funded mainly by ten to fifty dollar donations from the true patriots of America.Thank you very much and have a good one.

      jopa–May the best man win does not apply to politics. I include both parties in this comment. Many good candidates have fallen by the wayside in this “war of political parties.” The Republicans better come up with a good candidate. Ron Paul is their only hope at this time. I certainly will not vote for any of the others. I wonder if there will be another Democratic candidate?

    At the risk of “standing up” for Obama–regarding the above article, all politicians have fundraisers and campaign while they are holding an office and supposed to “be on the job.” Granted, the more money they haul is doesn’t always make for a good candidate, nor does it mean they will be re-elected or elected. What about Rick Perry’s campaign finances? Seems like he is doing pretty well in the money department. Nothing but more game-playing. We can scream all we want about this issue, there is no end and never will be an end to the political antics of both parties.

        Jana–I agree, but then the same could apply to all the politicians that are fundraising. But they want to be elected/re-elected. It almost seems to be a travesty. All the money that is wasted.
