Obama's Vacation Raises Eyebrows

On Tuesday, at the opening of the White House Rural Economic Forum in Peosta, Iowa, President Barack Obama spoke on the need for urgent action in Washington. Saying he wants “to leave no stone unturned when it comes to strengthening this economy,” Obama listed off the same measures he has been urging Congress to pass for several months — cutting the payroll tax, passing incentives for businesses to hire veterans and passing trade deals.

“So I don’t care whether you’re a Democrat or Republican, Independent, if you’re not registered with any party. I want to enlist your help. I need your help sending a message to Congress that it’s time to put the politics aside and get something done,” Obama said. “You do your part. You meet your obligations. Well, it’s time Washington acted as responsibly as you do every single day. It’s past time.”

The President spent three days this week traveling across the Midwest, talking to rural communities hard-hit by the recession about his Administration’s plans to put the economy back on track. Obama is now facing widespread criticism, though, because his family leaves Thursday to go on a 10-day vacation to Martha’s Vineyard, just one day after the end of his Bus Tour.

“Images of Obama fundraising, golfing and on vacation — especially in such a well-heeled location — undercut his message that the economy is his ‘singular focus,’” Doug Heye, a Republican strategist, told POLITICO.

Businessman and oft-rumored Presidential candidate Donald Trump told Fox News host Greta Van Susteren that Obama “takes more vacations than any human being I’ve ever seen.” The New York real estate mogul criticized Obama’s vacation further, saying: “Well, I mean, it sends a bad message. Here we have a country that really is going to hell in a hand basket. Let’s not kid ourselves. What’s happening to this country is horrible. All over the world, they’re talking about it. And we have a president that’s constantly — whether it’s Martha’s Vineyard or someplace else, constantly on vacation… We have to work in this country to bring it back.”

According to the POLITICO article, White House Press Secretary defended the Martha’s Vineyard vacation to reporters last week.

“There’s no such thing as a presidential vacation — the presidency travels with you,” Carney said. “He will be in constant communication and get regular briefings from his national security team as well as his economic team, and he will of course be fully capable if necessary of traveling back if that were required. It’s not very far.”

Kevin, Maxine Waters isn’t on Bummer’s ‘radar.’ Bummer practically owns the black vote (temporarily), so there’s no point in wasting time sucking up to menials like her. She’s on her own ego trip (maybe she can marry herself).
Bummer thinks he has to “PROVE” that he’s “one of us.” BLAH! He thinks we can be WOWed by his presence, He thinks no one will be outraged via EXPENSIVE buses that burn THOUSANDS of gallons of smog-creating FUEL.
It would be better if the people of those small towns found reasons to be ELSEWHERE when Bummer’s buses come to town. Mortals are entitled to vacations, too.

Another ridiculous conversation about Obama taking a vacation. Since all Presidents take time off and during various crises then it really isn’t a problem. If you are all serious about this then get an Amendment passed banning ALL Presidents from taking time off. Make them go the 4-8 years without a vacation. This bellyaching that Obama can’t do this or go there is whining of the highest order. Boo Hoo! On top of that if you don’t want Obama out politicking then ban ALL sitting Presidents from politicking while on the job. barry has been on vacation for half the year, the other half he’s campaigning. it’s tough having to read the teleprompter and acting like you have some resemblance of intelligence. think of the stress this mans under when he has to destroy his brother muslims. it took him eighteen hours to work up enough courage to pull the pin on ulsama bin laden, no doubt while kneeling on his prayer rug. do you think it would have taken that long if bin laden was a christian. having to make difficult decisions like that places a heavy stress on a person and deserving of several vacations.

Dear Obama,

After your 40-vehicle entourage bus tour this week, I hear you are going on yet another VERY pricy, tax-payed vacation to Martha’s Vineyard, so I have a few suggestions for you. Since you seem to have so much time and taxpayer money to take vacations and go to fancy golf resorts, I suggest you remember each and every American soldier around the world who is fighting for your freedom. Perhaps when soldiers are on leave from defending our country, you should send them and their families on a nice vacation of their choice, and you stay home.

We Americans think you’ve taken quite enough vacations, and you should stay in Washington and actually do the job we gave you do to.
I think that since we are footing the bill for them, you should be required to show exactly how much they are costing us. For instance, isn’t it interesting that the press and the libs are so interested in Sarah Palin’s emails, but when it comes to your constant vacations, they are SILENT.

While you are sitting in your plushy, air-conditioned, highly guarded Oval Office, where you are in no danger, think of those who are in Afghanistan in 120 degree heat and facing real danger everyday, the kind of danger that you are clearly ignoring, and fighting the very-real enemy that you want to befriend. That’s not what they are fighting for!

Instead of going around the world on your apology tour, making speeches to La Raza, suing Arizona and promising amnesty to illegals (only to get their vote), how about visiting Afghanistan once in a while. Put on one of their uniforms and lay in a foxhole in that 120 degree heat, where there is no air-conditioning. While you’re there, forget the phony photo ops and spend your time personally thanking every American tax-paying soldier who is making huge sacrifices and putting their lives in daily danger to defend this country, of which you are so embarrassed. In my opinion you should just stay there and let someone else who loves this country lead it instead.

Since you are so hot under the collar about billionaires and corporate jets, and always talking about sacrifice, I suggest you stop being a hypocrite and take your own advice. You give up your very expensive private jet and let soldiers fly home in it, while you and Michelle take an army transport plane for your trips around the world. After all, we are paying for your fancy jet, shouldn’t we decide what you do with it?

I suggest that next year, you skip the fun BBQ, beer drinking and golf excursions on Memorial Day and instead devote the whole weekend to remembering veterans and thanking those who are still with us. Remember this, the whole world is watching.

I suggest that instead of going to Martha’s Vineyard or Hawaii or campaigning for your doomed re-election, you take that time and go to a soldier’s funeral or an army hospital or visit a family who’s loved one is fighting for you.

To Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and all the democrats out there talking about sacrifice, but instead are doing your best to take away our freedoms, do a little sacrificing of your own and give to a soldier your vacations, fancy first class plane seats, and the huge, undeserved retirement plans you’ll be receiving when we fire all your sorry asses.

Lastly Obama, please make sure that soldiers around the world get their 2012 ballots out months ahead so that they have plenty of time to mail them back. They, more anyone else, have the right to vote. I’m sure they didn’t sign up to defend your freedom killing policies, and something tells me that most of them will vote your sorry ass out, and this is something you fear.

Soldiers put their lives on the line everyday and their families make daily sacrifices as well. They have made this country what it is…the freest and greatest country in the world.

The Obama’s pay for their own rooms while on vacation plus food but the tax payer pays when their there for officail functions. It costs money to put fuel into those aircraft ruffly 660K for Airforce one to include the maintenence costs, crew, secret service agents their food lodging, oh and don’t forget they have to travel atleast two weeks in advance to map out routs sefe for the president and first family. No one takes into consideration the external costs to a vacation, so how much did it cost us when Ohmama went on his tour of the Pacific with some twenty odd warships to include his staff wife and kids. Before you go off and dig against another President do the math first, Bush primarily stayed local; ie camp David or his ranch very little cost there. Now you compare where the Obamas have been and the total cost to the taxpayer and you will see it’s cost the US taxpayer more to have tham go on vacation then any other President in history.

Obama may pay for his own vacation and that of his wife and 2 children, but who pays the expense for the secret service advance team that has to go in a few weeks ahead of time and stay to make sure sure the place is secure? Who pays for the what 30 to 50 other secret service and secretaries that are needed to keep him functioning as Pres. plus Michelle my belles secretaries and their secret service? When they go to expensive places the cost goes up for the hotels for the secret service too.
So no big deal that we don’t pay for the four of them when we have to pay for 50 others.

EVERY President has taken vacations, some in the middle of bad situations in the country. I just heard yesterday about John Adams leaving Washington in the summer one year for vacation and staying away for 8 months! It seems like everybody left DC in those days because of the diseases spread in the summer; however, he stretched it quite a bit, partly to be with his sick wife. They deserve some time off. Bush was on vacation when Katrina hit and took his sweet time dealing with it. His father was in Kennebunkport on vacation during a recession and pretty much told everybody to shove it when they criticised him. Congress is on vacation too. As was said, the President is really never totally disconnected. Would you want his job?

Back in the day ( when our nation was founded), people were still riding horses, horse and buggy etc.
Traveling from N.C. or any other state took weeks if not months to go back and forth between D.C. and their home states. Travel was not easy during those times (remember that the nation was still mostly wilderness in those days). The Congress was not expected to be in Washington 365 days a year. As a matter of fact, they had to put it in the Constitution that the congress must convene in DC at least once per year in order to conduct the governments business ( they weren’t expected to be there at any other time because they were expected to live within their constituency where they could here from the people in their states and stay informed on the issues of their respective states). It was only after transportation started to improve that they started spending more and more time in DC. The more time that they have spent in DC, the more damage they have done to the nation as a whole. Personally, I would like to see them spend 9 months on vacation and 3 months in DC….the less they do….the better off the nation and we the people are in the long run. In other words, they need to go home to their districts, learn to listen to their constituents…and then meet in Washington once per year for 3 months….and then go home until next year.The only people that need to actually be in DC all year long….is the Supreme Court and president…and if Congress isn’t in session, then the president really doesn’t have a whole lot to do…other than to defend our nation ( if we are attacked) and our “rights”.

I resanote with these factors as thats how I also do business.
I strongly feel that this nations root problem is that we have allowed persons with “”NO moral”" grounding to become leaders, by way of who loks better, who sounds better who dress’s better, thus the problems started rather than doing we have gone to who Acts the way we think they should. We don’t need any more actors we have really quite enough of them.
What we do need are real leaders who are bound to Truth, Honesty, and Goodness, as well as the well being of our Nation as a whole.

Look if we as in you and I did a business deal ~ I am sure that you would rather walk away from the table feeling good about the deal we just struck, rather than walking away thinking – I think I was taken to the cleaners.

while I dont use pot (I did try it a few times and I did enhale but it did nothing for me so I just quit messing with it) I have many friends who have smoked pot over the years and they worked at their jobs some of them in law enforcement most of them if not all are retired now but still smoke their pot. I do not see a damned thing wrong with pot being placed in the same category as alcohol. it would be cheaper and the money spent trying to erradicate it could be spent in a more worthwhil way,

Fine. Legalize marijuana. Just as long as those who vote for it will pay my medical bills. I am extremely allergic to it. I get sick if I even walk into a room where someone has smoked it. It usually takes 2 weeks for me to completely recover from the sinus and lung congestion it causes.

Seriously, having a strong dislike of Texas politicians, I don’t know much about Paul, other than I agree that our sandbox wars never shouldn’t have taken place.
All in all, he doesn’t seem like a bad guy, and I suppose he might be a cut about the average Washington scumbag, but that is not saying much.
In the end, it appears, our political system won’t allow for an honest politician to be anything more, than marginally affective … the big money undertow is just too strong.
Perhaps chaos could change things, but who knows, I’m just an office chair pundit, like the rest of you.

Even if they did get a nuke..
1. They aren’t the only ones in the region to have them.
2. Even if they had one, they don’t have the capability to launch one at the US…..and if they did, we would just shoot it down…and then retaliate.

As for your comment about the legalization of drugs, please point out where in the Constitution that the government has the right to decide what is moral and what is not….I can’t seem to find that clause.
Drugs are first and formost, a moral choice and if someone gets “too involved” in drugs, it can become a medical issue…but never a legal issue. What a person does with their own body is nobodies business but their own….period. For the government to attempt to force their moral views on others is not only reprehensible….it is Un-Constitutional.

Get real! If someone is under the influence of legal alcohol, he is held responsible, why why would it be any different under the influence of legal pot? Alcohol is legal, why not pot? Alcohol is even more harmful. Actually, I have never heard of anyone getting convicted of vehicular homicide under the influence of pot.

Were you dropped on your head as a child? Alcohol is legal right now…and people who have alcohol in their systems when they have an accident….are proscuted everyday ( heck, they even prosecute without the accident if you are DUI, DWI or whatever term your state uses). What makes you think that Drugs would not fall under the same “legalities” as alcohol? Besides, anytime that an accident is deterrmined to be someones fault ( regardless of circumstances)…they either face Criminal or civil penalties.

I could go through all the comments, but most agree that he is the most “pampered presidents” we’ve had in history. I have a friend who works in D.C. and sees all the waste that has been dumped at the door of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. No more mention of his & Michelle’s every Wednesday night cocktail parties by the Lame Stream Media, but they do happen and with high recognition stars, musicians, poets, etc. The Obamas are milking these four years for EVERYTHING they can get out of the taxpayers and the status of the office. As was previously stated, Bush went to Camp David or his ranch (which he owns) and did not incur any lease or rental charges to occupy and quit golfing after 2003. Can you imagine the uproar if Laura Bush had gone on a separate vacation from the President as Michelle has now for the first 2 years in office (Spain & Africa) and still has yet another one with her husband and children??? When this sham of a president does work, he destroys the country, so while it might cost us taxpayers big bucks to entertain him, it is a small price to pay to keep our country safe!

Especially going to Martha’s Vinyard a very EXPENSIVE place to go. Even if he did pay for his own, the government still has to pay for the security to stay in this expensive place. However, you know good and well the taxpayers are paying for this.

Even on vacation any President is on 24 hour call.

Yes, Bush made tons of mistakes as did Clinton, and Bush Sr. and Carter, all the way down the line. Bush however was still connected at his ranch should there be an issue and it didn’t cost us an arm and a leg for him to vacation. Mr. B.O. is off on his own and doesn’t give a hoot about what happens while he’s away. I would love to take a vacation but I can’t afford to as I’m paying for his. Did you see his NEW bus? He should be using his own DNC money for this trip, not the tax payer’s monies as I do not support him, but he takes my money to advance his political career….and I’m irate that he is talking jobs in America while traveling in a bus that was purchased from a Canadian company….not an American company or an American company located in Canada. So, how can he say he wants jobs in this country when he is purchasing his bus from another country when there are several great bus companies in America. HE didn’t purchase it.. This was a hiccup from the secret service.. ALSO it’s to be used for other diplomats (of either side) and will probably be utilized by future presidents and diplomates as well.. I do agree that it would have been more american to have purchased an american product but that’s our g’ment.. NEVER THINKING! ALSO, I’d rather this than traveling in AF1 or that special copter which I might add the fuel alone could add up to the price of that bus on ANY given trip. I’m not saying he didn’t pick it out (by the way it looks) and he didn’t veto the sale, but look at the stats: Air Force 1 (one trip) over 2 million dollars total.. Road bus 1.. Not even close.

I don’t know where people get their facts on days off, but it’s not credible to believe that Bush took off more. After the 9/11 attacks nine months into his presidency, Bush didn’t take time off for a long time.

When Bush did take time away from the White House, he usually went home to his ranch or to Camp David — a government owned presidential retreat. Neither cost the taxpayers much extra since Camp David is always under guard, and a president’s home has to be guarded anyway.

The Obamas seem to live the high life on the backs of the taxpayers with their partying, expensive overseas junkets, constant golf outings, and vacations. That arrogant attitude really chaps us.

They do not count Camp David as vacation days. Their vacation days are a matter of public record and that were they get that and I have not heard any discrepancies between liberals and conservatives as to the number of vacation days taken they agree on this

But if Oblama does the same thing and insists he is actually at work, you believe him. If Bush did the same thing, he was on vacation. And how many managers of anything do you see off playing golf every work-day afternoon? Not many if they want to keep their business!

I’ll call it as I see it, regardless of what you or he calls it. I don’t consider it a work day when he listens to a thirty minute report and spends the rest of the day having fun.
