Hurricane Survival Tips As Season Approaches
August 18, 2011 by Personal Liberty News Desk
Several storm systems have begun to accumulate power in the past several days, as a tropical depression is forming off the Eastern seaboard while Hurricane Greg gained momentum off the coast of California, Bloomberg reported.
The Caribbean storm system is moving towards Central America, and is picking up enough steam that analysts have predicted that it could become a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours, according to the news outlet.
Hurricane Greg, already bearing 80 mph winds, is more than 300 miles from the California coast and is gaining speed, as weather scientists are trying to detemine the extent of the damage that may occur if it moves closer to land, reported Bloomberg.
While it is impossible to prevent a storm from happening, it is imperative that citizens protect themselves the best they can. Acting out of prevention may be the best way to avoid significant damage.
According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, individuals should secure their property by installing permanent storm shutters on windows, fasten their roofs to the frame structure through the use of clips and trim branches off of overhanging trees.
