KENNETT, Mo., Aug. 16 (UPI) — A Missouri man who allegedly told police he killed a 3-year-old neighbor and dumped her body in a drainage ditch was arraigned Tuesday on a murder charge.
Shawn Morgan, 43, of Senath appeared at the Dunklin County courthouse under heavy guard and wearing a bulletproof vest and chains, The Daily Dunklin Democrat reported. Morgan, who is being held without bail, told Circuit Judge John C. Spielman he did not yet have a lawyer.
Breeann Rodriguez disappeared Aug. 6. Her parents told police she was in the front yard with her brother and vanished while he was in the house getting some water.
Morgan allegedly told police Saturday he found Breeann in his back yard, took her inside and suffocated her with a trash bag. He said he put her body in the bag and drove it to the area where he dumped it.
Breeann’s body has not been found, and some members of her family say they believe Morgan is lying.
“We believe she’s still alive. He knows where he has her but he won’t say,” Cynthia Moreno, her great-aunt, said.
