BUFFALO, N.Y., Aug. 16 (UPI) — Searchers looking for the body of a Japanese student presumed dead after plunging off Niagara Falls found the body of another person, authorities said Tuesday.
The Niagara Parks Police Service said the identity of the man whose body was recovered after being spotted by a helicopter from the Erie County, N.Y., sheriff’s department Monday had not been determined, CNN reported. The body did not appear to be related to any previously reported incidents, police said.
Authorities also had not released the name of the missing female 19-year-old Japanese student who disappeared into the falls on the Canadian side Sunday. Her fall was caught on surveillance video, CNN said.
“It appears from the review of surveillance video that this incident was a tragic accident,” the parks police said in a release.
