ORANJESTAD, Aruba, Aug. 16 (UPI) — A judge in Aruba ordered the suspect in the disappearance of a Maryland woman be held in Aruba for 16 more days.
Gary Giordano, 50, the sole suspect in the disappearance of Robyn Gardner, appeared in court in Aruba Monday. A judge ordered that Gardner remain in the country for 16 more days, granting investigators time to put together more evidence, ABC News reported.
Gardner’s family was happy with the decision made by the judge.
“We are confident in the decision made by the Aruban authorities to keep Gary Giordano in custody,” the family said in a statement.
The hearing lasted 3 hours, during which prosecutors convinced the judge that Giordano’s alleged history of domestic violence and the inconsistencies in his story to police were grounds for further detention.
